TBH, I expect Gu Xiulan's going to get an Advanced Insight out of this.

This was her Han Fang moment in a lot of ways. She just saw a friend take a poisoned dagger because that friend wanted to protect her.

I mean, let's be honest here, Gu Xiulan was in some ways the MVP of that fight, we'd have never taken the fucker down if she wasn't laying down the DPS, Ling Qi's role was mostly just support and keeping the assassin from turning the tables.

Ling Qi has come a long way from stealing blankets from other homeless people.

She tends to take bad things happening and then turn them into fuel for her infinite blazing flame.
It's true we couldn't have solo'd him, but I think we would have done fine as either tank or dps, so I disagree about her being MVP. I don't know if most cultivators at her stage could manage either role, however, so I do agree she distinguished herself.

And yeah, this experience will likely fuel a lot of advancement for her.

[X] Churning (Gu Xiulan)

Thought that moratorium was not in action earlier, my bad. I tend to say no to the petting zoo crew and Xiulan's my favorite anyway.

[X] Shockwaves (Su Ling)

You do realize that the Outer Sect gets mobilized in times of war?

In other news, we're much more likely to interact with our remaining friends and characters from there going forward, since that's what we're doing now, the Argent Sect is currently in a state of war after this.

Yep, all I can think of is how many Inner and outer sect disciples do you have to field to compensate for Zhou's absence from the Wall.

I'm guessing somewhere between "most" and "all"

Lan Lan is a G2 built around hitting hard this was the best shot for her and she didn't disappoint. I hope Lan Lan's take away isn't she failed just she needs to complete her build more with some defense

Get some heat mirages and obscuring smoke for your wild fire buildLan Lan!

...or and Ugly River Eel boyfriend to tank <.<

Defense isn't even the problem, she just needs to be faster at taking down targets and better at identifying them.

One needs no defense against a dead opponent. The best defense in this case would be destroying anything that dares strike against the great LanLan before it can land its blow.

Hm. So it just occurred to me that with the wog that the reason Elder Zhou was so important to the Argent Sect being that he had the potential to replace Yuan He, and the Duchess has a golden opportunity for a win/win scenario if she uses CRX to make a play at an increased centralization in the Emerald Seas by negotiating with the Argent Sect for a requirement for her aid to be that they give CRX a fair shake at Sect Head. This is an avenue for centralization that avoid stepping on any of the toes belonging to her vassals, and more importantly the Sun/Bai conflict basically guarantees it will succeed in shoring up the border region as any amount of funding she provides will be exceeded by the far far richer inner provinces.

Although more significant than any money would that the Duchess as a White tier cultivator can follow up on maybe she gave to Yuan He at the tournament in regards to an opportunity to clash with her, and is the something in theory that might give him the necessary insight to hit White tier, which from the pov of the Duchess is likely a good thing as a White is someone who needs to be bribed to keep happy thus benefiting the Emerald Seas. Meanwhile the Sect Head having lost his best chance at producing a successor capable of keeping the Argent Sect treading water, and has little to lose having endured decades, or even centuries of his requests for additional funding being met with "We'll consider it if you produce a crop of talents sufficient for the royal guard, and/or ministry of integrity agents for us to feed into the meat grinder that is inner province politics" thereby removing them from protecting the border he needs more funds/manpower to properly safeguard much less maintain the local economy to support the Sect military.

Oh, and the worst part about it is that Elder Zhou likely died on, or near enough to some rather critical border fortification that they've been compromised, and that is how you get a Sect Head while too virtuous to break/bend any laws is perfectly willing to play ball with whatever the Duchess has planned to benefit the Emerald Seas. Because at the end of the day Yuan He almost certainly remembers what the province was like before Ogodei wrecked the place, and even if he didn't a lot of his close friends to bring him down making him naturally inclined to be proactive about avoiding a repeat of history when an option opens up to do so.

Even glass cannon builds take defensive techs when the first shot doesn't instagib

Oh god no. That's a terrible idea on all accounts and even Shenhua wouldn't do it even if she thought about it.

You don't even get considered for even Elder positions without being Indigo, so that's premature to begin with--and a lot of things can still change.

More referring that a Xiulan based defense is going to be less about taking or dodging the hit, but pre-emptively destroying an attacker before they can fuck her up. Battle Reflex counterfire if you will.
