This Bites! (One Piece SI)

This was so well written I could see the entire chapter playing in my mind in HD.
On one hand this has cemented the Strawhats as Good Pirates in most of the world's opinions.
On the other I'm going to have Nightmares for a while, downside of having an overactive imagination.
I consider it a fair trade.

Against her own volition, her mind flashed back to a stone altar, a man with a lance of fire riding a bird… and just the wrong lurch, and the sickening crack that followed. Merry shuddered as a bolt of agony tore through her back

Did Merry's Keel crack?.
That means that she lied to Cross about it not happening yet.
Please, someone tell me I'm wrong.

I very much like the chapter, it got me pacing and into the "no you moron! everything is NOT okay!" mindset you get when you read good horror. being able to clearly notice that something is off, and have people in the story confirm that this is not how things are supposed to be via the radio audience, really helped sell the build-up. It got me legitimately worried.

The climax we nice and shonin though, which I rather like. There probably was no other way it could have ended, but I still rather appreciated it for leaving us with a happy ending.

The horror reaction shots of the various monsters of the Grand Blue was a bit over the top, but believable. Not because of the mass death, but the deliberate destruction of trust and family, something that is held sacred with nearly everyone in One Piece. Everyone has a nakama in One Piece and even the villains treat their own crew respectfully, so it makes sense they would be disgusted at someone abusing and taking advantage of those bonds.

I'm assuming that it's starting to get there. There are fractures, but proooobably not snapped yet. On the fine line between salvageable and screwed though. And even then, it might be worth just plating the entire keel just in case.

*sees chapter length*

Good golly.

*sees the flower and undertale reference*

...bad things are going to happen.

*horrible things happen*

-Power Rangers theme comes on TV, shivers go down my spine-

*chapter ends*

-Takes deep breath-

I was half expecting merry ghost body to run over to where Luffy was and kick the flower
was very disapointed when that didnt happen

And oh man, my heart is beating like crazy after that

...worth it.

READING. THIS. DURING. MIDNIGHT.

NOW, I CANNOT SLEEP.

BUT IT'S FUCKING WORTH IT!

Now, all I have to do is cry to myself until the sun comes up...

This Bites Movie 1: Florida Man shot brutally by vegetables; claims to have done it for "the ratings".

and on a separate note, I find it interesting how quickly the Straw Hats achieved "precious cinnamon bun" status near globally. There were several major powers there willing to toss down island destroying firepower for messing with the Straw Hats. This isn't really surprising as not only are the Straw Hats themselves contagiously cheerful, their journey is probably one of the few hopeful things people can regularly see in the Grand Blue. But seeing it in action is different, might change how their opponents approach them, since being known as "that one guy who shut down the #1 happiest radio show" is... while not the biggest deal, could make a few consider more subtle approaches.

"It wasn't the kappa-kid who said it…" Perona whispered, slowly tightening her grip on the very still Bearsy. "I-I-It was that thing… i-it's intelligent… a-and it's words…"

The male members of the Four started to look at one another…

"It said…"

When they were halted by Bearsy's gravelly voice, which Perona said nothing about.

"That flower invited the world to come to its world and take part in a great feast…" the zombie bear whispered.

The men took a few moments to process that statement, and then they reacted appropriately: Hogback started babbling incoherently and sweating like a pig, Absalom retreated to a corner of the room before he began emptying his guts out, and Moria's bone-white complexion flushed in horrified outrage.

"Just what kind of a monster are we dealing with…?" the Warlord breathed.
can someone explain this part for me? I am a bit unsure of what exactly the conclusion they came to is.
