@overmind, is it possible for our character, Matt Miller, to gain new traits that boost rolls and stuff? Do we get new traits through natural progression and subsequent good/bad rolls, or can we gain them through good omakes?

Launching the movie in February was not your initial desire. Usually films released around this time are not considered Blockbusters, and the low attendance due to that could seriously harm your movie's revenue. At the same time Hawkeye was not a character that was well known, heck he was more obscure than Iron Man and Thor had been before the movies, and your lack of cameos meant that this would literally be the first time regular movie goers would see him.

However you had built a sense of trust in the Marvel bran with both the fan base and the regular audience, enough perhaps so that they would come without the need for more advertising than the regular one produced by Marvel itself.

Though the story itself seemed somewhat rough, most of the fan base was satisfied seeing their favorite archer come into action. The Spy Thriller showed the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as how simple humans can deal with the dangers of the world. It was a story of pride and its dangers, with Jacques Duquesne serving as a foil for Clint Barton through the movie. Both are arrogant, headstrong, chafe under authority believing to know better; yet where Jacques justified his every action taken as other people's fault, Clint accepted the responsibility for his actions when he inadvertedly lead him to the S.H.I.E.L.D. database, putting aside his pride in order to infiltrate Bagalia and lead S.H.I.E.L.D. to their true objective while he distracted him and his employers.

Clint Barton began as a cocky and arrogant operative, but left the movie showing why he deserved to be an Avenger; one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes indeed.

Unfortunately the movie had to be released on the very same day as the latest Leonardo DiCaprio film Shutter Island which went on to become a hit at the Box Office, as despite not being the same kind of movie aimed at your fans, well, it was still a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio! It didn't kill your momentum completely, but you're sure that's the reason for the lack of tickets sold.

Even so you had a good number of people coming to see the movie for the Marvel brand alone, and they left, if not completely astonished, at the very least satisfied for an entertaining film. While the movie lack many scenes that used VFX, you could be certain that at the very least they were not as bad the disaster that was the latest Wolverine Film (What were they even thinking there?!? What did they do to my boy?!!?!) Add to it that the choreography and stunt work alone made it more than worth seeing it; Karl Urban managed to mesh the acrobatics and agility of Clint Baton with a brutal and downright vicious style of fighting; whether fighting Swordsman, Silent, or even Black Widow, it's an entire experience just to behold. Gemma, after the reshoots, even managed to hold her own when the scenes came up. The final strike of S.H.I.E.L.D. against the base having her fight against hordes of agents from both sides truly displayed her fighting skills, quick and deadly all around.

Nick Fury may not have had to fight that much, but his single fight against Swordsman during the assault at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base was one of the highlight of the movie; mainly since it was back to back with Clint's fight against Silent. And while all actors truly shined, you had to admit that the ones that stood out the most were Samuel L. Jackson (the man just has presence pouring out of him) and Yayan Ruhian. No wonder Marvel is already making plans to revive the character for the upcoming Hawkeye and Mockingbird line. Heck, he's already been scouted by Director Brad Bird for the upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol film. He's still willing to return as a character for future films so that's something. Adding him near the end was a nice touch as well.

Heck, even the interaction between characters was praised; audiences loved seeing the clashes between Nick Fury and Clint Barton, each one highlighting each other's faults and weaknesses. That at the end both sides still were at odds, yet also had found an understanding between each other, was a delight as it meant more of those interactions in the future.

Not many fans were happy at seeing Black Widow be cast as a villain however; though messages in the forums did defend the action by pointing out how she had begun as a villain when she first debuted, and her Ultimate incarnation had her be more of a villain as well (Though that brand was going down fast).

At the end of the day though, the movie could be called a success with both critics and fans alike. Though following most of the Superhero type of stories its mix with Spy and Thriller genre type of movies gave it an identity of its own, making it stand out from the previous Marvel films and gaining a cult following for many fans who preferred a more grounded and gritty kind of story.

Along the discussions were also the debates about the Post-Credit scenes. Fury calling "Agent Morse" to his office can only mean the inclusion of new Avenger Mockingbird to the upcoming movies, while many are still wondering who Black Widow was speaking with at the end. Two Post-Credit scenes and both promising something new and exciting have managed to inflame the imaginations of the fans.

The movie not began with good news …

But it ended with some at least.

Mid-Credits Scene: Nick Fury reads a file in his office before putting it down and calling for "Agent Morse"; the File on his desk reads "Howard Stark".

Post-Credits Scene: Black Widow is lead to an opulent, yet tasteful, office where she reports her successful infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. to an unidentified man as he grants her "a seat at the table".

Cameo: Stan Lee cameos as the owner of a Sporting goods store where Hawkeye goes to replace his arrows. He demands cash up front.

I can just tell this BO is gonna bite us in the ass when we try to line up a sequel in the future.

It's annoying but at least it's not a BO bomb.

Edit- Hilariously, if this was anything but an MCU film we'd be calling this good enough hit. It's just disappointing for an MCU film.

Unrelated to me hating myself for contributing to our mediocre box office profits, but props to our man Yayan for possibly getting into Mission Impossible. :D He's going far, I can tell.

Yeah, it's a darn shame I wasn't paying enough attention. But on the plus side, we did better than OTL's Incredible Hulk... I'm not sure if this is me just trying to cope, lol.

Don't worry about it. We got good enough critic and fan buzz that we can justify a sequel, and we'll probably be able to profit further off of it on streaming services once those become relevant.

We did pretty decently in spite of that, though.
Pretty much, Feburary is just that bad of a month (The competition doesn't help). The other reasons Black Panther did so well because A: Black Month and B: It was the 18th Marvel Film. By then, Marvel built up a lot of reputation. All things considered, I feel Hawkeye did rather well here. The one thing I do like is as mentioned near the end, it made a subset in the fandom that enjoys movies like Hawkeye. One of the reasons I love Marvel in general because it has stories for a plethora of different genres. The more we build up this reputation, the more we can be confident in venturing out of the mold rather than fall into a pattern like MCU did in the OTL.

for sure, it's going to be very fun when this quest get to that point. Because by then we would have made such a different lineup of movies compared to the OTL.

Yeah next time, let's make sure that we know which release months have big movies coming out so when plan around them to release our movies to get the most butts in seats.

We'll need someone to look up movies released in the past years to better time our releases.

That's fucking great, we made over 4 times the budget with our box office. That's similar to what Iron Man did IRL, which from my calculations made 4.18 times it's budget.

Frankly I feel like some of y'all just have your expectations a little bit too high sometimes.

Honestly, now that I think about it? Yeah, we totally are.

Remember everyone, most films up until the last decade never made over a billion dollars in box office, even 800M was incredibly rare. We just got so used to having a movie a year that made 1B and it affects how we view box office earnings in general.

In box office revenue, even earning x3 times the budget is amazing for a movie and would earn a potential sequel. Earning 4 times the budget? In February, aka when movies go to get fucked? Hawkeye is safe.
