There Was A Different Idea: An MCU Producer Quest

So with our ideas of it being more romcom and such, should we switch from the boring middle ground tone option and go with the option that lines up with what we've been brainstorming more? Otherwise we are saying one thing and voting for another.

[] [Tone] Leaning into the comedy could help distinguish him. He does seem kind of a crazy kind of character.
Don't see why not.

I don't think we've actually tried the more comedy-tinted choice, and so I think it'd be interesting to try it here, especially since Captain America is, if we go with Kirook's general version as I want to, going to be pretty serious.

Yeah, it would be a good choice to make this movie comedic. It would continue on the trend of having the solo movies fulfill certain genres. Much like how Thor was high fantasy and Hawkeye was a action spy flick.

[X] Plan Proper Wonder Man

If we want a scientist, how about Jane Foster's old grad student Darcy. Wonder Man is trying to find Jane from a news report that covered the events of Thor on Earth, and finds an old email that now goes to Darcy whose thesis research topic totally sucked and this is so much better.

Could work. Keep in mind Darcy hasn't been shown yet in Thor so this is would be her first introduction.

Although I would kind of prefer to have an absent minded professor type and Darcy wouldn't really fit that mold, being a more down to earth person.

Perhaps Wonder Man's agent fires him at the start of the movie to put him in kind of a low point of his life, and later him looking into Darcy could lead to her replacing his agent and having Simon become famous through the internet or something, with his power demonstration videos uploaded online directly by Darcy. Twitter got a huge rise in popularity around 2007-2010 so we could be seen as being ahead of the curve potentially, at least compared to our peers?

"Bringing Avi Home" by Duke William of
Bringing Avi Home

When you get to know me, I don't despair - I just get up, clean up, and start again. - Avi Arad

Your name is Matt Everett Miller, it's in the middle of March 2010, and right now, you are repeatedly beating your head over your office desk. Specifically, you're beating your head over a desk while brainstorming ways to convince Avi Arad to return to Marvel. Not the most efficient way to solve problems, you'll grudgingly admit. Unfortunately, it's how you've gotten through week-long negotiations with greedy executives and braindead VFX crews, so you've figured that it would work just fine this time as well.

In all seriousness, Avi Arad potentially returning to Marvel could literally be the greatest godsend God could give you at this moment. When you first heard about the negotiations from Walter, one of your few Marvel executive friends, you nearly did a spit take, and then nearly tore apart your office as a sugar-happy, excited child would while running around in his mother's home office. As of now, you've now dedicated much of your time at work to involving yourself in the negotiations, and have even compiled a short list detailing the positives of Avi rejoining Marvel Studios.

First off, through Avi rejoining Marvel, his production company and its plentiful resources would also find their way into Marvel's hands. Through that, you could easily get the bigger budgets needed for your movies, as well as better staff, equipment, writers, and etc. As well as a better VFX team, no offense meant to your current one. Actually, screw that, all offense meant against them, they are horrible at their job if they need you threatening to whip the devil out of them to do their job well. Second, Avi Arad is known for his appreciation of creativity and innovation in movies. It was precisely why he left Marvel Studios in the first place, citing a lack of original concepts in Marvel movies. You have no doubt that Avi would appreciate your ideas for where to take Marvel, and that he could provide major support for your projects, both in the present and the future. Third, not them out important part but a point nonetheless, is that Avi was a genuinely good man with a good heart. You had met him once or twice some time ago, back when you were with Universal and helping with writing the script of the Hulk movie by Ang Lee. You don't talk about that little detail anymore… It would be nice to have someone on the Committee who didn't seem forever cursed to have a dour face and permanent scowl by some wicked, old hag. Lastly, and most importantly, Avi would most certainly get a seat in the Creative Committee when he joined Marvel Studios. This meant that if the negotiations went well and you played a part in it, Avi could become an important ally of yours in the Creative Committee. With his backing and support, your negotiations with the higher-ups would be less like walking on Legos barefooted and more like walking on pebbles barefooted. Still uncomfortable to do so, but nowhere nearly as painful and irritating as it could be.

There would, of course, be unfavorable consequences if the negotiations failed. The first consequence would be a loss of influence within Marvel Studios. Not that bad of a consequence, as far as you were concerned. You can always recoup that influence back anytime in the future. The other consequence, however, is far more concerning in your opinion. You don't like Ike Perlmutter's greediness and character in general, and he knows it. Despite him and Avi being friends of a sort, they both have very different visions of where Marvel should go. Ike will catch onto what you're trying to do, and if you fail, the coming reprisals against you would be swift and merciless. This is why you're still currently beating your head on your desk, wondering if this is such a good idea.

Ah, well. You've gambled on higher stakes before, so why stop throwing the dice now?

The Next Week

Brriiiinnngg!!

Brriiiinnngg!!

As the phone rings, you tap your fingers against your desk, waiting impatiently for someone to pick up. You've rehearsed and rehearsed, over the agonizing past week, those fateful words that should bring Avi back home. Into Marvel's loving arms. You slowly inhale and quickly exhale to calm your nerves. You are Matthew Everett Miller, damn it, and you will not let yourself be cowed now. Not after all that you've sacrificed to bring your dream into reality.

Breathe In. Breathe Out.

Breathe In. Breathe Out.

Remember, Matt. Your tongue is King Midas, and the words and syllables that your tongue touch shall be turned into gold. And Businessmen like-no, love gold over everything else.

Click!

"Ah, Mr. Miller! I was told you would be calling me today."

"Hello, Mr. Arad. But please, sir, just call me Matt."

"Very well then, Matt. Though if I'm doing that, you might as well call me Avi as well."

"Alright, Avi."

"Perfect. Now, Matt, I love what you've done with your movies, especially Mighty Thor. You, my friend, have a creative vision that Marvel's lacked for quite some time."

"Thank you, Avi, it's such a great honor to hear that. Oh, and speaking of movies, I wish to talk with you about Marvel and the current negotiations…"

=====================================
Hello, everyone. :D This is a simple omake I made with the intention of improving the negotiations with Avi Arad, and building up a little lore on Matt. Because why not? :V P.S., tell us if you caught the details I added about Matt Miller that created.

Disclaimer, I know nothing about real-life Avi, and I claim nothing about the accuracy of this omake.

Special thanks to @overmind for betaing this omake for me.

Voting is closed however, so Plan Proper Wonder Man wins.

Wonderful Villains - Planning Session: Wonder Man (March 2010)
The Winning Vote said:
[X] Plan Proper Wonder Man
-[x] [Antagonists] Though the The Living Laser is mostly an Iron Man enemy, you don't think he'll have the chance to appear in the next movie. Perhaps having Arthur Parks as an employee of Williams Innovations could work.
-[X] [Tone] Leaning into the comedy could help distinguish him. He does seem kind of a crazy kind of character.
-[X] [Powers] Wonder Man's had his abilities enhanced thanks to the Power Stone (Super Strength, Super Speed, enhanced Stamina) but is not invincible. But there is room for more.
--[X] Gain the powers early on but very unskilled and uncontrolled with them: force-fields, energy vision, still-clumsy/untrained flight, weak regeneration?

A more comedic approach to the character is for the bets here, especially if you're going to have him keep most of his powers from the comics. At least they're nerfed from the God-Like level they were back then. Now he can at least be hurt and get tired.

Seriously, who was the genius that thought giving the character "Unlimited Stamina" in the comics was a good idea?

Regardless, this wonder Man will be powerful, no question about that, but not overwhelmingly so, and he will have to struggle to master his powers so you can at least work it into the movie. You're sure it will make for some hilarious takes!

As for the villain, you had to struggle a bit with Vaughn for the Living Laser though he gave way to your arguments in the end. It helped a lot that you decided not to go against his plans for the Scarecrow, and even gave some helpful suggestions there.

Ebenezer Laughton, known as the Scarecrow, had his comic origins as an abused child who became a contortionist in a Circus environment (is it just you, or do many Marvel villains just happen to come from the Circus?).

Vaughn however decided to do something a bit more modern: Now named Abraham Laughton (Calling him "Abe" for short) he would be a Stuntman for Simon, and seemingly his friend, who "encourages" (Tricks) him into stealing from Williams Innovations, where the accident happens that gives them both powers…well, three now with Arthur involved.

You suggested that Scarecrow's new powers should be:

You can select more than one.

[] [Scarecrow] Superhuman strength and endurance.
[] [Scarecrow] Healing factor.
[] [Scarecrow) Fear inducing Pheromones
[] [Scarecrow] Bird controlling abilities.
[] [Scarecrow] Immunity to kinetic strikes.

As for the Living Laser, Arthur Parks himself, there was not much to tell. The big kicker had been his powers. He had gone in the comics from a scientist using his extensive knowledge of science to create devices that would grant him power, to outright becoming…well…a Living Laser! (Laser mimicry and Projection as it's known).

You and Vaughn agreed that he would gain powers at the same accident where Scarecrow and Simon would get theirs. From there it was mostly a matter of selecting his background.

[] [Arthur] Arthur Parks was the Head Scientist of Williams Innovations, and an old friend of the family. He had a good life and lost it all when the accident happened, leaving him desperate for revenge, which Eric and Maggia granted.
[] [Arthur] Arthur Parks was a simple Security Guard of Williams Innovations, who hungered for more power. He caused the "accident" to gain more power, not caring who was harmed in the aftermath, being free to do whatever he wanted.
[] [Arthur] Arthur Parks was just an employee of Williams Innovations who hoped to get enough attention to be someone. After the accident he felt grateful for gaining his powers, and was willing to whatever he was asked for in return.
[] [Arthur] Arthur Parks was a homeless man who was kidnapped to serve as a guinea pig. He tried to run during the accident that granted him powers. He's now kept under control thanks to a surgery, and is trapped in a specially designed suit
[] [Arthur] I just thought of Something Else: Write In

With that taken care of it was time to focus on the last villain: Luchino Nefaria, CEO and Head Scientist of the Nefaria Conglomerate. Matthew had taken the most liberties with this character, though there was a small nod to the Comic origins when it's mentioned that his family used to be Counts, so there was that.

Vaughn originally wanted him to gain the same powers as Wonder Man and to have both of them have a final battle. However, now that Arthur Parks has that role, Luchino Nefaria is relegated to a more "Schemer" and plotter role; the Scientist behind it all, the CEO ready to take over Williams Innovations, and a mostly normal human that knows how to play people around him.

The best example of that would be Eric Williams, the relationship between both displaying hints of fatherly affection. Vaughn even told you how he plans to play it in the end.

[] [Nefaria] Nefaria is plotting to take over Williams Innovations, so it stands to reason that he will not need Eric at the end. (Eric is killed before the climax).
[] [Nefaria] Nefaria is plotting to take over Williams Innovations, yet he finds that Eric's presence is needed for now (Eric is killed at the end).
[] [Nefaria] Nefaria is plotting to take over Williams Innovations, so it stands to reason that he will not need Eric at the end. He might still be useful though (Eric is captured and experimented on).
[] [Nefaria] Nefaria is plotting to take over Williams Innovations, yet he finds that Eric's presence can be used as a patsy (Eric survives and is successfully convinced to follow Nefaria until the end and beyond).
[] [Nefaria] I'm thinking of Something Else: Write In

[X] Plan Shoo DC, We're Not Copying You.
-[X] [Scarecrow] Healing factor.
-[X] [Scarecrow] Bird controlling abilities.
-[X] [Scarecrow] Immunity to kinetic strikes.
-[X] [Arthur] Arthur Parks was just an employee of Williams Innovations who hoped to scrape by under the radar, but the looming bankruptcy risked his comfortable life ending. After the accident he felt grateful for gaining his powers, and was willing to whatever he was asked for in return within reason (super fight vs Simon hell yeah sounds fun, causing harm to others no), having a blast using his powers.
-[X] [Nefaria] Nefaria is plotting to take over Williams Innovations, yet he finds that Eric's presence can be used as a patsy (Eric survives and is successfully convinced to follow Nefaria until the end and beyond).

I don't want us to blatantly copy DC's Scarecrow(for obvious reasons), so I say we lean into the absurdity and comedy of the movie and make Scarecrow control birds for some reason. :VI like Arthur Parks being a scientist, but I don't think we need him to be connected to the Williams except as an employee.

Edit: I'm toning down the revenge aspect and more or less making Parks just want attention due to narcissism. He can be pretty chill at times when talking with others, though. Hopefully.

Edit 2: Changed my Arthur Parks write-in to @Nystical's.

I think casual laser will allow for them to be more comedic back and forth, perhaps even have laser agreeing with Simon that scarecrow is a creepy loser. Could be fun to have a "chill" self aware villain

This option is more in line with that but I will come up with something more specific with a write in.

Bit on the younger side.

This write in will allow Arthur to be a foil for Simon. Simon first idea isnt to be a hero, Arthur first idea isnt to be a villain. Both are having fun with powers (well, probably Arthur more than Simon until his career has been reestablished)

Mind changing Arthur to the write in for your plan?

Absolutely. I'm not married to what I chose for Parks, and this seems like a good write-in, so yeah, I'm in. :D
