There Was A Different Idea: An MCU Producer Quest

Yep! You did much better than expected. However the language of the update is from Matt's perspective, and if he is nothing if not biased for Marvel. The guy is a fan, and though he knows the difficulty of getting people to love Marvel as much as he does, at the same time he also is positive, and completely sure that once they see the movie they would agree with him.

Shutter Island made as much as it did OTL, and Matt is convinced that they were the reason why Hawkeye did as low (it is at the moment the lowest MCU movie) as they did. And unfortunately, the Marvel Execs agree with him. So far every movie you have done has garnered great reviews and Gross income as well, and they expect (and want) every Marvel movie to do the same. For them, this is not a victory, though it's not a complete defeat either.

Next update might come later today.

It's better that they're blaming Shutter Island and timing issues rather than going, "Man, Hawkeye just isn't that great, he only made us 4x returns, we should never do anything involving him again."

How do you determine if a movie made the same as OTL, or not? Roll of a die, QM judgment on the rolls of the movie the players took part in?

Honestly, Hawkeye was not worth spending good will and money on. He's a support charecter.
Aren't all the Avengers technically supporting characters when they're in a movie together?

Also:

1. Wonder Man cost us more goodwill than Hawkeye. We even nearly had to cut his movie out for a Hulk sequel before Vaughn, bless his soul, intervened.
2. We made 4x the budget for the movie. And in February, a dump month for bad movies, while competing against a Leonardo DiCaprio movie as well, mind you.

Pretty much this. Heck, I never knew who Wonder Man even was before this Quest and I still don't know the context about the hype around him all that much. (I'll admit my comic knowledge is sparse, especially with older comics, so I may very well be unaware of how big of a role he played. The only old storyline I read was the Infinity Trilogy.)

Hawkeye is a useful avenger to showcase because he doesn't have powers (or a super suit), I think such is a very beneficial trait to have in an ensemble cast especially when we're introducing Wonder Man who is sort of a superman-esque marvel character. Hawkeye is a much more down to earth character and gives us some different and useful story beats to play with.

It depends on each movie, for some I roll dice, for others is QM judgement.

I was wondering, while we haven't taken any specific action to learn about DC's plans, but is there any knowledge publicly available at all?

Same here. And I've never even picked up a comic book ever.

I'd never even heard of Wonder Man but this quest has pushed me to read his comics - part of that may be inspired by my new Hayden Christensen head canon but that's just me :p

...Curse my softheartedness.

Fine, I guess I can give you guys a freebie since this has been going on for a while now. But only this once.

DC: A new movie is set to be premiered in 2010 directed by Taika Waititi. Kevin Feige has also been in direct talks with Christopher Nolan about Batman.

Taika Waititi, huh? I know he's a comedic director, so perhaps he's either directing a movie for either the Flash or Green Lantern. This is just my speculation, though.

Dealing with Favreau once more left you feeling both dread and anticipation. Dread as you knew that he once more would try to keep his vision and ideas for Iron Man as intact as possible, and anticipation as you knew how amazing those could be by their own. Personally you'd received many a pitch which would have Ivan Vanko (or at least some character related to him) from different writers, and you knew that Justin Theroux initial pitch to Favreau also had him appear in some capacity, so hopefully there will be enough similarities for you to find common ground.

Jon Favreau's Inspiration: 98

You...you don't know how to feel now...

Okay, from the beginning, you had gone to Favreau ready to find a way to cooperate for the sequel to Iron Man. You had discussed the integration into the MCU, had reaffirmed your position to get Mockingbird for the future film (which he appreciated) and then when it came to discuss the story he dropped the bomb on you.

Theroux had made two different drafts instead of one.

The first Draft has Tony Stark be dying because of Palladium poisoning inside his chest, and doing everything possible to either drive those he cares out of his orbit in order to protect them while he drowns in hedonism and inaugurating a technology exposition (The Stark Expo) for an entire year. At the same time two villains are introduced: Ivan Vanko and Justin Hammer. Ivan Vanko will seek to attack Tony Stark in order to expose Tony's father's shady past and how he betrayed his own. Vanko will escape prison and seek Hammer to convince him to support him in his mission to ruin Stark's reputation and legacy.

This draft it's pretty good, it really plays with Favreau's belief that in the end Tony Stark's greatest enemy has been himself. There is a lot of introspection as Tony has to fight his own demons, realize the damage his father has done and ponder if he is destined to follow the same path, or if he overcomes it and his own flaws to become the hero he can be.

Heavy stuff.

The second draft it's a bit more lighthearted. In a way it follows the same path, and has the same villains, but it switches focus there. In the second draft the main villain would be Justin Hammer, and while the Palladium poisoning would be included there would not be an Ivan Vanko to attack him (though there is a note mentioning the possibility of including a technician in Hammer's employment who might be called that as a setup for a future film). This movie would have Hammer obtaining the War Machine armor, load it with guns, study it, and at the climax in the Stark Expo use it to try and tarnish Stark's name.

This idea is still heavy in the idea of Stark fighting himself, only this time in the form of Justin Hammer, who would be like the Anti-Stark, what he was before the first movie; a weapons profiteer, someone who is trying to fill in the void left by Stark and feels that he can do so by using an aspect no one had imagined: Drones.

This one seems to lean more on comedy. It does have Titanium Man as the final enemy though.

Two different ideas, both great on their own merits, and both would involve Mockingbird as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. At least you managed to convince him not to use Fury; you need Samuel L. Jackson for Hawkeye.

[] [Pitch] Use one of Favreau's Pitches for Iron Man 2; they only need some additions and changes to make it great.
- [] [Pitch] Tony Stark is dying from Palladium poisoning and there seems to be no cure; even so, behind the shadows, a new enemy lurks as it seeks vengeance on the sins of Tony's father, and the destruction of his legacy.
- [] [Pitch] Tony Stark is dying from Palladium poisoning and there seems to be no cure; however he cannot rest as his main competitor, Justin Hammer, sees the weakness in the Iron Man, and schemes now to find a way to make it his own.
[] [Pitch] Don't use Jon Favreau's Pitches; you have another idea that can be used.
- [] [Pitch] Tony Stark is dying from Palladium poisoning and drowns himself in hedonism in order to hide the pain. New enemies abound however as Hedeon Vanko and Madame Masque look for a way to bring down the Iron Man. (Duke William of Pitch) (Negotiation Roll)

Just repeating the plot of Iron man2 seems boring.

It may be kinda boring to just repeat the plot, but I honestly like this proposition best.

Honestly a concern of mine is if it would look like Tony is regressing in terms of character progression.

I think it would be good to add some element of Tony taking the initiative to ask for help in some way as part of his growth. Sets him up to be a member of a team, and also a callback to the collaboration you have in real world MIT. Perhaps having Rhodes actually tech with him, or having Tony having to fight to give Rhodes time to hack/fix the War Machine Armor.
