There Was A Different Idea: An MCU Producer Quest

The God of Thunder - Production and Post-Production: The Mighty Thor (September 2009)
The Winning Vote said:
[X] [Mockingbird] Yes, give support to Favreau to use Barbara 'Bobbi' Morse for Iron Man 2 (Negotiation Roll)
Technical Aspect

Production Quality:
110 (Natural 100)
VFX: 93
Choreography: 71
Sound Design: 81
Editing: 85

It has barely been a month since the last report, yet something seemed to have gotten ahold of James as the filming process went faster than anyone had expected! Seriously, between the speed and the VFX you wonder if this is an actual dream. You knew the man was good when it came to use it, but not this good. The eerie effect of Jotunheim, the fights displaying both strength and Magic, heck even the clashes between Laufey and Odin are so beautifully rendered so as to feel they're real.

The only part that seemed to suffer a bit was the choreography, which is understandable. For all their skill and charm both Ellis and McShane have not been in many productions where they had to do much choreographed fighting (or in the case of McShane, he's not completely at the age where he could). Still, the VFX managed to pick up the slack a bit, with a bit of creativity, to have them use Magic instead of hand to hand combat.

It does look nice, though you're not sure how the audience will take it.

Protagonists

Jason Momoa Screen Presence: 58
Tatiana Maslany Screen Presence: 72
Romance Chemistry: 100 (Natural 100 Again!)

The chemistry between Jason and Tatiana has been the topic of tabloids...again! Seriously, if you didn't know the man loved his wife and children you would also listen to what this rubbish says. It bodes well for the future of the film, and those who like romance, yet it can't be the one thing that holds up the story as well.

Jason is trying his best, and it shows in every performance, whether it's fighting the Jotuns, self-aggrandizing, or gaining a new perspective and respect for humanity…but that's the problem. He's trying too hard, and at points small signs from his previous role as Ronon Dex bleeds through. Both characters are somewhat similar, but it's the subtext and context what matters here.

Tatiana has more than held her own however. She knows this might be her big break to finally be recognized and she has seized it with a passion. From what James has told you she has spent as much time as possible researching the role, from the earliest issues to the newest appearances, and practicing her lines with whoever is available. The result is one of the finest interpretations of Jane Foster you've seen: Smart, caring, and not afraid to tell the God of Thunder where he can take his attitude.

Gal Gadot: 91

And all that still comes second to Gal Gadot playing Lady Sif. Just...wow! That woman seems to have been born for the role! Fighting in Jotunheim, standing up to Loki…Sif is determined, honorable, fun loving, yet also awkward in her travel to Midgard looking for Thor, displaying both the strength of a warrior, and the shyness of someone who's completely out of place.

The one issue had been her accent, but James had found an ingenious solution to that, just making it part of the overall story. Now Sif's accent serves as a reminder of her origins, and she bears it with pride to all who would mock her for it. The scene where she and Loki trade barbs over it is one of your favorites so far.

Protagonist Chemistry: 100 (Natural 100...Again!?!?!)

And put the three of them together and you have some of the most endearing and heartwarming scenes you've ever seen. Sif may not be with them from the beginning, but once there it's difficult to imagine them being separated at one point. James has even complained that he keeps receiving calls and petitions from his staff to make them a threesome!!

…Is that even a thing?!

Antagonists

Tom Ellis Screen Presence:
72

Tom's performance of Loki seemed to hit all the right spots, giving the full appearance of a trickster God, a man who grins ear to ear as he enjoys the misery he brings to those around him. Though perhaps a bit too much for what you expected.

Tom seems to relish on the chance to cut loose and enjoys playing the role of the villain in a way that is so charming that you can't help but like him, yet that tormented and dubious element seems a bit lacking in comparison. All in all it's a good take however.

Ian McShane Screen Presence: 90

Ah, Ian. What can you say about him that others haven't? he grasped the nature of Laufey from the start and delivered a truly magnificent performance as an "Alien" being divorced from all human (or Asgardian) morality. One could never be sure what his thoughts were, his discussions with both din and Loki fleshing the character into a being that was mystifying and fascinating to watch. Trying to parse out his thoughts can be incredibly amusing.

Antagonist Chemistry: 75

And their interactions are amusing as well. From seeing Loki and Thor banter, Laufey and Odin fighting or arguing. The villains do their role and manage to be both, terrifying and a threat to be wary of. Loki and Laufey's interactions are not bad either, you can never be sure if Laufey is actually praising Loki, or if Loki even wants the praise and is just leading him along.

Side Cast

Brendan Gleeson Screen Presence:
90

Of all the Side-Characters, you think Brendan did the best with the limited role he had. His Odin is angry, gracious, a charismatic warrior, and all without feeling out of place or jarring. He manages to blend all of them together into a single whole that makes him entertaining whenever he enters a scene. At this rate you might be tempted to increase his role in future movies.

Vladimir Kulich Screen Presence: 10

You're not exactly sure what happened here, but Kulich's performance as Heimdall was...you don't want to say "phoning it in", but at the same time you can't say that he put that much effort into it. Though a small role it was still an important one for the climax, so it's a bit jarring seeing Heimdall on screen barely reacting or putting a fight when the time came to defend it.

Eric Allan Kramer Screen Presence: 69

Eric was just having fun with his role and it shows. His scenes tend to be among the most lighthearted of the movie, with clever references and humor just flowing from his mouth. Much of his interactions with Tatiana added a touch of "old lovers turned friends" that just adds more to the character. You don't know if you'll bring him back, but you're sure you won't get any backlash if you do.

With the Production finishing early most of the Marvel Execs want you to release the movie as quickly as possible. It's a nice change of pace not having them just wanting to change things at the last moment.

You did get a call from them asking for a favor though. They ask for a Mid-Credit scene to set up something for the Captain America movie. Mainly, if you can have Heimdall, or perhaps even Sif, hiding a glowing object inside an old church in the past.

You can see where they're going with this. They also know about the plan for the Infinity Gems and want to select where they will appear. To be fair this is a good way to start the setup, and if you disagree you can always have it be something else when the time comes for the movie itself. In the end this is them asking for a favor, not them telling you what to do, so it seems like they would be fine with whatever.

[] [Mid-Credit] Add the scene with Lady Sif hiding a glowing object deep within an old church in the past.
[] [Mid-Credit] You have another idea for a Mid-Credit Scene (Write In)

There is also the question as to whether you should add a Post-Credit Scene as well. Perhaps something for the next movie?

[] [Post-Credit] Yes, I have an idea that I want to add (Write In)
[] [Post-Credit] No, I don't have an idea.

(You have 3 rerolls)
[ ] [Reshoot] Reshoot to improve a roll.
-[ ] Reroll what result? (Write-in)
[ ] [Reshoot] Intense Focus on a single roll (+10).
-[ ] Where should you focus? (Write-in)

[ ] [Scene] Add or change a story element in the movie.
-[ ] Add or change what?

[ ] [Reshoot] Delay the movie to reshoot (Negotiation Roll)
-[ ] Reroll what result and how many? (Write-in)
-[ ] Add or change what? (Write-in)

[ ] [Reshoot] No reshoot. Greenlight to release.
- [] [Reshoot] When: Write In

A.N: ...Three...three Natural 100's...I'm just going to accept your ridiculous luck from now on.

Omakes are accepted if you want to add a bonus to the current roll or for an eventual re-roll.

For the reshoots, Jason and Vladimir are the most jarring ones I feel we should focus on the most, with a possible intense focus put on Vladimir's shoots. Also, I don't oppose granting the Marvel Executives a favor and placing the Infinity Stone credits scene in.

We don't have a way to just add scores to a roll we already have, right? Since I'd prefer Loki be a *bit* higher, honestly? But he's clearly not the weakest link, so.

Kind of unfortunate that Lady Sif has never been an Avenger in the comics, but with Gal Gadot's absolute stand-out performance we definitely want to do more with her than OTL MCU does.
Does anyone have an idea for a potential Post-Credits scene?
Is it time to start setting up Avengers? Could have Fury approach Jane Foster and ask her if she can contact Thor.

[] Plan: Not a church?
-[] [Mid-Credit] Add a scene of Odin hiding a glowing object deep within a imperial tomb in china in the past

=[] [Post-Credit] No, I don't have an idea.

(You have 3 rerolls)
-[] [Reshoot] Reshoot to improve a roll.
--[] Reroll what result? (Jason Momoa screen pressence, if this roll is 70+ just spend the two remaining rerolls on Vladimir reshoots)
--[] Reroll what result? (Jason Momoa Screen Pressence)
--[] Reroll what result? (Vladimir Kulich)

This work?

Why hide the Stone in China? I'm not opposed to it, I'm just really confused as to why it would be in China of all places.
If we still want a WW2 connection. I was thinking of going for egypt, but.. it's egypt, done to death as a trope. China opens things up more to a mystical connection, and we can place a guardian there of the magical variety.

Or have China as the land of a thousand magical hotspots that got wrecked so badly in WW2, they never recovered. A weird go green message. Something for later I suppose on a tomb raid for the stone.

Edit: As for why I chose Odin instead of Sif, it was to give the stone a bit more gravitas that Odin would know what he was doing hiding a stone on earth, and that this is truly no simple stone.

For the Stan Lee cameo, I'm thinking he could be one of the researchers studying the hammer, or perhaps he's one of Odin's councilors or something.

yes its at thing that this movie or later movies should go for

So Stan Lee could be a notary at the council between the Jotun and the Gods? Though I do kinda prefer something on Earth ultimately, how about a person that gives Thor some directions shortly after Thor is cast down to Earth, maybe gives him a lift into town?

I certainly think we should give the executives the go ahead on the infinity stone nod, maybe it should be in Rus though? I feel it should be someplace that the Norse faith actually touched at some point, and we could have it either show up in either Iron Man 2, or Captain America if we really wanted with that?

I think a post credit scene giving a nice showing of Hawkeye or Black Widow would be cool, we have the actors so we can actually do a shot with either of them specifically in it. Though I'm not sure what to do exactly at this moment.

As for Reshoots, I say we just do one reroll for Vladimir, we're very likely to roll better and ultimately that roll doesn't matter too much, and then maybe spend just two plus 10s on Mamoa and someone else? If we can do two uses of Focus on a character I'd probably put them both on Mamoa, if we can't do that maybe boosting Loki by 10?

The only result that 100% needs the reroll is Vladimir, the rest can just be some focus boosts.
