The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

I'll just repost mine as well. Might make some changes soon.

Twin Reflections of the Steel Moon (Kong Zhi name) aka The Divergent Blade (Jai Fa name) (Steel/Force)

Mats: A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)

Design: A double sided battle axe with each blade edge resembling a crescent moon. The Anvil is forged into the double sided axe blade, with the Monsters Bones (perhaps a femur?) serving as the handle with the spine of the Axe made with leftover anvil steel smelted down with the rest of the Monsters bones. The Brass Knocker is smelted down and used to join the other two mats with the left over Brass used for inscriptions running up and down the handle and blade. The entire thing is 2M tall and upwards of 30 to 50 pounds of bone and metal. The skull of the Deer serves as the joining piece of the two crescent blades.

Effects: Every successful hit from the axe is followed up by a second Force Anam attack that mirrors the location and damage of the physical strike but ignores non-anam laced physical defenses. This second attack is capable of harming Kukuni/Vesitsges/Spirit Beasts/etc. It can also cause massive internal damage/bleeding if not defended properly. This can result in weakening internal defenses and interrupting Anam channeling in the opponents it successfully hits.

The Steel Anam serves as a connection and stabilizer for the Force Anam, guiding it down the blade of the Axe and delivering the Force in a consistent and orderly form. The Force Anam provides the raw power behind the second strike and runs wild through the opponents body after being directed and constrained by the Steel Anam while in the Axe.

With enough Skill and Anam, the wielder can super charge the charm with more of their Anam and launch a Force Anam Cutting Projectile at medium range. The Projectile is extremely sharp, as the Force Anam Grinds against itself to create a cutting edge. The further the wave gets from the Steel Anam directing it within the blade, the weaker the Force Anam attack becomes as it dissipates, before dissolving harmlessly once it's past a certain distance (10m? Can increase with greater User skill)

Misc: A strong force multiplier charm for Jai Fa that weakens enemy defenses and can clear the chaff in one swing. It allows her to make use of her physical skills when facing Kukuni or Vesitges and gives her a medium range attack for harder to reach enemies. A build target of ~30 let's us finish the crafting in one action and the infusing in 1-2 actions while with a DD we can create a ~50ish BT charm with 1 design, 2 Crafting, and 2-3 Infusing actions.

Inspiration: Divergent Fist from Jujutsu Kaisen

Ooh new idea for this. Anyone using the Mosnters Bones and Brass Knocker. We should melt the Brass and coat the skull of the deer in Brass and use it as the head of the Axe that connects to the Blades!

Fear the Hunter

Materials on Hand: Vestige's Ice (Ice 8), Cowardly Hooves x2 (Wood 10), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16), Flowing Feathers of the Camel Turkey (Wind 4) (not necessary but feel thematically correct)

Like the hooves of the deer failed it, so will this charm effect Fa's opponents.
Strikes fear into the hearts of prey, causing them to freeze.

The Vestige's ice forms the heart of the axe, to strike the heart of its enemies
The hooves are made in to glue and applied to the axe.
The Bones form the body of the axe.

I don't have an idea myself, but I really liked with I saw from someone else. Since they haven't been here for a bit, I figured that I would throw it out there for debate.

This is made by @tricholysis

The Horned Axe (Steel/Force)
Materials: Brass Knocker (3 Force), Still-Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)
Purpose: The Horned Axe knocks, and once it has knocked, it opens. Like the Phantom Point whose bones form the majority of the Axe's own body, this charm presents a pleasant and graceful appearance. Its two bearded steel heads and long bone handle are gilded with brass and crowned by an imitation of a stag's horns. However, if it repeats itself, it becomes increasingly insistent and overwhelming: it is ultimately a tool of monstrosity, standing taller than many. Whether it be foeman or the barred way, the Horned Axe is especially adept at cleaving obstinance clean open.
To wit: an Anvil is a piece of metal whose purpose is repeated application of force, as is a door knocker. Moreover, the Phantom Point's method is to repeatedly prepare a subject, like metal upon an anvil, before ripping them open to get at what's inside. Likewise a door knocker is designed to make a door open.

This is what the materials are for. The Bones are structural in the Phantom Point, and so they are structural in the charm. The Knocker is an adornment on the outside of a door, one with an announcement function, and here it does the same. An Anvil provides the metal and the resonance of repetitious force applied to a purpose: killing people. And repetition, being what all of these materials share with one another, becomes the focus of the charm.
Well, you can imagine it getting more powerful, sure, and that is the obvious way suggested by the description. But you can also imagine, say, the axe 'using the resonance, anam, and force of previous blows' and ultimately making it easier and easier to swing around, resulting in a cost reduction effect. Or anything else of that nature. Or you could combine those two suggestions, and have the axe give a passive enhancing effect to repeated attacks, and each round the buff stacks (probably to some soft cap) and also gets cheaper (and eventually free or 1 anam per use), or something. But this, again, is not really the point.
I really like the fluff on the different materials, and why they were chose and what they're intended to do. I'm not an expert, but that just seems like a very solid idea.

Though the only thing that I feel like debating about, if it does get a lot of support, is the name and the appearance. 'The Horned Axe' doesn't seem to really fit with the main theme of the build. That's probably meant to describe the antlers, but those are antlers and not horns and I'm not that big of a fan of their inclusion either.

Maybe ditch the refined appearance, and lean into the bone and raw metal. I'm thinking something like a honed edge, with the axe getting more refined and deadly. Both in appearance, and in function. So maybe have the main body of the axe head be rough, like ore, and then the blades are more refined and polished. Maybe find some way to put the metal into the bone, and make it look like it's grown out of it. So the bone becomes even more of a foundation, and it should make it stand out even more. Maybe have clusters of the 'ore' coming out of the top and the bottom of the bone. Giving a small cluster for a pommel, that sort of corresponds to the cluster on the head. Then the bone itself could be more polished and refined. At least in the middle, getting more refined the further away from the ore.

I'm sort of liking that general idea, but I don't have a name and I think I should wait for some input. Besides, the basis of this isn't even my original idea. So I'm not sure how to proceed because of that as well.

E: We could maybe have the brass knocker melted down, and then made to be like the ore in the rough metal. Thin veins of it running through the dark metal or the anvil.

Just an idea, since it was the only thing left out.

Phantom Strike (Steel/Force)

A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)

Drawing energy from the force of the user's strikes, this blade creates a phantom duplicate made of kinetic energy. This phantom can either trail off the main blade for a wider strike, or lobbed at far-off opponents with a swing of the main axe.

Note: I'm drawing inspiration from both Soul Eater's Witch Hunter technique (enlarging a scythe blade to frightening proportions), and Bleach's Getsuga Tensho (creating blades of force by swiping a sword at the enemy).

Jai Fa's a mighty glacier type who fights best at short range. However, if a target is fast enough, or far away, she'll have greater trouble getting to them. My hope is this axe will cover both weaknesses, by not only allowing her greater coverage when she swings the axe, but greater range when she wants to attack far-away enemies.

The Rose of Battle:
Axe Charm (Weapon)
Components: Still Growing Sapling (Wood/Life 13), A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3)
Inspiration: The Twice Forged Thicket, and Jai Fa's pretty but painful nature.
Construction: The Sapling forms the axe haft. The Anvil is used for the blade. The Knocker is reshaped as a counter-weight.
Appearance: I picture the final charm to have an organic living metal appearance, more like it was grown, rather than constructed from separate pieces. So it will be a massive bladed axe, but with a slightly crooked shape. There will be a massive axe blade, but the other side will resemble a massive sharpened rose thorn. Perfect for ripping into things, or tearing armour off. The entire weapon has thorns of steel growing out of it, more on the blade and less where Fa would grip it. Emerald dust used to form a pattern of leaves from the counter-weight all the way up to the tip of the blade, which also draws out and links the Earth anam from the Steel and Wood aspects. Turquoise to inlay a single elegant rose into the blade, to match Fa's eyes.
Function: The main feature of this weapon is the numerous steel thorns that grow on it. These can break off when the axe hits an enemy, embedding the thorn in their body. The thorn then grows to hinder their movement. Through an expenditure of anam, these thrown can also be fired as a ranged attack. The number of thorns is limited, but can be replenished by cycling anam into the weapon, which also allows the weapon to regrow from any damage and resharpen itself.
Aspect usage: Wood/Steel makes the growing steel thorns. Force used to fire them as a ranged attack when needed. Life/Wood to allow the charm to be repaired/regrown through cycling (and a splash of water). Steel/Life for cutting life directly when needed.

I realise that this only has a base BT of 23 and looks a bit light on Steel. However, the use of Chui Dao to construct this will convert some of the other anam to Steel, which could end up with all aspects perfectly balanced (meme), and I expect we'll get at least a starting BT of 30 (if not more) from the design phase. Which when doubled down on, makes this at least as strong as Dance at the Midnight Crossroads.
I would also like to see what effect performing the design phase in an anam rich environment like the Twice Forged Thicket will have, as that is a mechanic we haven't tried yet.
I have decided not to add any of the new materials onto this, as while they have the right aspects, they don't really have the right material properties. I also don't want to throw big materials at something when it means we'll just take even longer to finish this.
A DD should be more than sufficient to make up for any shortfalls in the materials (which are still pretty good anyway).

A Glimpse of Winter

Legends tell that far, far to the north, there exists a vast forest, dark and nameless, one that is said to be as old as the world itself, and one that Winter has in its ire shackled into chains of eternal ice, plunging the once bountiful realm of life into a losing struggle against stillness that comes for all things.
Even the very boughs of that primeval forest seem to reflect this terrible strife, for their once verdant crowns and hides had turned wyrd in their desperation, and they clad themselves into a dark, metallic guise, to safeguard what little life remained in their bosoms.

Sadly, these proud Ancients were not the only ones changed by their plight.

Deep within those frozen, cursed woods, there roams a gruesome monster, whose breath is said to be winter and whose pitiless gaze promises death. It was once a steadfast guardian of nature, mighty and noble, a guardian and shepherd. Before Winter came.
Now, it stands twisted by all the hunger and sorrow around it. Its massive frame has been turned into a skeletal husk, its magnificent head reduced to a seeming of a skull. Even its majestic antlers had lost their lustre, and have turned white and dead.

Worse than its physical devastation, however, was the one caused to its mind.

Possessed by an eternal hunger and bitterness fit to choke the world, the once majestic creature stalks its former domain, caring little where its next meal comes from. For it has kept its awesome strength; And no beast, human or kukuni can stand long against its long grasping claws, akin to blades of black steel, that rend and tear all that they encounter in their wake.
Its formerly swift stride gait had suffered, and turned slow and lumbering, but this proves no respite for its victims. What the Horror had lost in speed, it had regained in its icy aura, which saps vigour and will of those poor lost souls it hunts to their grisly end.

Some sages claim the tale false. A mere parable that laids bare the darker aspect of one of the less popular phases of the Cycle of Seasons. One upon a time, you thought so too.

But as you stare into the icy remnant of the Vestige you and Fa slew almost a lifetime ago, and as the Ghastly Horn of the Phantom Point pulse balefully at the edge of your vision, you fear that you now suspect the truth. For you have seen a glimpse of Winter.

Materials used: Vestige's Ice (Ice 8), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16), Ghastly Horns (Deception 18).

Form: The Glimpse of Winter is a giant, serrated affair, with an axeblade on one side and a massive spike on the other. The Axeblade itself has separate multiple irregular points akin to claws or teeth, and is made of Phantom Point bones and regular steel. A large part of the Vestige's Ice is shaped into a large brutal spike. The haft is made of Phantom Point Bones, with plain bleached skinned hide serving to help wielder grip the axe and its topped by one of the Ghastly Horns, which has been carved to resemble the head of the Monster, and its eyes are made of Vestige's Ice. The Ghastly Horns have been bleached, one as mentioned already serves as the top of the haft, the other has been cut into tiny pieces, some to be used in the damascus process and others for various decorations that vividly evoke the frozen forest and its denizen, as enamels, carving, scrimshaw and its ilk. The same goes for what little remains of Vestige's Ice.

Tentative mechanical suggestions: Wielder of the Axe can call upon the palest of shades of the Monster's otherworldly might. Their strikes will be stronger, and will be able to harm kukuni, vestiges and beasts. Such is the pitiless cruelty of the Monster, that wounds dealt to the wielder's opponents will be more terrible than they otherwise would. In addition, the Axe exudes an aura of cold dread in the wielder's enemies, slowing them down and once enough time has passed dealing mental damage to them.

Dilemmas: I thought about using either a Cowardly Hoof or a Still Growing Sapling as an alternative to the Ghastly Horns. This would probably reduce the potency of the physical boosts and outright remove the mental assault aspect of the Axe, but it could be replaced by a form of lifesteal or a form of nasty damage over time attack bonus. Teoretically Cowardly Hoof could also increase the speed of the wielder.

It was actually a reference to Cultist Simulator, where a particular Horned Axe is a very important piece of the setting. That being said, another, non-reference version could exist:

Rut (Steel/Force)
Materials: Brass Knocker (3 Force), Still-Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)
Purpose: Rut is a towering bundle of deer vertebrae, femur, tibia, and ribs crowned by a brass-gilded stag's skull, whose antlers have been torn away. In the remaining ragged voids sprout two rough burred steel cheeks and their accompanying beards: one could think that someone cut an anvil in half and pounded each piece flat. Rut is, initially, an axe, if a monstrous one. However, with each passing exchange, it gathers energy, becoming increasingly insistent. Like the pounding of boots on a parade ground, its resonance grows with each addition, knocking aside any obstacles before its wielder's charge.

Cultist simulator! A person of culture! This one is my new favorite.

The Shackled Skeletons (Steel/Beast/Force)
Materials: Shell Fragment (Beast 14), A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)
Description: A disorderly conglomerate of shell and bone, sharpened to razor edges and trapped in metal shaking with force, The Shackled Skeletons grow more violent as a fight goes on and anam is expended, the pieces of slain beasts pushing against their metal cage to rip and tear within the area allowed to them.

Inspired by by personal love for metal skeletons, and that one possessed chainaxe from 40k that bites people with teeth more literal than usual.

A Passing Fancy
The Monster's Bones (Steel 16), The Ghastly Horns (Deception 18)
Design: The white-haired warrior holds in her hands... something. Your eyes slide off it, even as you try to understand it's appearance. As soon as the image appears in your mind, it is gone. She takes a stance, and swings, and your friend is transformed from a living being to a mess of blood and meat.
An axe made from the beast's bones and inlaid with powdered dust from the antlers, set in dizzying whorls and curves that suggest an optical illusion.
Effect: Once infused, A Passing Fancy cannot be perceived as long as the owner imbues anam into it. This goes beyond mere invisibility - it affects the target's mind directly. One forgets the weapon as soon as one perceives it.
It is this fruit's opinion that the best suggestion for the axe has already been made.

Reposting my design

The Force of Steel
The Monster's Bones (Steel 16), The Phantom's Hide (Steel 21), A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3)

Design: The bones of a great beast sharpened and molded into a great axe that vibrates with great power it's handle is wrapped in a metal hide that serves to further add to the axe's brutality.

Effect: When anam is channeled into the axe's blade it conjures dozens of sharp metal shards filled with steel anam that are launched in the direction it is swung (this acts as an archer charm), if the knob of the axe is planted into the ground and anam is channeled into it a wave of force is unleashed around the wielder(AOE), the user can also channel anam into the eye of the axe unleashing a wave of force that quickly propels the wielder in the direction opposite to where the axe is pointed at (Movement). The effects can be used in quick succesion ex. Using the movement ability to launch yourself into a crowd of enemies then using the aoe ability to knock them away then use the archer ability to fire metal shards at the disoriented enemy.

My argument for this charm is that it supports Jai Fa in a ton of ways it gives her a ranged option, a crowd control option and a movement option ideally I want a bit of star anam or something that provides a homing ability to the shards but since we do not have that we have to make do.

Can the anvil be used for it's intended purpose instead of as an ingredient to be broken down?
I think we could, but I'm not sure if it is valuable as a regular anvil for us. We have Chui Dao that greatly eases any crafting of metal, something which the anvil would normally be used for.

If we want to be using a special anvil, for whatever reason, we have access to a particularly potent one in our wonder "The Black Anvil."

Looking at all the BTs thrown around, we can get away with DD for most designs with only 5-6 actions spent on the axe.

I'm not sure on the math for a BT of 40+ but 2 Craft actions plus the 1 design actions is a baseline of 50+ successes just from Chui Dai without any rolls added in. Then we can hopefully infuse it in 3ish actions (I think our infusion rolls average out to 18ish per action).

Hmm, speaking of, @Vesvius, it was noted early on by Zhi that Miststeel tools are valuable as they prevent ambient Anam from being added to the charm as its crafted.

What is Zhi's opinion or theory on what would happen if he crafted a Charm in a Natural Wonder, a place absolutely soaking in Anam of a specific type? Obviously he won't know but he is obviously more knowledgeable on the matter than we are so his insight on the matter would be great.

A Very Strong Axe

Materials: A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Ifeagrass (Blood 3), The Phantom's Hide (Steel 21), The Monster's Bones (Steel 16)

Inspiration: Jai Fa has always been a stalwart companion, strong, stoic, and without frivolity. Her axe should be just like her: a reliable and powerful friend.

Design: A large, solidly built, and seemingly plain axe. It gives no external sign of being anything but a good weapon. The core of the shaft will be Monster's Bones engraved with charm ruins designed to be receptive to Fa's personal Anam. We melt down the Still Shaking Anvil to encase the bones for the shaft and to form the blade. The steel shaft is also engraved with runes. The Phantom's Hide will be made into leather strips that will be dyed in a mixture of ifeagrass and Fa's own blood and the engraved on the inner side so the runes are hidden from sight, then wrapped around the shaft for an ideal grip sized to perfectly fit Jai Fa's hands.

Effects: It's a very strong axe. It's big, heavy, sharp, and tough. Every swing is a little bit harder than with a normal axe. Every strike bites a little deeper. Lesser weapons bend, chip, dull, and shatter. This one does not. It is unyielding.

What more do you want? Ok, fine. It does have a secret.

A Very Strong Axe's full potential is only realized in Fa's hands. It is a conduit for her techniques, treated as an extension of her body. When she strengthens herself, she also strengthens the axe. When she summons the Tyrants Blade, it appears at the end of the axe, changing it to a halberd and further strengthening it. As a receptacle of her own Anam, the axe may grow and transform as she uses techniques through it, just as her body does. It wouldn't be much of a companion if she outgrew it.

Edit: From suggestions switched out the knocker (which was kind of redundant) with Ifeagrass and Fa's blood (not listed as a crafting material, but makes sense with what I'm going for). The blood is to help it be resonant with her Core.

Nice, looks like a more extensive version of my design which compensates for the added functionality with the addition of The Phantom Hide. Definitely my second pick so far.

I would just make a couple small recommendations.

1. Add some Blood Anam somewhere like staining the Hide with some Ifeagrass. Jai Fa's Core is a mix of Steel and Blood so the addition of some Blood would probably help out with it growing/syncing with her.

2. Give the Force Anam a bit more to do as at the moment it's just kinda sitting there twiddling it's thumbs.

Edit: other than that, if my design doesn't make it? I'll be voting for yours no doubt.

I think she'd be disappointed in a weird gimmick. She just wants an Axe that won't disappoint her and be better than punching it with steel fists. The best kind of axe for her then is one that works as an axe and is a force multiplier to her martial abilities instead of being orthogonal to them.

Hmm I think adding the phantom's hide for the axe is a good idea so I will be adding it unto my design also I am quite curious if we can add qar anam from the anvil into the axe.

@Vesvius if Kong Zhi were to use the black anvil to forge the axe will it acquire war anam, Also can you please give us some possible applications for war anam?

Charm Concept: Possessed Axe

Materials: The Monster's Bones (Steel 16), Snake Mother's Skin (Beast 14), A Still Shaking Anvil (Steel/Force 7), Brass Knocker (Force 3)
Anam Types: Steel/Beast/Force

Form: A Huge Single Blade Axe with a Cuved Haft wrapped in Snakeskin. The Axe Blade protrudes from the Gaping jaws of a Serpents head, meticulously contracted out of carved bone shards like a three dimensional mosaic. The Blade is covered in curving runes that gleam gold. One would swear the bejeweled eyes of the serpent follow you as you move.

Construction: The Anvil is melted down and combined with some of the crushed Monster Bones , then hammered into a massive Axe. Axe and haft are all of one piece, with handle scales made of bone added to the haft and wrapped in snakeskin for a firm grip. Any leftover hide is boiled and used to make a glue, The remaining bone is carved into pieces and assembled into a Serpent's head, the the Blade emerging from it's mouth. The blade is etched with runes that will be inlayed with Brass from the Knocker, the remaining brass will be crushed, mixed with a resin then brushed onto the serpent head.

Passive Effect: The Metal of the Axe is imbued with a predator will, and unerringly seek Flesh when swung as if the blade is hunting down it's prey of it's own volition. When struck, tendrils of force worm their way into the wound penetrating deeper into the body than steel alone.

Active Effect: Should the wielder desire, they can cast out the Bestial Presence from within the weapon, unleashing it at a foe. This takes the form of a spectral serpent that will wrap itself around a target, binding it as firmly as Steel Chains. This removes the passive effect from the axe till the Beast Spirit is recalled.

-Edit-

Credit for this goes to @DangerKitty as I combined some of his ideas to come up with this design

My aversion has less to do with the horns and antlers thing, and more to do with the emphasis on beasts. We could add more materials to the axe to make Beast anam a part of the Charm, but I don't know if that's the best idea. It takes away from the established steel and force idea, and it might needlessly bloat the Charm.

I like the idea, which I assume is a part of the Cultist Simulator item, about persistence and everything. The knocker being used to try to gain entry, an anvil being used to end metal into shape, and the nature of the Phantom Point as something that time and power into it's target. I just don't know if that's something that really aligns with Beast.

So I'm all for this general idea, but I'd really like a different name and design. I don't know how you feel about that, if you want to keep yours as is and maybe create a new one.

But, either way, what do you think?

Making a name that is more representative of it's theme of working things over. Then it's appearance and the incorporation of the materials into the whole.

I'm not sure about the name, but maybe we should try to keep the purpose of the materials in line with their original use? So maybe have the brass knocker somehow be a part of the offensive design, rather than just ornamental. Then again, my other idea sort of interweaves it with the metal of the anvil. Which might add that additional Force to what the anvil has, and make it suitable as a blade. I'm sort of liking my general image, but I'm having trouble with making sure it isn't understated. It being as tall as a person, and with twin giant axe heads, might be enough. Maybe have the brass from the knocker, that's been made a part of the anvil, be made into some sort of inscription or something as it nears the edge of the blade.

It's great but adding the ifea grass seems to have no point to it I mean the axe has a range of steel 45-50 and force 6-1 without the grass due to the hammer so I do not think it is necessary to use ifea grass on the axe.
