A Friend in High Places
a Friend in high places

On mars Inside his personal Manufactorum Kelbor-Hal mused over a data copy of a holy STC that arrived four years ago the original had been interred into the temple of all knowledge after being studied as a matter of course. The STC discovery was clearly a gift from the Omnissiah and an opportunity to bind the XI and Kesar closer to him. He could not just give away the contents of the STC without showing his favour to the eleventh without rising a few eyebrows and making his fellow faithful look closer which would dangerously interfere with his secret projects that would have many a tech priest screaming herateck and traitor before attempting to kill him. But thanks to Kesar's efforts on Hearth IV he could recruit safely more like minded and less orthodox individuals who would help him with his research and solidify his powerbase further.

And the opportune moment he had waited but not quite expected had arisen thanks to his spies in the imperial palace who were on his behest trying to find out what the Emperor found so important to shut himself away for all Kelbor-Hal knew was that much warp based Archeotech Psicoreachtive martials and strangely gold plating were being used. His tech priest spies were reluctant to give anymore information as it was clear that giving him even that was dangerous enough and anymore spying around the most powerful Psyker secret project was suicide and Kelbor-Hal knew if he could lose his carefully built network of spies and give his political rival a reason to remove him or reduce his power and gain further control over the Mechanicus he would be foolish not to as tricking the faithful into a favourable by healing the knight and letting them believe him to be the Omnissiah was a political masterstroke on the golden psykers part it was a good thing that their intrusts for mankind were aliened for outright conflict against the Emperor was not in Kelbor-Hals future goals.

However those very spies had delivered to him the news that
Lorgar and by extension the word bearers had been declared Excommuniate Traitoris now he had expected the XI to casualties like station Gehenna at some point against the warp type Xenos as given their high threat rating and when Kesar clearly needed a way to prevent this he would give his ally and dare he say it... friend a means to prevent such a tragic catastrophe while the primarch would be grateful he would look into how a new pattern of power armour and Boltgun with special types of ammunition had been produced so quickly to fill his ranks so that stage Gamma of his plan could go forward.

The plan called Due of the Omnissiah and it came into being after his first meeting with the Eternal sovereign and the handing over of Station Gehenna as he had bemoaned the fact the primarchs horded hoarded any STC and printouts they found resulting in a very displeasing situation for the Mechanicus and soon after Kesar had left the Omnissiah had left within his thoughts a plan a way to gain the holy data and printouts unfortunately he would have to use the wardens as pawns however the Omnissiah had shown him the way but not the means to achieve the way. That was until the creation of MKIIB by his ally as a elegantly simple tool of the moment to protect his sons had made from the reports from his Tech priests that his brothers desired something similar to increase their compliance rates.

so began stage Alpha the stage which he prepared the infrastructure and extra Explorator Fleets he began with the Explorators finding young or dissatisfied members of the faith who were uncontent to simply sit and wait for knowledge who had the spark of potential were approached by his followers of the forth degree and were ether befriended by said follower helped along by their targets personality profile to ensure success who then encouraged them to see that there place was among the stars and it would please the Omnissiah greatly that such talent was being used in his name. While others sudden great revelations that seemed to be happing with shocking frequency and strangely had the Same message "go to the stars." Soon a wave of zeal seeped over Mars causing shipbuilding production to increase tenfold as shipwrights believed they were following the Omnissiahs direct commands as the newly ordained Explorators needed ships to carry out his will and it was their holy duty to make it so however it would despite the iron ring and the refitting of old mothballed ships three years to do .

Kelbor-Hal
had not been idle the three years that the ships were being built as he approached Magos and Arch Magos alike for favours such as the retooling of a production lines at his request when the time came or cargo ships to necessitate the transportation of the wardens gift as his offering to help the politically weary Magos Varick and others like to obtain forge moons like Skaras III and Skara totalling 50 in number knowing that they should be built in time before any results of useful STC would appear.

now he had achieved stage alphas objectives stage beta could begin and with Lorgar's betrayal he could do away with the distasteful part that reacquired Kesar to sacrifice his sons now he could say only trusted Kesar and this new equipment and production lines of the forge moons was equivalate of twenty forge worlds was encase of a legion going rouge. his ally would be a fool to turn down his aid and once the new power armour and Boltgun was in use and once the other legions knew that he could supply only half of them at the currant time of reviling they would have to negotiate for them and hand over the STC and printouts as well as ones in the future in exchange for the new weapons. If they refused to for any reason to hand over the STC printouts and future dark age Tech he would make it as difficult as possible for them to restive any new weapons and ammunition that would grind them to the pace of at lest ten planets a year even if this failed. it would remind the primarchs who made their conquests possible and not all of his new favours were materiel making sure that any consequences he suffered minimal.

returning to the present Kelbor-Hal could not help but admired the patterns of power armour and Boltgun that would further the Quest for knowledge

The power armour was superior to the MKII and MKIIB in every way there was no truly flat surface on it except were the power pack met the armour instead it was slightly cylindrical on the front and back to better deflect incoming bullets and doubled the effective thickness while the rest of it looked similar to the MKII its curvature made it looked while the helmet looked far less ungainly what made the armour better was the internals the fibro mesh was simply better until combined with a crystal lattice had incredibly shaved off two minutes of the previous armour Kelbor-Hal theorised that it could carry twice as much armour If the speed if offered was sacrificed. It had better targeting programming also it allowed for the helmet to link with the new boltgun so the user merely had to shoot and the cogitator would do the rest the final thing of note was the helmets filtration system was vastly more sophisticated allowing the wearer to survive in environments that would kill even a Astarte as well as being vacuum sealed against space complemented by an internal oxygen supply should the user find the filters lacking.

The aforementioned Boltgun was stocker but more refined then the Phobos pattern with a shorter barrel a hand grip below the barrel would allow the user to contain the formidable recoil as it had a calibre of 0.75 instead of the Phobos's 0.70 a small difference to the uninitiated however the true prize lay in what it fired. Each Bolt round fired was a dual warhead the first part of the warhead was a shaped charged head that allowed for the round to flash fray its contents into plasma allowing for a affect not dissimilar to plasma weapons that softened or outright destroyed. This allowed for the secondary adamantium tipped head to penetrate and with its more powerful charge explode violently inside the target leaving a hole the size of a human head. All the user would see was a white flash followed by a microsecond delay before the typical bolt round explosion truly it was perfect armour killer as well as a general improvement to the wardens fighting capability's.

Kelbor-Hal internally smiled to himself as he walked out of his forge he had already given the order to begin production of the new sovereign pattern power Armour and the retribution pattern boltgun would find their way into the hands of Kesar and phase gamma could begin in three years time everything was going just as he had planned.

(AN/ the armour its just the heresy pattern the reaction time will not change with future marks they just have better programming and armour changers as the fibro mesh crystal lattice is at its tech limit you would need some form of warp based mesh but the servos will need upgrading or the armour would kill the user by ripping them apart and the Boltgun is the Godwyn MKIII Boltgun that fires a round of my own making that uses the principles behind shaped charged that past armies in our world have used in their tank shells and used the theory of tandem sabot add a bit of 40k nonsense and you get a Boltround that is half based in realty and half in fantasy a true weapon of SiFi )

@Daemon Hunter what do you think of m characterization of Kelbor-Hal as a politician and his scheme to get the primarchs to negotiate while helping out his favoured Primarch the fires of industry omake was not just a one off he fully plans to invest in the new patterns Wardens as they have recorded of going out of there way to help the Mechanicus and his intrusts so he's betting on them. I think the narrative effects of this omake should be massive

if any one has a question don't be afraid to ask as I consider this my magnum opus of omakes that people will struggle to top

Shape of Purity
Shape of Purity

Over and over again Kesar had sent his Legion against worlds filled with corruption. Each time, there were so few who were completely free of that taint. Yet, the numbers of those who were only partially corrupted, who might be saved if they just had some way to cleanse them of that residual taint were so much larger. After Velnias I he'd taken the time to start working on what he though would help, a Rune of Purity, but progress was too slow. So many millions would die if he continued to fail, and so he refused to accept defeat.

After Abom VI, seeing the entire world turned to the service of daemons save for a paltry few, he was even more determined to do better. This process though, was difficult. For how would one define purity positively, as opposed to negatively? A list of things purity is not, is an easy task, but a list of things which it is? That was far more difficult. But perhaps that difficulty is a clue, only usable by one so driven as he?

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Would Purity not apply to each individual thing separately? A Pure flame, or Pure water would be entirely different things. Though, perhaps it could be designed to apply to each thing in an area around it? A kind of purity field perhaps? Something that helps keep things as they are meant to be in reality. Free of corruption, disease, taint, and the like.

But what would such a thing look like? How would one capture that idea, and put it into a form that resonates with the warp? Water is often a pure thing, but on the other hand fire purifies. Salt keeps food fresh for longer, and is often considered pure because of it. On the other hand, the same could be said of diamonds and they were the stronger object, perhaps they would be a better focus? But then, the elements themselves are pure as well. Surely there are far too many different aspects of purity to truly embody them all.

But then, did he have to? Could he instead create a Rune that hinted at a wide variety of concepts and form that variety into the singular concept of Purity? How to condense it though? Make it work together to create a symbol sufficiently connected to the idea of purity for the Rune to properly channel the warp and enforce that idea on whatever it was added to, or near. Adding different ideas seems like a recipe for diluting the meaning, unless they could be used to reinforce each other instead? But how would that be done? Could it even be done?

This rune was so much more complicated to design than any before it. A rune of fire was a simple image of the flames and its waves of heat. Nothing too complex required... but wait... This would be a rune of a completely different kind of concept. Something far more esoteric than mere fire. If no single word or image truly captured the concept of purity, perhaps a mix of them was necessary! But how to go about it? Could each facet of the rune be shaped to create a specific image? Maybe made out of the words involved?

It'd be incredibly difficult to shape something along these lines, but if its designed in the correct way... yes, fire from one angle, water from another, crystals from another angle, but what else? Snow! Ha of course, that'd be a great connector between the water and the crystal... Then maybe the crystal and the fire edged together would then turn to the water side? Haha! Yes of course! Each facet of the Rune would smoothly turn into another from the connections of the previous. Leading all of them to enforce the concept of the Rune as a whole.

Now each individual facet of the rune, must shift smoothly into another, how to go about it? Ah, yes! The edges of one facet could be used to create the planes of another! Keeping the entire Rune self-contained, and morphing from one aspect of purity to another! The complexity of such a thing will no doubt require additional space, the rune-work would have to be done with variable depth to ensure free flow between the ideas. Each facet of the Rune would have to be made up of words used to describe that facet in its purest state.

Yes, he could work with this! Alright now how best to describe the purifying flame? Warmth, energy, sanitize, cauterize, disinfect. A start, now for water? Clear, life-sustaining, cleansing, flowing, self-contained. Alright for Crystal? Homogeneous, durable, dependable, resistant, bonding. Then for Snow? Clean, driven, white, cold, free. There 10 concepts per facet. 4 Facets making up 1 rune.

This should work. Now, to test how to properly write out the concepts to from the facet, then to form the facets from each other. He knew he was on the right track, no other way of properly showing purity really made sense to him. But to create such a free flowing design, moving easily from one facet to the next, clearly showing the intended idea? All made from something denoting those facets? Truly a task worthy of a Primarch, but one he would not fail.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
AN: Doing things a little bit differently here. The idea for the rune is a kind of pyramidal structure, but with each side made into a shape that corresponds to each idea, made up of the concepts involved. So, a multidimensional version of something along these lines. I have no idea what the end result would look like, or how to do it. But I'm not a Primarch.

A Glimpse of Future: Eastern Continent Part Four
A Glimpse of Future: Eastern Continent Part Four
Vaishali is a city of delicate nature. Its intricate openwork of rainbow-colored Adamant and Ithilmar floats 300 feet over the Blackwater River in the Flowing Grasp Province, too all appearances fragility made inhabitable. Hundreds of curving latticework walkways connect towers and open plazas of similar designs, and redwood needles and bark of steel and glass prevail over décor less imitative of life. Tall redwoods grow from the crowded banks of the river through the gaps in Vaishali's construction, and their branches cast pleasant shade over much of the city. The trees and arabesque each complement the beauty of the other, and the city's geomancy make sure that no growth damages the city's structure or aesthetics. Other redwoods, engineered for stair-like growth of branches, provide access to either bank of the Blackwater.

Vaishali is a study in balance, and Eastern savants interested in the study, contemplation or appreciation thereof keeping at least one home in the city. The mechanism that floats the city draws power from the river that runs above it. Vaishali is best known for the Vine Blossom Academy, which trains horticulturists and landscapers working to integrate plants with human habitation. Each graduate breeds one new plant-tool or designs an original nature integrated town as a final project, which serves as his first financial venture. Fruit of the Vine, as they are called, are in high demand across Valhalla, especially in arid regions of the North or South.

Travelers to the Northeast see a golden-brown aura radiating through the trees for 23 miles before they reach the city of Amber Samiaren, as tourists and advertisers call it. Natives call it "the glow of home." Twenty-two miles from the city limits, at 16 evenly spaced radial waypoints, mansions provide gratis hospitality to travelers. Like the city itself, they are constructs of wood-hard amber exuded by central pine trees. That the trees produce amber to keep the mansions in good repair and arcane devices turn amber into sustainable food and pinesap into a sweet wine is miracle enough, but the city proper is more miraculous still. Thousands of pine trees operate under similar design to create a five-layered city a dozen miles in diameter, all of golden-brown amber. Bridges connect the broad plazas, manses, small villas, temples, and government buildings, while amber stairs and elevators connect the adjacent layers.

Devices implanted in the pine trees turn sap into copious fresh water, which cascades from the pine forest's highest points downward through suspended canals and fountains until it spills from the last layer into a river it creates below the city. Several of these devices produce hot springs, which provide bathing water and a source of free heating for everyone in Amber Samiaren. The hot and cool aqueducts join only before they pour to the ground so that even the impoverished survive the city's harsh winters.

Bharuch composed by Orichalcum and mithral. By law, all construction and public structures must be of Orichalcum until they surpass 800 feet in height. From that height upward, mithral is the only legal material. What began as a dictatorial incentive to develop improved techniques with the materials became a regulation of style and the city's signature. Since no stricture governs mithral color, every conceivable hue tops at least one building, but those grey-blues that best complement the Orichalcum dominate.

Bharuch serves as a depot for trade between the Water Root Triumvirate and the rest of the Flowing Grasp Province to the north and east. Enchantments on the hundred surrounding miles make the forest more navigable and passable. Its tourism board says even a lost infant could safely make its way home. Resorts dot this region of tamed forest, and the 10 Wanders far lodges sit just on the circle's edge. They serve as outposts for travelers and as deluxe hunting resorts for those who brave the untamed wilderness outside the 100-mile radius.

The Silver Weir dam is considered a wonder of the Valhalla. It remains beneath Silver Tarn, where the many rivers of Flowing Grasp become one, at the point where the great lake thins into the Silver River that runs south and west to the River of Tears. It also rests just north of the Triumvirate's southern border at that point. Should someone activate the Silver Weir, it would appear as thousands of foot-diameter black-and-white disks joined at the edges rising from turbulent waters. It covers the breadth of the Silver River and 1000 miles to either side as well, slightly concave. Light distorts around the disks before solid glass encases them for their entire length: the weir embodies the concept of imperviousness, making it unbreakable as long as it is active (which is until deactivated, since it's powered by a dedicated five-dot manse). Its sole flaw is that the source of its impermeability grows brittle for the duration.

Root Massif Prefecture is the gateway from the Labyrinth of Soothing Shadows Province to the rest of the East, but Crags of the Earth and Sky is the lynchpin of the province's prefectures. Central location, expert governance, and necessary sky travel make it the logical stop for transporting goods, travel and educated discourse.

Crags of the Earth and Sky is a prefecture of dangerous mountains and cliffs, all of earth that is thick with the roots of bent or shattered giant trees. Much of the land that people, animals, and vehicles tread is dozens of fallen forest giants, covered with moss and crushed into solid ground by the weight of trees still standing. Actual earth lies more than 100 yards beneath the foot traffic in many places and remains one foot of soil amidst a dozen foot-thick roots. Even safe paths through the dense forest rapidly ascend and descend mountains of dead trees and mile-tall root tangles, and switchbacks are a way of life for people not blessed with air travel. Conventional crops fare poorly in the prefecture, so the government imports many tons of rice and wheat each year. Certain exotic berries, nuts, and edible pine cones flourish, however. They grow under conditions difficult to reproduce, but they represent a major supplement to imports and are common at every table's daily meals. Within the mountains of dead trees and roots, rare fungi and light-aversive vines provide a living for anyone brave enough to seek them.

As Kesar waited for the meeting with his father and those he had invited, he spent the time performing research. Gene Seed was a horribly complex biological device, and the study of how it worked in the warp was extraordinarily time consuming. The resonance between gene seed and the warp had taken months to determine. He had to work closely with the Biologis, who constantly cross referenced his theories. The information they gathered allowed him to further refine his theories until finally, he understood how it functioned in the warp. It seems that all it did was create some form of artificial evolution. Effectively, the soul of the individual would gradually adjust itself to fit in an enhanced body. During this process, it would change until it resonanated with their normal body. This created a stronger soul, which increased mental faculties and resistance to the warp. In fact, this was likely the difference between Astartes and the Thunder Warriors. The latter simply had the physical modifications, so their soul and body were not stable with each other, leading to rampant warp mutation at times. Now however, Kesar's knowledge of gene seed allowed for a small, but significant increase to his recruitment rate.

*Recruitment rate increased to 13,000*

Following this, Kesar looked into how Gellar Fields interacted with warp engines. After all, with the continuous changes in how the propulsion occurred, there should be some change in the Gellar Field since it depended highly on gravity. Yet, there was no discernable change. For weeks, Kesar worked on this topic, before he had a breakthrough. The warp had layers. Well, technically the warp had several dimensions beyond the normal three-dimensional materium. However, the Gellar Field and the warp engines operated at different dimensional frequencies, which meant they did not interfere with each other. As such, there was effectively no interaction. The only real issue was that every time the warp engines shifted to using electromagnetic forces, the Gellar Field produced some slight differences, but this was research for another time.

Sadly, Kesar was again unable to make progress on the Purity rune. From what he could see, the rune was simply so complex during the initial foundation stage, that he would need to meticulously etch every detail for months. With a microscopic mistake breaking the rune, it would take an extremely long time before Kesar managed to create one, but hopefully he would have a breakthrough soon.

*Gene Seed Mastery – Master Completes*
*Gellar Field Engine Interaction – Master Complete*

With his research done, Kesar sat down and reviewed reports from his Legion. This year, he had sent Wardens to Valhalla to begin training the local PDF. Sadly, not much occurred, since the Wardens were new to training troops. As such, they spent most of the year creating an organized bureaucracy to deal with this. However, next year training should begin.

Additionally, Kesar also spent time designing education facilities. He found a great deal of inspiration from a few unexpected sources. The first was from the existing Valhallan school system, which while very impersonal, was effective. After modifying it to make it more applicable to a variety of worlds, Kesar was pleased. The concept was divided into several levels. The first was a set of basic education facilities to just learn the basics of the galaxy that was safe to learn. Specifically, knowledge of basic math and proper respect for machine spirits. This would likely help the MEchanicus as they would have a better pool of recruits, which would increase production. However, school systems were expensive to set up.

The next category involved a second education tier where only the best were brought. These universities would conduct simple research and likely assist with research in a particular area. Of course, this would not be as effective as a Primarch, but it would be useful nevertheless. However, it would be expensive.

The final category would be a crowning achievement. A facility where only the best in the galaxy were brought. It would revolutionize research, but it would be nightmarishly expensive. However, it would make most research take far less time.

After reviewing his notes, Kesar decided to visit his brother Perturabo. The Iron Lord has proved necessary on Aam, and his arrival saved thousands of his sons. It was only fitting that he be thanked for his efforts. When Kesar arrived, Perturabo was deep in paperwork, before the Iron Lord noticed his arrival. When he noticed, Perturabo stood up, his face his usual emotionless mask.

The two brothers shook hands, but Kesar was unsure if this got across how much of a favor Perturabo had done for him. The defenses for Valhalla would undoubtedly prove useful in the future, and the Iron Lord's intervention on Aam III was the only reason he would not have to pour more resources to tame the world. As such, in the millisecond he took to process this, the XIth Primarch made a decision.

To this effect, Kesar wrapped an arm around Perturabo and patted his back. Kesar then ended the hug and spoke. "Thank you, Brother. Your assistance at Aam was greatly appreciated." As he said this, he noticed that the Iron Lords eyes crinkled slightly, but this could have been for any number of reasons.

Noticing that his Brother seemed to be waiting for him to continue, Kesar did so. "I would also like to thank you for the designs for the Valhallan defensive grid. I've implemented stage 1 and will implement stage 2 when I can spare the industrial capacity."

At this, the Iron Lord regained shuffled his foot for a moment, a gesture not seen on Perturabo since his emotional mask is nearly always on, then he spoke. "While I understand your appreciation, could you avoid future physical contact." At Kesar's nod, the Iron Lord changed the topic. "I assume that you are meeting with the Emperor after this?"

"I am indeed. While I do want our brother to be brought to justice, there is still hope for him." As Kesar said this, he noticed that Perturabo had slightly moved his eyes. "Brother? Is there something incorrect in what I said?"

"I apologize brother, but the Emperor will explain. I don't want to provide incorrect statements." At this, Kesar began to think of what occurred. From what he knew, Lorgar had suddenly betrayed the Imperium, or at least planned to. He tried to turn Angron against Kesar himself but had failed. When his actions were discovered, he fled to the Eye of Terror. Why there? The only thing there were daemons…

At this, Kesar's thoughts ground to a halt. His brother Lorgar was Lost. That was the only explanation. The sudden meeting between himself, Alpharius, Konrad, Lion and Leman suddenly made more sense. This entire time, he wondered why it was these Legions that were called instead of more generalized Legions such as the Luna Wolves. However, if he considered fighting a Lost Primarch, it was perfect. Lion was a brilliant tactician, Leman was immensely loyal, Alpharius and Konrad were masters of asymmetrical warfare, and the Eternal Wardens were unrivaled in slaying daemons. How would he deal with his Lost brother? Should he try rescuing him? Killing him? He didn't know.

As he stood in thought, Perturabo was oblivious to Kesar's thought process. From his perspective, most people needed time to process information. It was clear his brother was simply mulling through his options. It would be counterproductive to interrupt. However, from what he knew of social interactions, he thought he knew the optimal response. Physical stimulus combined with a few words of advice on slaying his brother should work. After all, it was unlikely Kesar actually cared about Lorgar.

As Kesar was torn on how to proceed, he felt the Iron Lord grasp his shoulder. "Brother, you brother is dead. Avenge them." Perturabo was pleased at his social maneuver. Lorgar was now dead to all of them as he had turned traitor. As such, it was necessary for Kesar to avenge the rest of his brothers. Kesar however, had a different interpretation. From his perspective, he thought back to the memorial he made of the IInd Primarch. The daemons would not claim another one of his brothers. For now, he would reserve judgement of Lorgar until his brother stood before him in chains.

"Thank you Perturabo." As he said this, Kesar patted Perturabo on the shoulder before leaving. As he left, the Iron Lord called after him.

"This was a productive discussion, please visit again." When Kesar responded positively, Perturabo was rather pleased that his skills were being utilized. He hoped that this would continue, but for now, he needed to complete the task assigned to him by the Emperor.

Meanwhile, Kesar travelled to the Imperial Palace as his father had requested. By now, Kesar was sure of what the meeting would discuss, but there was almost certainly information he did not have at the moment. His dealings with Alpharius always proved that. As he thought of the elusive Primarch, he paused. Something was off. When he turned towards his left, he noticed a small change in the environment. A few pebbles were moved slightly. If he was not a Primarch, he wouldn't have noticed this, scanning the area for movement, he searched. Finally, he noticed movement on the road. Turning fully, he noticed Alpharius who somehow did not notice that Kesar had spotted him.

At this, Kesar grinned before speaking. "Brother, I am glad that you decided to meet me early." At this, Alpharius turned on the spot, clearly surprised before he responded.

"Kesar, I. I didn't expect you to see me." The Primarch of the Alpha Legion stood up to his full height and rubbed the back of his head.

"If you would like, I can just turn around and come back in a minute." Kesar was enjoying this. Alpharius was rather flustered, but he managed to retain his emotional mask.

"Now Kesar, how do you do that?" Alpharius cocked his head and had managed to regain his dignity.

Kesar simply smirked and walked forward. "Whatever do you mean Alpharius?"

As Alpharius just sighed, Kesar continued onwards. "I'll just wait here. I can sneak past Konrad and yet my entire Legion can't sneak past you." When he heard this, Kesar just laughed and move on forwards.

Meanwhile, Alpharius just smiled and spoke. "You never cease to amaze." Then, the elusive Primarch walked past Leman Russ and Lion into the room where Malcador and the Emperor met.

In the room, the Emperor of Man, Malcador the Sigillite, Konrad Curze the Night Haunter, Alpharius the Hydra, Leman Russ the executioner, the Lion, and Kesar Dorlin Daemonsbane had so the Emperor could reveal something of importance. When the Primarchs arrived, their honor guards were dismissed before the Emperor spoke. "MY SONS, YOU HAVE ALREADY HEARD OF LORGAR'S BETRAYAL. I AM AFRAID THAT THERE IS MORE TO IT THAN YOU THINK." Alpharius already knew what was coming, but he remained attentive. "YOU ALL KNOW OF THE WARP XENOS AND THE GREATER DAEMONS. HOWEVER, THERE IS ANOTHER GROUP ABOVE THEM, A SET OF 4 ARCHDAEMONS THAT FEED OFF OF WORSHIP. THEY HAVE SET THEIR SIGHTS ON MANKIND AND HAVE TAKEN YOU BROTHER FROM US."

At this, Leman snarled. "Father, I will bring him before you. Just give the order."

Surprisingly, the normally quiet Lion also spoke up, "That changes nothing. I demand he be punished for the deaths in my Legion and the Salamanders."

During this, Kesar kept silent, and wondered how exactly he should feel about this, but for now, he felt

A Call For Assistance
The Vigilance, flagship of the Eternal Wardens, loomed mightily beyond the gravity well of Melchia V, a recently industrialized Agri-World that had sworn its allegiance to the Imperium shortly after its discovery by the Sons of Kesar Dorlin. However, the usually jovial primarch was absent from the planetside festivities. In fact, he had not even set foot on the world, having assigned Oriacarius to bring the planet into compliance.

This was unlike the normal behavior of the Daemonsbane, who would normally ensure compliance in person if he were in the system. It was speculated that this was caused by the declaration of Lorgar Aurelian's status as Excommunicate Traitoris. While it would be an understatement to say that there was resentment between them, Kesar had never imagined that such a thing could happen again. He never believed that a day would come when a second plinth beneath the roof of the hegemon could be made empty. Prior to Lorgar's betrayal, the Wardens' Genesire had even stated that although he did not agree with his brother's views, he wished that their differences had not divided them so. It is no surprise then that many believed Kesar Dorlin to be grieving over the Aurelian's betrayal and taking time to collect himself.

However, this was not all there was to the Daemonsbane's absence. While still grief-stricken over the fate of his brother, Kesar refused to merely wallow in his despair. Instead, he channeled his anguish into determination, and dove into his work with a greater intensity and focus than ever before. Nearly all of his time was spent in his laboratory, aided by the most powerful Librarians from both the Eternal Wardens and the Thousand Sons in his quest.

In particular, Kesar worked to finally create the long sought-after Rune of Purity, hoping that it may either free his brother from the Dark Powers that had taken him or, should that fail, give him a peaceful death. However, that goal still eluded him. No matter the shape, arrangement, foci, or components used, a Purity Rune would fail to form. It was as though the Warp itself resisted its completion. Despite all his efforts, he lacked the resources to bring Purity into being. It was then that the Primarch of the Eternal Wardens chose to ask for assistance, hoping that he might either acquire the materials needed to finally add Purity to his Legion's Runic Library or find that one of his brothers could succeed where he had failed.

Under the advisement of his Thousand Sons attachment, he decided to contact Magnus the Red, who possessed the wisdom of Prospero's Great Libraries as well as complete knowledge of Kesar's own previous Runic creations. Their discussion was not an easy one to have. Their Astropathic Choirs lost contact several times as the Warp seemed to swirl and churn and roil with a far greater intensity than was normal. In the end, it required Magnus and the Librarians of both Legions to force back the rumblings of the Immaterium personally in order for the two Primarchs to communicate.

"Brother, it has been quite some time," said Kesar. "How have you been?"

"I have been well, brother," replied Magnus. "The Occulus you sent me has done wonders for my research. Now, shall we discuss the real reason you contacted me?"

"Magnus, I don't mean to-"

"Brother, maintaining this connection is very tiring. I would prefer to skip the pleasantries for the sake of expediency if at all possible."

"Very well then. I come to you with a matter of great urgency. You know of my method of Runic creation, do you not?"

"Of course I do. Why do you ask?"

"I have been attempting to create a new Rune for my Legion and yours to utilize. Specifically, a Rune of Purity. However, despite all my efforts, I have been unable to complete it thus far. I would like your aid in this endeavor."

"I would be honored, brother. What has prevented you from completing it before?"

"Simply put, it is as if the Warp rejects its creation. Despite all the components being individually compatible, some strange force seems to be preventing them from coalescing. It is as if their natures are made to repel each other whenever they approach unification."

"This is highly troubling, Kesar. Especially given the state of-"

"Yes, I had suspected as much. You believe this to be the work of them as well?"

"... Possibly. I would rather not jump to conclusions but that does seem the most likely reason."

"So what should be done about this, brother? I fear there is no place I can go where this problem would be solved."

"Kesar... if you would allow me to I could see if I can create the Rune you seek."

"Truly? Thank you Magnus, I-"

"However, I regret that I must make one request of you in return."

"What is it?"

"No matter what happens, do not die for this. I have already lost one brother, and now it is almost certain that I will lose a second. Promise me that you will not follow."

"Very well. I promise."

"Then it is done. Well, now I shall see if my Warding Runes are as powerful as I theorized."

"Wait, you finished it?"

"Only the prototype. Now all that is necessary is some... stress testing."

"You never cease to amaze me, brother."

"I could say the same of you. Farewell, brother."

"Goodbye, Magnus."

When their conversation was finished, Kesar looked around to find that all the Librarians around him were panting, with only the Thousand Sons able to stand, if barely. Their Navigator informed them that the Warp had become more turbulent, a clear sign that something was upset. And that was perhaps the greatest indication that Kesar had done the right thing.

Codex: Runes of the Imperium
Here is a quick take on runes. Sorry if it isn't up to par. I don't write much.

Codex: Runes of the Imperium

The use of runes in the Imperium of Man can be traced to the Legion XI (commonly known as the Eternal Wardens) developed by the Primarch Kesar. This document will denote common runes and their uses.

Runes are usually engraved or drawn on weapons, armor, or equipment to supernatural effect. The Emperor has not officially endorsed their use nor condemned them, but use is accepted throughout the Imperium.

The XI and XV Legions both make use of runes, with the XI Legion making more common use due to specialization and tradition within the legion. While the XV Legion prefer the arts pioneered by Magnus the Red; they do make use of runes when appropriate especially maintenance runes to reduce strain on equipment.

Outside these legions rune enhanced equipment is almost exclusively obtained from gifts and rewards from the Eternal Wardens. A common reward for either valor or service with the XI is to enhance the personal equipment of the so honored. In the case of ships or ship captains if a rune master of appropriate skill is involved enhancement of the ships equipment may occur. Such equipment often becomes an heirloom due to its superior quality and the prestige involved from its ownership.

Codex: Runes of the Imperium Part 2
Continued from previous entry. Should have been posted together.

Basic Banishment rune: (The First Rune of Combat)

The first rune created by Primarch Kesar, it is traditionally the first an aspiring rune master will learn. The rune will increase the effectiveness of the marked weapon against demons, attempting to "banish" such to the warp, their place of origin. This rune is a common reward for valor given to the Imperial Guard that fight against Chaos forces. This reward is given with such regularity that the rune is at times used as a battle honor for units that fight against demons.

Guard units originating from Valhalla often joke that lasguns so marked are "almost useless against demons, as opposed to completely useless which they would otherwise be".

Basic Reinforcement Rune: (The First Rune of Linking)

This rune used alone gives a slight increase in quality to the item it is engraved on. The more common use is to link it with other runes to increase the second rune's effect. For example when used with a banishment rune there will be an marked increase in effectiveness against demons. While not as effective as a more advanced rune, such linking is often used when either the more advanced version is not known, available to the practitioner, or it is deemed to take too much time to inscribe a more advanced version of the desired rune.

The art of linking runes often is begun with this rune.

Reinforcement runes are almost never given alone as gifts due to their lack of utility.

Maintenance Rune: (The Prime Rune of Logistics)

Perhaps the most coveted rune by non Astartes individuals, the maintenance rune effectively dispenses with the need for what it is named for. The ability to operate without concern for regular use is considered invaluable on the battlefield where supplies and the time of a Tech Priest are often far too scarce. This is especially pronounced with long term operations behind enemy lines, where a volkite equipped Space Marine has an almost unlimited operation time. Certain snipers in the Imperial Guard owe their legends and kill counts to only needing the time for their power packs to recharge before reaping their deadly toll again and again.

The Tech Priests have differing opinions the use of this rune. One faction supports its use as it keeps the machines in pristine condition, thus pleasing the machine spirit. The other point of view points out the need to learn how to please the machine spirits being the principal duty of a tech priest. These views often coincide with Tech Priests on campaign or those teaching newer Tech Priests respectively.

When given the option of a reward most ship captains ask for maintenance runes to be placed on their ships gellar fields. A rouge trader is quoted as saying:
"the peace of mind this reward gives me is beyond words. There are two things a ship needs above all others; a warp drive and a gellar field. The warp drive you often have the time to repair if there is a problem, but if the gellar field goes down while in use things have already gone horribly wrong. If you are lucky you might get the chance to repair the gellar field, but you are going to be hosting demons until then. Very few live to tell that particular tale."

A Glimpse of Future: Eastern Continent Part Five
A Glimpse of Future: Eastern Continent Part Five
Mount Kahikatea is a three-mile-high tangle of kahikatea trees, growing out from lower trees' branches one after another until some undiscovered tree at the bottom derives nutrients from the earth. The city of the same name sits atop and within the tangle. Graceful spires of wood rise from the mountaintop, engraved with enlightening poetry and meaningful friezes. The city's wood comes from all over Valhalla, and the towers' beauty represents a centuries-long competition between architects and the horticulturists, though the weight of so many towers tightens the inhabited tunnels beneath them. The Copal Campanile on Mount Kahikatea's summit is the seat of government as well as a powerful Wood-aspected manse.

Hundreds of tunnels worm through Mount Kahikatea in an organic and unintentional (but recognized) imitation of Meru itself. People of the lower class live beneath the mountain's topmost canopy, and many do their work there as well. Above-canopy estates have many tunnel access points so servants can come and go without being seen more than necessary. Few tunnels need be dug. Most are natural gaps between branches, roots, and trunks of the kahikateas and more often require filling in to make them easily traversable by mortals. Wood-aspected gardeners and graduates of the Vine Blossom Academy are on hand at all times.

Serene Canopy Province borders the Labyrinth of Soothing Shadows Province at the Errant Root Massif, the River Province, and the Pataliputra just west of there, and it runs south and east until it runs out of trees. Orange trees grow freely across the land, which is its main export. It is lauded as the best in Valhalla. That the land is not as obscenely fertile as the River Province only increases demand and prices. Quiet geomantic Patten's planted among the orchards of that province further improve the Province's profit. Native horticulturists have published many theses on the subject since then, some jointly, as well as exegeses on others' publications.

Like the states to the west, Serene Canopy Province naturally contains dry hills with sparse trees. After Years of agricultural development, however, the hills are aesthetic greens and ochres designed in pleasant occult patterns that maximize tranquillity, growth and harvesting speed. Adamant pipes imbued with drops of black jade drive water to the hilltops from many wells, ensuring sufficient irrigation.

Jaipur rests atop Charcoal Mesa, surrounded by hillside orchards in Serene Canopy Province's southwest. Access to the mesa is limited by the one safe path up. Strong beams of Adamant and jade broaden the road to more than a footpath, but most of the traffic in and out remains by air. Such transport depends on clear weather, making the local sky mantis grid one of the city's most important assets. Even the surrounding orchards are harvested by small towns living on or beneath the slopes.

White Iron Phoenix Prefecture rests on the edge of the Continent. Irregular hills covered with heavy forest mark this region, though the nature of hills and trees farthest east shifts with the phase of the moon. Nandi's Pass is inconsequential to White Iron Phoenix Prefecture. It is a tourist stop for visitors from Cacophonic Winds Prefecture, crossing the border to take advantage of the lower local sales taxes. It manages a small contribution to the prefecture's lumber and medicinal herb trades.

No place in the Valhalla is better known for its wines and produce than the many orchard and vineyard plantations of the White Coast and the Pauha Basin. Possessing low-lying land with fine fertile soil that is perfect for growing trees and vines but tends to be leached of richness by normal field crops, the verdant hills of the Pauha Basin produce some of the best and sweetest fruits and berries in all of Valhalla. Valhallan poets wrote of the Ten Thousand Poems when referring to the lands now called the Pauha Basin, and most of their reasons for doing so are still valid. To this day, the plantations here host some of the finest wine festivals, leading to evenings of grand music, dancing, carousing, and sweet drunkenness.

"Beer is made by men, wine by God." ― Martin Luther

In between plantations are wild hillsides and hidden valleys, with an incredible array of natural vegetation not threatened by most wildlife. In these places grow a wide variety of herbs and plants used by herbalists, alchemists, and sorcerers in their arcane works. The region is home to the so-called "scroll estates," large rental villas used by wealthy Geomancers as bases of operation for herb-picking forays, complete with basic occult libraries, workshops, and ritual space.

The beaches of the White Coast are well named, for most of the year, they are clean paradises of white sand. In winter, though, it is not unusual for these beaches to see terribly cold weather and for frigid storms to blow in from the North. The White Coast is well known for its small seaside towns and the incredible array of manse-lighthouses.

Year 13 Part 3
[X] Resolution. The Archdaemons are responsible for corrupting your brother, your sons, and countless others. These foul creatures enslaved the minds and souls of so many. These abominations must never be forgiven. You will fight them until your dying breath.

After thinking of his brothers' actions and the Archdaemons, Kesar felt resolute. These vile creatures had twisted countless humans. They enslave minds and souls all the while hidden in their domains. They will never get anything from Kesar, even if he would die to do so. For now, however, Kesar was determined to bring the only mercy he could upon the Word Bearers and his brother.

*+10 vs Word Bearers*

Meanwhile, the Emperor of Man continued. "THAT IS WHY I HAVE BROUGHT YOU HERE. THE FIVE OF YOU ARE GIVEN THE TASK OF PROTECTING THE IMPERIUM FROM YOUR BROTHER'S FALL. YOU MAY USE WHATEVER METHODS YOU SEE FIT. YOUR BROTHER WILL PROVIDE YOU THE INFORMATION YOU NEED." At this, Malcador pointed towards Alpharius, who had been hidden by the Custodes.

At his sudden appearance, the other Primarchs merely raised an eyebrow, except for Lion. He responded by a slight twitch towards his sword but did not react other than that. Giving a slight bow, Alpharius spoke. "As you know Brothers, I have assisted the Lord Sigillite with the Imperium's intelligence services. During this time, I became aware of an organized effort by several groups. At first, the schemes were contradictory, but I managed to piece together an overarching worship of a particular being called the Architect of Fate. This Archdaemon commands the daemons that seem to specialize in divination and psykers. I did manage to clear these issues, but it was not a simple task and there were agents I am still tracking."

With this, Alpharius stopped speaking and motioned to Konrad to speak. The Night Haunter then took the stage. "These things. They must die. They would have doomed mankind. I tried to stop Lorgar. I failed." At this, the Night Haunter paused. His visions were getting better, and one of them was currently about to hit him. He had gained some control, so he paid full attention. It was a mistake. Inwardly, the Night Haunter screamed and trashed. He saw the future now, and what was to come. Thankfully, Malcador noticed the signs of a divination and managed to freeze Konrad in place. It took a nightmarish amount of effort and was only possible since the Emperor of Man assisted him. Additionally, it was also could only be done since Konrad was not actively resisting him.

To the rest of the Primarchs, it seemed as if the Night Haunter had simply trailed off, so the Lion decided to ask a question of importance. "How dangerous?"

To this, Alpharius immediately responded. "They are powerful, on the level of our father. But, they can only act through the daemons they command. There are 4 of them. The first I already explained. The second is the patron of those plague daemons. The third is the one who is worshipped by daemonnetes and their ilk. The last is the Archdaemon who is worshipped by those blood crazed cultists."

Kesar was worried about this. It was unlikely that he would be able to take a being as strong as his father. Perhaps with his entire Legion and a few others it would be possible. For now, Leman Russ spoke. "If you know where they are, I shall take my Legion and end them. I may not be as strong as father, but with the Space Wolves we can take them."

"LEMAN, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW DANGEROUS THESE BEINGS ARE. THESE ARCHDAEMONS HAVE PLAGUED REALITY FOR BILLIONS OF YEARS. THESE BEINGS WARP REALITY AND DRIVE MEN INSANE FROM THEIR VERY NAMES. DO NOT TRY FINDING THEM. YOU WILL DIE OR FORCE ME TO EXECUTE YOU."

At this, Malcador and Alpharius raised a metaphorical eyebrow, not that anyone else could tell, although Lion did seem slightly amused. Normally, the Emperor never warned people due to human psychology. Most of the time, people tended to not listen until something went poorly. Still, Leman seemed to acknowledge this and simply nodded as confirmation of his understanding. Now, the Emperor of Man took his leave before giving instructions to prevent Lorgar from damaging the efforts of the Crusade.

With this done, the Lion turned towards Kesar. As Leman walked over to Alpharius. Greeting his brother, Kesar spoke. "Brother, it's good to meet you finally. I hope my first captain was useful in your endeavors."
"He was a useful asset. I hope to work with him in the future." At this, Kesar smiled, he was glad that his assistance was appreciated.

"Thank you for the compliment Brother. I appreciate it."

"No, it is I that should thank you. Lorgar was a thorn in both our sides." Kesar frowned inwardly but left his face neutral. It wouldn't do to interrupt his brother. "His departure from Lave V came at a horrible time. In total, I estimate 70,000 Astartes died from his actions, half of those losses were from my Legion. The deaths would have increased to 100,000 if not for your first captain."

Kesar nodded at this before expressing his own thoughts on the matter. "When we met, he was rather delusional. He interpreted events differently than what had occurred. Now, I wonder if he was already falling to these Archdaemons at the time."

"You had no reason to suspect him. He was always a fanatic in his beliefs."

"I don't blame myself for his fall, although I will admit that I wish it could be different. Nevertheless, now I will stay resolute and do what must be done."

"You are different than most of us, aren't you?" At this Kesar simply shrugged and responded neutrally. He didn't see himself as different from the other Primarchs, but there were only 19 of them, or 18 now he supposed. "It's merely an observation. For now, I will take my leave, I must prepare for the campaign against Lorgar. Entering the Eye is impossible, so I must find another solution."
"It was good meeting you brother."

"Likewise." With that, Lion issued a small smile, before he left. As he left, Alpharius noticed before calling out.

"Brother, this information is meant to remain secret. Guilliman and Perturabo both know about this in full. Vulkan knows important details, and Dorn merely has a general idea." At this, the Lion simply nodded before fully departing. Now, with Kesar unoccupied, and Leman and Alpharius still in conversation, the Night Haunter walked over.

As Konrad walked over, he seemed to pause for a moment before speaking. "Kesar, Lorgar will go after you." The Night Haunter pulled out a knife at this and began to clean it.

"I suspected as much. He seems to have an unfortunate hatred of me. I'll likely have to fortify Valhalla to deal with this." As he said this, Konrad paused.

"He won't attack Valhalla."

"I mean no disrespect Brother, but how do you know?" At this, Konrad completely stilled. Inside, he was in thought. His visions were getting better. Yet, they would get worse at the drop of a hat. If he went insane, they would get so much worse. The more Primarchs that fell, the worse it would get. If his Father was injured, the Imperium would decay into a rotten corpse. His brothers would try and fail to revive it. He had seen his Brothers die in so many ways. In some, he was the torturer. He saw himself breaking Vulkan piece by piece, over and over with the Primarch unable to die as his mind slowly deteriorated. Then, it would just get worse. His dying father, with the twisted worship he was given would turn into another monster. A fifth Archdaemon, this one controlling human souls. Even in death humanity would never be free. That was the fate that awaited them. Just endless torment with no one able to stop it. And yet, it was getting better. The fall of his brothers was prevented, the damage to mankind was getting better. His visions were starting to give hints of what to do. And now, he shared his answer.

"I, I see things, Brother." The normally grim Night Haunter wasn't his terrifying self, now, he was just a broken man, desperate for a better future. "The future, it's not pleasant."

Kesar extended a hand before withdrawing it. Konrad was not the type of person who would appreciate physical contact. Nevertheless, he did try to comfort his brother. "Konrad, do you want to talk about it?"

At this, Konrad shook his head. "It's, murky. It changes constantly. It wouldn't help. It's getting better though. Slowly, but it is getting better. Thank you for that Kesar."

At this, Kesar wondered what he had done, but he decided that Konrad would likely not want to discuss this. "I don't know what I did, but I am happy to help."

"You always will be." At this, Konrad decided to leave. As he did, he smiled slightly. Just a brief twitch of the lips with a slight crinkling around the eyes. Things were looking up. Perhaps he could do something about it now. There was hope, and he would never let go of it.

Finishing up his conversation with Alpharius, Leman Russ noticed that Kesar had just finished talking with Konrad. Walking over, the Wolf King of Fenris spoke. "Brother, you never visited."

"I apologize for that Brother, but the Crusade has taken up quite a bit of my time. I have yet to visit many of our other brothers as well." Kesar could tell where the conversation was going, but he was trying to steer the conversation away from the minefield that was Magnus.

"I understand. Magnus and I hate each other, and you befriended him first. I don't like it, but I can't exactly do anything about it."

"That is a fair opinion." Kesar frowned at this, the Great Wolf was being rather civil, which was nice in his opinion.

"Tell me, before Lorgar betrayed us, he met with you last. What happened?" At this, Kesar frowned but he answered nonetheless.

"He accused me of breaking the Imperial Truth because my homeworld has created an ideology called the Golden Path." Kesar was careful to label it an ideology instead of a religion since it did follow the Imperial Truth. "Lorgar was not pleased with this and was rather delusional about past events. Eventually, I pointed out his hypocrisy and he stormed off."

"So, you are the reason he betrayed us." Kesar stared directly at Leman, who merely stared impassively back. He was not pleased with this accusation and he gazed angrily at Leman for several seconds. The Wolf King of Fenris merely stared back, before raising an eyebrow. Eventually, Kesar broke the silence.

"Brother, that is not the case and you know it. My actions did not lead to his fall."

"I'm not blaming you, I'm merely saying you should have handled it better. I respect your skills at killing daemons, but you are naïve. I don't know what the two of you thought and spoke of, but the outcome was clearly poor, and I wish you had done better Brother." At this, Kesar calmed down somewhat, but he was still not pleased with Leman's words. Nevertheless, he would remain polite.

"Brother, I disagree with your interpretation, but since you have been civil and polite, what do you mean by naïve?"

"Your friendship with Xenos, encouraging Magnus, your compliance rate, your approach to compliance, actions with Lorgar, …"

"Alright stop." Kesar was not happy at Leman just spewing his complaints about his strategic goals and actions. "It was easier to bring the Ruoult under our thumb than it was to kill them. My friendship with Magnus is quite frankly not your problem. I have met him once and only correspond with him. The Thousand Sons have proved immensely useful thus far. My compliance rate is because I prefer to make my domain stable sooner, and for that diplomacy has worked wonderfully. And finally, my action with Lorgar, as you put it, did not lead to him falling. He decided that my actions were unforgivable, despite those actions being not my own."

At this, Leman gave a lupine grin. "Well, at least you have guts. But I completely disagree with your explanation. Magnus is reckless. There's a reason why our father didn't tell him about this. Unlike me, he wouldn't listen when told these things were dangerous. He would lie, and just research them. How do you think that would end?" As Kesar moved to respond, Leman cut him off. "Magnus does not understand that there is a time to stop researching. All you have done with him is encourage him and validate his short-sighted beliefs. Then, there is your entire approach to the Crusade." At this, Leman stepped back before continuing. "Diplomacy is flawed. We constantly see nightmarish worlds where people suffer. By using it, you are slowed down, and people on these nightmarish worlds cry out for assistance that they will not get in time. It is naïve and harms humanity."

Kesar paused for a moment to think. The Wolf King did have some valid points, but there were certainly holes in his argument. "Brother, you say this, but your argument is flawed. Has Magnus done anything that has ended poorly thus far?" Leman started to speak, but Kesar steamrolled through it. "No, and our father has not deemed him dangerous so clearly he is not as bad as you make him out to be. Additionally, he has been working to create wards that specifically block daemons. Take the runes I have made. They are not dangerous. Instead, they work to make killing the neverborn easier. And Magnus is making a version which works to similar effect but alongside different principles. The idea that he is dangerous is short-sighted and proves that you are the naïve one here. The warp is dangerous, yet, I am not arguing against that. What I am arguing for is that it is a tool. Like fire, it can burn you, but like fire, it can save your life on a cold night. Simply ignoring the warp and not researching it is the pinnacle of naivety and you should be ashamed."

"Now hold on … " As Leman tried to get a word in, Kesar held up a hand.

"Let me finish Leman. Then there is your idea of diplomacy. Is it slow? Yes, it is. Does it make my domain more stable? Yes, it does. When your worlds rebel, mine will not. Then, I will catch up in terms of compliance rates. Not every world that says no deserves to be conquered. Some are simply scared from the terrors of the galaxy, others may simply have fears of psykers and will be hesitant to join one where the ruler is a psyker. Kill on sight is inefficient. Diplomacy saves technology, infrastructure, information, and brings in worlds that are immediately useful to the Imperium. War devastates planets and makes them useless to us. You claim I am close-minded and naïve, yet the truth is, your ideas are flawed, your preconceived notions are in desperate need of updating, and you clearly do not understand the uses the warp brings. You are a child, scared and stubborn, refusing to acknowledge that you can be wrong."

During this, Kesar had grown angry with Leman. His brother had attacked his methods and blamed him for Lorgar's fall. As he waited for Leman to respond, he was pleased to see that Leman had a shocked look on his face. "Well, I can see why you are called Daemonsbane." Sadly, Leman swiftly recovered and slowly clapped. "How long did you rehearse that for? Still, you got guts. Even if I think you're an idiot, at least you can back it up. If you ever want a spar, feel free to meet. I do want to kick your ass. Don't disappoint."

"Leman, I look forward to winning that duel." At Kesar's response, Leman's grin just grew wider. With that, the two Primarchs separated. They weren't friends, and they both disliked each other immensely, but they both knew the other was skilled.

As Kesar walked over to talk to Malcador and Alpharius, he thought of what he would do with the Crusade

AN: So, now planets have threat levels. The scale ranges from easy, medium, hard, extreme, and maximus. Then, I generated a planet that literally had a 0.001% chance of being worse. So, you get a new threat level. Threat Level: Maximus Extremus represents an extremely dangerous world that should likely be exterminated if it wasn't so hard to get to.

[] Lathe III is a world where infrastructure can clearly be seen from orbit that is well maintained. Why is it that no movement can be seen on the planet? When the initial team went down on the world to check, they disappeared, despite their being orbital surveillance. This has continued, so something is clearly wrong. More teams have been sent, and none have returned, although a single transmission was made screaming of how the world itself turned against them. Threat Level: Maximus
[] Hades II – A forge world that worships a Man of Iron, the hereteks here have stirred the Mechanicus into a frenzy. So far, the stalemate has lasted as the Imperium has been unable to breach the system's defenses. Hopefully, with the support of an Astartes Legion, the hereteks can be purged. In the past year, the Mechanicus has made some progress against the hereteks, but they are requesting assistance. Threat Level: Easy
[] Liekana IV – A Death World home to 500 million people, this world boasts an incredibly hostile biosphere with extreme temperatures. The main issue on this world is the sudden temperature swings that can roast or freeze a human in minutes. Nevertheless, the world is demanding protection from something. Transmissions have since ceased. Threat Level: Extreme
[] Sacramentum I – This world has no infrastructure, no governing body, and no food production of note. How then is it home to 3 billion people? The Imperial Army that was assigned to this location has reported that they have found a remarkable food source that could dramatically boost Agri world production and request that a Primarch arrive, so they can demonstrate. Threat Level: Maximus "Brother, my agents have been subverted. Be extraordinarily cautious."
[] Rekti II – The Imperium vessels that arrived here found a world that was ruled by two alpha class psykers. The two are extremely skilled with their abilities and have access to fanatical soldiers. These soldiers are unusually skilled and in high numbers. This will not be an easy world to take. Threat Level: High
[] Unknown System – The Imperial scouting fleet was destroyed before it could send any warnings. Threat Level: Maximus Extremus
[] Valhalla IV – Kesar's homeworld. While Konrad has stated that Lorgar won't attack here, it is still possible that a portion of the Word Bearers would. As such, defending forces may be needed. Threat Level: Easy
[] Colchis – Lorgar's homeworld. The Space Wolves are headed here directly to ensure that the world is compliant, and they may need support. However, they should be enough to handle it. Threat Level: Easy
[] Lorgar's Domain – The Lion has begun to invade Lorgar's domain. So far, all of the worlds have remained compliant, but due to the large area, it will take him a few years to deal with it. Threat Level: Easy
[] Pursue Lorgar – Lorgar needs to be brought to justice. Heading towards the Eye of Terror is a poor idea, but it may prove useful. Threat Level: Variable

Lion Relation: 84 + 15 (Omake) + 20 (Hates Lorgar) + 10 (Oriacarius) = 129
Leman Relation: 5 + 20 (Respect) – 10 (Opinion) = 15
Alpharius: 96 + ?? = ???
Konrad: 66 + 20 (Visions) + 30 (???) – 30 (Konrad) = 86
Malcador: 87 + 10 (Omake) + 20 (Relationship) + 20 (Anti-Daemon Specialization) = 137
Emperor: 75 + ?? = ???

Crime and Punishment: A Valhallan Prospective Part One
Crime and Punishment: A Valhallan Prospective Part One
Crimes of passion and crimes motivated by greed remain common in Valhalla even under Primarch's rule. Valhallan education includes testing to identify serious psychological problems, though, and the collection of laws known as the Clear Glass Accord has largely eliminated serious poverty. As a result, the crime rate is far lower than it would be otherwise. Also, the advanced forensic methods used by Valhallan peacekeeping forces mean that very few murders or other serious crimes remain unsolved. Nevertheless, crime happens and organized criminal gangs thrive. The existence of organized crime under the 11th Legion's careful administration seems to be a bit of a paradox, and many Humans wonder how criminals who regularly engage in blackmail, extortion, smuggling, theft and even assassination can thrive in Valhalla's well-regulated cities and in other Planets which fall under Primarchs Domain.

The answer is both complex and troubling. It comes down in part to the fact that Primarch permits it to exist. Eternal Wardens understand that some Humans fit poorly into the society they have created. While they can use advanced educational techniques to attempt to reform many potentially problematic individuals, some problems are too subtle or widespread to be completely corrected. As a result, They use organized crime as a social safety value. While petty crime and criminals who have no connection to organized crime obviously exist, peacekeeping forces focus special effort on catching overly bold freelance criminals who lack ties to organized crime.

They adopted this policy because the leaders of the various criminal gangs help to restrain the activities of the criminals working for them. Gang leaders are usually well aware that any crimes that are too serious will swiftly bring the wrath of the Legion down upon their entire organization. Gangs also dislike competition from freelance criminals and criminal activities that are extreme enough to cause the peacekeeping forces to step in.

As a result, much crime in Primarchs Domain is organized into gangs that his agents can more easily infiltrate and observe, and where the Legion can intervene if the gang's activities become too serious or threatening. Most criminal gangs understand that they will be destroyed if they target the Legion or any of their servants, or if they engage in extreme activities such as arson, destruction of essential services, mass murder, inciting riots, encouraging forbidden heresies or openly opposing the Imperium.

Observant gang leaders have also noticed that gangs that grow too large are either eliminated or have sufficient of their number arrested that they shrink to a more appropriate size. As a result, gangs never control criminal operations in more than one city, and large cities typically have multiple criminal gangs. In addition, criminal gangs are all expected to make regular payoffs to the local peacekeepers. While Humans might consider this practice to be bribery, the Agents of the Malcador who oversee the management of the gangs consider it an excellent method of taxing crime and obtaining funds to reimburse important businesses that have been hard hit by crime.

As long as they follow at least these general rules, criminals can thrive in Valhalla's cities. Their world, however, is separated from the lives of most mortals. Ordinary citizens who wish to purchase illegal intoxicants, smuggled goods or low-cost stolen goods, as well as those who wish to hire thieves or find a buyer for blackmail information, have a significant chance of encountering peacekeepers working undercover. When a citizen seeking to make contact with criminals approach such an official, the official can do anything from arresting him to lecturing the citizen on the error of his ways and issuing a report that he should be watched more carefully. Such offenders are typically punished by fines or minor mental correction.

Citizens who are sufficiently clever and observant can usually manage to find actual criminal gangs, though, as can individuals who have some connection to the criminal underworld. The most widespread services offered by criminal gangs are access to various stolen or pilfered goods, especially restricted or luxury items. In addition, the gangs offer access to normally illegal intoxicants or entertainment. Criminal gangs also engage in assassination, but only as long as the target is not an employee, officials of Imperium. Valhallan Government also carefully investigates the murder of anyone who is not either a criminal or one with close ties to criminals. Therefore, murdering honest civilians is riskier for assassins. Threatening or assaulting ordinary citizens is permitted, though, long as it is not too common.

In addition to providing an outlet for rebels, dissidents and overly ambitious Human who can be monitored and controlled, criminal gangs are allowed to exist because they can also serve as discreet and typically unknowing agents for Malcador and Alpha Legion. Many of Malcador's Agents either recruit the services of criminal gangs through a maze of intermediaries or forcefully suborn the will of the gangs' leaders. Both methods allow an Agent to avoid any official notice of his/her actions while still acquiring the services of criminals willing to perform various illegal services for Imperium.

While no criminal gang is willing to do more than discreetly spy on an individual or local government offices, every criminal gang refuse to attack or threaten a Primarchs mortal allies or disrupt businesses in which the Primarch has an interest or that indirectly affect his business interests. Often, the Agent who hired or suborned the criminal gang uses his/her connections to keep anyone from determining the identity of those responsible for these crimes. 11th Primarch accepts this practice because it allows Alpha Legion or Malcador's Agents to work out internal issues without resorting to more overt actions that might openly disrupt the government or commerce.
