Unknown Invasion Part Two: A Second Wave
Unknown Invasion Part Two: A Second Wave

After two days you had loaded your available fleet with some of the most deadly forces on Avernus and set out for Alfheim. Six days into your travels you receive word that another fleet has been detected, this one fifteen days away from Avernus. At this point you have to make the decision on whether to send back some of your fleet to Avernus, possible including yourself or whether to trust the forces left behind to defend Avernus.

[X] Send no one back

I trust in the bastion we've built and the people we've trained.

I think we should return ourselves back, plus whatever forces are on our ship (possibly transferring some people and stuff onto and out of other ships by shuttle in the void).

Planetary governor's first responsibility is the safety of their world. It might cause a morale hit if we're seen to be apparently abandoning the planet. Alfheim has the Guard plus lots of other reinforcements inbound and thousands of regiments there already.

Need I remind anyone that we took all our warp-capable battle-ships with us? The home front is a little bit more exposed than it is normally.

@durin , do we know relative size estimates of the fleets?

I'm a bit worried about the Well of Urd with all the warp-capable combatants out of the system. Our navy is not up to the standards of the army.
Well everything was moved away from Avernus orbit to encourage people attacking it directly avoiding the stuff in space so they should be fine since a undefended planet would be a nicer target.

Also there are heavy space defenses, the bunch of defense monitors, navy, starbase, and the Well itself providing a good defense for space assets.

The General we should have going to Alfheim would be the PDF general in charge of the armor normally since we have lots of armor going over there.

Im a bit worried that the Well of Urd might get damaged. Strictly speaking, none of our stuff is irreplaceable (assuming no named char death) except that. Its extremely unlikely that the invasion force would be able to beat our defenses entirely, but if the Well gets damaged, that would suck big time. Maybe consider moving back some void assets?

you can send 2 or 3 generals easily, given that 20% of your army is going sending multiple generals wouldbe a good idea
Pask should go as his entire command is there

[X]send the Generals on with only the troop transports and escorts and return to Avernus with the rest of the navy and governors guard

Frankly, Alfheim is not the strategically critical location it used to be. With Midgard's increasing efforts towards self-reliance, they now only provide half of it's food, and supply nothing to everyone else (apart from a few exotic materials). The planet could stand to lose over 76% of productive capacity and still supply the food requirement without ever dipping into it's stores, which are substantial.

It isn't a useless planet, but it wouldn't be a total catastrophe if it had a major multi-year war on its surface, given that Midgard has stores that can last about a decade.

A slightly easier war on Alfheim is not worth, say, losing the Well.

Who will we take with us and who should we leave behind to defend?
Our generals.
Avernus Military: Not including Trust figures. Counting Leopold as he currently is.
General Drago: +49, 4.5 (!) dump stats. Tied 2nd Martial, 5th Combat
Jarran Pask: +93, no dump stat. Tied 3rd Martial, 3rd Admin, Tied 5th Learning, Tied 4th Piety, 5th Diplomacy.
He's rapidly catching up to where Leopold was in his prime.
Antoninus Bergen: +36, 4 dump stats.
He's a chair warmer for Fred and/or Draco.
Samanta Khol: +64, 2 dump stats. 3rd Martial, Tied 5th Piety, Worst Diplomacy.
A younger and gender flipped Drago. With a better Admin, Learning, and Piety.
Irwin Volkov: +29, 3.5 dump stats.
Technically our weakest, but only off the battlefield.
Rebecca Agani: +54, 1 dump stats.
She can usually use her Intrigue in place of her Martial
Donato Durant: +48, 2.5 dump stats. Tied 5th Learning.
Our actual weakest link. He has the worst (non Ridcully) Admin on Avernus.
Leopold Schwarz: +55 currently, +90 in his prime, no dump stat. Tied 2rd Martial.
Clear 2nd without Pask. We know just what a monster he is.
Martin Nardoo: +60, 2 dump stats.
Glory whore who'd almost certainly going to get himself killed sometime this century.
Amos Parnell: +48, 3.5 dump stats. 4th Learning.
Actually uses that Learning as a Naval Officer.

Parnell is our naval general. He is needed to coordinate our ships with the Trust command.
Pask is in charge of our Helltooper. Back home he would not have any.
Agni is our weakest link back home.
Schwarz would be great to command our armor and mechanized infantry (He is in charge of Elysium where they regulary clash with Thundabeast and co) but I prefer him back home to hold the fort down.

Edit: Changed

[X]Return everyone and everything back.

It's surely not unreasonable that planets under heavy attack themselves can't send aid to planets that are also under attack?

I'm not sure how we're going to return home without taking at least one warp-capable ship with us.

[X] Send one escort and yourself with the Goveners Own back.

Avernus is a fortress and resistant to orbital strikes, we should be able to hold out for the time it takes for the Trust to win at Alfhiem. It is better to concentrate all available warships at Alfhiem to smash the enemy there than to split up and risk defeat in detail.

And as I notice we should take the Groverners Own with us.
If push comme to shove we can take an escort or simmilar.

Ah, the ol' switcheroonie. But we're definitely ready to defend ourselves and another world, and we're much stronger than we were when we flattened the Necrons.

We should send the entire air force back, that's our main weakness back home as well as the thing least useful to send as help because Vanaheim has a far better air force and shouldn't arrive later than our force this time.
