The Third Daemonic Incursion Part Six: Victory
The Third Daemonic Incursion Part Six: Victory
T=15:03:00-15:05:00

While you gathered a collection of Avernus' greatest heroes, or at least those that were combat ready, in front of the vault the ancient Threnody Dragon Parathunisxaris moved to engage the 1st Circle Archangyl. The conflict between the Threnody Dragon in its last years while empowered by the Bracers of Black Crystal and an Archangyl of the 1st Circle, one of the Abominations ultimate champions lasts mere minutes and utterly wrecks an entire district. In the end the Dragon falls, with even a timely bite from a Death's Head Blink Spider causing a key distraction. The five and a half minutes that the fight lasts for however is enough for the Ancient One to almost catch up, and the slight delay that your regulars and handful of elites provide is enough to allow the Ancient One and Areatha to catch up seven minutes travel from the vault. The following fight takes the better part of an hour, wrecks several districts and kills tens of millions of men as collateral damage but results in the True Death of the 1st Circle Archangyl. While the Archangyl was being calmly taken to pieces by the Ancient One the Lizardmen arrived to join the battle, marching from the south in organised cohorts under the protection of countless wards of incredible power. This is the first time you have seen the Lizardmen fight on this scale, and they demonstrate that despite how primitive they seem that they are every bit as deadly as the Eldar, ripping apart the Angyls at close range, searing them with psychic attacks at range and crushing entire formations under the feet of they monstrous creatures. Your forces sally to create a path for the Lizardmen to reach Dis under the cover of your airforce and the dragons, allowing the Lizardmen to easily reach and reinforce the walls of Dis. This was aided both by the continued efforts of the wildlife of Avernus and by the arrival of a group of red clad Astartes who existed the Warp Gate that was providing the Angyls with a steady stream of reinforcements and promptly destroyed it. While most of the Astartes fell in battle a dozen or so linked up with the Lizardmen and made it to your lines. As your walls started to be reinforced by Lizardmen the Archangyl of the 1st Circle was slain, and the number of Angyls started to drop as the skies slowly returned to normal and the incursion came to an end.

Now all that remains is to count the cost and deal with the coming surge of cults.

Important detail: Offer the Lizardmen free drinks etc for showing up. I'm sure Lin can thank them properly in such a way that the peace between them is cemented further. Just be careful that it doesn't give any lingering assassins an opening.

Well that was thoroughly anticlimactic. Considering how the Ancient One apparently cuts through First Circle daemons like they're scrubs why exactly did he go to the North Pole in the first place instead of just hanging around where they were going to be heading?

We lost something like 10% of Avernus' population and the vast majority of the forces that would normally deal with cultists and rogue psykers. While the incursion was focused enough that few hives will face much of an uptick in cultists, I expect it like we lose another 10-20% of the population just because Dis has such a huge portion of the population. Plus I expect Alphas are probably going to be at destroy entire hive levels again for a while because our anti-psyker forces are so depleted.

Could you please stop?

While yeah losing that many force will hurt we can requisition assistance from the Trust to help with the cultist problem while we recover, we can also try and see if the Saurus might be interested in assisting our psyker forces.

At the end of the day that will just slow us down, population recovers and so do troop numbers, heroes on the other hand do not regenerate at anything like the same rate and give that we did not lose any we might even see a meaningful improvement in effectiveness

@inverted_helix an intolerably large amount of your posts are complaint posts. It is irritating and demoralising to the thread. Please restrain yourself in this regard and aim to make complaints a minority of your posts.

I am quite curious about those astartes......somebody link me the omake please?

I am also quite curious as to if we will get to keep the bracers. technically we didn't duel the dragon who had them but....?

finnally, while I am kinda sad that we coulden't get any epic duels that result in trancendent rolls for any heros.... I think I'm just happy we diden't even have to risk the heros.

Does that mean we have another chapter now? That would be absolutely awesome. Especially since they are cured sons of Sanguinus. They could help our allies, if they were to rebuild. We should either give them a new planet or maybe even offer them to recruit on our own? I dunno how the planet feels about that, so I'd rather have them settled in one of the new subsectors.

As for the Varangian Guard, when can they create a new successor, or when do we have enough Geneseed to create one?

Well cured is a bit of an overly positive way of seeing it.

Is creating successor chapters a thing that we can be done? Because if so, that sounds really totally awesome.

Because if we had gotten a slightly-less unlucky roll we would have headed off the invasion before it ever really got off the ground with minimal losses (for a demonic incursion). It was a gamble that did not work out.

Well, it's what basically everyone did it the old Imperium by tithing their geneseed partially. It's how each Founding gained more Space Marines.

Instead they're the second most doomed chapter.
To be fair, you are right. They do have a have a rather high attrition rate. But the Veterans that remain are rather hard to kill, all things considered.

Otherwise I don't really know what you mean with the 'most doomed' chapter? The Varangian Guard didn't really have more Space Marines than them.
