Astartes are turned out by the thousands with equipment that can just be built in a mid level forge. They're the most cost efficient and highest production rate super-elite. That makes them the most expendable.
I'll note that Astartes simply wouldn't be very effective at stopping 1st Circle. Remember how Jane went through Astartes so fast she hit her preset kill limit? 1st Circle is a hundred Janes powerwise, and has a much higher kill limit on the account of being Apex psyker. A company of Astartes against it would die a millisecond slower than a Helguard Battalion. Thus, it's just not very worth it to send them there to die.

"preset kill limit"? I have not heard of this before.

also, when was jane fighting astartes? are you talking about the chaos-khorn astartes way-back? cas that was a very long time ago and durin has changed ALOT since then. I recall in fact, reading about how that very battle caused durin to change the way astartes fight mechnanicaly because they got beat too easy (or something like that).

War on Two Fronts.

[X] Plan YOU SHALL NOT PASS! *dramatic staff slam*

Best option I can see. Buying two minutes will cost us a good number of heros if we put them on the frontline, and this should reduce losses enough to be negligible compared to the penalties we already face.

No it was during the last abomination invasion during the war on two fronts where mechanics was brought up in between the chapters

Your Saint is in another castle
"Your Saint--

The defenders lay dead and dying, broken and shattered before Occandereal's might. Calling on his might again, he forced it upon the wards as they trembled before him. Inside the runes energized and shattered before the the Archangyl. Then he forced his way in, cutting though the mundane walls and doors the Saint hid himself in. More wards he shattered, pesky heroes he slaughtered with a swing of his blade until he found his prize at last-
There was the laughter of a laughing god.
-wait.

Wait.
The victory howls of a Lion that existed and did not.
No.

No.
The sound of a joke reaching it's end.
It was a puppet.

It was holding a sign.
Colored by laughing god's laughter.
The words were clear.

--is in another castle"

what does "AN" mean btw?

I do wonder how much moral and loyalty will be lost once it is known that while they were being slaughtered the soldier's leaders were cowering at the vault heh one things for sure the idolisation that avernites have of Rotbart and the other heroes will be over.

given that several of said leaders were sallying out of the city earlier on not any
as for Rotbart he is a general and Avernites are soldiers, they understand generals keeping off the front lines

[X] Plan YOU SHALL NOT PASS! *dramatic staff slam*

Wont completely wipe out our remaining elites and keeps our hero's alive to help in the inevitable cult issues we are going to have from this incursion.

Dear Emperor the cult issues are going to be a pain in the arse to deal with.

Can you stop sulking about us not throwing hero units into certain death for no gain? Maybe you don't care about them but others do.

[X] Plan YOU SHALL NOT PASS! *dramatic staff slam*
-[X] Ask the Ancient Dragon to intercept the First
-[X] Support with a mixture of regular and elites
-[X] Have Heroes back at the vault as a last line of defence.
