Well then, when I make a plan it'll include studying these buggers, because these are a possible problem just like blink spiders.

When does the vote open, by the by?

convincing them to become a successor chapter may be possible, though only if you can confirm that the main chapter lives

On this matter, I would simply tell them that our intel captured from the Dark Eldar indicates that Ultramar was noted as being one of the holdouts noted as surviving and likely to continue to do so, and let them make the decision. We don't need to force them to rebrand if they don't want to.

I honestly hope you are joking the space Marines are far too useful to give up and yes certain things or concetions may be given so that they may work with us (like the quartoks) the positives outway the negatives

That aside I am more interested in what is happening outside the trust all things considered

I am joking.

I do really feel that bringing Space Marines into the Imperial Trust undermines and cheapens the themes of this quest, but I don't feel anywhere nearly as strongly about it as I pretend to.

Not saying you're wrong, but how does it cheapen the themes? As far as I can tell the theme of the quest so far just amounts to finding lost tech, not dying to the planet, or invasions and minor politics. The Space Marines don't really change any of that.

The theme of the Imperial Trust is that it's a (reformed) microcosm of the old Imperium that strives to survive through the Second Age of Strife. In that the Space Marines fit perfectly.

They do add politics though....

Completely agree with the above comments. The fact that we are two deaths from anarchy on Avernus is a very bad thin. Seriously I understand love but come on, he has a duty to the people of Avernus to make sure that someone will take over when he is either killed or dies of old age.

That's just wrong. We are not two deaths away from anarchy. Not even ten. We have a proper chain of command and enough officers and admins to take over if necessary.
There are some element of feudalism but it's not nearly that bad.

this, there is an extended chain of command that will require several dozen deaths before you start having issues

The theme of baseline humans being competent on their own. It's why I got into this quest.

I'm also sad that Durin chose the Ultramarines and not that fun marine chapter that someone rolled up during the last ork invasion. They sounded like they'd add something to the story even while detracting in other ways...

that chapter is a local power a few sectors away, you will be dealing with them

Also did anyone pick up on the named marines names.

Gaius Julius "invictus"= Gaius Julius Caesar

Horatius The Steadfast=Horatius Cocles

You mean the chapter that was created with random rolls, or the chapter these ultramarines came from?
I think he's refering to the blood dragon's.

The Ultramarines are a long way away.

@durin how long would it take to travel to and from their home world, assuming relatively calm Warp conditions?
We must ask the Ultramarines for that.

I was and I wondered when someone would mention that (as a note those two are the only survivors of the 2nds original officers)

2 officers that old with 13 marines as back up an 15 marines to mold now.

Chapters have been built with far less experienced hands.

Lets just hope the names of those characters don't continue here.
