that is acceptable but not necessarily worthwhile, it is highly unlikely that you will encounter any large group of Dark Eldar in the future and tailoring your armour to work against a certain type of weapon often makes it weaker against other weapons

Mostly I was thinking making an anti DE variant rather than retooling the standard issue armor. I am really hoping to take lighter casualties the next time we have to fight them.

There's probably not going to be a next time. He just said in his response that we are very unlikely to fight DE again, so why are you still worried about lowering our casualties against DE in the future?

paranoia mostly, also a suspicion that it might pay off rather well. Dark eldar weapons are rather exoctic, so something designed to defeat whatever the hell there trying to do rather than standard heat or kinetic weapons might be a good deal more effective.

It's honestly not worth the trouble. In the year that it would take to do this research, we could be spending the time on other projects that are useful on enemies besides the Dark Eldar as well as them. The jetbikes, the adamantine forge, and the superheavy transport are all examples of projects that would take only a year to complete and aren't specialised towards anti-DE.

Probably not though, because whatever we have to do to our armor to make it better against their specific kind of exotic damage means that the armor is going to be worse against more common types of damage, like heat or kinetic impacts, all of which we face on a much more frequent basis.

Again, as GM said, tailoring our armor to fight an enemy and tech base we are unlikely to see again, to the detriment of our armor's capability against the kind of stuff we fight much more frequently (Orks, wildlife, chaos)? It's not worth the cost in actions and resources, or the cost in lives against our more common foes.

well if dark eldar pirates were going to be a thing developing a variant armor for marines guarding ships moving through there hunting grounds might be useful. But with them being kicked out of the webway, and the local infestation wiped out we probably won't be seeing them enough to make developing a specialized loadout for them worthwhile.

key word is our. as in Avernite PDF.
Yes...?

Anyways:

"Timeless army of midgard! You have done your ancestors proud! From these fortifications you held off a massive push by the eilte slave soldiers of the Dark Eldar, Killing two of them for every man of ours that fell!" *Fsshlecrk*

"General, Incoming Vox from Governer Rotbart! - " "- Just calling to inform you general, on our progress. We sent our PDF against the Enemy fortifications, and managed a 1 to 4 kill ratio against their Elite slave soldiers. That is, 1 PDF trooper for four slaves. Rotbart out."

"..."

"Emperor Damn it! Those avernites are always trying to one-up us!"

The source of unhappiness towards the Avernites.

I'm anticipating the answer to be "probably not", but any chance of being able to talk the remaining slaves into laying down their arms and surrendering?

[X] Split fire between two targets.- This will allow your artillery to target multiple areas while still having a significant impact.
[X] Target the keep.- This will make the keep easier to take when the time comes but will not have any effect on the current fight and will take time or concentration of fire to cause major damage. This option would be best if you are planning to quickly push though the city and attack the keep.
[X] Targets designated by ground forces.- This will allow the artillery to provide a major advantage to your forces in the city and would be a major advantage for them. This option would be best if you are trying to quickly seize the inner city.
[X] Attack aggressively- You could order your forces to be aggressive and focus on taking ground quickly. This will allow you to kill more foes and seize more ground but at the cost of significantly higher casualties and a worse kill to loss ratio. - At this speed your would be able to take the inner city in around ten hours.
[X] Begin to fortify three hours before dark- This will reduce the amount of territory that you take by a moderate amount but will allow your forces to erect basic fortifications at their positions and clear killing fields before dark making it even harder for the Dark Eldar night forces.

I'm worried that the Dark Eldar have something up there sleeve, my bet is on those black hole generators they had in orbit. The dark eldar are spiteful a gigantic suicide bomb wouldn't surprise me.

[X] Concentrate fire on one target.- This will allow your artillery to have a major impact on the selected target at the expense of have no effect on the other targets.
-[X] For one day until dark (during prep time).
--[X] Target the city in general.- Firing into the city with an aim to ruin as much of it as possible would most likely kill a decent number of slave-soldiers and some Dark Eldar as well as reducing the benefit of the Dark Eldar's knowledge of the city. This option would be best if you are planning to take your time in seizing the inner city.

[X] Continue to attack until dark- This is the most aggressive option and will allow you to secure a large amount of territory but you will have trouble securing it.

[X] Launch one full battery of deathstrikes at the keep before the attack.
[X] Black Irons are assigned to lead an attack on the keep as soon as a breach in the keep defenses occur and a path to those breaches are open.

I got a bad feeling about these Dark Eldar retreating. I think something bad is going to happen soon and it's time to switch from cautious to aggressive.

Aggressive plus attacking until dark should allow us to capture the inner city in one day, and hopefully breech the keep.

I'm sorry if I missed it, but has @durin said what species the slaves are? Are they mostly human, or a mix of random xenos, or orks?

[X] Elder Haman
