As QM it is perfectly reasonable precaution to warn players "beyond this point be dragons" lest rampant enthusiasm over a possibility, becomes a real danger that will break the narrative. Consider us so warned and don't worry we are not offended (at least -I- am not), I appreciate a clear demarcation of what levels of pew-pew are acceptable.
I'm less offended, and more concerned about not making Fyr worry too much. Especially since the build I'm currently working on has HtH 4 and Ran 3. It'd be Ran 4 if I could manage it. I feel like a build that just doesn't care what range it engages at has a much higher likelihood of being broken. I mean, I dumped Agi, so it has poor mobility, but still.

I'm giving Shogun a pass on the HtH rule because he was the first, and also I assume he is gonna get at least HtH 1 during his early Mark upgrades, if only to improve his gun-kata abilities and knife wielding defenses. The more "balanced" long range setup seems to suggest that Shogun would receive some form of melee proficiency.

Of course, I might be wrong, but HtH 1 requires very little investment to provide a clear benefit.

So...how do you feel about Roman legionnaires with electrified gunlances and nearly equivalent Ran and HtH? Because my next planned build is named Storm Legate for a reason.

Edit: The gunlance is replacing the left arm from the elbow down, BTW.

Nearly equal attack stats are fine; that's basically been KRAUN's design policy for the most part. The only inherent issue I can see is in having only one functional hand, but if that's part of the flavour I certainly won't argue, and it's not like one-handed jaegers don't exist (see; Titan whatever and post-refit Bracer Phoenix).

so i had a crazy idea that wouldn't get itself out of my head:

Stat priorities: AGI = HtH > Dex > Tou > Str >>> Ran

Gear breakdown:

Primary need is a need for feet and legs that kick well, considering that's the primary intended method of attack (plasma foot sheathe would be RAD AS HELL). Almost equally as necessary for the general aesthetic is a Dex-Agi converter, to allow BLAZON BUTTERFLY to have ridonkulous Charging, Dodging, and Parrying Abilities.

GAPAS is pretty much required. Hyper Vascular High Mobility Mods would probably be appreciated.

Might also carry some grenades as ranged options and a way to have presence after needing to be somewhere else yesterday; high Dex will also enable this style.

If a flight system can be enabled, HAHAHAHAHA yes please, gimme those sweet wings.

Honestly, I was thinking more externally forearm mounted, like a fangblade or something. That way, you still have a working hand on the limb, but can attack easily with the spear.

Approved, but its power move needs to be "sawblade pirouette" or something.

Also, finally, I've decided on how your nat 1 sight test is gonna go down (for the record, the seeing eye plane thing only just succeeded, so you've got rough guidance); because the sensors have just completely given up the ghost for the duration of your turn, Tacit is only able to make a normal Move Action, not run (since running without any firsthand sensory data of the outside world is a surefire way to trip over something). Maybe a bit harsh, but sometimes things don't work out the best, and I'm still trying to fix bits of this system as I go. And in any case, you stop being blind at the end of the turn, so...

As is, the hybrid's effectively mission-killed, if not permanently out of action. Their frame's been damaged, and most of the mechanisms and components carried in the lower section have just been eviscerated by Phenom's claws. Their contribution to the fight is done, that's for certain.

But then Jackal's visor re-ignites.

Metamorphic Escape System engaged!

A series of shaped charges detonate around the ryoushi's collar and shoulder blades, splitting the ceramic armour open along subtle seam-lines in the plates. Moments later, a blue-green cloud of smoky fluid sprays out in a smokescreen, temporarily blinding the Mark II-- before some long and twisting thing erupts out of Jackal's back, its four wings trailing behind it like a cape.

Jackal Indigo howls as it bursts free of the surface, the rudimentary air sacs acting as lungs sucking in a brand new breath of fresh air. Now reduced to a spine, power core, and conpod-- give or take a few tons of kaiju flesh holding everything together-- the Ryoushi now has but one purpose; escape.

And it doesn't plan to be the only one doing so.

"No buts except yours being shot out of the conpod! We're retreating, and you're not staying behind to get torn apart! Now move it!"

Twisting around, Core-Jackal beats its wings furiously, hurrying off over the waves as fast as it can. The hollow shell that once held it has gone completely limp in Phenom's grip, while the pilotless Elysium Praetor just sinks towards the bottom of the bay.

Neo-Seattle:
- Phenom Sable is 63 west of the city, semi-engaged with Jagdhund.
- Jagdhund is 63 west of the city, semi-engaged with Phenom Sable.
- Murasames and Moray 17 units behind Jagdhund's position (Moray at Depth 01), all Missile Boats 19 units behind.

Maybe it's the sudden rush of heat and radiation, or just bad luck, but it's at this point that the remnants of Tacit's primary sensors give up the ghost, and everything goes dark. Even the comms are a little muddled, the planes' voices indistinct and fuzzed by static. Noah catches something about 'taking off' and 'shed its plating', but nothing distinct. But whatever's happening, it can't be good.

Tacit turns, nearly falling over as it tries to dash back, before the rangers catch themselves and slow down. With no firsthand data at all of the outside world, running's a dangerous prospect-- though it may waste time, they're going to have to stay a little slower to keep safe, at least until their systems readjust.

Tacit Ronin is no longer blind!

Of course, it's then that its secondaries kick in, and visual contact is restored-- just as Regent Abyss throws its engines to full throttle. The black and maroon machine roars into the sky, rolling to the west as the trail of smoke curves behind it.

- Tacit Ronin is 32 units from the perimeter, 31 from Regent Abyss.
- Banshees are moving to North. 1 round until arrival.
- Meganeuras are moving to North. 3 rounds until arrival.
Blue Stars:
- West and South Groups defeated & captured!
- Regent Abyss is 53 units north of the city, 31 from Tacit Ronin, and has taken off, at Altitude 1 and moving west (17 units west of its takeoff point).

In summary; the attack has failed, the Blue Stars' units are all falling back (those who are still alive), and Neo-Seattle... um... now has a
completely functional Mark II Jaeger in its possession.

This is either a great idea, or it's gonna loop back to bite me in the butt later. Possibly both.

Jackal is 12 units away.
Jagdhund moves 7 units on a walk. The IE-10's Short Range is 6 units and its the Range Modifier for Short Distance on a Scatter gun is zero, so DC 5.

Jagdhund's attack with the IE-10 is a 1d10+6, but with a movement penalty that's a 1d10+3. But she still has the Emergency Overclock to bring that up to 1d10+5.

Alternatively, have Jagdhund stay put and fire now, from the IE-10 from the edge od its Medium Range. The attack would be 1d10+8 and the to-hit DC would be 7, which is slightly better, but leaves us in a worse position to try again next round.

We need exactly one point of damage to bring that SoB to the ground. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a plan.
 
Well, it's irritating that the pilots seem to be escaping, but at least we got the main prize for Seattle, right? Only slightly damaged, even; I think we just need to fix up (or replace) a hand and it'll be good to go.

Also kinda proud of the fact that my roll basically tore the enemy command unit in half and damn near let us capture them on the spot just from the feedback. Too bad their builds basically lolnope'd any possibility of capture with that ejection system...

I am kinda mad that we weren't even given a chance to demand Elysium's surrender... but we'll probably just have to live with it, since I doubt we can do anything about the pilots at this point.

Fyr made a mistake and now they're 14 units away, and Jackal also has enhanced reflexes so that's a 1d10+5 on DC 9. Still worth a shot in my opinion.

You also need to add that we want to use her Emergency Overclock perk to that plan, otherwise we're shooting 1d10+3.
 
Hey, you make it sound like we're a bunch of monsters, Fyr. I, for one, would've advocated something along the lines of "supervised mandatory retirement" for Elysium's pilots. Yes, I know, that sounds almost exactly like "house arrest" but... well, I was thinking putting them to work in a less stressful, less sensitive, and most of all less military career after (humane) interrogations. I mean, it's not like they seemed to be really cut out for fighting, and even if they could've gotten better without Jackal's pilots to harass them continuously I doubt anyone would trust them anywhere in the Shatterdome, let alone piloting their Jaeger.

Of course, Jackal's pilots would probably get executed as traitors to humanity, since they seemed to be in charge of this whole stunt, but you gotta expect pilot death when you send Jaegers into combat, right? It's just that most pilots die in their conpods, rather than by firing squad or whatever.

I think it was just that Jackal was bigger, stronger, and piloted by a couple of blatant lunatics. I mean, it's fairly common for someone as meek as Elysium's pilots seemed to be to comply when threatened by the local jock, right?

Well yeah, they're the ones I was talking about. If I let you guys capture and execute enemy pilots, how am I supposed to have the recurring antagonists for the Blue Stars' side plot? Think of the plot! I mean, Regent's pilots sure as hell aren't villain material!

Also, the whole pilot death thing? That's exactly the reason why both you and the Blue Stars have some pretty detailed conpod tech. The metal is replaceable-- the meat, a little less so.
