Hey, something feels jank with the skitter's name option. I didn't notice with the Clow Card Race, but the swath of votes concerning it have been wiped.

Voted closed, after an extremely closed vote The Big win.

Now that the vote is closed and I can't influence it anymore, I want to say that people seem to underestimate or misunderstand the Heartstone beast, particularly the legendary.
I agree that a fair number may be hard to translate into a realistic story and I can understand not knowing the keyword but some texts are pretty self-explanatory.
Here are a few examples of how I would interpret them:
Tyrantus: A giant dinosaur that cannot be targeted by spells, in Worm it means immunity to a lot of parahumans' power (those that only target one person at a time). Examples include Purity's laser, Behemoth lighting bolt, Scion golden beam. He's not unbeatable but for only 400 points it's a fair deal.
Gahz'rilla: An hydra nearly as big as Zilla that double in strength each time it takes any amount of damage. For 400 points!
King Mosh: This one got a keyword, battlecry, which means an effect that triggers when it's summoned. Translating it to the quest is perfectly straightforward and when he's summoned he destroy all enemies that have taken even just a little damage. And once he's there you still got a big T-rex. That's a strong effect for 400 points.

That said I'm not asking you to absolutely vote for an Heartstone beast if the occasion comes again but please don't hesitate to ask questions if we land on a category you don't know well.
By PM even if you don't want to post it here.

I'm not seeing any problem, Elytra win with five votes.

Next time we get Legendary Hearthstone Beast as an option, unless we get an even more overpowered summon as an option like The Time (time manipulation such as backwards time travel), The Erase (literately erases beings from existence), or something on the level of an Endbringer or higher in power level (like the Endbringers if we roll Worm), I'm voting for that to get King Mosh.

So does that mean the attacks simply don't work or they short out or get directionally altered mid flight? What about attacks aimed in that general direction or at the thing behind the creature?

Booya! Hear that ya fools! We could've had a creature that doubles in strength with ANY AMOUNT of damage! Could have taken a bobby pin and started stabbing! Barely a -1 to it's health yet x2 in strength! FOOLS!

With this we just need a way to do a little
damage to alot rather than alot to a few. That what I call a bullshit power.
Take this lesson to heart. Just because you have niether the imagination to translate a piece of fiction to another fiction nor the trust in the QM to keep delivering the quality work Zagan has done before doesn't mean he will meet your lowered expectations.

We are only hearing how they would have translated or possible abilities now when they no longer matter, no offense. Besides that, we don't lack for options and I probably would have still gone for magic despite hearing of those effects.

We didn't directly ask questions about how Heartstone creatures would translate, but we did bring up questions earlier. They were there in the open. We'll just have to do better next time.

In lighter news, do you guys think we'll hit chapter 70 before 100 pages or no?

It's the targeting aspect that would be blocked but it's a strong effect. Saying "I'm not targeting him, I'm targeting the ground behind him" wouldn't work either. But saying "I'm targeting the football field that happens to contain a dinosaur." Would work.

Booya! Hear that ya fools! We could've had a creature that doubles in strength with ANY AMOUNT of damage! Could have taken a bobby pin and started stabbing! Barely a -1 to it's health yet x2 in strength! FOOLS!
A bobby pin wouldn't be enough to pierce its skin, you'll need something like a big axe, something that draws blood at least.

Thank you for the compliment it's appreciated.

I didn't speak up during the voting because I as a QM I'm reluctant to influence the vote, but I would have answered questions with pleasure.

Just apply basic logic. Fictional creatures called Legendary are typically physically strong, powerful, sometimes with estoric abilities. Creatures called Exotic are typically are heavier on the rare and estoric capabilities side then powerful and strong bodies. And in a creature vs creature fighting game like Hearthstone? Combined with those 2 words and a high price range of 3&400? Fairly obvious whatever we could have gotten would have been worth it once you think about it.
Besides that, we don't lack for options and I probably would have still gone for magic despite hearing of those effects.
Fair enough.

A bobby pin wouldn't be enough to pierce its skin, you'll need something like a big axe, something that draws blood at least.
Doesn't need to be big if the point is to draw blood to count at damage.
A knitting needle? We could get something Tinkered up to create the most minimal damage.
Thank you for the compliment it's appreciated.
You're welcome!

For example, the Hearthstone creatures from what I understand, have a hit point pool that stays in the double digits, and depending on that abstraction by itself and how that is translated, we could have anything from a creature that is unaffected by injuries until it dies to a creature whom every hit is equally debilitating, from a mosquito bite to gods slap. And while I don't believe the QM will interpret HP like that if at all, it is still a noteworthy vagueness that effects the decision, thus causing hesitance in choosing it.

In contrast the Clowe cards immediate wiki page involves only a page of reading and you have a good idea of what your getting given the narrative description, and the fact that this is a story first.

-_-

No, that's the problem. We can't just apply basic logic because of the vagueness of the original cards. If people start making wild claims about the creatures which don't pan out then the original person looks foolish.
Don't need exact details to know those 2 options is gonna be worth it. Y'all could have just gone with the 400 option over the 300 one if you really needed that extra 100 points to reassure yourselves. It's not like the voters haven't been voting saving points for 400s and above because everybody knows the 400s and up are high tier. This round of voting it was almost like most if you all expected to get screwed? Hell, he said he was gonna make the exact creature multiple choice so you have options.

Chapter 69: Therapy Session
[X] Elytra
[X] Creature

Creature Roll: (740 points)
Roll1 D50=50 Various, D120=45
300 Epic Beast (Hearthstone), 400 Legendary Beast (Hearthstone), 100 Babel Fish (Hitchhikers' Guide) (Already gained)
Roll2 D50=37 Card Captor Sakura, D52=
200 The Arrow, 400 The Big, 100 The Bubbles
Sub vote result: The Big
Banked 340 Points

We gained a second Clow card, The Big. It's pretty costly in terms of magic, by default we can use it once per day if we use it at the maximal output. With our training with Libra and the addition of Blue Magic, we can do up to twice. And with enough time we can use Flare to replenish our reserve. It can be used on our creatures of course, on ourselves, on any living creatures, and on objects. We can also vary the factor of growth, minimum twice, and the duration. Smaller items are easier to affect than bigger ones.
We can also summon the avatar of The Big and have her use the power herself, it still drains our magic but it can allow for delayed or remote use.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When our nighttime patrol was finished I was glad to go back to the HQ, 3 am wasn't an hour for being awake. I made my way back to my office and quickly prepared for bed. I set my alarm clock for 9 and a half because my first therapy session began at 10. Normally I would fret in anticipation of it but I was too tired for that and I managed to fall asleep pretty fast.

The next morning I got up, if not refreshed, at least coherent. The fact that half my minds were still sleeping probably helped.

As I was walking toward the cafeteria the Menagerie activated. It was another card like The Libra. I immediately summoned it and all the knowledge about it flowed into my mind. It was The Big, the crystallized concept of growth but directed specifically to becoming physically bigger. It was very close to my enlarged power but broader. I could use it on nearly anything, people, animals, plants, and even objects. But it cost me magical energy while the power didn't.

There was another important factor, something that I've never seen from the Menagerie so far, the avatar of The Big looked like a human woman. That has unfortunate implications, even if I knew that she wasn't remotely human, other people may not be able to understand that. Fortunately, I didn't need to summon her avatar to use her power, it was in fact easier without it. At some point, I would need to summon her and see if we could talk but today I had other preoccupations. I put the card in the pocket already containing The Libra, maybe they'll keep each other company.

After a hearty breakfast, I found myself in front of the office assigned to Dr. Yamada, my new therapist. Even though I was the one that asked for it, I was still hesitating. I would need to talk out loud to a stranger about my encounter with Hookwolf, I would have to revive the incident, talk about my feelings.

After taking one more deep breath I knocked on the door.

"Coming!" A woman's voice said from inside. I heard the sound of chair legs moving across the ground and a few seconds later the door opened soundlessly.

In the doorway stood a plain-looking brunette woman. "Compendium, it's a pleasure to meet you." She moved to the side and gestured for me to enter.

"Thank you." I nod and walk past her, far less confidently than I would have liked.

I looked around, the office that was attributed to the doctor was standard but well furnished. The chairs were replaced by comfortable-looking couches, thankfully the classic therapist sofa wasn't present. And the desk was pushed to the side, presumably to remove a barrier between therapist and patient.

"Please take a seat, make yourself comfortable." I did so hesitantly, not saying anything, not knowing what to say.

She sat in front of me and took out a notepad. "So Compendium before we begin, how are you doing today? How do you feel about this session?"

"I'm a little nervous, never done anything like that before. But I'm sure that I need it."

She gave me a smile. "That's an excellent start, recognizing that you need help is vital for the process of healing to work."

She seemed to hesitate for a fraction of a second but continued. "As a first step, I like to build a report with my patient. My name is Jessica Yamada but you can call me Jessica if you're comfortable with it. I know that it can be a sensitive subject for capes, but would you be willing to give me your real name? I find it easier to build a rapport, that way. Of course like everything shared during our session it would remain confidential."

I need a moment to think about it, conferring with my multiple minds, and Jessica waits patiently. After some deliberation, I concluded that if I couldn't give my name to my own therapist, who was working in the same governmental organization as me, I was being paranoid beyond any reasonable notion.

I lift my hand to remove my hat and my mask. It did reveal Weaver nesting in my hair but Jessica didn't react. "Okay, I can understand that, my name is Alex Crewser."

"Thank you for your trust. It's an excellent first step. Now, Alex, what did you want to talk about?"

That question caught me off-guard. "I thought I was supposed to be talking about, well about what happened with Hookwolf. it's why I ask to see you."

"While yes, it's an important topic that we will need to talk about at some point it need not be the first one. We can start with more mundane things or other things that bother you before that."

Again I hesitated and conferred with my minds.

Didn't expect that./Yeah, but it makes sense./Do we really want to start with Hookwolf?/It would be nice if we could get rid of that topic as fast as possible./I don't think it's that easy./Starting with something else might not be a horrible idea./Yes, but what?

All my minds tried to think of something.

Perhaps, perhaps we could start with Dad?/Ha, hum, I don't know. Didn't we put that behind us?/I'm not sure it's something that can be left behind./We put it to the side and ignored it, mostly./Yeah let's do that, it's an important topic but less fresh than Hookwolf, might be easier./Not sure easier is the right word but okay.

For once I participated in my own internal debate and lost track of the real world, when I returned to myself Jessica was still waiting patiently.

"Sorry, I need time to think."

"That's perfectly normal, take all the time you need."

I took another breath."There's something I'll like to talk about. It's my father." I paused but continued before I could lose my nerve. "He died nearly three years ago. It wasn't easy for me and for mom."

"I'm listening, you can tell me whatever you want." She was looking at me with compassion.

Slowly I start talking.

"Dad was a delivery man working for a small society, moving all over town and the surrounding area. His salary wasn't great but it was enough for our family." I closed my eyes and started reminiscing. "His schedule was always pretty variable so he couldn't spend time with me that often. And even when he did he wasn't a very expressive person, still, we had fun together. His passion was model-making, particularly railway."

I opened my eyes and looked at the Doctor, she was listening patiently. "I didn't particularly like it myself, too meticulous for my taste. But I enjoyed spending time with him and I appreciate the results of his work."

I paused again and took a deep breath. "In May 2008, the 9 to be precise, he was driving his truck at 6 am. He was making a delivery to a restaurant. On the way, he was caught in the crossfire of a fight between the ABB and the Merchant. A bullet to the hearth, he died in less than a minute from what the police said."

I was crying but I didn't care and continued. "We never learned what this conflict was about, territory perhaps. For the gangs, it was just business as usual. For Mom and for me it was the end of the world."

"You have my condolences, Alex."

I nod in thanks but didn't respond, feeling the need to hold something I absently summon Ears, my bunny, in my lap. Stroking his soft fur helped keep me calm.

"Despite that, we persist, we were supported by some relatives, some friends, and even our neighbors. And at the time I had a girlfriend, Akemi, she was a big help for me personally."

"Thankfully Dad subscribed to life insurance so we weren't left without any means to live and mom managed to find a job. It was hard but we persisted. I don't know if I ever really grieved for dad, after his death they're was so many things to do, that I pushed my grief to the side."

Jessica spoke up. "It might be good if you tried to remember the good times. I'm here to listen if you want."

I look her in the eyes. "Yes, I'll like that."

The rest of the session was spent with me telling stories about my father, meaningless things mostly but it was liberating.

At the end of the hour, I felt better, we didn't talk at all about Hookwolf but that wasn't important.

When it was time to go I thanked Doctor Yamada profusely and I asked her a question.

"I have a favor to ask you, Doctor. I think that next time I'll be ready to talk about Hookwolf's death. And I'd like to bring my partner Aylamon. I know that a lot of people consider my partners to be just mindless projections but they do have feelings."

"That's perfectly alright Alex, I'm looking forward to meeting her."

I said my goodbyes and left. I didn't have much time before my meeting with the Wards.

A pretty emotional chapter that reveals some of the past of our character. I'm aware that it looks very classic. But I think that in the Wormverse having one or both parents dying from gang violence must be very common.

Just so I'm not accused of plagiarism, my therapy scene was heavily inspired by the one on the latest chapter of Borne of Caution. I highly recommend this fic.

For the roll, 580 points.

Seeing what we can get for power, have grabbed a lot of creatures, also in the range for the good chose a category options

Nice. Imagine if Armsmaster's nano-thorn weapon was made massive. Terrifying Nanomachine Chainsaw Grinder.

Sorry, I need time to think."
What a loaded term in light of the mental debate.

And at the time I had a girlfriend, Akemi, she was a big help for me personally."
Oh boy, what a new in-universe detail. Did Alec break up with her? Is she dead? In the gangs or ABB "worker"? How does Kelly factor into all this? Some or not at all? This could touch upon the coincidence of being classed as a Trump Nine.

Edit:
But I think that in the Wormverse having one or both parents dying from gang violence must be very common.
I want to countenance this statement since Brockton Bay is uniquely bad in comparison to other American cities. Most cities usually aren't this bad, or if they are it's due to unique circumstances, like an S9 visit. However, Earth Bet is a a spiraling death trap. Many nations teetering on collapse or poor places to be like China and the Yangban or Japan.
