I'm hoping she says yes, our kitty really is mesmerizing.
 
You know there is something to be said about us gaining so many small creatures right in a row. We have now hit a state where we have 30 creatures out of 20 max, and with 10 more we will be able to have two teams of 20 which we flip every other day. Sure some summons like the pets that won't fight may have a bit less combat value but they can still spy, or distract.

Chapter 40: Second Patrol

    Two good powers for nearly nothing and 300 points banked. And even better, we got rid of those pesky 50 points.

    In the end, I decided to ask the Heroine, she was my superior and would know better. I used my earpieces to call her.

    "Miss Militia this is Compendium, before we start our patrol could you pass by the training room I have a question."

    "Acknowledge Compendium, I'm on my way."

    While waiting for her, I called Olky. And he appeared instantly.

    "You called for Olky, Master?"

    "Yes, I did. Thank you for coming immediately. We will be departing for patrol in a few minutes. Have you thought about my proposition?"

    He nods and looks at me seriously. "Olky did think about it. Olky will follow the master on patrol and Olky will try to be master's bodyguard."

    "Thank you, Olky. I'm glad to hear that. Let me present you our partner for today."

    I gestured behind him, toward White, Buoy, and Rainbow. My wooly hippo was sleeping snuggle against my Lion/Tiger and my floating jellyfish was picking curiously at his tails.

    Just as I was about to make the presentation, I heard Olky muttering something.

    "Master, Olky thinks that this big cat is magical. It reminds Olky of his own magic."

    "That's good to know, but you don't recognize it?"

    "Olky is sorry but Olky only knows the most common magical creatures."
    "That's fine. At some point I may want to ask you questions about those common magical creatures, it may end up being useful." He looked relieved upon hearing that and I was a little confused as to why. Before I could inquire about it I spotted Miss Militia entering the room.

    She stopped short upon spotting Rainbow but quickly resumed her walk.

    "This is what you want to show me?"

    I nodded. "Yes, I was planning to take White and Buoy with us on patrol, while Olky here would follow along invisibly."

    The elf and the heroine exchange cordial greetings before she turns toward me.

    "Yes, that would be fine. But I suppose that you want to take the cat too?"

    "I'd like to, yes. I know that he's a pretty big creature but I think that allowing civilians to see it with me, would help familiarize them with such a sight. It might avoid some panic in the future."

    She didn't speak for a while, seemingly considering the idea.

    While she's thinking about that, let us report what we found about our eight new creatures. The first one is the most alien, purple skin, four small legs, a long neck, and a round head. I can feel that it has a little power but we'll need to test it. Oh and its weapon is a throwing dart./As for the other seven, they're a little different, we think that they all have something in common, being harmless. They don't even have any weapon shape. These creatures are four normal animals: a cat, a bunny, a small pig, and a weasel, and also three more exotic ones, a three-eyed crab, a snake with two ears made of leaves, and a small mass of cotton candy with four legs./Okay, thanks.

    I returned my focus on Miss Militia just as she was about to speak up. "Very well, you can bring it." I could see a spark of mischief in her eyes. "But how do you intend to bring him outside? He won't pass through the door."

    I mark a pause at that, it was an excellent point but before I could think of a response another voice spoke up.

    "Olky can take care of it, Master."

    With that declaration made, things move fast. In short order, we found ourselves on the other side of the light bridge. Miss Militia gave me an earbud for each of my partners.

    Olky disappeared from view quickly. Buoy wants to go swimming but I reign him in, perhaps later. White was by my side and Rainbow was sitting on his haunch behind us. People were already pointing at him and taking photos, thankfully my presence and that of Miss Militia appeared to reassure them, mostly hers.

    People asking for autographs came pretty fast, and also children wanting to admire my partners from up close. Miss Militia allowed it and we spent fifteen minutes doing an impromptu PR event. White insistent demand for petting from anyone coming close and Rainbow rumbling purr seems to be appreciated. Being shy, Buoy didn't let people get too close.

    While we were doing that, I felt two new powers manifesting, today was definitely fruitful on that score.

    Okay, so from what we can gather the first power appears to be about interacting with our creatures, but nothing clear we'll need to test it./The second power is easier to understand, it reinforced our Plants and Nightsky transformation powers. But we can't tell in what way.

    Once things calm down we start our patrol for real. Miss Militia and I were at the front, Buoy just next to me, White behind, and Rainbow halfway on the road. Thankfully passing cars were able to overtake him easily enough. All three of my partners were looking around curiously.

    While walking I questioned Miss Militia, asking what was the situation with our three prisoners. She said that they were all refusing to talk, besides Alabaster who was hurling insults my way and swearing vengeance. He didn't seem to appreciate the way that Scalpa handles him.

    We didn't see any reaction from the Empire for now, but the intel department was sure that they were preparing something. Obviously, we didn't discuss any specific plan for transporting our prisoner in the middle of the street but I knew that various options were being discussed by the higher-ups. None of them were destined to the Birdcage, but a normal high-security prison.

    Transportation was always the weak point. I wondered if I would be called to defend those. I was still very inexperienced and I got lucky during our fight but I was a huge force multiplier.

    Thinking of this morning I ask myself if Olky could simply teleport them directly to prison or to another PRT branch, like Boston. Of course, we would need to go there normally first but it was an interesting possibility. As long as the law allows it, I knew that a number of weird limits on the way power could be used.

    I was pulled from my thoughts by two of my mind.

    There's a commotion./Something is happening.

    Well at least we got 2 lesser powers out of the way even if the three we want the most still elude us. Trying to nail the three powers and this way we at least filter some out.

    It's unlikely, our kitty comes from Chinese mythology and even then it's not prominent at all.

    I don't think we're ready for a lung encounter at all but it'll be interesting to see.

    I mean, mythology probably never comes up in yangban captivity, but I feel like at least one person in Lung's gang knows something. He literally conquered or conscripted any Asian gang. Right there in the wiki:
    Lung made it a mission to conquer and absorb every gang in Brockton Bay with Asian members and many without. Once he had the manpower he needed, the non-Asian gangs were cannibalized for assets, their members discarded.

    No, no one would recognize it. The Crysmal is more likely to be recognized.

    The Chinese Myth Zouyu is a panda. The zouwu is a lion. I don't know about you, but the zouwu can't be connected to it.

    So you need to choose a creature (or special entry such as a template) worth 300 points or less. You can choose up to three creatures (entry) and then I'll do a second round of votes, among the most popular proposition.

    Please take the time to look for yourself what you would like to see in the quest, don't just copy the latest vote that looks nice. Think of your favorite pokemon or your favorite dinosaur. What do you think our hero needs the most, a flying mount, a defense against Master effect, or a forcefield generator, etc...
