Can't decide what I want in addition to beastmaster.

After all, just the fighting prowess and weapon skill of the beast master is very valuable

Downside is that it takes away one of our main loadout summons to properly use.

Is the Pet the Pektite?
I look like the Pektite as a baby. It stands around 30cm high and it's always near the Beastmaster (floating at shoulder height for the Pektite pet), it cannot move away but it does not hinder the movement of the Beastmaster. It cannot be attacked in the game, so in the quest, I'll treat them as a sort of hologram.

At work, the wifi won't let the website show up so I can't see what any if these do for myself. What dies the Pet grant the Beastmaster?

When first summoned it deals some elemental (electric) damage in a small area. (for the quest a 3m diameter circle centered 5m away max from the Beastmaster) after that, at the end of each round (every 60s in the quest) it will deal some small damage to adjacent enemies.
Finally, most Beastmaster abilities relied on dismissing a Pet to produce an effect. There's healing, damage, short-range teleportation, buff, revival. It's a unique game mechanic that I have never seen in other games before and quite fun in the game, I'm eager to test it in the quest.
If Beastmaster won, there's a good chance but you never know.

Ok cool! So that's what happens on summoning whtmat happens when Pektite gets dismissed?

[X] 400 Beastmaster + 50 Vulture

Writing on the wall says you should start preparing for it, lol.

Edit to vote: prussiangrandier convinced me with a good analysis.

???
As I said you can dismiss it to produce one effect (healing, damage, short-range teleportation, buff, or revival) and resummon it later (even immediately afterward, well next round in-game term). Or you can just dismiss it with no effect.

[X] 400 Beastmaster + 50 Vulture

Beast master is an absolute given. For Christ's sake, it literally has the ability called menagerie.

The vulture is simply taken for both being the cheapest, but also a flying summon that won't raise suspicion in most places, even if we couldn't see through its eyes It's great when combined with powers and can carry comms and cameras especially since vultures are meant to fly for hours without having to land,

the others are a lizard manticore which doesn't offer anything unique

the robot dragon may actually count as an annihilator in worm, one that can also cause status effect, but we can't get him either way, and he would probably be Manton limited

---///---

You guys know that the warden can't actually revive the dead, right? Just the recently deceased, there is a massive difference in that, not to mention that the power of the menagerie allows us to have this anyway by simply healing people.

heck, it may not actually heal brain damage, i most certainly wouldn't count on it healing anyone pass the 1-hour mark, not to mention brain damage from lack of oxygen and if it can do that it can also heal neurological conditions like strokes, which is far more impressive

it's actually pretty remarkable that being dead for 20 minutes isn't actually a miracle to modern medicine

even at its best the warden might save some people in an endbringer fight, and maybe clean pollution, not much else

oh, and beast master still has revive!

And that is only counting the skills and not the rest of the abilities, skills and other bonuses

MovementMove: 3 Jump: 4
EquipmentMaul, Axe, Mace, Light Armor, Heavy Armor, Shield
Class
Requirements
Mercenary 5
Ranger 5
Mender 4
Complete Mission "Wiped Out"

we should get mercenary, ranger and mender(healer) we should get them

I'm fine with not getting rewards for the wiped out mission tho

we could get the weapons and armor for free, or maybe skill in making and using them

---///---

Mastery Bonus
MND+3, DEF+5, RES+5

it's a +3 to mind, a +5 to defense and a +5 to resistance just by having it

Trivia
Summoned pets have some reactivity to the character's condition:

  • If the character has Root, pets will not jump as part of their idle animation
  • If the character has Haste, pets' idle animation will go much faster
  • If the character has Slow, pets' idle animation will go much slower
  • When swimming in water, pets will stand on a lilly pad that follows the player around
  • When floating, pets will also float with the player.

I mean it makes our summons immune to leviathan and gives summon flight if we have it equipped, and even if it doesn't, the sheer image of them in lily pads is adorable

You know, speaking of classes, what's everyone's opinion on the Wrangler, the budget tamer/wild man?

Wrangler

Monster trainers who have an uncanny connection with the beasts of the world. Wranglers require the Missions and Monsters DLC to use. If you take an action before moving, Skirmish gives you +1 Move when you take your action. If you don't take any actions on your turn, Skirmish will have no...

Don't know why people are voting for just Beastmaster. It literally becomes more powerful with more Fell Seal

Beastmaster gives Alex the armor plus the other stuff right?

I'm very happy with this one, It's a very interesting power. I'll do my best to put it to good use.
The character sheet will be updated soon.

Only the Beastmaster is in the CM, I consider the class requirement to be just a game mechanic so you don't have acces to all the classes right from the start. Furthermore in the game you can recruit Beastmaster without any level in those classes.

We don't gain the weapon and armor themselves, but the skill to use them yes.

Sadly it doesn't apply to our Pektite because it float in the air. But you can be sure that the lilypad will show up if we gain other Fell seal creatures.

I strongly hesitate to include it in the Cm but finally, opt not to. The abilities gained are mostly redundant with the power granted by the CM itself.

Because the other options come from Ark. it has no bearing on the power of the Beatmaster.
But next time we roll in that category it will be an additional incitative to pick there.

Starting my physical training proved more troublesome than I expected. With the number of strength enhancements affecting me, I need some seriously heavy dumbbells but putting on too many weights on a bar proved to be cumbersome. I knew that weights specifically made for stronger than normal Parahuman existed, but those were on the Rig, this training room was mainly for PRT troopers.

In the end, I called on Olky for help and with a simple spell, he doubled the weight of the dumbells I was using.

Just as I was finishing my first set I felt a new sensation coming from the Menagerie, not a living being, not a Power, and not even a skill.

No, it was new memories, memories of a life that I never lived but memories that were my own still. The process was much smoother than the knowledge skills I already received but also more pervasive.

I remembered waking up every morning during my apprenticeship with my master. I remembered living with him, doing chores for him, listening to his lessons, learning to wield the traditional weapons of our craft, putting into practice manifesting Pets, everything. Every single moment of that apprenticeship was now in my head, memories spanning four years of training. From the age of twelve to sixteen, I learned how to wield a unique type of magic in a fantasy world.

Strangely I couldn't remember what my master looked like, not his name, not his size, nothing specific, besides the fact that he was kind and strict. And the memories didn't replace my old memories from that period of my life on Earth. I simply now possess twice as many memories of that time period. And the transition was seamless, in my memories of the other world I never reacted with surprise at finding myself in that strange world, it was perfectly normal.

I was now a Beastmaster.

I slumped to the ground and closed my eyes. I heard my partners, even Shadow, coming closer. I heard a questioning thrill from Buoy that Babel translated. "Alright?"

"I'm fine guys. New… new… new something from the Menagerie. It was weird, and I need a moment to digest it but I'll be fine."

I opened my eyes. They didn't look convinced, Buoy was the most obvious, visibly fretting, but Zap was also eyeing me, and Shadow was hovering behind me protectively.

"I promise guys, I'll be fine. Thanks."

Almost reluctantly they return to their training.

For a bit, silence reigned in my head, none of my Minds spoke up, assimilating the new memories, skills, and knowledge that we inherited.

So that happened./Yeah, it did./Not sure how to feel right now./I mean that period wasn't painful or anything. A little too many chores, a little lonely but globally it was enjoyable, we learned a lot and the monsters that we interacted with were awesome./I would love to gain a Zotzit partner, they're creepy but awesome.

That comment sparked a memory of an encounter with one such monster, it was zipping everywhere. I could barely see it at times. And when it managed to launch his stinger right through the head of the Vangal, I was awestruck. It was brutal, disgusting, and gore but also cool in a way.

I spent a while reminiscing about my favorite memories of this apprenticeship with my Minds before refocusing on the present.

All in all, it wasn't a bad experience, and okay having two sets of memories for the same time period could be confusing, but I think we can deal with it. And the power we gained will be very useful./Okay but was it real? Did it really happen to us via some time travel and dimensional travel shenanigan? Or was it just a very realistic dream?/I can answer some of that. I just got back from the Mental Realm. In there, our Beastmaster powers are represented by a stone statue of us wearing the traditional Beastmaster attire. And when I touched it the Menagerie gave me more info on the process of gaining those powers./Go on./So those memories are real, but they're not our memories. They're the memories of someone with a lot of points in common with us, well our twelve to sixteen years old self at any rate. That person learned to be a Beastmaster for real, and they lived a normal life in that world. And the Menagerie "only" copied their memories in our head./Just to clear that person isn't an alternate version of us? Like an Alex from Earth Aleph for example?/No, our worlds are too different for that, it's just someone with a similar mentality./Okay. Not sure if it's better or worse but okay.

I digested that revelation quietly. Deciding that delving into that point would be a waste of time I queried my Minds on something else.

So strategically, I think we can agree that this has some severe impact on our fighting style./Well yes and no. It does give us some options without being dependent on our partners but they're slower, we need to summon and then dismiss our Pektite Dollop for all our powers./And we don't have any other Pet at the moment, we can only hope to gain other partners from this world at some point./So no, I don't think it will alter our fighting style, as much as we have one, in any real way./The last thing of note is that summoning or dismissing our Pet is a purely mental action, it only requires some concentration, so any Minds can do it without affecting our movements./The best thing to do is to have our Pet with us all the time ready to be dismissed as needed and dealing damage to foes within range automatically./Agreed.

With that decision taken and feeling much better about this strange powerup, I got up. That simple action appeared to relax my partners who were still keeping an eye on me. With a thought, I called for the first time in this world my Pet. It appeared hovering next to my shoulder.

Contrary to what one could expect from the name Beastmaster, Pets weren't real creatures, more a reflection of the monster that provides their forms. They were much closer to the standard definition of Projection than my partners, less than that even, with no real physical presence besides visuals. Calling them holograms wouldn't be entirely wrong either. They could react to some stimuli, could recognize friends from foes, and even take some initiative under specific circumstances but that was all.

Still, the little guy was cute and when I mimicked petting it, it appeared to appreciate it.

Satisfied with that and not feeling like continuing my physical exercise I decided to join my partners in their own training. I changed the rules to some extent. Shadow becomes the target, after being subject to the effect of Size Reduction, to make him harder to hit.

Buoy and Zap would each try to hit him with their own attacks and for my part, I deployed for the first time my Axe Legion, Howard.

When he appeared I felt a weight settle on my wrist, I looked down and saw that a bulky bracelet now encircled it, It generated the astral chain that linked me to my Legion. It was the only part visible to the outside world.

Returning my attention to my new invisible partner, I spent a little while admiring him. Despite the humongous weapon he was wielding he moved with unearthly grace, his feet not touching the ground but floating a centimeter above it.

Seeing through his eyes was weird, mainly because I lost the benefit of my enhanced eyesight, returning to something close to baseline human. In the same way, giving my order telepathically was different, it could be compared to moving a limb. Normally it would require a fair amount of practice to gain good synchronization however with Perfect Teamwork and my Minds to assist me, it wasn't exactly child play, but it became doable.

Interestingly despite not being able to see Howard, my other partners could still somehow perceive him, mostly in the context of reacting to his action. Certainly a product of Perfect Teamwork, they instinctively knew what would be my reaction in nearly all situations and how I would direct Howard and they could react accordingly.

In any case, my role in that exercise was to direct Shadow toward the attacking duo without touching him, using only Howard and the barrier he could generate.

At three against one, it should have been easy.

It wasn't.

Shadow was unbelievably fast once shrunken down, able to move on the walls as easily as on the ground, and smart enough to make unexpected moves regularly. My actions were considerably limited by both the range at which my Axe legion could move and by the amount of time he could remain summoned.

We trained like that for nearly an hour, until Shadow was tagged enough to call it a win. On a technicality, the delay between those hits allowed him to regenerate without fail.

All in all, I was satisfied with the results. Buoy and Zap got along much better, I wouldn't say that they became close but they could at least work together. They even managed to create a sort of combo attack by having Zap fire an electric dart in the middle of a Water Pulse.

For his part, and surprisingly, Shadow really enjoys being small, it synergized well with his assassin class. And we discovered that it slightly reduced the prana drain on my magic circuits, so that was a plus.

I thanked them all for their help and dismissed Buoy and Zap so they could rest in the Mental Realm. Shadow, still small, would follow me under presence concealment as a pseudo bodyguard. Mostly for practice moving inside a building.

My evening patrol was still a few hours away but I wanted to shower and relax a little before that point.

I know that nearly the whole chapter was about our Beastmaster powers but I think it was warranted. I want to really show the difference with more normal powers.
I also spent half an hour reskinning my Beastmaster in Fell Seal to recreate as close as possible Compendium with his Pektite Dollop by his side. It's pretty close, he's only missing the jacket. Hope you like it.

For the roll, 230 points.
