Strange Aeons: A 40k Xeno Governor Quest

Are we allowed to reshuffle who is working on what in-progress action, as long as all actions remain in-progress?

Would Gravus consider being included on Study the Alloys as a favor, or would it cost us? We're >99% certain to complete on our own, for what it's worth.

Can Interact with a Notable be an Atraxas Diplomacy action, or only an Atraxas Personal?

Can Intrigue Actions benefit from Calculation Hearts? If not, is there a point to giving one to Nalka?

Would any of the current Faith actions make Nameria happy?

@Leon12431?

Also, way back in the earlier chapters:
But turning away from my thoughts, I turn back to her as she frowned, seemingly conflicted about the coming topic, "We are conflicted on the subject of the final major splinter. Many of its tenets we hold dear to our heart and code of action, it is a siren call to us and yet it taints His glory with that of the xenos and Chaos. It states that He upon Terra is the supreme god of all, and yet it gives recognition to the creatures of perfidious faith as fallen angels of His glory, in the end it is the most divergent and yet the one we find ourselves troubled by the most of all the splinters."
Should that "most" be "least" instead?

And a question, on chapter 0 actually:
The nameless apprentice could very easily be one of the first humans to bear the touch of existential death.
"bear the touch of existential death"
Does this mean that she's able to survive a deathblow? That she bears a bit of the Exatari Existence-Wounding trait, and with it the ability to kill Daemons? Or...?

As always, thanks!

1) No, humans unlike Atraxas can not be reshuffled.
2) Any tech priest/magos/archmagos would consider being able to make discrete and obvious progress on a DAoT relic to be a major favor done for them
3) It rolls with diplomacy and acts like a diplomacy action, I guess you could use the diplo category action for it but I dont see the value in doing so
4) Local intrigue actions do benefit yes
5) Not overly much, you would need to spend time with her to directly figure more out

Should that "most" be "least" instead?
No, the Church of the Ascendant Aquilia the most prominent of the local splinter cults is by far the most divergent from the standard Imperial Creed, but also one that obeys the primary aspects of it. (There are 7 splinters including the normal Creed in the sector and most of them are rather out there)

Does this mean that she's able to survive a deathblow? That she bears a bit of the Exatari Existence-Wounding trait, and with it the ability to kill Daemons? Or...?
The second option, part of the Existence Wounding, not the same to any means but a similar effect could be achieved by her.

Thanks!!!

Will Donate to Orphanages provide 0 suspicion reduction in the upcoming turn? I think we've taken it twice recently. If so, is there a new suspicion-reduction option in its place - or something to permanently boost orphanages for a long-term buff?

Also, can Atraxas and Nameria each take a copy of Donate to the local Church, or is that a 1/turn max option?

@Leon12431

Due to various actions being done together you are going to be upgrading the orphanage action so to speak and altering things. As for the church its a 1 per turn thing pretty much otherwise it becomes too easy to counteract suspicion and I will be imposing a limit on how often you can get a suspicion removal via it for much the same reason.

@Leon12431 If Atraxas massively overdid the DC on Discover+Implement Library: Information, would he get any lasting bonuses beyond what the homeworld will be giving him a turn later anyway?

Will Library: Information reduce DC's on Spam Ruin Inversion Arrays and/or Crucible of War?

Can we have a "Don't fully mine out the planet that we might want to make Living, but do set up a few mines and a lot of defensive infrastructure" Action choice? That would be tremendously convenient.

If Harkar +Araahal assisted with Crucible of War, would they reduce the Resource cost? Or would that freak people out too much?

If we were, say, 50 points short of the DC on Crucible of War, would we be allowed to spend an Action during Turn 11 to get it fully-online ASAP? Or how would that work?

Thanks!!!

1) There is a major difference between Atraxas integrating the Libraries and the Homeworld doing so. Think of it as Atraxas getting a few principles down and understood basically the level of a middle or high school physics education while the Homeworld gets a PhD level understanding. Not a perfect analogy but it works.
2) Information will alter DCs in general but the amount altered depends heavily on the action itself. Generally between 1 and 5% reduction
3) No, the Living World requires a world that is for all intents and purposes unspoiled by industrialization and mining. The outpost gets away with it since its removing such minuscule amounts of resources and no exotics
4) Big freak out, but it would reduce the resource cost for Resources yes.
5) I will have to think on this idea, there is some merit to having a grace period for DCs that are done but not done.

@Leon12431, does spamming Inversion Arrays increase the chances of Chaos reverse-engineering Ruin?
Would Gravus be able to help with the "place Inversion Arrays on ships" component?
Would the Private Army, and/or Harkar be able to help with the Inversion Arrays?
Thanks!

System Overhaul: ... Each world provides 5% improvement to extraction and production totals to the system (20)
How does this work? If we had 100 worlds and completed System Overhaul, would that provide a x6 multiplier to all Extraction and Production, system-wide? Or?

Also, are we still allowed to go into negative Resources, up to 4x our Resource-income-per-turn?

Thanks!

1) Atraxas will put antimatter bombs on the arrays such that if they are captured they will be removed from the field entirely
2) No tech priest can currently help on this, the only one that has any amount of skill with this is Artheda.

Yes, System Overhaul becomes more expensive the more worlds are in the system but the bonus remains constant.

Some calculations re Planetary Acquisition and Crucible/Forge of War, as preparations for the upcoming invasion.

We know roughly what Turn 7 does, though the details are (of course) waiting for the update. I'll make ballpark guesses as necessary.

Guesses:
Suppose the Planetary Barge II costs 1.5x as much (Resources, Alloys, Suspicion, DC) as the Barge I but delivers 2x the results.
Suppose the Economic Studies action increased the profit of each acquired Planet from +30 Resources/turn to +50 Resources/turn.
Suppose Harkar gets two Actions per turn thanks to her new Cybernetics, and is otherwise functionally unaffected.
Let's assume we buy 200-odd Calculation Hearts ~700-800 Favor (worth it for an effective +5 Atraxas Stewardship Actions per turn).

If we built a Barge II on Turn 8 (costs 3 Atraxus Actions - ouch) and used the stack of Calculation Hearts on turns 9-10, we would be able to run Planetary Acquisition twice per turn for Turn 9 and Turn 10. A Barge I delivers +8 planets/Action on average, so a Barge II would be assumed to deliver +16; base averages to 3 planets/Action. With 2*2=4 Actions, and 3+16=19 planets/Action, we'd be looking at an average of 76 planets. We'd get half of those - 38 planets - to give us one turn of Resources, or +1900 Resources.
Resource cost: 7.5k to build the Barge II, 100*2=200 upkeep on said Barge II, 50*4=200 on Planetary Acquisition, and 1900 refunded from profit.
There's a chance Planetary Acquisition might have a Suspicion cost?
TL;DR: Cost is 30-5=25 Suspicion, 6k Resources, 750 Alloys, 2 turns of "not using the Calculation Hearts for something else", and 3 Atraxus Actions on Turn 8.

The Forge of War is dangerous narratively, but less so than Crucible of War. It costs 2.5k Resources (easy), 500 Alloys (probably fine), +1k Upkeep (affordable), and DC 1500. The DC is either easy enough, or challenging - depending on whether Atraxas can get help from Private Army, Harkar, etc - I'm assuming yes. With 6 Private Army Actions, +4d +50ish from Harkar, +2d +10ish from Nameria, and Atraxas himself natively having 4d+53 and +4d per additional Action, we'd make 16d +110ish per turn with a single Atraxas Action. That's 900ish progress per turn, plus 200ish per extra Atraxas Action spent. So, yeah, this is something we wouldn't even have to start on Turn 8; we could leave it for Turn 9, and maybe even withdraw a few Actions if the first set of rolls go well.
@Leon12431, may I confirm that the Private Army and Harkar can help with Forge/Crucible of War?

By contrast, the Crucible of War is considerably more narratively dangerous. It costs 10k Resources (ouch), 1k Alloys (steep but probably affordable), +2k Upkeep (steep but probably affordable), and DC 3k (ouch). If we started it next turn, and put an extra 3 Atraxas Actions in on Turn 9 (when he gets +14 Actions from Wounds), we should barely pass. Huh. That's genuinely new information to me!

There are three downsides to going for Crucible of War instead of Forge of War:
  1. Narrative impact is presumably considerably greater and more dangerous.
  2. Resource costs are barely affordable.
  3. I'm not sure we'll have the Actions available to properly fill the system with Inversion Arrays if we do this. (Planetary Gellar Fields also apply here.)
It looks like we have 6648 Resources at the start of this turn, but spend 5845 of them. I'm not sure I'm reading the Wealth
Breakdown right, but I think we're making min(3518.75 extraction, 4286 production) = 3518 Resources per turn, plus 800 Trade, plus 1000 for the Black Hole, equals 5318. I think our expenditures will be 615+250+665+10+545+20=2105 (after 400+100+50+25+20+20=615 added this turn). At our current turn's end, we should have 6648-5845 +(5318 -500 Black-hole upgrade only takes effect next turn) -1490 (expenditures at turn start) = 4131 Resources. In future turns, we should have net-income of 3213 per turn. I think we can go into debt up to 4x our net-income-per-turn? If so, we can spend 4131 +(3213)*(3 turns + 4 debt) = 26622 total Resources. Without debt, that would be a mere 13770 Resources, and Leon has stated that we should avoid debt as best as possible. @Leon12431 how wrong do I have this calculation?

Exatari Alloys: 1450 -100 spent this turn +200 made this turn +500*3 future-turns = 3050 Alloys we could potentially spend.

Running Barge II + Planetary Acquisition and Crucible of War costs 16k of 13.7k/26.6k available Resources and 1750 of 3050 available Alloys. Pushing our Resource constraints, to put it mildly.

Running Barge II + Planetary Acquisition and Forge of War costs 8.5k of 13.7k/26.6k available Resources and 1250 of 3050 available Alloys - almost certainly a valid option. Especially since Alloys are the only thing that's likely to conflict with Inversion Arrays / Gellar Fields preparations, and we can most likely ask for a thousand of them while we're picking up the Calculation Hearts.

I am honestly not really good at extrapolating that kind of thing off the top of my head, but it looks fine to me. I will say that Debt is very bad even with the income you are starting to have.
What is the formula for "net income per turn"? Is it:
the lesser of (Extraction and (Production minus anything leased out)) plus Black Hole plus Trade
minus (total-upkeep plus Tithe)?

I think I've got most of it right, barring Trade, which I'm not at all sure about.

What does Planetary Wealth do, in this context? "Not much, since we don't have enough to buy any real amount of Resources?"

Thanks!!!

Net Income basically is

Extraction compared to Production
If Extraction < Production -> Gain Resources = Extraction + Trade + Black hole - Upkeep
If Extraction > Production -> Gain Resources = Production + Trade + Black hole - Upkeep
Trade adds to final total
Tithe is included in Upkeep

Say when we are upgrading our PDF, do they get the tanks, vehicles and all the other things our private army can get? also do we ever have to send our PDF out as a Tithe or when ever the empire need more manpower?

Part of the tithe is men and equipment but it's just abstracted such that you dont see that really. As for the upgrading yeah, you are basically turning the PDF into the modern USA army instead of its current state of being around Poland's WW2 era stuff only teched up. So a fairly massive overhaul.

@Leon12431, in-character, how important would Atraxas weight each of the following, in terms of being prepared for the invasion:
  1. Forge of War
  2. Crucible of War
  3. ~6 total Acquired Planets (Basic Acquire Twice)
  4. ~12 total Acquired Planets (Basic Acquire Four Times)
  5. ~22 total Acquired Planets (Barge1 +Acquire Twice)
  6. ~75 total Acquired Planets (Barge2 +Acquire Four Times)
  7. Spamming Inversion Arrays
  8. Planetary Gellar Fields
Thanks!

Atraxas has basically 2 lists, the first is what would be feasible and the other is basically the dream list

Feasible
Inversion Arrays
Planetary Gellar Fields
Regional Meta Shields
~6 planets
12 planets
22 planets
75 planets
Forge of War
Crucible of War

Dream
Crucible of War
100 Planets
Second Astronomican
Radiant Nexus
Inversion Arrays
Regional Meta Shields
Planetary Gellar Fields

So is this describing "most to least feasible" and "most to least helpful"?
(If not, then why are a bunch of items on both lists?)

Thanks!
