[X] Plan: Don't make me come over there!

You know, since 40k tanks are basically 20th century tanks but with a sci-fi coat of paint, why don't we use that and use 21th century tanks but make them 40k?

Yah, I am google searching for possible pictures and Aesthetics (Because just saying I hate X, and providing no alternative is dickish), Hitting on a few option so far but most things in a 40k style are just 40k.

i wholly agree
just seek non abrams tanks

if you want that PS1 low poly aesthetic, the german panther kf51 works

at least is a break from the abraham tank profile

To be fair, my knowledge of tanks ends at 'looks like a tank'.

I wouldn't know the difference between a WWII and a modern tank. I was just throwing ideas.

But if we go for a sleek, modern tank, where are we going to put the sponsoon guns!??! You can't have a tank in 40k if you don't also have a gun poking out of either side!

Edit

So basically something like this?

NVM, this works

My proposal for tanks is a bit unorthodox but I feel like these 'tanks' would be real good for urban combat the normal tanks traditionally have issues with.

I just feel like making a small joke about what a tank is lol

Honestly, The 3d Printing sites have been a godsend

First up is the easy stop, BattleTech wildly varies. It has some abominations against god, and some good tanks, for this I was able to pick out some that I liked and felt 40k

Of course, The downside is that with the exception of the Morrigu, Now of these really feeeel like they were designed like a postwar Crackhead, Like all good 40k vehicles should. Morrigu got extr points for that.

Next
I started poking around with generic Sci-fi tags, Dune had some, But nothing great

3d STL shops were next, Because you can find some cool legally distinct stuff on their.
My favorite from this guys, has to be his siege tank tribute and the Heavy Riot Tank, The riot tank reminds me of a downgraded Atreus, Like a tech priest saw it then tried to recreate it and the siege tank tribute looks pretty chunky like a good 40 vehicle should.

this one was based off the char, Which feels like real life trying to do 40k already, And serves as a wonderful Base model for aesthetics, even if we don't exactly want the gun permanently case mate. Past that I found some cool Spidertanks (Keeping those in the back pocket, because thy are dead on aesthetically Imo) and a Legally distinct Leman russ variant, Which Looks really cool and nails the "I'm a brick " look while being unique.

Past that, We move into the tanks that are Either not sci-Fi, Or are better off being used as a Generally Idea of what it looks like before we add Soup up 40k Tech to a WW1/2/ Post war tank.

I like this one, It deviates away from the Typical 40k aesthetic, while maintaining the Brutal, Heavy brick design approach that tanks need to survive in the universe.

I actually kinda love these, They fit perfectly with the Malcador in the "I am Expansionist empires First baby tank" category? I am unsure whether Thread would actually agree to these, but i love the bunker on Treads aspect that they have going on.

No image collection of possible tank designs is complete without bringing up the best, accept no substitute. Its the apocalypse tank. Its fully possible and aesthetically fitting to use a smaller version of it for our tank, With the Dozer/Blade hybrids being perfectly in setting unlike their home universe, Because now you can threaten to Cut up an Dangerous beasty.

Anyway, this is what I have managed to pull up with my google fu for tanks that aren't just "21 century Sci-fi" overly smooth, or Abrams in space or "look at all the silly fantasy people, Their tanks are Suboptimal unlike REAL WORLD tanks, Lets just make REAL WORLD tank with their tech, It would be SO much better"

If we are throwing sci-fi settings, I have to give a shoutout to Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

They are bit overspecialised for the desert but they do share the vibe of brick on wheels that the Imperium seems to prefer.

Also, building the airfield on wheels could be cool for a future project.

To be fair, my knowledge of tanks ends at 'looks like a tank'.

1) direct vs indirect fire:
direct fire is as the name implies, you shoot directly at what you aim, this means you are in range to actually sight your enemy (so unless a sniper it means you are in the frontline fighting short to mid range)

indirect fire means firing while not necesarily being able to look at your enemy directly,or with your projectile following a path you cant follow with your line of sight (like chuking a grenade to the other side of a wall),in short ranges indirect fire involves grenades or firing over shoulder

in long range it involves stuff like missiles and artillery ideally they fire from really far away, and then projectile falls forming a arc trajectory, far beyond range of sight (needing calculations to fire at coordinates, but also allowing to fire from a safer position)

2)
a armored vehicle is a vehicle that is resistant to projectiles and damage, their rough categories are:

>APC: armored personel carrier

a armored vehicle that carries a lot of troops but it has very light to none weaponry (usually below 20mm,and for reference 20mm is a grenade launcher ammo size),esentially a box with a machine gun or a truck with extra armor
is not intended to spear head fight,is just a battle taxi, moves troops from A to B in a combat area

(notice the really small gun)

>IFV: armored vehicle that carries troops, but has better combat capabilities than a APC, (projectile ammo size is 20mm and above)

(notice it has bigger weapons, more sensors, also may or not have missile launcher to fight tanks etc)

Is usually tasked with killing/supressing the enemy infantry

main battle tank:

it doesnt carry troops, instead its role is to give direct fire support with a really big gun
it helps attack enemy fortifications, enemy vehicles and other enemy tanks

>MRAP:

mine-resistant-ambush-protected
esentially a truck that can survive a really fucking big explosive trap going off underneat it,specially useful for moving in areas with guerilla activity

>SPG (self propelled gun):

GUN is usually a nickname for "big canon used for indirect fire",so a SPG is a indirect fire gun ( artillery) mounted on a vehicle so it can move quickly rather than being towed (more advanced ones have stuff like auto targetting)

SPAA (self propelled anti aircraft): self explanatory

>amphibious assault vehicles (AAV):
Vehicles designed to be able operate at water and land, intended for landing and water crossing operations

>AMV(armored medical vehicle):

Armored ambulances

>CEV(combat engineering vehicle):

Building vehicles with extra layer of protection

Listen man. I appreciate the effort but I'm a humanities nerd, the moment specs come up my eyes just glaze over and info goes into one ear and comes out the other.

I thank you for taking the time to explain but I warn you that it is futile and its better to just not bother. I'll leave the details to the people who actually care about those things.

On another topic, after the tanks I think we should think about getting a new loadout for the Karnivores. Currently they are melee centric units with only a few missiles for ranged combat, I think they could use a ranged or mixed variant. Say, a battle cannon for anti-armor duty and a scaled up multilas for anti-light unit duty?
