Yeah, plus I feel like we haven't been building up the Navy as much as we should. By the end of the century I want us to design another Light Cruiser.
We definitely need a squadron leader light cruiser for the Crux frigates to serve as the frontline anchor. And once we get the +2 DP project done we should go for a Libra-Secundus design I think since we'll have gained 4 DP compared to when we first Designed the Libra.

Likely--especially if they're judging based on our sloop--they think we're an easy target for a broad expansion in their industrial base, and are hoping to make a show of force to get us to submit so they can get cheap food, cheap material, and cheap labor. Broadly, we'd be hard pressed to take them on if we struck first, but if they take a swing at us first... Well, we'll be the ones with the home field advantage, and we can likely make a lot of ground before they can do much back to us.

@HeroCooky , given the build-up going on, I'm guessing our own mobile forces are making sure they can respond quickly to any incursion on Itani, right? And now that we have "A Web of Song", we can send word once they enter and be moving accordingly?
Yes to both questions.
@HeroCooky , do DP increases effect the quality of the SDF/system bound fleet stuff?
Yeah, broadly. The SDF uses different designs (due to not requiring 40% of the same mass for Warp stuff), but they are close enough to apply.

That's a lot of assumptions there. I would read the update where I introduced them again if I were you.

Actually, I'd say that Ship Design Improvements is more important. Especially since it would effectively give us the same DP as two standardization projects and only needs 2 actions
Standardization might be good to lock in Doctrine rebates for stuff that reaches 1 DP if we ever change doctrine.
But yeah, in general Ship Design Improvements is better.
2 DP instead of one, 2 research cost instead of 4, flexible dp instead of locking in the components.

That, and they likely aren't expecting every system to be as built as we've done.

Also, I have been thinking about making some new SAGs. A Light Sabotage one in prep for when we go up against an enemy with actual logistics, and an Ogryn one b/c they're our big bois and I want to seem them crump some heads.

Thanks for reminding me to check.

So, let me review and repost it here...

The Protectorate of Neon said:
In contrast, the Scout entering the Amratur Sub-Sector had a...interesting time. Entering Ikatun, the ship began to initially burn toward the planet before a trio of Light Monitors began painting the ship with vox communications, proclaiming the system under the protection of "Lord High Protector Ivan Svastios Numarata van Hijila van Rikatin von Von Grabsteinhauerhausen" and part of the "Protectorate of Neon," an "Imperium of Man Enclave under the ever-burning protection of the God-Emperor of Man, never to be subject to the predations of the Heretic, the Xenos, and the Witch!" Communications by the Scout were ignored by the vessel, which eventually retreated after gathering what planetary information could be gained without appearing too hostile. The same dance and spiel repeated itself within the Barbarun system.

Yet, what is vital to know is that all three planets with human presence within the two systems had all the signs of being recently colonized and are only lightly defended. Concerningly, Karkona V of Ikatun is used as a military-industrial and recruitment world, with a small population of greenskins used to bloody recruits. Our information department theorizes that these are the remnants of the Ork polity we destroyed within our Sub-Sector. Brabu and Xandulia within Barbarun, in stark contrast, seem more focused on material extraction, the first used to mine for minerals with the latter being used as a proto-agricultural world overseen by a "House Imakulatius van Gerstenberg."

Whatever else the future may bring, it seems that this "Protectorate of Neon" will be our future adversary, as the crimes already passively noticed and written down by these two systems are enough to spell their end. A fortunate thing then that the Federation is now able to create its armored spearhead thanks to the manufactories for the Karnivores finishing in time.

So, broadly...

"Ruled by a dude with an incredibly over the top title--which probably means he demands Attention --uses being Ultra Orthodox as the cudgel for obedience from everyone, and are relatively newly expanded, and have gotten the Ork Problem sorted out comfortably enough to maintain a stable population on their training world as live-fire target exercises. All are newly settled but are being built up reasonably quickly, and have an agricultural specialist, a mineral extraction specialist, and a military specialist world on their border systems, but presumably lack the expertise or the slack to establish a permanent presence in Brotar. Despite this, they apparently have decently sophisticated void infrastructure given the presence of proper monitor ships even on a newly settled territory, and have either been provided with--or can construct--void ships in solid numbers based on the military build-up we've observed."

Is that about accurate or is something flying over my head here?

idea for new military action

[] [Other] Construct orbital/void defenses for a planet/system

I got the idea from re-reading our ship and saw our tall white designs, mainly the space stations/outposts.

Cooky can we stick some our ship weaponry on some stations that orbiting a planet as some stationary defenses?

[ ] Plan: Military Catch Up
-[] [Military] Fill Out The System Army Groups - (0/2)
-[] [Military] Construct/Refit A Warp Ship - [Choose a Design]
--[] 2x Crux-class Missile Frigates
--[] 4x Lupus-class Torpedo Destroyers

So here's a plan to really boost our navy. The Aries Secundus Corvettes should stomp all over the enemy corvettes while the Crux should at least be competitive with the enemy frigates. Once the Aries crushes the enemy corvettes they can help cascade down to eliminate the frigates and this will open the way for the Lupus destroyers to bracket and destroy the enemy light cruisers in conjunction with the Libra's strike wings.

I think we could grab tanks now, and then start increasing infrastructure, unless we really want to go all in to military.
We need a military build-up. If the Protectorate attacks now we'll likely take a significant hit to our mobile fleet even though we'd likely win at Itani. At minimum we need a build order of Lupus destroyers so that we'll have 5 torpedo destroyers total to counter the light cruisers instead of the one we have right now.

Yeah, if we take a look at our current SAGs, the majority are militias. So if anyone lands on those planets they will lose.

And seeing how orthodox imperial Neon is, a purge is most likely to follow in any conquered planets.

One wildly out-there interpretation is that they could be dealing with civil unrest? I barely have two flimsy pieces of evidence for this, so here goes.

Firstly, he loudly proclaims his rule over the system and mentions heretics, xenos, and witches.
- Pretty standard, but possibly some form of insecurity or challenge, a need to reaffirm his authority.
- In the order of enemies, the heretics were mentioned first/prioritized over the others.

Secondly, the worlds are recently colonized, with one being "overseen" by a noble house.
- Space Australia? I don't know if a world overseen by a specific noble house is all that uncommon, but they could be tasked with keeping the colonists suppressed, hence the need to keep the colonies guarded.

Again, a really weak theory that I don't believe in myself, but it's there. HeroCooky's comment has probably just made me paranoid.

You wouldn't need to make separate SAGs for both of those, each SAG has space for 4 units which you can fully customize-you could do 2 Light Sabotage Regiments, and then 2 Medium Mechanized Ogryn Regiments if you wanted, or however you want everything put together.

Hmm, moving stuff within our territory is free right? Then maybe we could preemptively station the Battlecolonies in Itani.

Because Itani doesn't even have a properly staffed militia to defend it, so if its attacked the most they'll be able to do is shout an alarm.

They also have their VI 7 SDF but yeah stationing the Battlecolonies there is a reasonable move.

We should consider spending the action to design and build our first fleet shepherd destroyer either now or very soon, so we have more strategic mobility to react whenever things start popping off either vs Neon or elsewhere.

Quick question, do we want to post all of our ships at Itani? Cause there's a chance that the Neon fleet jumps in, sees the numbers, and just fucks off back to their worlds. They can just start building more ships or just sit still waiting for us to attack first. Could we have it so that there's some ships to lure them in before we jump the rest of our fleet in?

Next turn methinks, especially if they take a swipe at us. Our production should outstrip theirs, even if they're using second line surplus ships.

Broadly though, I think "Bait them in and then pull out" is beyond the scope of what we can order. We were already told our fleets on on alert while they're massed up like that, and we'll hopefully get some advanced warning if we have an observer hiding in Brotar so we can start mobilizing our forces.

Ah, that's a shame. While Imperials can be dumb at times, I don't think they're the type to look at a fight where they have the numbers and weight disadvantage and go "meh, I can take them".

It's probably not going to happen this way, but I kinda hope that the Tank Research lets us design a few vehicles like we do our Ships. I expect that it would be below our level of abstraction, but it'd be cool to do at least once to set the tone for whatever core classes of Armored Fighting Vehicles we create.

It's going to happen that way.
The only thing I am undecided on is if I make sketches mandatory for that section or not.
Huh, interesting. Wonder if we can have this design be our heavy tank:
