[] [Frigate] Nemean Lion
-[] Length
- 1.700
-[] Width - 400
-[] Acceleration - 6
-[] Armor - Thick Single Hull (-1DP)
-[] Shields - Three Emitters
-[] Weapons - Small Hangars and Light Rotary Macro-Cannon (-3DP)
-[] Equipment - Armored Bridges, Advanced Alloying and Tuned Shields, Strict Pilot Training (4DP)

DP used: 8

Rationale: Considering we're going up against Orks and many other factions that greatly outnumber us I decided to mainly focus on survivability for this ship. It has a thick hull with advanced alloying, armoured bridges and tuned shields in order to make it very difficult to kill. Hangars have already proven themselves against the Orks so I picked one up along with strict pilot training in order to make them difficult to kill and I added a rotary Macro-Cannon in order to actually give the ship some teeth.

[] [Destroyer] Aries Type-II Corvette
-[] Length
- 1.300 Meters (+1 DP)
-[] Width - 300 Meters
-[] Acceleration - 7 Gravities
-[] Armor - Single Hull
-[] Shields - Two Emitters
-[] Weapons - Light Rotary Macro-Cannon Turret/Medium Lance Turret (-4 DP)
-[] Equipment - Advanced Alloying/Armored Lifepods/Auto-Loader (-3 DP)

RATIONALE: The next iteration of the Aries-class Corvette. The Aries Type-II corrects the flaws of the previous version without compromising on the durability and staying power the design was famous for. The introduction of a rotary autocannon with an advanced auto-loading assembly to maximize firing rate, with a heavier Lance weapon to strike at critical targets once shielding has been reduced tremendously expand its capacity to bring foes down, while retaining the advanced alloys and redundancy that exemplified the initial version of the craft.

@HeroCooky : This works then? Or do we need to do purely novel designs with this opportunity?

-[] Equipment - Advanced Alloying/Armored Lifepods/Auto-Loader (-3 DP)
Keep in mind, Autoloaders cost an extra DP now due to our doctrine, so this should be -4 DP.

Also, the Medium Lance will cost us -3DP now.

Also, I recommend we go to 2 light Rotary Cannons. Specialize a bit more, especially since a light rotary cannon will cost just as much as a regular light lance now.

I have literally just asked for clarification on that, because the QM has said that old designs don't benefit or suffer from the Doctrine penalty.

If it's not viable, I'll adjust accordingly.

But it is a new design? This whole design turn is literally to make new ships that specifically fit our new doctrine so I see no reason why it wouldn't here for a new design, even an update of an existing design.

Wait what? Old Desings are not impacted. New Ones are.

Teaches me to read more closely.
I'm biting myself here, but shouldn't rotary macro cannons cost more too then?
No. They are literally just another barrel slapped on, and another loading-crew squished into the space of one. Nothing high-tech going on here.

OH

Okay, that changes everything then.

Haha, let me get started on a complete retooling then!

Thank you for clarifying this before it was too late! That's why I'm asking the questions so much!

Here's my proposed Aries:

[Destroyer] Aries-II Class Corvette
-[X] Length - 1.300 (+1 DP)
-[X] Width - 300
-[X] Acceleration - 7 (+1DP)
-[X] Armor - Single Hull
-[X] Shields - Three Emmitters
-[X] Weapons - x2 Light Rotary Macrocannon Turrets (+4DP)
-[X] Equipment - Auto Loaders, Superior Gravimetric Engine Calculations, Armored Lifepods (+4 DP)

[] [Destroyer] Lupus-class Torpedo Destroyer
-[] Length
-1.300 Meters (+1 DP)
-[] Width - 250 Meters (+1 DP)
-[] Acceleration - 7.5 Gravities
-[] Armor - Single Hull
-[] Shields - Three Emitters
-[] Weapons - 4x80 Torpedo Tubes/1x Light Rotary Macrocannon Turret (-4 DP)
-[] Equipment - Superior Gravitmetric Engine Calculations/Emergency Manuever Engines/Advanced Alloying/Armored Life Pods (-4 DP)

RATIONALE: The 'Wolf'-class Torpedo Destroyer is not the traditional Cobra-class Destroyer that the Imperium makes use of--a thresher that exists to be easily committed to battle and easily replaced, to determine those lucky enough to survive the perils of battle in the Void. It exists to range out in packs to screen the fleets of the Candle Keepers, to herd the foemen to the ideal location for them to be struck down. To that end, they are equipped with four tubes of 60m torpedo launchers and a rotary macrocannon turret. Great care is taken to further optimize their mobility and minimize the loss of crew for when the inevitable happens and ill fate catches up--but they will find at least that the Candle Keepers have done everything in their power to keep their flame from winking out.

TACTICAL ROLE: High agility and rate of fire for standard weapons allow for medium-range fleet support, and a strong forward torpedo armament allows for devastating alpha strikes when the right moment can be found.

[] [Frigate] Crux-Class Missile Frigate
-[] Length
- 1.700 Meters
-[] Width - 400 Meters
-[] Acceleration - 6 Gravities
-[] Armor - Thick Single Hull (-1 DP)
-[] Shields - Three Emitters
-[] Weapons - 2x Medium Missile Batteries (-4 DP)
-[] Equipment - Missile Swarms/Advanced Alloying/Armored Life Pods (-3 DP)

RATIONALE: The "Crux" of which our line of battle revolves around, the Crux Missile Frigate is a strongly protected, surprisingly nimble brawler, that exists to go into Harm's Way and force the enemy to respond to their strikes, or suffer the consequences. A strong missile armament supplemented by advanced weapon salvos gives it a potent short range punch, and its enhanced armoring and trademark alloys allow it to shrug off all but the most fatal blows and return to service, having done its utmost to protect its crew and companions from the perils of the Void.

TACTIAL ROLE: Interceptors and pocket linebreakers, a Crux-class is exceptionally well protected for our tech level, and with a pair of Medium Missile Batteries supplemented by Missile Swarms, it has terrifying striking power against anything that tries to get stuck in. At 6 gravities of acceleration, it also is capable of outrunning most ships it can't hope to stand against, and thick armor and three Void Shield Emitters makes it capable of surviving no small amount of firepower. Will serve as excellent escorts for our upcoming Carrier ship.

[] Badger class Frigate
-[] Length
- 1.700
-[] Width - 400
-[] Acceleration - 6
-[] Armor - Single Hull
-[] Shields - Three Emitters
-[] Weapons - Medium Missile Battery, 2x Light Missile Turrets -4 DP
-[] Equipment - Missile Swarms, Advanced Alloying, Armored Bridge, Superior Gravimetric Engine Calculations -4 DP

Here's my suggestion. Since we are going to be relying on strikecraft when we design the light cruiser next turn, I think we should go for a missile brawler frigate. The Badger is a pretty tough design with a lot of missiles for smashing enemy shields down and overwhelming point defenses at medium to close range.

Edit: Ah, @Alectai put up a similar ship design

Armored Lifepods - A favorite target for many an Imperial or Xenos out there, armoring them will reduce the loss of life after a ship has been lost.
Armored Bridges - The Captain of a ship is, arguably, the most critical component of its machinery, as losing them leads to mass confusion and a drastic loss in efficiency. [DOCTRINE DISCOUNT - 1 DP Reduced]
does the armored bridges save multiple crew or only the captain

As a thought exercise...

{} {Destroyer} Class Name: Tin-Can
-{} Length: 1,200 Meters (+2 DP)
-{} Width: 200 Meters (+2 DP)
-{} Acceleration: 6 Gravities (+3 DP)
-{} Armor: Outer Coating (+2 DP)
-{} Shields: None (+3 DP)

A notional bare-bones Destroyer sized ship would have a total of 18 Design Points, with 12 going toward a certain minimum of military viability.

A similar exercise with a Frigate...

{} {Frigate} Class Name: Empty Keg
-{} Length: 1,600 Meters (+1 DP)
-{} Width: 350 Meters (+1 DP)
-{} Acceleration: 5 Gravities (+2 DP)
-{} Armor: Thin Single Hull (+1 DP)
-{} Shields: Singular Emitter (+2 DP)

Results in a 18 Design Point vehicle, with 5 Design Points worth of Length, Width, Armor, and Shields that can't be removed.

This suggests that Frigates are less efficient platforms for overall equipment loadout, but that benefit from higher limits on hit points, armor, and shields, and should be designed toward that end?
