Meanwhile: The Hokage at his Desk.
You smiled as you saw Kakashi's team try their best to take him on. It was nice fun to see someone else try the bell test instead of doing it yourself. There were many things that you were proud… and remorseful of during your tenure as a jounin instructor, the bell test was not one of them.
Kakashi grew that day if ever so slightly, having teammates by his side, and doing D-ranks again. You knew it made him less like the rule obsessed boy who had entered your care, only caring about the rules and the duty of being a ninja, and more like the child, he was supposed to be.
You had made many mistakes since that day… mistakes that you regret every night when you see Rin's blood-caked corpse from Kakashi's Chidori, or Obito… Kind, happy, cheerful, lovable, Obito, trying to kill you and everyone in the village, while claiming to be Madara Uchiha.
You were thankful that more people didn't die that night, and even though you mourned with Hiashi for the loss of his family and fellow clan members, Shiro and Neji, and so many others were still alive and needed him to be strong for them.
The fact that Shiro managed to prevent the clan from entering civil war, straightened Hiashi's act considerably.
Of course, that didn't stop you from sending over half a dozen ANBU to the clan compound to keep the peace, ones you were sure Shiro would not find like he always seems to do, was just your reasonable paranoia speaking.
After all, you needed the village unified if you were going to start your next project.
Danzo was still on the loose, and you suspected he was going to be trying to work with Obito to take control of the village.
It wasn't a theory that had much weight, but Orochimaru had been very talkative about Danzo's contingency plans, at least the few that were not destroyed when Danzo fled the village. Apparently, Danzo knew about Obito… and did nothing about him, placing his file under "Potential Assets."
Along with a group calling themselves the Akatsuki.
The names which, after you talked to Jiraya, sent him running to Rain.
You didn't try to stop him. It was something personal for him, and it was not your place to ask.
You had other things to worry about.
Naruto cooed and burped in his crib as he woke from his nap. He was quite a quiet baby if he had someone to give him his full attention.
And he always demanded full attention, either from you or his mother.
Unfortunately, it was your turn to watch Naruto. Kushina was exhausted from both a patrol mission at the wall and having to stay up for four hours to care for Naruto before she went to sleep.
You had expected her to remain retired from missions, but Kushina was adamant that until Konoha was 100% off crisis mode, she would make sure the village was safe for Naruto.
When that was going to be remained to be seen…
Thank Kami for shadow clones.
You made a shadow clone for your paperwork and smiled to Naruto. "Hey little guy, how's it going."
The little boy tugged at your hair… as always. "I know… it's just like your own."
"Uh… Lord Hokage." Oh no… You looked to the ANBU security guards in your office, lazing about in various places that were placed there when the office was designed. "Can we go to Team 7's test? Everyone in ANBU who isn't on mission is there… and there's a betting pool."
You sighed. "What are the odds for the kids passing?"
"26-1 sir." The guard stated. "Come on boss, I've got 10,000 Ryu on the kids passing."
You thought about it for a moment. "Am I still allowed to make a bet?" You asked.
"No sir, the betting was closed last night." The guard stated.
In that case. "Denied. And the Crystal ball is off-limits, so you can't watch it using that."
Your guards cried.
Serves them right for not allowing you to have a last-minute bet. You were the Hokage dammit, any time you can swindle your own men out of money through gambling, you would gladly do it.
Naruto made a sound and you smiled to him. "Oh looks like you have a stinky." You grinned.
It was time for some revenge.
AN: Enjoy.
