Yes I'm a slave to the dice. I also want to tell a good story.

@Magoose I apologise if that came across as an insult. I didn't mean that as such. I know you can be trusted to not fudge the numbers, and you have crazy weird luck when it comes to rolling. Lots of GM's do after all.

I meant it in the way that if the dice demand something crazy, you let the crazy happen. Lots of GM's aren't, and I can respect that about you. I personally dislike out of control randomness, and I will readily admit that I challenge you a lot to see if you have some internally consistent logic to make it more controlled chaos rather than just mindless randomness. And with your recent quests I've followed you do definitely seem to be controlling the chaos rather than it controlling you.

You've definitely seem to have grown a lot better at this since I first found you as a GM with Blood of the Frontier (and that was a crazy wild ride and feels like quite the throwback). Might just be me though, but you could be making things harder on yourself by allowing such rapid progress in settings that power creep has a huge effect on the whole series.

Vasily was a Legend walking among mere mortals, but it's not that unbelievable that he could mess up sometimes with bad luck. The stupid degree of power creep in Naruto fucks with that believability that luck is just as important as skill for such a person.

Might just be nostalgic for Blood of the Frontier and just talking out of my ass though. You're the one doing the hard part of writing this so do what feels right for yourself.

It's understandable to stop this one if you aren't enjoying it anymore. Lord knows we've given you a hard enough time as it is. Take care of yourself and try something just to have fun for the next one.

Here's the thing. The world is basically chance and anarchy, with nothing truly ever being set in stone, and bad things always happening everywhere.

No one is immune to it. That is why I always allow chaos to remain, even if it ruins me and my plans.

Because that's life, in all its glory. Usually, I use it to show something better and springboard the bad to allow the good, of both the world and in themes to shine.

Obviously, some people do not like that randomness, they see it as me doing something to promote an action and seem to make it their mission to call me railroading sonovabitch, who does not care about player choice or actions.

That is far from the truth... but it does not matter now. and I doubt those people would care anyway even if I did try to explain myself.

people can claim whatever they want about me, it won't matter to me, not too much anyway.

It only makes me sad that they won't be able to enjoy it, because that's all I ever try to do.

Would you then agree or disagree with my sentiment that in a setting with a lower power ceiling like you had with Blood of the Frontier allows you to show how chance plays a big roll for even the greatest?

Because personally I feel your love for randomness worked better in that setting, but that might be me looking back with nostalgia.

Yes. But that won't happen for a while before I go back to that setting again. Not for another few weeks.

While I do agree that the player base is/was being explicitly unreasonable; I do have to say that that largely stems from that of the Dice system you use for your quest(s?)

As near as I can tell, given your work-a-phobic attitude toward a goodly chunk of questing, and quest management your Dice'ing system is way, way to simplistic for most of your quests. This one in particular necessitated not only a progression system, but also tiered success achievement system. Instead, you made both require a simply role with a god tier DC. Then the players see you bitching about absurd crit achievements, and crowing at dice fails despite bonus to rolls additions (which are another system you failed at implementing properly; again, required tiers of bonus applications, and should have been much, much lower) ; and jump down your throat about trying to punish the MC/player character for successes, when it is more that you felt finally being able to add drama, that frankly wasn't particularly needed. Which is where my disappointment of most of your quests comes from; your incorrect view of Sauron needing a death star because you can't figure out how to write Frodo realistically with a light saber he just picked up, and managed not to stab himself in the head with it. When it's going good, with little bumps (I.E. not abysmal failures) you write just fine. But when it comes to writing up appropriate fail states, you... tend to go overboard and justify it with the "Drama needs to drama" view point. A view point that is patently false logic.

Important Announcement
So the guy who paid me to start this quest, who's contract I completed asked me to do a few more arcs for this quest.

And I may continue it, but there are going to be a few (slight ant one major) retcons if that is going to be the case.

And one really major piece of crazy sauce to be revealed next update.

Dead Money Part 2: The Woman with Hair of Fire
Dead Money Part 2: The Woman with Hair of Fire

The Old woman looked at you with her dead red eyes. Standing over you like an angel from heaven without the wings.

Her face was wrinkled but still youthful. Her hair flowy, if not straightened by some other layer of water or makeup. But you could see the chakra within her body… more chakra than you've ever seen in a single person, even in a Jinchuuriki. She was a monster.

But something that you noticed was that your range, the range you had become so accustomed to, was… gone. You could only see a few dozen meters in front of you, before your eyes quickly shut off, pain lurching onto your temples as you rubbed them.

Then you heard her voice. "Are you a Hyuga? Are you from Konoha?" The woman's mouth did not move, but you could hear a motherly voice speak.

"Who said that?" You asked, feeling panic and your heartbeat rising.

"I did dear." The woman smiled. "Do not be alarmed, it is just a genjutsu allowing me to speak to you."

You frowned, looking at the woman before asking. "Who are you? And why did you ask what village I was from?"

The woman frowned. "Because the other two that your employer brought were very rude to me, even though I tried to tell them that I was trying to help them escape this place alive."

"That can't be the only reason?" You stated.

The woman nodded, before showing a broken, battered Konoha headband. "Let's just say I'm a friend of Konoha and leave it at that."

"My name is Shiro Hyuga… and I am from Konoha." You stated as the woman helped you to your feet. "Something is wrong-"

"Yes.. the range on your eyes, the feeling of uneasiness in your head, a feeling of… emptiness?" the woman replied cryptically. She then revealed a vial, full of a bloody piece of… something. "Tumor, a small one in your skull. You're very young to be having such terrible things happening in your body. Did something happen to you? Were you experimented on?"

You didn't reply. The woman shook her head. "Ah… I take it the other souls in your spirit may have been trying to help you." Ice ran through your veins. "It matters little what they belive was right to help you live in this world, you are still a child, and need to grow before getting to your full potential."

"How?" you asked. That was a secret only you knew about.

"Takes one to know one, my dear." The woman replied knowingly, giving you a wink. "My name is Ayako."

Finally, the confusion was broken. "Ah, good, he's awake." The voice of your client stated. You turned to see a radio waiting on a bench where the two of you were near. "Pick up the damn radio woman!" Ayako did. "So mute, I take it you found out what was wrong with our safe cracker? Put him on!"

"Safe cracker?" you asked as Ayako handed you over the radio. "You're out of your damn mind if you think I'm going to work with you?"

"Oh but I did hire you for a job, and you will complete it." your client stated.

"To protect you from bandits, not join you in… whatever this is." You replied in anger as you looked around, activating your eyes, getting a large electrical shock, forcing you to turn off your eyes.

"Well, I'm sorry to say but, the seal on your neck says otherwise." You looked down to see a large seal going down your neck and shoulders. It was long, intricate, and above all else… it looked dangerous. "As you can tell, you, the old woman, your team, and a few others are here at the Jade Siren to help me retrieve what is mine."

"Yours?" You asked. "What the hell are we even here for?"

"That is not for you to know… do as I say, and you'll live long enough to find out." your client replied.

You growled in anger. "What did you do?"

"The Seal? Quite simple, it links you to the rest of the team. That team is going to get me into the casino."

"What the hell is the Jade Siren?" You asked.

"You don't know?" The client scoffed over the radio. "By the gods, I must have taken the wrong team… The Jade Siren is a tomb, a casino built over a treasure within it...no one knows what it truly is… but I want it." There was a pause. "Now, shut up and listen. Find your team, and get them here, the rest of the plan will fall into place."

"Why don't you do it?" You asked.

"I have to prepare for my part of the heist… you have to do the grunt work, gather the team, and I will explain the rest of the plan when they are here. Now get going."

"How do we find them?" You asked.

"Look at your wrist," Shu stated. "And you mute, stay here, we have things to discuss."

Static was your only response before you looked back to Ayako than down to your wrists.

"Speak the name you wish to find." The instructions read. Carved into your arms were the names of your team, and new coworkers for this mission.

You were going to question how he managed to do that on your tiny arm… but you suspected asking questions at this moment was going to be a very bad idea.

Who do you go find First?:
[]Itachi
[]Kakashi
[]Futaba
[]Deidara
[]Hidan

AN: Enjoy.

Are these guys idiots? They are making enemies of a Ninja Village by doing this, unless you're S class or another village this is the quickest way to die.

It was more jounin-level. The various gods in setting had range to cover the world. So what is our range once there isn't a seal fucking with us?

And are there any other nerfs?
Think it's not a seal, the tumor was what granted the range. The nerfs should be revealed over time, most likely our taijutsu got hit.

No, this guy has been planning this heist for over twenty years and has made it absolutely impossible for any of us to leave before said heist is done.

And i don't think he really cares about the villages at this moment. what with an untold treasure being in the casino waiting to be looted.

The seal is currently limiting us to a dozen-ish meters, and is doing various other things.
I'm curious what reasoning there was going 10 to 2. It doesn't seem like it'd solve any of the previous "problems" with the range of 10 miles. Unless you got some enemies lined up who have abilities that work from 3 miles away but not 11.
