I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

I don't think I have time for a more considered post on retinue composition etc, but for the name, if people want to do a continuation of the Norse thing Otrek's got going then calling them the Hird could be cool maybe.
 
Why didn't people vote to use a Yorri prod despite how amazingly useful that would be in actually speeding up research? Seriously, the spring is something that actually could have waited and Yorri would have actually helped speed things up anyway with less actions.

Max of 20 for me, anymore and it would not be a honorguard anymore, 20 rune supported elite heavy infantry with runelord support is enough for almost anything

Warriors they were, more shall they be. Allow these doughty veterans to branch out into whichever form of combat suits them best. For these former Huskarls it may not change all that much given they've spent centuries training with axes, but should you take on more dwarfs you wouldn't be limited to just Infantry. Retinue will consist of mixed arms combatants. Non-traditional but not uncommon, greater variance in arms, harder to equip.

So, as they have bad mobility, and this IS an issue... Someone I talk to about this quest had a suggestion.

MR Traversal, Impact, Might Banner.

Basically "Haha Dawi Block go ZOOM."

Also means as Snorri's probably with them Barak Azamar go zoom.

Anyways, upgrade them to Pure Gromril first, it's only 20 Dawi, and go from there, we think?
 
Honestly? Given how we burn actions like a sieve, having dedicated guards is a damned good idea.

As for plans, well, first off i would say Eclectic. These aren't just a bodyguard unit, these are our hero units, the dwsrfs that will stand with us in the line of battle! Limiting them to the great axe is all well and good, but limiting them is a shame! Should they desire to expand there kit or feel the need to gain new gear, i would say allow them to!

second, for size. As is feels right to me. 20 dwarf veterans are an excellent number. Enough to put up a serious fight in battle, but not so many that they can't avoid the more dangerous encounters of the north.

Next, for clans...

i honestly think universal acceptance would be ideal. Yes, keeping it in clan would be entirely respectable, but allowing those who have the skill and the courage to make the effort to join up is no great loss. And if they can demonstrate the skill to become a member in spite of other claimants, so much the better!

Admittedly that could come back to bute us in the ass eventually, but given our reputation and how most of the clans in the hold are descended from those who followed us north, i can say i am happy trusting the beardlings to not completely muck this up.

Snorri doesn't need his own army. More trouble keeping the beardlings in line than it would be worth, let them serve the Hold in other ways.
 
i would argue that we could maybe increase it to 60 just for the extra retainer action with it being a level i see with our productivity we could slowly reach a high standard of gear while giving us some more flexibility in having them maybe break down into smaller groups to help patrol our holdings or to gather reagents for runes more independently than i feel a group of 20 would be able to.
 
I like the idea of an eclectic composition and starting with 20 for now. I'm split on whether to keep it in the clan or universal recruitment since these guys were seconded to us specifically because they're all from Winterhearth. Any prestige they gain will reflect Winterhearth first and Krakka Drakk second as well.

On the other hand, since eclectic composition is probably going to win, a wider recruitment base would be helpful to get the necessary experts. If we ever decide to expand the group later, it'll probably have to be universal recruitment anyway since otherwise a noticeable chunk of Winterhearth would end up sworn directly to Snorri which would be a bit odd.

For the banners - Obviously ancestral aegis is going to be one of them. I figure an MTraversal for the memes and the MGrimnir one we've wanted for awhile to finish the set. We could try giving the champion mountainsouled armor and the boom hammer to see if they plus AA combo.
 
a Few questions asked of me and in thread:

Q. How many can we recruit without raising brows?
A. Eh pretty high if you don't bungle it up. 180 for instance is within your rights, a lot of Clans go over that when they go to war anyways and Otrek certainly has more than that many Huskarls.

Q. What are Snazz points.
A. They are not un-Snazz points.

Q. Can we equip them all with Adamant?
A. If you're nuts and have at least 3 times the amount of Adamant than there are Dawi you have in your band yes, and if you want Master Runes then you need reagents as well! Note that the action to equip them will be a simple action, not a difficult one. SO you have no control over the Runes put on the armour, and as Master Runes are one of the few times Snorri follows the Rule of Pride to the letter WELL.... it'll at the very least be a power move to make even the oldest of Runelords go "damn son."

Q. Can we attach a Gronti or Artillery to this company?
A. Gronti yes, Artillery needs artillerists but technically yes!

Q. Can we recruit the entire Hold.
A. No that's called being King.
