Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

The Entity is currently in its True Form.

The Entity is currently in a form which Homura Akemi is capable of approaching and witnessing without damage to her psyche.

The Entity is currently in a form which Homura Akemi is capable of approaching and witnessing without damage to her body.

The Entity is currently in a form which Homura Akemi is capable of approaching and witnessing without losing her life.

Now, that's how you use the Blue.

Okay. That's much better.

I mean, SV has a tendency to risk all three of those regardless, but knowing that scouting is actually SAFE is helpful.

...And then I got my quests mixed up again and thought we were post-Ashley fight for a moment there.

Yeah, pretty much anything can potentially drive you to injury. Fluffy kitten? You could get hit by a car because you were attempting to get it out of the middle of the road. You could be driven to cuddle it, and be scratched for your efforts. You could be distracted by it and not notice an incoming spear.

Lots of options.

How about I just ask more directly:

This is not actually an eldrich Entity from the Cthulhu Mythos, and the dream Homura just had is not directly related to the threat that Kyouko and Nanoha are currently engaging.

[X] Time stop
[X] Pull Sayaka into time stop and help her move Mami out of danger.
[X] Flight. Safe-ish distance, observe, figure out what the hell's attacking and why.
-[X] Use a grief seed on the way out.
[X] Once Mami and Sayaka are safe return to investigate the situation in time stop.
-[X] Arm self with machine gun
--[X] Be prepared to fight anything that moves despite time stop.

[X] Pull Sayaka into time stop and help her move Mami out of danger.
Now that I think about it, if we're going to be investigating anyway, doing this part in TS is a waste of magic-use, which we're kind of limited on due to high Grief, low Sanity, and relatively middle-of-the-road Stability Modifier. If we're not investigating, then doing this in TS is also a waste because we're fleeing and not currently being pursued.

As far as I can tell, we really have two realistic options (using Kinematics-style base plans):

[X] Base Plan Minimum Safe Distance
-[X] Help Sayaka move Mami out of danger.
-[X] Flight. Safe-ish distance, observe, figure out what the hell's attacking and why.
-[X] Once Mami and Sayaka are safe return to investigate the situation in time stop. (Expected usage: 30 seconds.)
--[X] Arm self with machine gun
--[X] Use a grief seed on the way in.
--[X] Be prepared to fight anything that moves despite time stop.

[X] Base Plan Force Recon - Time Stop Style
-[X] Cleanse Soul Gem
-[X] Time Stop
-[X] Quick recon: what is the situation? Who/what is attacking? Are Kyouko/Nanoha injured? Holding their own? Winning? (Expected usage: 10 seconds. Max usage: 30 seconds)
--[X] If fight is not going well, use Time Stop to evacuate Mami's apartment. Cover retreat with time-stopped machine gun fire (Expected usage: 1 minute. Max usage: 2 minutes)
--[X] Otherwise, end Time Stop and help evacuate Sayaka+Mami.
---[X] Once Mami and Sayaka are safe return to back up Nanoha and Kyouko.

My vote, in this case, would be:
[X] Plan Force Recon - Time Stop Style

in which case, you want to take the x's out of all the other boxes.
Actually he doesn't have to, the tally system accounts for base plan posts like that.

[X] Plan Force Recon - Time Stop Style

Given our current grief levels, I think every plan should start with a cleanse. It isn't enough just to set a limit
You know, if the QM is going to be mean enough that Grief of 850+ is actually not possible because you immediately become a Witch any time you get that high, then he may as well say that Grief only goes up to 850. Why even have those numbers, if you're not allowed to use them?

Grief Spiral a bitch.

Hallucinations+low sanity+Despair= Bad

And Grief Spiral happens at 1000, not 850, unless @Higure is trying to play a "Gotcha!" game and Bad End us early. IIRC someone did that to everyone in another quest, forcing the PC to roll a save every time we wanted to cleanse above a certain threshold value (I think it was 900, and in Ersatz or Mami Quest?); I don't really remember because I basically stopped following the Quest since neither the players nor the QM seemed particularly interested in doing anything but train-wrecking the quest in the most elaborate way possible.

Ersatz has gotten better, the players who made all the horrible horrible decisions either left or got better.
I never did look at Mami Quest.

What was the big one in Ersatz? Threaten to Nuke Tokyo and then leave the girl alive?

I believe in our fight with the angel/witch, we hit somewhere between 990 and 999. So yeah, we're not limited to keeping things under 850. However being at those upper levels does mean you pretty much can't think clearly, so you're dependent on having someone else there to save you.

That was just general stupidity. Had nothing to do with grief levels, that I recall.

That's exactly it. I've noticed that as grief increases Homura thinks more emotionally and less logically. Setting threshold levels in the vote is fine, but Homura isn't perfect, especially at high grief levels, and I'd rather cleanse at ~800 and eat the loss, which will mean we'll much better execute any plan we have. That goes doubly the more involved the plan is.

I mean, we were fine against the Angel until we decided to eat an attack with the shield. But you have to look at why we chose to eat that attack. Basically, I don't think setting a threshold is an appropriate safety measure. I think having a large buffer is. Setting a threshold is a reactive measure - it doesn't work when the threat is that we become too emotionally compromised to follow a plan.

For the most part I agree. However, we only have one grief seed, with only four charges, and given what we had to do to get that one, it looks like grief seeds are going to be harder to come by here at the end of time, where the dimensions are getting crossed.

Given all that, I want to keep two charges handy just to handle the next Witch, which means we need to be careful to stretch a little between cleanses, especially since we still haven't gone "shopping" at a place with real weapons yet, like an army base, which is sure to rack up a significant amount of Grief as well.

We have two grief seeds. The inventory isn't accurate. We've got enough charges.
