Ok. This is a pretty overwhelming lead. I'll start on the update when I get home and miiiight have it up tonight.

At the very least I have your potential Chapter Masters sketched out. This time they each was chosen for a certain expertise that could be pivotal when dealing with the mission.

Fun fact, the Dark Angels were the war crime specialists but every Legion was expected to field that capability. You guys might see how the Salamanders handle that.

Yeah space marines do a lot of war crimes.

Yes, but I feel that the Salamanders mindset and proclivities means they have a distinct method from their peers. Somehow I think they're both better and worse for it.

Bah, let me actually write it up and it might make more sense what I'm getting at. I promise it's not just a war crimes joke.

Looking at this part of the Salamander's description
Their gene seed is also prone to developing 'stable' mutations when introduced to a new environ.
I wounder what sort of mutations they'll develop on a world where feral tyrannids and are fighting Nurgalite mutants

  • [X] Plan: Kill it with Fire
-[X] The Cursed Leviathans (Nurgle, Tyranids): It seems that you were not the only one concerned with the stalemate in the Segmentum Ultima. The endless cycles of death and rebirth have drawn Rotigus the Rainfather into realspace once more. Not even the Tyranid's enhanced evolution can outpace their combined creativity. it is only a matter of time before Hydross Venom Blood rules the oceans of Tyran. One shudders to think of what Nurgle's chosen will make from such a cauldron. (This crisis will progress in two turns)
-[X] Salamanders: The conclave has concluded. The Salamanders will accept the Codex Astartes and begin seeding the galaxy with their successors. Of the Legions they were always the most empathetic and self sacrificing when dealing with common humanity. In battle they favor flamers and heavy weaponry often of custom make. Physically they possess great strength and trend large even by the standards of Astartes. Their gene seed is also prone to developing 'stable' mutations when introduced to a new environ. Potentially useful, but potentially harmful if left unchecked.
    [x] Plan: Hit and Run
-[x] Waaagh and Prejudice (Orks, Khorne): Bronze Midir has been blessed with skill and hubris in equal measure. The iconoclast is not content with his own god's displeasure. Instead he seeks to challenge the Twin Gods for the souls of their children. He has made a throne from the corpses of eight Warbosses and raises the banner of eternal war. To him rally Stormboyz, Freebootaz, Gretchin and every Greenskin that values strength above all else. For now the disfavored gathers his strength but soon the Red Waaagh will march for Armageddon. (This Crisis will progress in two turns)
-[x] White Scars: An often underappreciated Legion, the White Scars have served as pathfinders and fast attacks elements across the Crusade and Heresy alike. Less famously their Storm Seers served as one of the backbones of the original Librarian programs. They possess a great well of calm alongside a capacity for sudden and tremendous violence. Such things have earned them a reputation as savages from those who would praise the same from more traditional Astartes.

-[X] Dark Angels: The Lion's get were the original Space Marines and have much to show for it. In terms of battle honors none of the remaining legions can compare nor can they boast such an expensive panoply of ancient technologies. Any successor of theirs can expect expanded access to specialist wargear including the venerable Terminator Armor pattern. Personality wise they tend towards brooding introspection and somewhat caustic demeanors. Their are some worries about how closely they hew to their successor chapters but few dare criticize that most loyal of legions.
    [X] Apex Predator
    [X] Plan: Knights of Shadows
-[X] Of Fate and the Forgotten (Tzeentch, Imperium): 'Outis the Journeyman' seeks The Thousand Sons in the hopes that sharing sorcerous knowledge might break Tzeentch's hold. Meanwhile the Alpha Legion has been spotted across the Segmentum Pacificus laying the groundwork for...something. Whatever the Dark Angels found has proven dire, and The Lion himself now seeks to settle the matter. (This crisis will progress in two turns)

-[X] Raven Guard: The Sons of Corax were never a numerous legion. Thanks to the Alpha Legion's machinations they never will be. Still, there is now enough genestock for you to draw upon. The Raven Guard are the pre eminent stealth and ambush specialists of the legions with an unusually pragmatic mindset despite their high minded ideals.

-[X] Space Wolves: Famous for their many titles including but not limited to, 'The Rout', 'The Emperor's Executioners', 'The Fangs of the Emperor", Sky Warriors, and Vika Fenryka. Their endless boasting is not entirely without merit. Second to the Dark Angels in The Emperor's trust, second to the Blood Angels in a melee, distant second to the scouts of the White Scars...they will serve well. Though their gene stock is noted as being extremely temperamental, they will be smaller in number then their brethren.

(This Crisis will progress in two turns)
    - [X] Imperial Fists: The sons of Dorne. Wardens of the Imperial Palace and masters of siege craft. Despite their losses their stubbornness and wide recruiting base has allowed for them to remain in acceptable number. Due to internal schisms you will have to decide which half of the legion to draw from. The more taciturn and traditional sons or those like Sigismund who embrace rage and zealotry.
    [X] Plan: Mongols vs Egyptians
    - [X] The Stormlord (Necrons): Across the galaxy the ancient Necrontyr have begun to awaken from their tomb complexes. Wielding unthinkable technology and charged with animus against life itself. Imotekh the Stormlord represents the most ambitious and powerful of his kind. Without more knowledge we cannot predict his movements or designs. However a Chapter bearing his title might be sufficient to pique his pride and bring him to the field regardless. (Note: If taken this Chapter's naming options will be limited). (This crisis is currently stalled and will not progress)
    [X] Plan: Rats vs Wolves
    - [X] Triskaidekaphobia (Xenos?, Beastmen?, Chaos): This Xenos(?) empire is currently under watch and containment within the Rho-Dencia system. Each of them is akin to a four foot humanoid rat they appear to be monosexed with an unclear reproductive method. These 'Skaven' possess thirteen habitable worlds. Including no less four Hive Worlds with commiserate populations. A massive industrial base fed from multiple mining and agriworlds and highly advanced (if unstable) Warptech almost certainly looted from the local Dark Age ruins. Thankfully their habits of constant betrayal and scheming have prevented them from using any of their material advantages to move beyond the immediate star. While removing the Skaven would be difficult it would be a great boon in safety and treasure both. (This crisis will progress in ? turns).

Chapter 3 Part 2: Homeworld and Chapter Master

-[X] Salamanders: The conclave has concluded. The Salamanders will accept the Codex Astartes and begin seeding the galaxy with their successors. Of the Legions they were always the most empathetic and self sacrificing when dealing with common humanity. In battle they favor flamers and heavy weaponry often of custom make. Physically they possess great strength and trend large even by the standards of Astartes. Their gene seed is also prone to developing 'stable' mutations when introduced to a new environ. Potentially useful, but potentially harmful if left unchecked.

Looking upon the list of current threats it becomes clear that you are terribly pressed on all sides. Time is of the essence and your efforts will be appreciated wherever you lend them. You briefly consider the Skaven and Stormlord, but they are both contained for now. The Lion should be able to handle the Pacificus situation himself.

That leaves either dealing with Midir and his Orks or Hydross's brewing storm. The former is dangerous but straightforward enough a threat. The latter is...novel. It drawing in the Life Giver indicates that this endeavor has earned Nurgle's attention as well. Imperial surveys deemed the world unremarkable, but there must be something that drew them to these terrible seas.

Observation and prognostics suggests that Hydross and the Rainfather are undertaking vast rituals and experimentations in bridging the gap between the immaterium and real space. Specifically they seem to be experimenting with turning the planet's unique fauna into hosts for daemons and lesser warp entities. While such an act is theoretically impossible they seem confident that they can succeed. Even if that proves beyond them, it is more then likely that these rampant warp energies will create a full blown daemonic incursion within the next few decade. The planet will almost certainly undergo apotheosis into a daemon world within a century afterwards.

Such things cannot be allowed to happen.

The decision of who to send is simple enough. Since the Dark Angels have kindly asked that you not draw them away from their Primarch. It will fall to the Sons of Vulcan to purge these horrors with flame and sword.

Upon informing The War Council of your choice, you were approached by Vulkan. While the Primarch himself will remain on Terra he had recommendations for Chapter Masters well suited to your mission. You are Canto-6, and you know better then to ignore the words of a Primarch.
----------------------------------
Who shall lead them?

[] Char'is Zarr, Keeper of the Count: The use of Destroyer squads amongst the Astartes has a long and shameful history. While the Dark Angels were the foremost each Legion was expected to field units capable of truly erasing the worst of the galaxy's horrors. The Salamanders were no exception to this. Char'is has served centuries as his Legion's foremost expert on the application of such immoral weaponry. Indeed he has written treatise after treatise about their development, applicability and the ethics of their use. Under his leadership the Chapter will learn how to use these weapons to reshape worlds instead of merely destroying them. (Gain Trait Biome Eradication Specialists)

[] Codicier Korr, The Burning Aegis: Despite his long list of battle honors Korr is perhaps more distinguished by his near vestigial psychic strength then anything else. In order to make up for his weakness Korr sought tutelage from the Rune Priests of Fenris. In recompense for his skill and discipline they taught him to craft the runes of purifying flame that adorn his armor and weaponry and enhance his performance. In battle he favors using the strength of the Librarius backed by an armored fist. After all, the greatest strength of humanity is in using each tool to it's fullest potential. (Gain Trait: More Then Flesh)

[] Hercuule Zeon, The Strategos-Huntsman: Despite his reputation for grand heroics Hercuule is not particularly brash or bold. Unlike many brothers in the first company his drake skin wasn't won in grand confrontation. Rather by stalking and tracking a venerable Firedrake turned infirm with age. He spends great effort studying and learning from his foes while planning his strategy. Often favoring infiltration and preparation instead of direct confrontation with a prepared foe. Hercuule believes that wars are won in the time before the first blow is struck. When he takes to the field it is only to finish off his beleaguered foe. (Gain Trait: Preparations for Victory)

----------------------------------

Where shall they be stationed?

[] Fleet Based: The Chapter will have all their facilities held within their Chapter Fleet. Rather then limit themselves to one world they will be granted authority to recruit from any unclaimed world they come across. Such measures provide great freedom, if little direction for a new Chapter.

[] Crusade Fleet: This marine will shun a homeworld so that they can wage war unfettered across the stars. They will be granted an expanded Chapter Fleet and will be granted certain other privileges deemed necessary for their role. Even so, such conditions serve as crucibles. They will earn victory over their foes or they will face extinction.

[] The Caledonian Fleet: The world of Alantea was found relatively early in the Great Crusade and has prospered for it. The world's daughters were able to win glory and wealth abroad while the sons guarded hearth and home from attack. For generations they were favored emissaries of Terra's rule and brought many world's into the Imperial Aegis. With the Crusade's end there are concerns about what to do with those children ill suited for a time of relative peace. In exchange for relieving them of ambitious daughters and unruly sons the Matriarchs of Alantea promise a great armada fit to pursue mankind's enemies across the stars.

[] Crusade Fleet Harrow: Exclusively populated by the remnants of dead world and irrevocable formations this Crusade Fleet is famed for bold action against the enemies of mankind. Deployed to only the worst battlefronts they are expected to serve as vanguard against impossible odds. Their bravery in turn inspires allied units to embrace a style of war defined by constant aggression against the enemies of mankind.. the appearance of this fleet is often considered an ill omen, as it is near exclusively formed from the world's they've visited and regiments that fought alongside them.

[] Gemini-4: A set of colonized asteroid-shipyards in the model of Sol's Jovian Moons. Though they lack the same level of facilities the people of Gemini make up for it with their boldness. Rather then content themselves to scrapyard hulls or the hostile void they capture and repurpose Space Hulks. As such they experts in exploring dangerous or unknown environments and improvising novel solutions.

[] Tenebris Silva: This penal colony serves as an experiment in artificial death worlds. The planet is host to a variety of invasive species from feral orks to giant grox, Venusian man eaters, Nyxian night terrors and the odd Catachan barking toad. Originally the planet was meant to serve as a training ground but casualty rates proved too dire for that to be practical. At Inquisitor Arminius's request it was populated with repentant criminals and now creates some of the Imperium's most reliable solutions to securing truly hostile worlds.

[] Vennia: An ocean world populated with sailors, nobles, and upjumped merchantmen. The nobles of this world believe strongly in a form of public honor. A game of innuendo and wit in which missteps are harshly punished. Challenges for honor or position often result in ritual duels with blade and pistol. If things escalate beyond what mere word and deed may mend? There are always blades in the dark, poisoned wine, and more besides. Honor is your life, guard it well.

[] Ithician: An island world caught in a long and distant orbit from it's star of Penelope. The people of this world suffer under an endless battery of storms above, predations of sea monsters below and a dozen warring city states besides. Still they are clever enough to keep abreast of these threats. Perhaps because an unusual number of them manifest psyker talents, especially in the realm of short term divination.

[] Aidan: A land of harsh mountains, gentle valleys and man eating sheep. The soldiers of Aidan are specialize in orbit to ground operations via drop pod insertion. They are supremely disciplined and known for displays of fierce bravery upon the field. If chosen as a homeworld then the chapter may choose to subordinate the Red Dragon Auxilia or allow them to operate independently.
(Planetary Decision: Raising Dragons)

[] Durga: An endless desert wracked by cold winds and near forgotten by distant Terra. Records of the Great Crusade indicate that this one of the last worlds touched by the Word Bearers before The Burning of Monarchia. While the Astartes never returned the tribes of this world took their words to heart. As such they spend their lives in training and meditation, awaiting the day they are called to serve the Emperor. A harsh world creates a faithful people, ever eager to join the Emperor's side in paradise.
(Planetary Decision: A Place for the Faithful)

[] Jundyr: A rather novel death world. Whereas most are defined by a multipolar assortment of flora, fauna and environmental factors, this one has dragons. That is to say, there are enormous winged reptiles that possess biological plasma reactors and jaws capable of crushing a Leman Russ. Which is near enough for anyone but the most joyless Genetor. The humans of this world rely upon eachother to survive the predators above and make the most of an ill tempered climate.
(Planetary Decision: The Sky Tyrant of Jundyr)

[] Golgotha Minor: A feudal world of loping hills and swampish valleys. The human population is now openly enslaved by a race of cowardly Xenos Psykers. Prove to them that their warp sorceries and magics are nothing against the strength of mankind. Liberating the planet would be a suitable inauguration for the new Chapter and a small victory against the horrors that infest the galaxy. (Planetary decision: The Lessons of Long Night)
===========

Going to try something new in regards to the fleet options. Now you'll get a generic variant which will have it's culture purely based upon your mix of Chapter, Chapter Master and Crisis. Then there's the unique ones that bear influence from a planet and or an already extant formation that you'll be repurposing or joining.

Touched up a few world descriptions but the basics are all the same.

As always, Feedback, questions, comments and the like are welcome.
