The Chaos God's Sacred Numbers
When dealing with the Chaos Gods you should always beware the numbers Four, Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine. Respectively the Sacred Numbers of Chaos Undivided, Slannesh, Nurgle, Khorne and Tzeentch respectively.

Rolling their number when they're already involved invites them to intervene and make the situation dramatically worse.

Rolling doubles let's them put a thumb on the scale but they won't be able to turn a success into an outright failure. More often then not this is them recouping losses or making sure you target one of their disfavored. If they've already acted or are disinterested then they can choose to abstain entirely.

Bit confused on something. If a 77 rolls does that nurgle intervenes or he doesn't?

In this situation Nurgle abstained both times. First because the duo had nothing to show for their efforts (yet). The second because your killing Typhus helped him to embrace daemonhood.

Nurgle loves his chosen but he believes in tough love. If Typhus got true death immediately then that's on him.

Making Typhus a demon prince is still arguably a win. Sure, he gets a ton of personal power, but he can't act in the materium anymore unless someone goes to great lengths to summon him.

There were already plenty of Nurgle demon princes, one more is not a huge change. But Nurgle now has one LESS mortal champion, and arguably his greatest. If we kill enough of those, he loses the ability to act in the mortal plane.

Wow. Just wow. This right up is going to be awesome.

I think we've created another version of the Lamenters.

I can just imagine it the World Serpents and Crusade Fleet Harrow going from heroic tragedy to heroic tragedy but stubbornly not dying. With occasional actual wins. But overall a grindingly grim history of perseverance and defiance.

Dear god did the World Serpents get several beatdowns over the years that I don't think the Burning Hands history could compare. It's nice that they were able to deliver a nice special delivery to the God of Decay once the latter decided that the planet was enough of a shithole he was going to convert it into a Daemon World. I wonder what went on with the Redemption Crusades and From Hell's Heart?

It really feels like Crusade Fleet Harrow with their commanding Space Marine Chapter is going to become known as 'those guys that, if they turn up, either Nurgle is involved or will become involved and no matter what you are going to be glad that the environment needs purging and reterraforming afterwards... Oh wait, maybe it's just the (endless) tides of bugs instead! The note about the environment still stands.'

The immediate fall from "we were perfectly designed to smite this foe" to "Casualties are 90% and climbing, SEND HELP!" is a tragedy.

It's even worse because through all their struggles and failures against Nurgle, they must have comforted themselves with the thought that they at least wiped out those voracious and adapting xenos.

Only to hear chittering noises about five seconds before getting turbo-stomped by Tyrannids 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Probably Arrogance, a common flaw, but it sounds like this was the 'first,' Tyrannid,' War. The one where the Marines were due to be humbled anyway.

It is the first Tyranid War. With the caveat that the Imperium had just enough knowledge to be a lot more cautious. They took some very reasonable precautions here, hence The World Serpents being involved.

Unfortunately no one could reasonably be prepared for The Tyranids.

I wonder what went on with the Redemption Crusades and From Hell's Heart?

Penitent Crusades are some of the most brutal fighting a Space Marine Chapter will ever face. They needed to prove their loyalty by defeating the foes of mankind while being denied resupply and recruitment. One can imagine how that went here.

For Hell's Heart, l'll give you a hint. It (and the roll after it) are both references to Moby Dick. One is straightforward, the other is a bit prosaic.
