Honey — chickenbouillon
Honey: by chickenbouillon
TRIGGER WARNING FOR BODY HORROR.
When I was nineteen, I moved out of my house to get a fresh start, without the burden of my helicopter parents constantly hovering over me to ensure everything I did was the way they wanted. I was freshly in college, and had managed to save up enough money from my part time job to secure a spot at a cozy little apartment in the Uni District.

As soon as I arrived there, I unpacked, set aside my things, and prepared a bunch of snacks to greet my neighbors with. It all went well, until I got to room 432. The room right next to mine. I opened the door, and a pale, gangly woman greeted me. There was.. something odd about her. Something that made my hackles rise. Nonetheless, I greeted her politely and tried my best to remain civil.

What creeped me the hell out was her reaction, she paused for a few moments and simply stared at me. As if she'd forgotten how to react. Then her face twisted into a smile, in this fake.. artificial way that reminds me of those shitty TV commercials you see late at night. She thanked me, and grabbed my fruitcake from my hands, saying something about it being "worthy sustenance" and shut the door on my face.

Okay, first of all: rude. Second of all: She looked really creepy, so I didn't particularly mind it as much as I should. You might call me a bitch for judging people so harshly based on their appearance and demeanour alone, but you need to understand: something about her was just.. off.

Anyway, I thought nothing about it at that moment. Sure, she was a creep, but I've had creepy neighbors before and there turned out to be mundane explanations for their behavior. I thought this one will be no different.

I wish I could go back in time and punch myself, because I was very, very wrong.

Several weeks passed, and I'd put aside my memories of that slightly disconcerting encounter. I quietly went about my life as usual, and didn't pay attention to my neighbours. I studied, worked, and performed my responsibilities satisfactorily. You know, as every college student should.

The woman and her equally odd husband constantly hovered next to my door, but I didn't care. I didn't want anything to do with them, and they didn't want anything to do with me. I never even bothered trying to learn their names.

It was a shock to me, when I discovered that they had a little girl. She was standing outside the door, clad in a yellow dress and holding a teddy bear. She had ratty brown hair, and looked ten at most. I asked her what she was doing outside, and she told me that she just didn't feel like going inside at the moment.

What worried me the most was how.. thin she was. Borderline skeletal in fact. Her parents were thin as well, but not to this point. I've always had a soft spot for children, so I offered her candy, and asked her if her parents were treating her alright.

She stared at me for a long moment, and then she gently took the candy from my palms and assured me that her parents were treating her well. "They have no choice." She said. I didn't think much about that statement, and I curse myself every night for it.

Eventually, things came to a boil. Me and that little girl became friends. I learned that her name was Cara. (She wouldn't give me her full name. She'd just stay quiet every-time I asked) Cara was.. bright, she knew things no kid should, and she was.. odd. But I chalked it up to her weird parents. I was about to call social services on them a few times, but she always stopped me, and each time she would tell me that she was fine. Still, I worried about that girl. That mousy, skeletal little thing who'd clasped my hand so gently and held conversations with me.

One day, my life changed because of her.

I still wish it didn't to this day.

On an uneventful evening, Cara told me something peculiar: "I like you a lot." She said, and I had felt.. pleased. She barely emoted, and that simple acknowledgement had felt precious to me. I was finally making progress with this child! Cara told me that she had a gift for me, but I had to come inside of her house.

I honestly didn't want to. Her parents were fucking weird and the area around their door smelled.. odd, like this sickly sweet scent that reminded me vaguely of honey, but I felt like this little girl was different from her parents. She wouldn't harm me. So like a fool, I entered.

I immediately regretted my decision.

Strange yellow growths grew on the walls of that apartment, reminding me vaguely of a beehive. It was sticky and had a texture similar to honey when I poked it. Immediately, I knew that something was very wrong here, but when I turned back to leave, she had already locked the door shut behind me.

She stood there, with this odd little smirk on her face that made me shiver.

I went inside. I felt like I had no choice. She wasn't gonna let me out, I just knew it.

When I was inside, it was even worse. The weird growths were everywhere. They smelled awful. Sort of like a mixture between a floral scent and a pile of roadkill. I opened the door of what I assumed to be the bedroom, and there was Cara's mother. She was hunched over the floor.. and..

There was something poking out from under her skin. It was inside her skin, but also close enough to be visible. I realized in dim horror that it was bee. A bee was under her skin, just above her spine. It's black stinger was like a needle.

I backed away in horror, when I crashed into something. It was her father. Before I could do anything, he pinned me to the wall and restrained me with a single arm. I screamed, but he clasped his other hand tightly around my mouth and stuck his fingers down my throat. I tasted something sickly sweet and sticky, and bile rose in my throat.

Something in the back of his neck was pulsing too. I didn't know see it, but I know what it was. He was thin, but at that moment he was so strong, ungodly strong. Strong enough that I couldn't fight back. Cara walked from behind her father, giggling. "You shouldn't fight back." She said. "It'll be less painful that way."

I knew then. I understood. Cara wasn't some victim, locked inside and starved by her parents. She was.. their queen. She ruled over them. She controlled them. There was nothing in her father's eyes. They were empty eyes. It was like looking inside a vacant home.

Cara reached out, and clasped tightly in her fingers.. was a bee.

I screamed, but there was honey in my throat and his fingers were still lodged inside me and oh god I needed them out right now. So I did the only thing I could: I bit down. His grip was still terrifyingly strong, but I managed to kick him hard enough to loosen it. And I ran. I ran all the way to the door and unlatched the lock. Cara was screaming at her dad, and I could hear him start after me, but I was outside and I was free.

I left, obviously. I didn't bother packing up. I just ran away from that apartment, screaming like a madwoman. I ran all the way back home to my parents, with nothing but my clothes and shoes and promised them that I would never leave again.

Sometimes.. I still dream of honey.

So please, if anyone is reading this, please burn that fucking apartment to the ground. I'll even give you the address. I'll pay you anything you want. Just please kill Cara. Kill that girl.

Please.

Honestly a good idea. You get a week break, and we spend that entire week strangling ourselves over AP allocations. :V

Not really, since we have to do these missions:
  • Train Kept a Rollin' (2 AP, HIT 6, REPUTATION 8, OPERATIONS 9)
  • Puella Magi Justice Unlimited Magica (2 AP)
  • Reality Check (1 AP)
  • Smoke on the Water (1 AP, ESPIONAGE 4, OPERATIONS 4)
We have only 3AP to argue over.

I mean, like StarBlue said, we still have 3 leftover AP, not to mention the Global and personal, which I imagine is gonna be the center of our arguments.

Honestly, its closer to 2.5 AP considering everyone wants to finish OID control, its just a question of doing Abarimon or Third Person for it given Shroud's delay.

Global AP will probably be fighting over 7-8 choices for 6 slots with it mostly coming down to people's personal pet pick preferences. The money infusion and Ibis slush fund helps a lot on that front but its still not perfect. Its probably something like the below for the relative pool?

Expansion due to cap but ND mitigates it for now, Spider Web for info, Shields for safety, Community Center (Rep) due to Shelley and Soraia wanting it and the Acid Rain mine scare, LL boosting due to the author repeatedly telling us to get it and prepping for the Fellowship though it'd only apply for half this turn, Merchandising to extend the 2.5k a turn income to ???, ADHD for lootbox, Glass Menagerie for Maddie improvement, and maybe the motorcycle for Ellie depending how that turns out?

For example I'm relatively comfortable with my core but for example I could see people not wanting to start LL to only get the initial benefits for half a turn ignoring LA's stuff or delaying any expansion due to the ND 4 new slots providing space and to potentially save money, etc. Since I know people are a bit blinded by likely having 12.5k money in the bank next turn and a sponsorship likely on the way, but given research wants + Prom + Spoonfuls I'd be shocked if we don't spend 6-7k just on the Slush Fund before we get into any of the other money costing globals.

Personals... We'll wait and see but surely they can't be that contentious.

I remain firm in the idea of empowering Song. If we had the global actions to spare, I'd be fine with digging through Nora's lab, but I'm not sure we will.

As a experiment, I decided to see if it's possible to make a Bullet Proof build without relying on Clairvoyance or True Telepathy to overcome the original's limitations, and then I realized Construct Creation was one way to do so if it could be finagled to create drone cameras networked with a HUD. However, that steps on MW's toes and I don't want to repeat superpowers.

Instead, I ended up making Tomoe Mami from PMMM and her WALL OF GUNS. :p

Muzzle Flash
  • Potency 5 (Bullet Proof) + Potency 4 (Tenebrism) + Potency 3 (Dragonsteeth) + Potency 1 (Mister Hunch) = Potency 13
    • 1x Teleportation (Bullet Proof)
      • Bullet Proof can teleport projectiles through phones and TV screens that broadcast a livefeed.
    • 1x Intangability (Bullet Proof)
      • Bullet Proof's attacks are able to phase through objects and material that would normally repel them.
    • SYNERGY: [Battle Precognition]
      • 1x Enhanced Strength (Tenebrism)
        • Tenebrism and her shadow clones had superhuman strength.
      • 1x Enhanced Senses (Bullet Proof)
        • Bullet Proof had superhuman aim.
      • 1x Clairvoyance (Mister Hunch)
        • Mister Hunch peer into events that occured around a 5 foot radius and within the last 24 hours of any object he touches.
    • 2x Construct Creation (Tenebrism, Dragonsteeth)
      • Tenebrism can create 4 shadow clones that mimic her movements with a delay.
      • By seeding the ground with energy, Dragonsteeth can slowly create constructs made out of solid light. These constructs take limited orders from her, and can come in any form, but she's limited to making either one incredibly strong construct or multiple weaker ones.
    • 2x Energy Manipulation (Tenebrism, Dragonsteeth)
      • Tenebrism's shadow clones are produced by using the shadows created by light.
      • Dragonsteeth's constructs are created via seeding the ground with energy. She has a limited pool of energy for doing so.
    • 1x Solar Absorption (Tenebrism)
      • Tenebrism's shadow clones are at their strongest, largest, and most durable during the day where ambient light is at its peak.
Tenebrism and Dragonsteeth are interesting in that they have a light-and-dark theme going on. Dragonsteeth's constructs are made of hard-light, which creates shadows for Tenebrism to make clones of. This means that for every hard-light construct made, a shadow construct follows. We're not here to make a horde of minions, however. Instead, we solve Dragonsteeth's issues with limited energy by creating a feedback loop where each hardlight gun produces its own shadow ammunition via the muzzle flash they create. This is essentially a unlimited ammo hack straight out of a video game! Additionally, Tenebrism's shadow clones get stronger the more light there is, which also helps with the feedback loop!

Not only that, but Bullet Proof's projectile teleportation changes its conditions from screens and a livefeed to allowing her intangible shots to teleport through shadows, including those produced in the brief moments where a gun's trigger is pulled! Battle Precognition meanwhile ensures that the chance to hit is maximized in this chaotic environment since the bullet with our enemies' names on it can come from any shadow around them, and this effect can be repeated again and again thanks to Battle Precognition guiding the "ricochet"!

Depending on the amount of light and shadow in the field, and there will always be a lot of it thanks to Dragonsteeth's hardlight constructs, it's entirely possible that one bullet that passes through a shadow suddenly becomes multiple bullets each coming out from different shadows!

If we're going to be beating people that can mess and manipulate with probability, which our enemies seem to have a lot of, then a power that can say "I have filled the air around you with bullets to give you a 0% chance of survival" seems like the perfect counter.

As a side note, Muzzle Flash likely has the choice of entering a fight with an entire infantry company's worth of floating guns they control, or bring her equivalent of a Anti-Material Rifle to deal with people who have exceptional physical Invulnerability. I imagine the ability of Bullet Proof's Intangible shots to pierce through Invincible metahumans inversely scale to the number of guns she's using in that moment. The former is great against massive numbers, exteremely mobile targets, or probabilty manipulating foes, while the latter is for dealing with invulnerability bricks.

This is a really cool build and I think a good fit for Cain. Bullet Proof feels a little hard to work with because of our overall lack of projectile metahumans, and you managed to cover that with other stuff really well. I'd probably be down with voting for this.

Thanks! I'm really happy with how Muzzle Flash turned out. It's my favorite out of all the Bullet Proof builds I've presented so far since none of its keywords will drop and all the DNA Profiles neatly cover each other's limitations and weaknesses while also reinterpreting the powerset into its own thing instead of just being straight upgrades to the original.

Holy shit, Touhou build!

Although even without empowering we've like, doubled our roster between Belle Sabreuse, Yara and Katie, and New Dawn.
Yeah, once the next mission-vote comes up, it will sink in for me that we actually just grew way bigger. Did we even need the Project? Well, it did make that first Behemoth fight a lot easier...

Hey, Bitterman, I had a thought for how the training portion of the PA rework could go:

Training Season
The rookies need to develop their skills. Let's do a joint session.
Select up to 3 heroes and a stat. All three heroes will train it. Rookies get a free +1 if they have not trained it before, otherwise, a check will need to be passed.

A global action to train people in groups while cutting down on the writing by letting you make it one group scene with a specific focus.
