You know, I like we didn't include red at all with EXCEED-BEYOND's color.

If we did, it would be the narrative acknowledging that Gold and Justice are rivals or counter parts.

But Valiant Justice isn't that. He isn't Ellie's rival or counterpart or sworn enemy.

He's a thief.

He stole parts of EXCEED, he stole the title of Valiant, he's attempting to strong arm our organization into giving up Project Prometheus.

He isn't worthy of that dichotomy, and Ellie shouldn't have that applied to her.

For she is a true successor, and Justice is only an imitation, a thief, of a legacy.

At least that's how I see it

"But I didn't ask to meet in order to lecture you. I need to discuss the situation in the NID. No doubt you've heard about Crusades actions this morning?"
*Crusade's
"Yeaaah,I guess you're right," he sighs, "It's depressing as all get out, but you're right."
Add a space after the first comma.
"Awesome," one girl says, grabbing a screen, "It's been so boring here! I gotta check my Hero for Hire DMs! Wow, My Dad is Lawyer, My Mom is the Demon Lord, and I'm Not Sure Who's More Evil! has nine new updates?! Sweetwoman needs a life."
*is a Lawyer
"What. Is. Your. Problem?," Ellie says through gritted teeth.
Drop the comma.
"She only doubles down," you agree, "She'll take a hint eventually when Ellie—was that a transformation sequence? Wow, can she move fast in that armor."
I think the "can" shouldn't be italicized.
You eye the big boxes of dominos you spotted earlier. A predatory gleam flashes in your eyes, born of the yearly cutthroat Christmas competition in your home.

"Ever play . . . Mexican Train?"
I just wanted to share that when I first read this I somehow read "dominos" as "donuts" and literally went to google how tf you play Mexican Train with donuts before coming back and realizing my inexplicable error.

Also, *dominoes
Mr. Rhys and Ellie walk around the corner carrying tennis rackets. Mr. Rhys is in his human form, while Ellie is wearing a tennis skirt and tank top. Her body shines with a thin layer of sweat. You see Mona's eyes dilate as she stares slack-jawed and flies directly into a wall.
This got an audible pfft from me lmfaoooooooooooooooo

Actually, I want to add more to this.

Fundamentally, because we know what Stockpile thinks Nora was doing with EXCEED or her experiments, we know for a damn fact that he can't enter the Stage.

And if I remember right, correct me if I'm wrong, when the armor activates Dynamite mode it gets the powers of all three other modules right?

So that comparison for Stockpile and Gold?

Fuck Stockpile, Valiant Gold is Dante and Vergil together and their just wearing a Vergil cosplay!

Ellie has mode changes AND single more powerful form! Stockpile is narratively a literal faker!

The funny thing is that they could probably get farther using Project Prometheus. Like, we're pretty sure it has nothing to do with the Awakening, but, "Clearly their plan to use Goldnine to make Ambrosia did something" is honestly a much more coherent explanation?

The funniest thing about this to me is that Bitter's the one who made the comparison right? So by extension Stockpile would go be all during a fight:
"Valiant Silver, you've at least proven yourself to match me! But I swear to you my counterpart, you will fall!"

And we the thread and by extension Ellie, respond with:
"Counterpart? Buddy your my Metal Sonic, a pale imitation created by some scientists to act as a roadblock for me and my team. And do you know what happens to Metal Sonic?

"He gets scrapped!"

Edit:

Also this friend gets it, and proves another reason not to give Crusade and their masters what they want

No we get reality warping (probably). It also wrecks the armor for awhile, to the point it needs to get fixed between missions.

I'd advise not underestimating Stockpile: he can't Open the Stage but PREVAIL likely has more than one trick up its sleeve.

I'm guessing PREVAIL is more powerful individually than any of the modules bar Dynamite ? And it can use lesser versions of the finishers EXCEED-BEYOND has.

Stockpile's specialty should also be adding some new tricks to it.

Thank you, I looked back at the first fill in issue and glimpsed through it- the whole "Activating Rock" thing Nora did gave me that impression she could use all three other modules while in Dynamite.

The woes of binging through a quest hehe

Global Stat Modifiers: +1 HIT, -5 REPUTATION, +1 ESPIONAGE, +1 OPERATIONS

+1 to Justice Unlimited's REPUTATION!
Shouldn't it be a -4 modifier ?
All the while there is a constant, low, droning note of a blind idiot god. A child could age from infancy to elderly age in the time it took to speak one syllable. Smaller and quieter, but just as distinct is the cry of a betrayed mother drifting from an unending imprisonment. There is a quick flash of a curious new life that is also somehow ancient looking at you, before it turns its gaze away. Finally, there is a gurgling of fetid meat amused by its own majesty. You've heard it before.

…ok, number one could be Woman in Blue, but I'm iffy on that.

Maybe number two is Leviathan? It's the most ancient thing we know of. As for the "curious new life" part… maybe it's some sort of alien reincarnation cycle thing?
This is the whole thing. Nora was also speaking with the Woman in Blue right before this scene.

I've decided we should have more Tumblr-esque headcanons. They're good for fandom ecosystems.

So without much further ado, I present to you.

Defiance Unit Headcanons

-Crimson Soprano/Bidu was scouted for a scholarship in operatic theatre at a young age, which she worked tirelessly for to be able to live a comfortable life and provide for her family. As the years went by, she became very much disenchanted by the performing world and how awful a lot of the people in it were, and eventually got seriously ill from overwork to the point of being hospitalized. The damage it did to her nascent career and the mounting cost of her hospital bills served to radicalize her, and she discovered her powers shortly after.
-Bidu was a bit of a foodie, and especially liked to collect different types of tea. She had hundreds by the time of her death.
-Zeno was basically the stereotypical newspaper-selling Troskyite. He was also kind of a theory nerd and had a habit of going on long-winded speeches full of words most people didn't understand. He was a fairly pleasant person to be around with though, if a bit spacey at times.
-Memoria used to have six photographs instead of five. The one he took of the Frozen Throne turned into ice and became forever unusable.
-Soldier X was the oldest member of the Unit by at least a decade. The rest were about NewGen's age.
-Marcos's sense of dress was legendarily bad, and Bidu used to beg him with tears in her eyes not to go around in the worst outfits you can imagine. It never worked. He missed that a lot after her death.
-Zeno started going around shirtless while testing his powers, and never stopped because he thought putting on a T-shirt in the mornings was too much bother.
-Soldier X did in fact have a name, it's just that only the rest of the Defiance Unit knew about it.
-Soldier X had led a very, very harsh life before arriving in Horizon, and was pretty much the "grizzled veteran in a team of younger, more idealistic people" you see with Wolverine and other characters in that vein. It took her awhile to warm up to the others. She also had to deal with the others regularly deciding they were going to do their own thing and not following orders.
-Marcos and Gaspard were dating. I'm a sucker for tragic love stories and I think it would be interesting as a relationship.
-Gaspard had white hair/eyes/skin from the Frozen Throne's effects. He was also part of a book club and they were the one to convince him to dress up as a vampire.
-Gaspard didn't really get along with anyone outside of the Defiance Unit, Memoria's family and his book club, and had a habit of assuming the worst from anyone and going KILL KILL KILL upon seeing any potential threat. Chalk that up to spending his formative years inside one of the most nightmarish places in existence, plus the fact that he was deliberately abandoned there.
-Marcos's sister was killed during the hunt for the Defiance Unit, with her bar being destroyed.
(Please don't threadmark this these are random thoughts mostly unsupported by canon)

Aside from needing to reverse engineer cures from poisonous Behemoths like Mendicant did, is there an industry involving reusing their parts or studying their abilities? Did Nora's research involve them at all?

Hm. I don't think that's Valkyrie or Lantern.
We're pretty sure the first is indeed Valkyrie, and the second is probably Lantern:
Why was it waking up? It had loomed over the City of Horizon, dead, for nearly fifty years. Yet now even his children could hear its silent screams in their minds. Four voices. One unfathomably large and low; a crushing pressure who would erase them all without noticing. Another, high and sweet and full of rage. A third, deluded and cunning, begging for all, unearned. A fourth, confused and hurt and trying to still troubled waters the way you smoothed out wrinkles on a sheet.
The opening post.
"But there are four voices louder than everyone else. One is the Leviathan. It's not alive—at least, not alive like we are—but it sings all the same, low, deep, and meaningless. There's another voice, sweet and wrathful. It's coming from Wonderland. From the most powerful psychic in the world."

You don't breathe. Valkyrie?

"There are two more voices, but I can't make them out. They shift and hide and, if I'm being honest, are disgusting. One's like a wax figure of a man that's melted. The other's like if you tried to remake a figure of a person out of the melted wax. But they're getting lounder. And so is the Leviathan."
Nora's video will.
"You haven't found them, have you? Those who I told you to seek. The rotting-corpse of a man and the child-who-never was?"
The Lady in Blues statement.

There's enough evidence to say the betrayed mother is Valkyrie. For the other one, we pretty sure it's Lantern the voyeur, but I'm open to it being a red herring.

Incidentally, another of my theories: Jacob's Ladder is a giant psychic amplifier and/or condensor, either intentionally on Osanyins part for some unknown purpose or through other parties secretly altering it for their own goals. That's why Valkyrie was so much stronger then anyone thought: it's completion allowed her power to reach new heights.

Relatedly, Elysium isn't just an ultra-exclusive place far away from the plebs and the Horae Guard aren't just strong Metahumans recruited and lucky Elysium natives. Being up there slowly strengthens Metahumans, and being born up there enhances both the odds of being born a Metahuman and the strength of their power if they are. It's the rich of the world slowly trying to become the most powerful, militarily as well.

I have a theory of my own, combining whatever was using Nora during Kintsugi and the rewards for Wider Than A Mile.

Valkyrie was driven insane by an outside force, Hand being my best guess, but after she was locked into Wonderland, it forgot her.

When Cisma and Steelheart died and the locks broke, she escaped quietly, with time away to reflect on her actions, somehow covertly contacted King, and both apologized and offered some information, and now they're working together to track his quarry, whatever it is.

Inter color perhaps

Y'know, you could be onto something. And while we're on that note…

Vocabulary.com says that
"An interlocutor is someone who participates in a discussion or conversation, sometimes as a go-between. If you and your friend are in an argument and aren't speaking, a third friend could act as an interlocutor, delivering messages back and forth."

Perhaps the Interlocutor is like an evil version of that— it sends messages and intentions from both the Leviathan and the Frozen Stage over to us, humanity. It's simply the go-between, transferring all the eldritch things from the faraway Stage to people like Yellow Qilin or Valkyrie.
