I can tell you for a fact that Queer was being used well before 2016. Went to school with a literal neo-nazi back in the early 2000s who liked to throw that one around. Prick liked going after a friend of mine which...

Mr.Neo-Nazi had black hair and brown eyes. My buddy was on the bigger side but he had straw-blond hair and greenish-blue eyes.

Never made any sense to the rest of us, being completely honest. We figured he was just a hateful asshole who found a 'cause' he could get behind.

Heard he's been married and divorced after high school and hasn't gotten any better.
I worded myself wrongly. As you said yourself, it was mostly used as an insult, so it makes even less sense for someone who respects a gay guy to use it back then to describe him.
As for that neo from your story, neos aren't smart. Never were, never will be. Not a big surprise.

Allow me to clarify myself.
It was being used at least back in the 90s.
It was being used in pride marches, as a self-descriptive, at least back in the 90's

He probably could get paid for investing in Lady Liberty, the skill list no size limit and with 6% repair he has her whole again in no time.

The statue is neither pricey material wise or Work wise, they probaly decide that it half Destroy was supposed to be a monument for the attack, which put everyone on a permanently bad mood

A dumb Idea, Its the cheapest and most important thing to fix in all of NYC

Chapter 10: Tick Tock

-----

Alec... did not make it to the bus tour. The last slot started at 14:00 and would have ended at 19:30. He'd checked in to the motel at a bit after 13:00. Just getting from the motel to the office that the pamphlet outlined took the better part of an hour.

The man huffed quietly, his hands in his jacket pocket. His left hand rubbed the receipt he'd purchased for tomorrow's earliest tour but that still left him with nothing scheduled for today.

His right hand rubbed over his multi-tool as another charge sank into it.

It was easy for him to forget about needing to do that. Especially if he was busy with literally anything else.

Unfortunately, the PokeMon franchise on Earth Bet died with the sinking of Kyushu and, likely due to Behemoth, the PokeMon center had never been built in New York. Most of the other landmarks were gone and the few that remained were...

Well, Lady Liberty didn't shine over New York. Not anymore. The Trade Towers had toppled, their remains were still fenced off. Central Park was a memorial to those lost back in the Behemoth attack of '94...

Alec had read about some of those. The others were included as part of the drop-in experience.

The Gamer looked across the ocean east of New York, to the ruined remains where people had just... given up.

New York, the Big Apple... wasn't so big anymore. The world was shrinking, a little bit every three months as the Endbringers attacked. And what was left was rotting as mentally unstable people with superpowers were squabbling over the remains, often destroying anything they couldn't have. People that were actively discouraged from doing anything constructive with their powers with the threat of fines and imprisonment by the NEPEA-5 laws.

Laws he couldn't even fully argue against, given the fact that objects that were repaired or created by Parahumans had a tendency of breaking down in strange and unpredictable ways.

Alec closed his eyes and leaned forward on a rail next to the road, overlooking the troubled waters.

Earth Bet was a petri dish. An experiment in seeing how fast the world would burn down if literally everything that could go wrong, did.

He could sink to that level. Cast off the calm and quiet, methodical approach he was attempting.

Even now, he was getting a trickle of experience and cash from time to time as his plexiglass rat traps, spread around different parts of Brockton Bay, captured vermin. He'd baited them with poisoned food and the rats, last he'd checked, were eating each other and dying from the poison that initially killed the first detainees. It was disgusting and messy but it was improving his trapping skill, which made the traps he'd already placed more effective, which drew in more vermin which was increasing his trapping skill.

...He wasn't looking forward to seeing how full those would be by the time he got back.

He could sink to the level of the local Parahumans. Shuck off his morality and pick a convenient target to hunt down to harvest their powers. He needed health regeneration and hunting down Aegis, a teenager in the Wards of Brockton Bay, would have likely offered something to that effect without being unduly difficult. He needed defensive options and, so far as he knew, nobody in New Wave was immune to a little mix of Bleach and Ammonia.

And then what?

Alec... didn't want to rack up enough enemies that he'd run the risk of being swarmed at any given moment. He certainly didn't want to work up a reputation like Silar from Heroes, a sociopath with a hunger for powers.

Well, in this world they'd probably refer to Glaistig Uaine. Still, regardless of the passing accuracy, it was unflattering and troublesome in the extreme.

He wanted to make things better. He always wanted to try and make things better. Killing Nazis and rage dragons and other, worse things would contribute to that...

But it wouldn't balance the scales. There was too much downward momentum to just 'stop' it. It'd be worse than making a play at being Sisyphus with his boulder.

Alec's depressing ruminations were interrupted by the shuffling of his menu as people with powers entered and exited his range-

Metallokinesis 1/20: Control metals within your line of sight. Fine control is based on Dexterity while overall speed is based on Agility. Type and amount increases with level (Level 1: Iron, 1 Kg) Cost: 5 SP per Second

Phantom Force (Upgrade): Add special functionality to Phantom Force; When Phantoms overlay self, improve all attributes by 10% times the number of overlaying Phantoms

ACCESS DENIED 1/20: ACCESS DENIED

Pattern of Perfection 1/20: Become aware of better methods of arranging components to improve machine functionality.

Blaster Master 1/20: Fire special lasers and arc them around objects to ensure they can hit their targets! Higher levels allow for greater laser effects! (Level 1: Kinetic) Cost: 5 SP

Pierce 1/20: Imbue a weapon with the ability to cleave through defenses! Negate 5% of defense per level. Increase inflicted damage by 5% per level. Duration: 30 Seconds per level. Cost: 10 SP

-Alec knew exactly which one he wanted. Reaching out, he selected ACCESS DENIED and breathed a sigh of relief as the power settled into him.

It wasn't perfect; it'd take a while to get there. But at least it was a tool in his own toolbox, now.

Feeling better about things, Alec slipped his phone out of his pocket and awkwardly sent a text using the number pad.

Upsilon: I owe you a drink. Let me know if you're free to meet up.
...
2601: Meet me in Dave's Pub in Harlem after 8.

Alec slipped his phone back into his pocket. He didn't know how, not yet, but so long as he kept making progress? He'd get things figured out.

He just had to take it one day at a time.

this is exactly why a lot of Worm fics aren't for me, unless you're pretty much a god and already attached to people there, why would you ever want to stay. It just makes no sense to me.

...I'm confused about what "ACCESS DENIED 1/20: ACCESS DENIED" refers or implies in this context.

On the back end of how powers work in Worm, especially Thinker, Trump and Master powers, it's all communication between the Shards. There's a hierarchy of sorts, with some Shards overriding others completely whilst others are more situational.

Such as Hatchetface. His power basically told the other Shards that 'You're not allowed to actually work within a certain range of my power' and the other Shards would pull back within that range, giving the impression that Hatchetface had 'Nullified' their powers.

Mantellum's power, aside from the horrific mutations, made him directly immune to Thinkers and Masters. Even Contessa's Path to Victory didn't work on him, couldn't path around him.

On the Shard side of things, what this means is that Mantellum's power is telling other powers 'Access denied: administrator access only'.

Why is he at 28/100 HP?

The poison he used to kill the Nazis removed 90% of his own HP and the base regen rate is Vitality X Level overnight. So he's only regenerated 18 HP since the dinner party.

Which was why he was thinking on parahumans he could beat for HP regen.

So wait, doesn't he need to defeat someone to gain their powers? Did the anti thinker guy just knock himself out and somehow gave the credit to Alec?

And how many people from outside those circles were using it that way, instead of using it as an insult? And I doubt she's from those circles, cos if she was, she wouldn't panic like that.
I think it's time to drop that. Ficser won't change those lines, so there's no point in making a massive derail.

You forgot to put ":" in between the numbers. 14:00, 19:30, 13:00.

Every five levels, Alec gets a 'free' point that he can use to pick up someone else's power, if they're within range (20 km).

In theory, it offers a gamer an alternative method of gaining a power that they would otherwise find unattainable through normal means, and it offers them an alternative means of progression if they're not of a mindset that can really do combat.

Among other potentially viable uses, it would have been something worthwhile to hold on to until Alec could make his way to Houston, TX to try and snag Eidolon's power, or else go even further out to Los Angeles to try and get Alexandria's power. Or at least whatever variation of it his system would offer up.

Here he had a shot at grabbing Legend's Master Blaster power but passed over it to grab Mantellum's instead.

Legend's is easy to get, since he has a headquarters that he's at a good portion of the time.

Who knows where Mantellum will be at any given moment?

Is he planning on meeting with Mantellum? Why else would Mantellum tell Al where he is?

Alec: Dude, dude, dude. Do you, like, have any idea how much you could do with your power?

Mantellum: Swim in the ocean? Eat fish? Kill Australians?

Alec: No- well, yes. But no! Thinkers can't think about you, man! You'd be the perfect Master bait!

Mantellum: Did you seriously just say-

Alec: Think about it! Just... just think about it! You could just walk on up to Heartbreaker and be all like 'I'm gonna stab you now' and he'd be all like 'Now, why would my best friend do that, buddy?' and you could be all, like, 'I'm not your buddy, pal' when you stab him in the eye!

Mantellum: ...I don't think my power can do that?

Alec: No, no, like... trust me! It can totally do that! You could be a hero, y'know?

Mantellum: ...How much have you had to drink?

Alec: I'm still alive inside the Wormverse, so obviously not enough!

Isn't 'Pierce' Flechette's power? Would also be nice for Alchemist to secure that as a 'nice to know' power and a combat one that he can apply to his augmented guns. The wording of the ability is kinda of bonkers. No qualifications on any limits to its attack capability, just straight ignoring 5% of Defenses/level.

Also, I am surprised he has not managed to call upon Dee yet. He may be leery of pulling resurrection out of his ass due to his respect for her, the natural order it, and the threat of Zion/Network learning about, but having a kind word and a friendly face will help Alec alot.

Despite being upset with Terra-tan for stuffing him in this crapsack, he's still trying to play along with the whole "test out this new system" thing - it's why he hasn't just gone full Void Dragon and eaten Scion.
Yeah, him using Magic is understandable, but he does not need overt grand displays of true Reality Warping in front of observers/parahumans to get Death's attention. I assume Alchemist here is taken from an iteration where he has a solid and working relationship with Death. If nothing else, he can use that to ask Death if she be willing to just send word to Al's family in DC that he is alright and is already cheesing the system.

Alchemist: Escalated harder than the Queen of Escalation. A True Gamer, through and through.

i wonder if Al is going to use some of the powers for more mundane things?
Crusaders ghosts to carry stuff, Fletchettes power to help with cooking, e.t.c?

Al also respects Dee's time too much for that. She's extremely busy and he isn't going to call her unless it's directly related to her job as Death or it's Important Business that needs her attention. Otherwise, she'll visit when she has time. Dee knows this, and it's why she's willing to listen when he calls - because Alchemist won't call her unless it's something that she would consider important.

And since Alchemist can theoretically solve the issue whenever he wants if he gets annoyed with Terra enough and stops holding back, it's not important enough to call Dee about.

How do cluster triggers work does alchemist get all the powers but weakened or does he get to choose a singular power? Same for someone like the Butcher or bonesaw'd victims who have two powers like murder rat
