Would Siru's dark typing make him more malicious/cruel, or would his intelligence and pack oriented heritage make him more empathetic? Just thinking about his reaction to the egg breaker. Cats will break things and torture animals for their amusement, and id assume a hound would be… meaner? He's kinda just a good boy

The expression of the Dark (Evil) type varies a lot based on the Pokemon in question.

Weavile and the like are actively cruel and take distinct pleasure in harming their prey.

Yveltal is a legendary pokemon that represents the destruction wrought by natural disasters. It could be considered the equivalent of a living forest fire but serves as part of the life/death cycle of renewal with Xerneas, the Life Pokemon.

Darkrai is sometimes portrayed as a rather miserable Pokemon, tied by its very nature to nightmares.

Absol has a reputation for bringing about disaster but that is due to it having a precognitive sense of danger. Not necessarily the cause, just danger. As such it is often reviled by those who are superstitious.

Houndour/doom are an interesting case, being among the earliest dark types introduced during the second generation. Their fire is especially harmful due to the toxins in their bodies, inflicting pain that is said to be eternal. They are pack hunters who, according to their pokedex entry, evenly divide what they catch amongst each other and even their leader does not take a larger share.

Perhaps the best way to describe the dark type is 'Unfair'. They learn a significant number of moves that are meant to manipulate their opponent into behaving a certain way or else reduce their opponents ability to fight. Not necessarily dark type moves, either.

Sand Attack and Mud Slap are both used widely among the dark types and Houndour in specific can also naturally learn Smog (Poison type, chance to poison), Incinerate (Fire type attack, destroy opponent held item), and Foul Play (Dark, attack using the opponents power instead of your own). Whilst the dark type does have a significant number of direct attack options, many of their best plays involve manipulation instead.

I'd like to know how Al's training is different than normal, and how it will shape his pokemon's abilities differently.

I doubt other trainers can teach their pokemon magic, or give them an understanding of what they're doing anywhere near as in-depth as Al's pokemon will have. Otherwise, not sure.

@Mister Ficser - You don't have to answer this officially. I'd just like to start some discussion on it.

I imagine Al's conceptual explanations will allow his Pokemon to learn moves earlier, since they have a better understanding of the energy they're using, as well as being more creative and using the teachings to figure out moves that never would occur to them naturally, like how Sirius learned how to use Iron Tail.

I think he is flat out teaching them magic. Focused on their inate elements to begin with certainly, but not limited to the move lists that others have. I look forward to the shenanigans they will get up to.

I also love that Sirius enjoys his tea. I hope when they get back to Erika that Sirius has his own pot and brewing skills.

If your looking into any more pokemon for him perhaps a Petilil. They aren't native but I don't think that matters. Perhaps teach it Fighting moves and evolve it into a Hisuian Liligant

Red and Black and fire type. Coming from a ship. Could be a litten egg.

The fact the sailor said he already had plenty. I'm guessing it's a 'ship's cat' situation.
On the other hand, the sailor swore using a Kalos Legendary's name, and there's a red-black fire cat from Kalos, too. So, Litleo/Pyroar seems like a good guess. And the Litten line are a starter, so might be in high enough demand in Alola that they'd still be valuable, even if there are a bunch of eggs.

It reminds me a bit of "Fist of the Pikachu" by AnimeAddiction.

The Egg was saved, but will the baby know who saved it? Can it tell without being told by other pokemon?

Is he gonna visit Sabrina's Gym soon? Giovanni's?

He should teach his pokemon how to sing and dance to the YMCA song that they can then perform at all the gyms he visits. He just needs to dress them up as a native American, a leather daddy, a Jenny police officer, and so on.

Also I might be remembering this wrong but I'm pretty sure our first introduction to Houndoom in the anime involved one finding Misty's Togepi after it got separated from the group and taking care of it until they met back up. I have a strong memory of it carrying Togepi around in a messenger bag on its side? I'll have to look it up later.

Yeah, Episode 180, with the rancher's Houndoom taking care of Togepi.

Y'know, I'm starting to think if I were to sum up the Dark type in the most concise way possible, it would be, and pardon my language, "Fuck you." Whether that's just a sneasel going "Fuck you, that's what you get!" Or a Hound going "Think you're hot shit? Well fuck you, you cook up good." Or even an Absol! "Fuck you, I'm going to drag you kicking and screaming into a better tomorrow if I have to shank you and haul your bleeding carcass there myself."

Does oak recognise the honedge Al is carrying openly, specifically so that people will see it?

Also is it actuallya honedge, or has the ghost moved on assuming the sword was too ruined to ever be repaired?

Is it possible that the sword is a honedge trying very very hard to pretend it isn't one while next to a scary apex predator? I feel like he would have noticed when he bought it, but maybe he revived it, like how a fossil machine does for the various ancient pokemon, when he repaired it, and just never noticed it was frozen in terror?

I figure the Honedge will wake up whenever Alec gets around to using it as a sword or channels magic through it.
Thus far he traded for it at a pawn shop (where the shopkeeper physically handed it over), cleaned off the surprisingly cosmetic only rust, sharpened and polished the blade, cast Repair on the sheath and decorative tassel, and worn it on his back for most of a week.

I'm curious if, when Oak asked his name, he gave the truth ("Alec Mist"), or the whole truth ("@**&@%$#%. But that name is redacted, so call me Alec Mist instead. It's the name I answer to and put on my paperwork.")
