If I remember his character right- Saint isn't actually a raving lunatic, as many like to portray him as. Actually, a lot of that comes from the fact that he came face to face with Lisa who used her power to tear into him and rip into his arguments.
So my take on the Dragon Slayers is less chaotic stupid. Still operating under an incorrect assumption but they have reasons for it
The Dragonslayers? They're in essence a smaller, more pathetic version of Cauldron: they're the wrong people, taking a responsibility on their shoulders that they're completely unqualified for, and refuse to find anyone better suited for it because their need to be The Decider overrides their desire for the actually correct decision to be made.
And, because they are The Deciders, they get to make Hard Decisions, like programming Dragon to build them custom power armor so they can roleplay as (in)famous mercenaries, rather than doing their self-appointed Important Duty, and repeatedly, publicly, stealing from Dragon, using their cheat code, so many times that she Triggers. And then, when Triggering creates a Corona and Gemma that the Three Stooges can't interpret, the lead Stooge gets Teacher to give him a Thinker upgrade so he can keep up with Dragon again.
So Maggie and Mischka? "Nice motive; still criminal (probably murderers)." Geoff? Geoff needs to be dropped on the other side of a containment wall. He's no longer a person; he's a Pet.
Kind of a tossup whether the programming Tinker had good commenting and variable naming practices or wrote entries for the obfuscated C contest.
It's probably pretty intuitive, given that the Dragonslayers, before Geoff's upgrade, were salvage divers and not computer programmers, and yet were able to keep up with Dragon with that laptop's help right up until she Triggered, largely due to their actions.
