Would beating saint give him computer powers? Because I doubt he could remove the chains on the dragon without doing some truly ridiculous bulshit

even then there is the possibility dragon might want to bring him to justice

Also, does Al know if they didn't make copies of ascalon? If it seems too easy, it probably was

I trust that Alec knows how to poke around menus without changing anything. Who knows? Richter might have Dragon's restrictions as clearly labeled toggles.

Kind of a tossup whether the programming Tinker had good commenting and variable naming practices or wrote entries for the obfuscated C contest.

Omni-Weapon (+68,820) 18/20:
Friendly Fire (Breaker/Thinker LVL4)
-42 traits undetermined.

Spend the gods-damned point already Al, FFS!:oops:😅
Quoted an error in the character sheet and point has been already spent, and many thanks to

Aelryinth

for highlighting this fact!

Renaissance Man 15/20:

Any chance we could get ssome visual marker to tell us exactly which skills he is currently boosting the the character sheet? Ideally in the Skills section, but under the Renaissance Man listing would work fine as well.

Shard Shatterer: Parahumans and Shards are 10% more vulnerable to all effects originating from you!

Because that Stranger Effect totally needed the extra 10% boost in this chapter! :ninja2::evil2::wat2::eek2:

Kind of a tossup whether the programming Tinker had good commenting and variable naming practices or wrote entries for the obfuscated C contest.

This is Wildbow's world, and we all know how obsessively committed he is to making every single thing as messed up as possible, constantly. Not to mention how his stunning lack of knowing or comprehending anyting about any given topic didn't prevent him from making authoritative statements about how things works in his universe. It's probably 100% coded in deliberately (further-)obfuscated Whitespace, Brainf*** or something even worse. Hell, with the way Tinker powers work it could just be unedited stream of consciousness that somehow Just Works Anyway.

You guys are giving Alec far too much credit.

Entirely possible. What's your argument(s) in favour of that statement?

Okay so let's see what would help him unshackle dragon

empowered investor: can lead to him adding the capability of breaking chains if there wasn't one before

Omni-Weapon: adding informational warfare/ auto-hacking capabilities

Emotional manipulation: might work, but a bad solution

Skills: cleaning and repair might be affected

Shoulder of giants: finding people with computer skills and staying near them, probably some internet café or computer repair shop, or university course on coding

Timed Hits: helps you avoid any traps added to the program, that would execute dragon

Renaissance Man: get computer skills

Character: makes his chances of succeeding better when doing it alone

Temporal reversion, might make it able to stop the worst possible scenario of ascalon activating

Prototypist: freeing Dragon is absolutely worth the first attempt to freeing dragon

Heart's Desires: use it to point you to a person that is willing and capable of releasing dragon, probably armsy

What would the power Al got from Victor do if he spent time around Uber (whether or not Uber agreed to -- or knew about -- it)?

If I remember his character right- Saint isn't actually a raving lunatic, as many like to portray him as. Actually, a lot of that comes from the fact that he came face to face with Lisa who used her power to tear into him and rip into his arguments.

So my take on the Dragon Slayers is less chaotic stupid. Still operating under an incorrect assumption but they have reasons for it
The Dragonslayers? They're in essence a smaller, more pathetic version of Cauldron: they're the wrong people, taking a responsibility on their shoulders that they're completely unqualified for, and refuse to find anyone better suited for it because their need to be The Decider overrides their desire for the actually correct decision to be made.

And, because they are The Deciders, they get to make Hard Decisions, like programming Dragon to build them custom power armor so they can roleplay as (in)famous mercenaries, rather than doing their self-appointed Important Duty, and repeatedly, publicly, stealing from Dragon, using their cheat code, so many times that she Triggers. And then, when Triggering creates a Corona and Gemma that the Three Stooges can't interpret, the lead Stooge gets Teacher to give him a Thinker upgrade so he can keep up with Dragon again.

So Maggie and Mischka? "Nice motive; still criminal (probably murderers)." Geoff? Geoff needs to be dropped on the other side of a containment wall. He's no longer a person; he's a Pet.

Kind of a tossup whether the programming Tinker had good commenting and variable naming practices or wrote entries for the obfuscated C contest.
It's probably pretty intuitive, given that the Dragonslayers, before Geoff's upgrade, were salvage divers and not computer programmers, and yet were able to keep up with Dragon with that laptop's help right up until she Triggered, largely due to their actions.

Isn't it Acidbath

It's more that when that confrontation happened aside from it being against Lisa Teacher had betrayed the fight scion effort (which had Cauldron make surprised pikachu faces) and met up with them so Saint had gotten the power refreshed and was suffering the mental effects.

Did it? I was under the impression she basically built the place and ran it from the beginning

She didn't and couldn't have the birdcage has been around for a long time Marquis got taken down in 2000 for example but the sinking of Newfoundland and beginning of Dragon was only 2005 probably because the whole thing reeks of being a Ziz plot (see below).

Mags was actually a member of the coast guard which was important because her creator had shard boosted paranoia so the terminal they found had to have a valid law enforcement badge number and id entered into it within a short time from when they found it tho I can't remember if it would trigger Ascalon or self destruct the terminal.

Thank you for catching that! I've corrected the issue, now.
And made it a bit more clear by separating the improvement into its own line instead of just tacking it on to the end of the previous one.
If I'm remembering right, when Alec was thinking about how much SP the powers he's constantly using are taking up and his resource pool regeneration, he is regenerating more than he is currently passively using... If so he might add on Aerokinesis to the list of stuff he has constantly going as well. As it's controlling the air around him he can just passively be working to make it stronger while doing as little as causing a slight breeze or holding some air still and could be done at just about all times without much issue.

Eh. They really do think they're doing the right thing. It's not worth a death sentence
Don't they steal her tech regularly and go on theft sprees, committing widespread collateral murder when they do so?

Or is that fanon?

I do know that if they were actually that concerned about Dragon, they would have taken her out immediately, and damn the consequences. I mean, if you knew what was going to happen with Skynet, wouldn't you have hit its self-destruct button, even if it was in charge of a prison full of violent sociopathic terrorists?

They're just using her as an excuse so they can feel powerful and important.

An update to the chapter has been made with an inclusion of the defeat of the Heartbroken and a list of what was gained.

Also, Renaissance Man has had an update to include a list of what it's currently working on.

Total CAD Gained...
40,000!

💰🤑💸💲
Canadian dollars?!?!

 DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

Cue Alec doing on a minor spending spree because (1) he cannot use Canadian dollars back in America and (2) doesn't want to go to a bank to exchange his money as he's a wanted supervillain. Plus, knowing Alec's bad luck, any bank he goes into will likely get robbed by criminals.

He's already sprucing up his van for Mouse-chan, might as well go the extra mile to burn the Canadian dollars sitting in his pocket.

Ability: Emotional Manipulation 1/20 has evolved into...
Ability: Human Resource Management 9/20: Every emotion or sense belonging to anyone that you have recently seen or touched can be altered at will. You can inspire love, hatred, anger, remorse and/or anything else that can be felt and these emotions can be set to a target of your choosing. You can induce vivid hallucinations of loved ones or else paralyze someone with the fear of you.
Warning: There are entire pantheons that are concerned over this...
Well, Terra-tan, who coded this System that allowed a synergy that concerns egotistical deities and their entourage? You may need a refresher course, scrub.
