So, brief status update.

Omega Ultimate is still alive. We're at the final mechanic of phase 5, which means cleaning up the previous mechanic, seeing enrage, seeing final phase, and then… spamming ten Limit Breaks to victory. And then I can put the game down for a while.
Now, we aren't raiding Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, because our PhysRanged is on a trip to the mountains. Which means I have time to write.

So expect next chapter by end of Sunday.

In other news, though.

Um. Everything's coming up October, it seems.

Last Friday, I started some fairly decent paying contract attorney work through Robert Half, and proceeded to get more experience in two days than I think many attorneys get in two months.

And then this afternoon I found an email in my inbox asking me to interview for a salaried position at a 501(c)(3) charity, which has public service loan forgiveness and an additional loan repayment stipend through the DC Bar as benefits.

So finger's crossed on that one. Pray for me this Thursday, I could really use that loan forgiveness!~

*raises hands and sends energy for the genki dama*

What is this code? Have spies started to pass encrypted messages via SV?
Gonna try my best to translate for non-MMO players:
  1. "Omega" = Big stronk roboto character you meet in the game.
  2. "Ultimate" = Denominates a difficult version of a boss fight, involving a group of 8 players against one character (Omega in this case).
  3. "is still alive" = October and his pals still haven't beaten the fight in its entirety (usually, hitting the boss until its health points reaches 0%).
  4. "We're at the final mechanic of phase 5" = this particular fight is complex enough to consist of a sequence of stages (phases), each one with their own different mechanics and progressively more difficult. October's gang managed to clear four phases, and they're still figuring the kinks of the fifth.
  5. "which means cleaning up the previous mechanic" = to make progress, they need to practice what they already cleared, so that they can do the whole more efficiently in the future. This involves a lot of wipes (party death) and repeats of the fight.
  6. "seeing enrage" = because they're taking too much time doing what's needed, the boss goes berserk and kills all players. This is a tool MMO developers use to introduce some pressure, so that players don't get too confident.
  7. "seeing final phase" = there's still one more phase full of mechanics they got to go through (the poor bastards).
  8. "and then… spamming ten Limit Breaks to victory" = Limit Break is the mechanic where player teams gather energy over time to drop a ton of alpha strike on a target, but exceptions aside you can't really spam as far as I know it so my money is on and this is one exception per the game story, so you can read that as October's gang being PRETTY HECKIN' PISSED ALREADY WHY WON'T IT DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIEDIEDIEDIE.

Which I imagine it's the core message here: "we got eight angry and frustrated nerds here, send tea and hugs."

Gotta love how cryptic gamer slang is.
And some wonder why others think we talk like aliens. :V

Actually the Ultimate has a mechanic that refills your limit break bar for free eight times in phase 6. Every single player has to use their Limit Break.

When you have three stacks of the new Flickering Dynamis buff, using LB3 consumes the buffs and refills your gauge. The first LB3 use of the phase primes them, and increases LB gauge generation. So the phase has three tank LB's, two healer LB's, one caster LB, one phys ranged LB, and three melee LB's.

8lb!?! So a bit more than 3.6 kilograms for those who prefer metric.

The in-universe reason this is possible (although the framing device for the Ultimate Raids is that a minstrel is going 'BUT WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED WOULDN'T IT BE COOL' anyways) is that the boss has figured out how you can do Limit Breaks
So everyone involved is just kinda chucking them around like candy :V

Interview happened.

... I got invited for a second round interview less than an hour and a half after the first one.

AND I got word from a federal job I applied for that my application has been referred to HR, which is gov't speak for "we're interviewing you, but since we're the government, expect us to ask in a few days".

well congrats October I hope your interviews go well and you get the job you want

Freedom.

And now that my evenings are free again... hopefully next chapter comes soon.

Unfortunately, I need to move soon — my lease is up on March 27 — so packing is gonna eat into free time. But... yeah.

I want to write, damn it. I don't need to look at that stupid robot anymore.

Actually, now I want an omake dealing with the Crossover Event where Omega falls out of the Rift into Marvel Earth. Because that has to be an Existential Danger even for Marvel Comic level Supers.

My various Marvel RPG characters: "Really?!?" *sigh* "Here's our next potential world ender, who's on the roster this week?"

Galactus heads to Etherys. WoL just sighs and pulls out their weapon of choice. "I just can't get a break."
