Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Nope, everyone can change their growth affinity. It will increased depending on how much of a badass you are and how long you've been alive.
Do legendary feat -> become more (closer to) legendary. Makes sense to me.

I...

...

Sorry, I think my SoD just broke really badly.

I have no real explanation just yet... only something about this not being how Magical Girls are supposed to work.
Also, I think you take the general belief too far; it shapes how MGs work and how their powers work, but it does not change their Affinities once they have them. As I understood it, the overall belief only decides on how a peoples' magic works in general, not the details. Affinities are purely personal in nature. Especially something like growth should not be able to change at all.

So... I will just go back to my analysis and see whether I can word the reasons for why it broke properly later.

I guess I should quickly jump in before I go to work and say that I like 1 for the picture.

Just fits my sense of aesthetics better.

Your affinities like Beginning and End are set in place. Your growth is capable of changing though. Humans constantly grow beyond what they were in the past, they are never static.
Besides, it seems a little strange to me that only people who have things like Legend or Epic can get to be high-tier fighters.

It makes more sense that you start at one point and can change from there.
(Normal humans can change their growth too, but only humans, it's race specific with Gaia's theme of evolution.)

I actually prefer 2.

How so? MG are powered by belief, it's logical that if people believe one specific MG is very powerful then she will obtain a better growth to fulfill their expectation.

No, that is not how this works.
MGs exist because people believe that magic works this way. Their specifics are basically anything under the sun and beyond... but one of the important parts about CW's system is that it is not fair. If you are stuck as a Story girl, you are boned if the big guys show up unless you got some good abilities to work around your slow growth.
It is the Epic girls that are lucky with their growth, this is it. The weaker ones have to be lucky to survive or be monsters like Red Rose, who has tons of experience and spent a long time growing her weaker abilities.

So why is she not Epic despite everyone in the Local Dimensional Cluster knowing to run away from her really fast if she comes for them? Because this is not how growth works.
Why are the Goddess Four not Divine despite being the most powerful all around? Because this is not how growth works, either.

Effectively, more people believing that someone is a badass is already shown in the overall growth; more people started to believe Goddess Gold was good at vaporising stuff, so her Oblivion Awaits grew stronger.
That she bought it with EXP is just the mechanical explanation and directly ties into this bit of lore.

It just feels wrong for me that growth can... grow. I doubt anyone can convince me otherwise, so I would like to not continue this discussion fruitlessly.

I wonder if it'd be possible to transform parts of our body into flames. This could allow us to possibly us it as a damage avoidance skill, where attacks would just pass through some fire that would then reform into undamaged flesh.

Kinda like a Logia Devil Fruit power from One Piece.

Would probably give us a massive weakness to water though.

:/
I am open to changing it to not do that.
It's was just one of the ways I had prepared to help you guys into the big leagues...

Well then, I see how it needs to be. You guys did choose the hardest setting after all.
Your growth will no longer have the chance to change itself depending on your deeds.
Unless anyone else has an opinion on that?

I was okay with it. *shrug*

Edit: I'd like you to wait for more opinions before you change your system. That was only one opinion (from an active player though).

IIRC one of the basic premises of this quest in particular is we are in the early days before everything was set in stone. We don't know about growth affinities, thus mankind doesn't have any thoughts on it, and so it is a bit more fluid. We lost the chance for early support in exchange for the chance to shape how the general public thinks of magical girls. SO we can play a bit fast and loose, which i admit is contrary to the original quest. We are also earlier than the quest so we could change how it turns out.

Maybe you could think of it as we don't know our growth affinity and we are just noobing really hard until we figure it out?

Edit: Welp author spoke while I was writing. That was a waste of time.

This might be just me, but you appear rather spiteful there.

Besides, I always understood it that Fresh Meat means start low, grow high; as in we won the cosmic power lottery in the worst way possible and with great undercurrents of bad luck. Not that we start one of the smallest and never get the chance to start up the exponential growth in earnest.

By the way, I also noticed that there is another important problem with giving us this growth by being a badass.
It means we have to be a badass first.
Which means to go and fight the invaders once they come. Which we can not do when our growth is so low that the elite mooks still one-shot us by that time.
Which means our growth will not grow because no one will jump into the fray for these odds.

I hope that is understandable... but the way you described it earlier just had traces of "go and bring yourself in mortal danger for the shiny, where bad RNG will kill you in a single turn"... which I do not like.

If you want that system and think it fits, I do not mind it staying; I just doubt I will ever be happy with it.
Also... shutting up now, I am getting obnoxious.

Well the author did list out current growth affinity as "Story" and you argued against it being able to change. I am uncertain what else you thought would happen, or wanted to happen when you just argued for this outcome.

[] Fresh Meat - You are so fucked beyond reasoning that it's not even funny. But if you survive you could make something of the situation. (Prepare To Die) Some Random Girl
You are literally some random girl off of the street, you don't have any special growth modifiers beyond being good at learning new things.

You guys chose the hardest option.
So yes, until you git gud damn near anyone can paste you. Though you seem to be forgetting that you do lots of damage too.

Ugh... Mini-vote.
[] Keep Growth Change
[] Stop Growth Change

[x] Keep Growth Change

I would have chosen that option regardless if i had come in at the beginning, because it was send our potential was off the charts, that with enough time we could BECOME the power.

That the QM would play to the spirit of the Fresh Meat choice? Start really fucking low, grow high.

There is an Aqua and Kairi expy (the former of which I made) that do have their growth affinities grow. But they are very much the exception to the rule ini Crystal's setting.

I can see where Rukia's coming from, but I also see Naron's point. Affinities aren't something Humanity's belief creates or derives, they are literal concepts that have existed since, and even before, the Multi-verse/Time/etc. was born. They are something innate to the being before anything else.

But Rukia's going with the fact that Belief is Reality in order to power them up. Which I can get, it's like a combined Cult and Essence rating from Exalted or something. Or maybe Legend rating from Scion is more appropriate.

It's just... The soul is almost... in Crystal's setting you can literally go have your soul examined to see if you were a male soul born in a female body. *Shrug*

I should probably explain how the growth change works.
Basically, for every affinity you go up in. (Story -> Myth -> Legend -> Epic.) Your scaling increases by 0.1. So your Base Damage calcs will go from x1.2 to x1.3 or your armor calcs go from 10 * 1.3^ level to 10*1.4^level
This is not a retroactive change. It only affects your future growth.

I'm not touching soul meta-physics with a twenty foot barge pole.
It's a lovely way of making a horrible mess of your story.

  • [x] Ask Morgan if she has any ideas
[X] Compare and contrast her ideas with the following ones and pick the one you two decide is better:
-[X] Travel a mile or two away from the base
-[X] Use thermokinesis to check for cameras and any patrols; try to aim for a place that you think the border patrol is weakest
-[X] If the fence is low enough, or is not barbed wire, jump across carrying Una, or climb it with Una holding on to your back, respectively (use of reinforcement to lessen the burden if necessary)
-[X] If the fence is too high or barbed wire, have Morgan use pierce to break enough of the links of the fence to move past it.
--[X] If you have time, and can grab the wires without injury, use thermokinesis to heat the ends of the fence links and reattach them, cooling it down after they are linked.
-[X] of course you feel electric current running throughout the fence don't pick a method that includes touching it
-[X] Since you are still in forested area, maybe there are trees tall enough to climb over the fence with? Consider it, though check with Morgan to see if she has a method to lessen the danger of Una falling from this.
-[X] If you do find security cameras only take them out if absolutely needed to. Preferably try to keep it to one camera if you can, and don't melt all the wires or the camera in whole: try to make it look like a freak accident or defect, with one or two wires going bad if you are able.
    [X] Plan equipment is important
    -[X] Thermal Spear: Double Cast
    -[X] Plate Armor level 3
    -[X] Unnamed Sword level 3
    [x] Keep Growth Change
    [X] Unnamed Sword Level 1 -> 2
    [X] Plasma Sphere Level 1 -> 3
    [X] EXP Plan
    -[X] Unnamed sword Level 4
    -[X] Plate Armor Level 4
    [X] Stop Growth Change

Huh, either way sound interesting.

Static growth will likely end up with a more tactical bent with us trying to get an organization- or at least mooks. When mooks can get you a decent amount of firepower difference it will make sense to try going that way. On the one hand we can die very easily, on the other shounen power creep is very unlikely.

Growth change will likely give us a small cast with us and out magical girl team taking the stage. Keeps us in the magical girl genera.

[X] Stop Growth Change

Why don't we try the hard mode?:p

Edit: ninja'd by author. Looks like shounen power creep isn't happening, Yay!
