Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

TRAINING MONTAGE V3, SWEATY EDITION
The sun has long since risen by the time you enter the front door, Daiyu trailing behind you slightly as the occupants turn to look at you. You'd tried to do your best to clean up, but when you've been sleeping on the ground all night, there isn't much you can do without a bath. A niggling thought reminds you that you did know where a river was and you could use magic to heat it, but the thought of stripping naked and bathing with Daiyu just over there, hungry eyes watching-

A gentle bump from behind you brings your focus back to now, your sister staring at your red cheeks with narrowed eyes. Umm, fuck. Stepping forwards, you clear your throat, forcibly draining the heat out of your cheeks as you hold the door open for your girl- girlfr- Despite your best efforts, a tiny tinge of red forces its way onto your cheeks. Holding the door open for Daiyu, you step further into the room, avoiding their probing eyes as you move past them. "I'm going to take a shower."

You make it half-way up the stairs, Daiyu's footsteps just behind you when a voice calls up. "Feel free to share, we've a busy day ahead and you need to hurry up, you have ten minutes or we'll go without you." You almost slip, slamming an arm into the wall to catch yourself, gritting your teeth at the jolt that runs through your arm.

"We're- I'm fine. We won't be long." You silently swear revenge when you hear Mother's gentle laugh, vowing on your crimson face that you would have revenge somehow. A gentle push on the leg from Daiyu gets you moving again, passing the last five steps to the top. You move into the bathroom straight away, turning the water on and throwing your shirt off, letting out a little sigh of relief when the dirt covered shirt stops sticking to your skin. It's when you are halfway through pulling down your trousers that you notice Daiyu in the room, frozen a few steps past the door.

You let out a curious noise as you finish pulling down your trousers, tossing them into the clothing bin to the side. "Hey, you alright?" She lets out a long humming noise as you lean forwards, narrowing your eyes as you look at her. She looks fine, just a little ruffled, even the bite marks are mostly gone. When she slowly nods, you just shrug, turning back to the show and pulling off your bra. You hear a long, slow breath from behind you as you test the water, dropping your bra on the mat.

A cold hand suddenly settles on your back, making you hiss, just about stopping yourself from jerking forwards and falling into the bath. Glancing back, a red faced Daiyu is doing her best to tug her shirt off with one hand, the other quickly warming against your skin. Something in your stomach flutters as you watch her undress, failing utterly as she fumbles. Taking a quick breath, you turn around, letting her hand drop to her side as you reach forwards. "We need to hurry up, just... let me help alright."

She lets out a high pitched noise as you reach forwards, tugging her shirt over her head in a quick motion. You look down as you move to throw it away, Daiyu moving half-way between trying to hide herself and take her shirt back. Her hand just hovers awkwardly over her stomach and you hum, taking a moment to enjoy the view before you step forwards again, tugging at her shorts. You giggle at the wide eyed look she sends you, stepping back when she pushes on your shoulders and letting her finish getting undressed herself.

Mmmmmm. Your mouth feels a little dry as she flushes at the sound and kicks her shorts to the side, crossing her arms in front of her and trying to look confident, despite the fact that you can see her blush slowly creeping down her chest. You also cross your arms, watching her eyes shift at the motion with a fluttery woosh in your stomach.

Clearing your throat, you reach and hook a finger around the front of her bra, pulling it forwards and letting it gently snap back. "Off, you can't shower dressed." You've already finished taking the last of your underwear off yourself, smiling at her as you wait. You are going to have to get used to being naked. Being body-shy was cute, but it would get in the way later.

Stepping into the shower while she finishes putting her clothes in the basket, you let out a sigh as the hot water soothes your aching muscles. Sleeping on the floor really isn't that comfortable, even with a pillow. You close your eyes and lean forwards, letting the water run directly onto your back as your sigh stretches out.
/LINE BREAK\

"Told you we'd make it." You avoid looking at Daiyu's heavily blushing face, the only thing keeping you from glowing similarly being the little thermal trick you'd figured out.

"These are not mine." She whispers quickly to you, trying her best to look her normal self while shifting constantly, avoiding the knowing looks from the others.

"Yes." You don't even try to keep the image out of your mind. "I had noticed." You run a finger along your shirt, wincing at the compression below it. "It's a little tight." The pain is well worth her atomic blush, hopefully it would give her ideas. Shy Daiyu was nice, but yesterday was better.

"We need to change back." You let out a long hum as you look at her, enjoying the familiar smell surrounding you.

"I don't think we'll have the chance, unless you want to strip here." You look around at the location Gaia had teleported you too. Completely flat stone, a few chairs off to the side and solid walls surrounding you, no cover. To do or not to do.

She's silent for a long moment before letting out an embarrassed sigh, rubbing her face as she turns and walks around you, towards the area you'd been given. Just as she reaches you she glances around, then leans in, throwing an arm around you neck as she presses her lips to yours. Eyes wide in shock, you let her pull you down, a flick of her tongue against your lips before she leans back.

Leaving you panting and flaring uncontrolled magic like a bonfire, she walks past you with crimson skin and smug grin, leaving you staring at her back.

I like this Daiyu too.
/LINE BREAK\

Sitting down as Daiyu jogs over at her sister's call, you only let yourself appreciate the view for a minute, shaking your head and closing your eyes. Now, how does this work. The idea came to you when Una reminded you of an old Manga you had read too. The principle was actually really simple, you seemingly made magic out of nothing, but could consume your own magic to make yourself make more magic.

All you have to do is automate it so that you don't need to maintain it constantly, and it should basically give you free magic. Or something, you aren't really sure. But it sill probably work, and that is good enough.

You form the little... ball? It is probably a ball, basically your barrier but inside you constantly. So like a cube. Probably. Whatever. You form your barrier, letting it settle into place when a crash in the distance makes you open your eyes. The sight that greets you nearly makes your barrier collapse. Daiyu was shirtless, apparently having gotten too hot and taken it off, and she was in the middle of trading punches with her sister.

While the sight wasn't exactly unique, you'd seen her without her shirt on before, she appears to have forgotten that she wasn't wearing her bra. Consequently you get an eyeful of skin, slicked with sweat and body just decent because her clothes were sticking to her. You swallow heavily, not missing the smug smirk she sends you over her shoulder. Okay- "What'a ya doin?" Sabina's sudden interruption does make you drop your barrier, popping with a silent shockwave as you spin to look up at her.

Judging by the smile she's sporting, she knows exactly what you were doing.

Closing your eyes, you reform the barrier, explaining as you go. "I'm trying to have infinite power." You check with your thermal sense, and she seems to be staring down at you confused, before suddenly shifting and leaning closer.

"Oh yeah, and you think you can pull that out of her?" You aren't sure if you should blush or be mad, it's such a... strange statement. "Gonna show her your reactor eh? I bet she's got enough juice to go 'round." Your barrier collapses again as your ears catch fire, hitting Sabina in the leg as hard as you can. She squeaks and jumps back, laughing as she hops further. "Alright alright, I'll be over here." She wanders off a bit and starts swinging her sword, tiny little crescents of magic exploding off of her every so often. Whatever.

You go back to your idea, finally getting the peace you need as you carefully ignore the meaty thumps from across the space. ignoreignoreignoreignore. You peek just one eye open as you start feeding magic into your barrier, eye homing in.

(Cerys: 88, +15 Magic Control, -5 Distracted = 98
Infinite Engine: 2/4)

Despite your distraction, it actually works. Once you let go of the lining it starts devouring your magic with a hunger, feeding it back into you. It doesn't give it back at 1-1, but it does it slowly enough that you aren't actually losing magic, just constantly eating away at a little bit.

Ok, so, this is actually working? You'd kind of expected it to just not. When you feel a tiny bit of magic trickle back, you smile. It's not much. You clench your fist, watching the tiny little cracks in the air that follow it. The longer it has time to work, the more it will provide.

It promptly collapses, sending a wave of cracks shooting outwards in every direction and leaving you sitting sideways on a piece of rock, gravity apparently having given up on trying. You look up to the side at everyone else and sheepishly drop off of your rock, shuffling over to find a new spot as it crumbles.

(Cerys: 8 + 15 Magic Control = 23
Infinite Engine: 2/4)

Actually trying to get it to maintain itself without focusing on it was... really hard. Your barrier naturally expands on its own when you don't pay attention to it, which is kind of bad since you don't want to start suddenly melting things by accident.

Ok, how about, chains? Like my fire. Can you even chain... the End?

(Cerys: 44 + 15 = 59
Infinite Engine: 3/4)

It burns. Your barrier, it hurts. You feel it latch on to the flesh inside the barrier and chew. It hurts. You pant as you try to collapse the barrier, but it just doesn't. Wait fuck what no stop. You try to crush it, the chains rattling around it audible to your ears somehow. It feels like your fire but not, hungry and ever expanding. No, stop that. You drag it, hooking the inert chains of your fire around it, crushing it deeper and deeper under them. It stops hurting, just a miniscule sting that quickly fades.

You pant breaths of steam, the ground around you thoroughly slagged as magma drips off of your body. Ok. You look down at yourself, apart from a tiny hole in your shirt, you were untouched. First, oww, second, Owwwww. You push yourself out of the pool of magma, awkwardly dragging your feet through the thick liquid. When you look up Sabina appears right in front of you, flashing over and cringing at the heat. "Jeez, couldn't you resist melting into a puddle at the sight of her?"

You look at her, a drop of molten stone slowly running down your face and she falters, stepping back. "I'll just, um, yeahbye-" She flashes away, appearing back in her area and immediately going back to whatever it is she was doing. You step out of the last of the liquid, shaking your hair to get it off and sigh. I guess it's working, so long as I don't mind not being able to use my barrier. You frown as you rub your chest. Why did it do that, it's never hurt me before.

You plot over to Gaia, magma slopping off of you with every step, but she holds her hand up when you get close. "I would rather that this body not fall apart right here, give me a while to think about this." You hold up a hand, but lower it, nodding. "Go and practice something for a while, I need to think." You step back, a slight tension in her shoulders dropping when you do so.

The suit of armour looks at your forlorn face and pats you on the head. "Worry not, the Titan will fix your ails, sooner or later." You nod at him, tapping your leg as your sister looks up at you with her sword, little motes of light floating off of it. "Your sister should take a break, she has been working hard." Seeing as you spy beads of sweat running down her face, her hair stuck to her forehead as she nearly drops her sword, you think that's probably for the best.

"Alright, 'cmere Una." Despite her exhaustion, she practically jumps on your shoulders as you wander off to a less destroyed part of the training field, away from the bit of ground Daiyu and her sister are tearing up. You lean against a boulder that wasn't here earlier, a quick inspection lets you know that it came roughly in the direction of the sisters, considering the enormous trench it had dragged though the ground. What are you two doing over there?

You put the question off for later, brushing the last of the magma off as your sister drops onto your lap, crossing her legs and tucking her head under your chin. "What are we gonna do Sis?"

You hum as you take her hands, running magic along your arms as you wait for her to... accept? "I have an idea, let me through?" You don't want to force it with her. A second later, you feel the resistance stop and your magic flows freely. This is. Your heart beats, as does hers, you feel it like you do Daiyu. This is our Aria.

(Cerys: 70, +15 Magic Control, +21 Una = 106 Artificial Critical)

You follow it, letting your hearts beat together as your magic flows freely. The cage in your chest shudders a little as your magic surges a little, but beyond that it settles down. Huh. You let your magic withdraw, the surge fading as the Aria vanishes. "Guess you really are a little Knight." You smile down at her, the look of pure bliss on her face practically blinding.

You hug her and press down with your chin. "We should do something nice." She turns her eyes up, still smiling widely. "What do you want to do?"

Huh, so he sees Gaia as a Titan rather than a God. Interesting.

Does this include the Forsaken Knight?

Since it's been pointed out to me that some of the content might break the rules of the forum, I've blanked the entire chapter and put it up for review.
It will be uploaded/deleted/replaced when the Mods get around to reviewing the chapter.

...you might get more people to actually see those things if you do not edit them in later. The only reason I caught this one is because I made it a habit to check for your massive editings.
I am not going to comment on your ideas, though; that would be me doing the players' work.

One thing though: you have neither Juggernaut Wave, nor Hand to Hand or Reinforcement anywhere in your plans. So you might want to write up one or two more for those.
Duly noted about the editings.

At this juncture neither H2H nor Reinforcement are at all useful to Cerys, largerly because she's fully reliant on her temperature control and the assorted spells to wage war. If Reinforcement modifier is applicable to theoretical blade rain attacks, it might get trained later on, but as it is, both are rather worthless... And no, Forsaken Knight (aka "no spells allowed") doesn't count as a subversion - since he is an ally and the designated heavy hitter in case we do meet someone immune to magic.

Though when we first meet a True Anti-Demon Tank (aka "I have Elemental Backup, witch") I'm going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Then I'll convince Cerys to create a boulder of ice larger than the tank is, and drop it from great height... Hmmm, gotta work on Ice Sphere then. I mean, Thermal Spear is nominally also capable of sending lances of ice at targets, so that might work in a pinch... Though I seem to recall there were some problems with that.

As for Juggernaut Wave, I think the more reasonable approach is to give training over time (spread over a few sessions) to make it possible to fully complete it in a single training rush. We'll see how it goes.

P.S. Keep us all updated on the chapter and the mods' decision, please.

Immune to Elemental Spells means Immune to Elemental Spells.

I've been keeping my room on Discord up to date, go there if you want more 'real-time' updates.
But it has been seen by the mods and questions have been asked, I'm just waiting for them to get back to me.

Technically "Okay it's elemental but it's still 1000 tons falling from a mile up" was an example explicitly used as being able to get around elemental backup.
While that is true, I am pretty sure that the tank in question will not just stand there and wait for Cerys to condense thousands of litres of water out of the air and into a solid block of ice.

In other words, even that would not work except with a lot of prep-time while undetected :V

And that's why the next points are:

It's one thing if Ice Sphere is made gradually, but quite another if it's manifested and launched all at once. Hence, why I said it's "working on Ice Sphere spell", we'll be much safer once it's developed...

Also, Elemental Backup does not necessarily prevent Sabina from cutting down the crew via Absolute Territory.

Lastly, I don't think lava is passable terrain for TADTs, so making it drown/stuck in molten ground might also work. But unlike the first two it's a longshot.

I would argue that an "ice sphere" spell would not be something Cerys would be able to do. It's neither fitting for her affinities nor generally thematic to someone named Ignition Knight.
She can make spears of ice, sure, but that's by condensing and freezing water, not creating ice. I know that if it were me running things on the back end it certainly wouldn't be on her "can do" list.

While I do not know for sure, I would argue the same thing. Cerys generally creates ice by freezing residue water in the surrounding air, which is a direct application of her being able to cool things down.

However, there is only so much water to go with in a given area; once that is used up, she can not make any more ice... and even then, it would take quite a while to get the water together from how far it is spread out.

Also, Elemental Backup does not necessarily prevent Sabina from cutting down the crew via Absolute Territory.

Lastly, I don't think lava is passable terrain for TADTs, so making it drown/stuck in molten ground might also work. But unlike the first two it's a longshot.
The second one requires the ground to be molten first... and for the tank to drive into it, or not drive away while it melts.
The first one might work, though you really should wonder if it is a good idea to have your squishy attack a tank that can scatter her over the whole battlefield. It might work with one tank, maybe even two... but what do you do about a whole battalion?

Hmm. Okay.

Nix the Ice Sphere as a spell. Acknowledged.

Molten ground is a hazard if it's not noticed... Depending on how tricky Cerys is, she can make a pocket of molten earth covered by a thin layer of normal (cooled down) ground and rely on the tanks' weight to make it sink, like on thin ice.

I'll ask Sabina to raise her AT radius and have her cut them down from concealment.

And as for an entire batallion... Is a problem. While Alpha and Omega will probably negate Elemental Backup, it's a suboptimal decision for many reasons. But, if "molten earth" works... Probably try and send Plasma Sphere underneath the tanks to inflict unstable footing.

To be fair, though, "do not be in need to destroy a battle-ready TAD Tank batallion" might be the best option. As Gaia's weapons, we are not likely to be in need of defending something that a batallion of TAD Tanks will be sent against.

Out of curiosity. Numerous anime have taught me that mixing hot and cold air can produce windstorms. As a natural process, too. And we have kinda-macro temperature control. Can we create hurricanes, and will hurricanes work on TAD Tanks?

...Might want to consult Gaia on this kind of weather manipulation, she's the planet, she probably knows this stuff.

I think that was brought up some 150 pages ago, maybe even earlier. Main problem with it is that Cerys lacks the basic understanding of the matter; she has had basically no education for her age. Anime might supplement some of this over time, but I doubt she would ever notice that particular thing as something she can potentially do.

Aside from the fact that she would likely be unable to actually control what the wind she creates does.

Daiyu and Creys ship huh, meh and here I though it was a Sabina and Daiyu.
Sigh I guess I will see.

As for it working on tanks... well elemental backup wouldn't negate the wind, but they're still fucking tanks. And TADs are kinda massive even for tanks. They ain't easily blown around.

Well. If Cerys watches Needless or reads from Ranma 1/2 manga, the hurricane of hot and cold air is explained to her... It's how I memorized that trivia.

If it's ever formalized as a spell, Hurricane ought to be an indiscriminate AOE spell that ought to come with continuous damage or means to maintain it. And, more importantly, with debuffs to ranged combat, movement and flight.

I'm not saying it will be enough to throw tanks around. But I want it to be good enough to inconvenience them greatly, perhaps ensuring the lack of support troops, enemy aircraft, and frequently missing shots.

Also, figuring out how to stop the force of nature via temperature control is a must. Not like we can Halt the hurricane and force it to die down like that. Unless we can?

...You're asking for a lot, and I don't think you're gonna get it.
