Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

I give you personal dislike... but you can not really discard an idea because of the costume being short. Cerys wears about the same thing, just in another colour and with more cleavage.

At least she wears a skirt that reaches mid thigh! And im assuming she's wearing stockings too, but if not that will remain my headcanon.

Still doesn't address the ugly color.

But really, that is a secondary reason for why I don't like It. I don't like the aesthetics, but the main reason I don't like it is because I don't think it fits.

But really, we're talking in circles. I'd like Rukia's opinion on it.

We just had a long discussion yesterday, which ended in the realisation that no, Cerys has no skirt.

She has something like kneesocks that reach to the mid-thigh, though... and just calling headcanon against this argument is kind of...
I mean, I could just say my headcanon is that this picture of Orange Heart frowns instead of smiling and has a long skirt as well.

And as I said, I understand the personal dislike for the colour, which is why I did not try to rebuke that.

But yes... we have to wait for Rukia to wake up and tell us what they think now.

The last time I saw a true Arfoire drawing, her legs were incorporeal. If that's the case, shouid I imagine her legs to be invisible? A headcanon is something that doesn't contradict canon. If you imagine Orange frowning instead of smiling that's contradicting what the picture is showing you. If you imagine Cerys to be wearing stockings because you can't see her legs, then you're really not contradicting canon?

But now that I see that apparently there is a full body image (that I still haven't seen), then maybe Cerys really doesn't have a skirt. But she has mid-thigh stockings? That's less reavealing then just a staight up leotard with mid calf boots.

This conversation has went on a long tangent though. I elect to stop here.

Um... I agree with most of this, however...

A headcanon is something that doesn't contradict canon. If you imagine Orange frowning instead of smiling that's contradicting what the picture is showing you.

Have you ever seen a person that can do just one facial expression? How would imagining her to frown contradict a picture where she smiles?

Possibly.

Anyway... one question @Rukia: Who rolled the 99 two (?) Updates back and what was it for?

Edit: I just realised something... why did our Thermal Spears not apply Freeze to the Scrants? That should have made them take a little damage and lowered their ApT to 1... which might have made that Enforcer live, if we used the spell on the attacking Scrant before.
You rolled a 99 on the Clocktower's diplomacy roll.

Cerys was worried about the spears over-penetrating and hitting the trapped Enforcer. Friendly fire is a thing.

- Since I missed the character design discussion, a little extension on that: Is there a reason you didn't use Orange Heart for Daiyu's image? Seems to me she should have fit the bill rather well, being one of the oldest characters in Neptunia, wielding a shield as well as having what seems to be an optimistic personality. Though the megaphone would have been a bit weird, but it's not like there aren't images of her without. Could even have been using that shield to hit things ala Shielder or simply pummel enemies into the ground with her fists while being boosted by whatever ability. Would have been a rather nice concept I think, with Cerys having the sword of the MG set and Daiyu the shield. Or are we scheduled to meet an Orange Heart expy in the future?
- Mechanically how does the whole intercepting attacks work here in general? As I remember how it was going in CWMGQ, the main way to block an attack against another character was with Intercept or some similar rule. That or charging the attacker to divert its attention before it attacks and taking the aggro. Otherwise, unless you use someone literally as a shield it didn't really work. Here it seems a bit more narratively driven as shown with the Scrant intercepting attacks by virtue of positioning. Are there some precise guidelines that we can get in order to make plans easier? If we need to snipe a commander inside an army or are in a hostage situation, for example, that could come in handy to no what works or not. Also is overpenetration a thing with our attacks and should we plan accordingly if we need to hit someone standing before something/someone we don't want to hit, for example?
I was looking for darker colours for Daiyu's design.
I might make an Orange Heart expy.

Intercepting mostly works the same as in Crystalwatcher's Quest, but there are times where narrative trumps mechanics. This fight, for instance. The summoner was creating literal meatshield blob's to hide behind, they are both taller and wider than him, so they can protect him with their bulk. Any attack aimed at him would hit the Scrant because it is just in the way.

A basic guideline for intercepts are. Swordfights between to people with equal ATP and skill = Lots of intercepts, since they can block each others attacks fairly convincingly.

If you want to snipe a commander, you need to actually be able to hit him. If your line of fire is clear, and no-one is expecting to have to step in the way of your spell, they will connect.

Overpenetration and collateral damage are both a thing that you are going to have to learn to work around when fighting with allies or in crampt areas.

But really, we're talking in circles. I'd like Rukia's opinion on it.
Am not going to change her picture.

While I have some time, I think I will clean up my notes a bit. There are some ideas I think we no longer need to pursue.
First of all, I discarded suppressing someone's magic and creating a something with Dispell (also interrupting magic), seeing that Halt will already do that once it gets Total Lockdown. This Ability stops the target from moving, casting magic or doing anything really.

Likewise, I think we do not need to get Mana Steal; even if it was possible, we can do better by just using the action to hit most opponents, seeing that Mana Steal only takes half of their MM. Which is not all that much, especially when we grow some more.
Aside from that, I still had Precog in my list... which I throw out now.

Additionally, I took out the ideas we had earlier about using Push to speed up our spells; from how it was described, they are already plenty fast.
Plus, I realised it does not work because we can only cast once per turn; each of these propelled spells would need one turn of just preparation.

These are the current lists, again loosely ordered by priority:
-examine how Flight works; we seem to lower our own weight, but not the weight of whatever we carry
--change the latter

-Get Boosted Flight?
--turn sword-boosted Flight into boosted Flight

-Infinity Edge
--make it levitate (we already managed that)
--make it shoot fire/plasma

-get the damage spike on Reinforcement
-- try to use Reinforcement and then have it give one strong boost for a strike
--the recoil removal: Cushion the spike with your own magic; stop it from lashing back at you

-Make Alpha and Omega stop consuming your own magic

-examine what exactly we did to hide our magic

-Increase the speed with which Cerys applies her armour

-we have a natural glow; try making it strong enough to blind others opponents with it

-Channel our auras through Infinity Edge

-Increase the damage reduction on Ignition Aura
--wrap it around you with the intent of protecting yourself instead of destroying?

-make more Ice attacks
--maybe shaping ice structures onto the battlefield?
--burning ice and molten ice?

-train in casting spells faster to unlock Double Cast and its derivatives, or Multi-Caster

-If you ever get the chance, connect to the land again

-buff the damage on our weapon
--as we did against the Scrants (IGNITION LEGEND)
---that used the End-Affinity

-find out how we managed to make lightning ping off of us when fighting Thunderbird

-the magic cloud
--have it become a shield in front of you, to End all damage hitting it
-- make it cold (Ice Aura?)
-- make it heal?
---test on something small (remember asking Morgan about that farm)

-replicate the feeling of warmth we get from Una

-go from Push to telekinesis (constant magical force keeping something in its grasp)
--have your sword float?

-turn the thermal energy from our flames into electricity; make lightning strike

-create something with Auto-Kill
--over the [End] Affinity

-try to create objects out of magic; try to make them permanent
--like sword?

Edit: The list of new magic shrinks while the list of improvements grows.

Hmm, what about channeling magic into our armor? We know our armor glows when we put magic into it, although it hasn't showed any proper effect. Maybe some more experimentation would get us a defensive version of whatever we did with our sword against the Scrant.

An idea I had is to make a quick burst of fire and try to solidify it. We've already made burning ice and molten ice, why not solid fire? It'd make a nice emergency shield if nothing else. If it works we could also try to do layered shields of both ice and fire. Maybe in a flower shape for bonus fancy points?

Another idea was to upgrade proto-boost to full boost by using both the swords and propelling jets of fire. We could use just jets normally and then include swords for extra sharp turns and such, or vice versa. The problem with that would be that the fire doesn't actually come directly from our body and thus doesn't give any thrust and just becomes a flamethrower. Maybe reinforce the swords with ice so they're harder to break?

I'd also like to try and see if we can change the shape of our sword. It looks quite futuristic, so I wouldn't be surprised if it could transform into some other kind of foot knight-appropriate weapon.

I can add that, but I doubt there will be much coming of it; we are still a DPS, after all.

We can just make a regular shield, no need to make it fancy and lose efficiency over that.
In fact, we can already do solid fire... it is just not really helpful in defending Cerys. Her armour is actually made from this and probably also the most we can make of it.

Already on the list... but this way to go at it sounds dubious at best. Not sure what exactly about it irks me, though.

That will get onto the list, but has low priority; something we can try much later.
Rukia already mentioned we can not change the shape that easily, after all.

Your Ignition Armour is made from this
I remember that we could upgrade the armour before, if we had the materials and knew how... I never understood how we should do that, considering that it is a part of Cerys.

Well, just have to vote for "can you make your armour stronger?" and hope for a good roll then.

Maybe dedicate a day to it over the weekend to have a bunch of rolls with lower DC? We haven't every really done something like that since we attempted to hide our magic.

Could you also add trying out some illusion/invisibility stuff using reflective ice and heatwaves etc?

We first need a day off for that, but yes.

Uh... okay?

Please keep in mind that we are not going for everything we can have, but for what is useful; we need to level this up once we have it, after all.

You cannot have everything.

We've already succeeded in making our sword float. We only had to use our magic control.

Can you explain this line?
When we did this.
You breath harshly as you shunt as much magic through your body as you can, sword lighting up with lines that stretch all the way cross your body, painting you in a harsh blue light. The air screams as your blade passes, brightly burning edge reaching for your target.

(Ignition Knight: +50 Infinite Edge, +13 Dice, +100 ???, x3 Crush = 489 Total Damage

Scrant 5: +25 Base Resilience, +1 Dice, -6 Armour Pierce = 20 Total Reduction

Scrant 5: 267 - 469 =
-202)

Your sword connects with the force of a freight train and the world cracks slightly as your give your all to End these things. You see the cracks spread through its body, reaching in impossible ways as you push your magic. Then, it shatters, pieces falling into ash as it disintegrates before the heat your blade was giving off.

Edit: We channeled our magic inside our sword until both our sword's and armor's circuits glowed, then somehow used our End affinity to disintegrate the Scrant.

IC, you didn't even notice.

I... see?
This is normally handled in the way that if the players notice and mention it in the vote, the character does as well. So I thought it would work the same way here...

But okay, I can just change the line a bit or file it away for later.

It now reads like this:
--[X] See if you can make your strikes or your sword stronger to kill these things faster
