Jalente System, Aetelian Sector, Ultima Segmentum. 728 M41. Arriving ships are common sights in the Jalente System. Mostly in the form of cargo ships, arriving in the system´s sole inhabited planet in order to pick the agriworld´s bounty to feed the neighboring Systems. The rest of them are either occasional patrols of the Imperial Navy or vessels that appear to be of the previously mentioned group destined for the Inquisitorial fortress hidden in the planet. The ship that arrives does not belong to any of those groups. It is a mighty behemoth of the stars. It´s length, measure in kilometers, covered in guns and hangar bays. Mighty engines propels it across the void and powerful shields protect its hull. A glorious and ancient symbol of Mankind´s Might. At least that is what it should be, for it is clear that the ship´s state is far from pristine. Entire decks split open, venting materials and corpses onto the cold void. The engines flickered and sputtered, barely moving the ship at a glacial pace. The Inquisition immediately shifts into high alert, for wounded or not, it is still a Battle Barge of the Adeptus Astartes. In the fortress control room Inquisitor Abraham Harker, century-old veteran of the Ordo Hereticus, presents an appearance of calm that he doesn´t feel. There are plenty of reasons for why an old Space Marine Battle Barge would appear in orbit of an unassuming Agri-world, and none of them pleasant. In the best-case scenario, there was a threat nearby mighty enough to put such a dangerous vessel to flight. Worst-case scenario, the ship was hostile and the planet was about to face an invasion by desperate Chaos Marines. "We´ve got it´s identification codes!" Announces a menial, and the pallor of his face tells Abraham to brace for the worse. "It´s the…" Choose your Legion: -[] "Rising Aquila of the Emperor´s Children!" The sons of the Phoenician were a Legion of skilled and cultured warriors, graced by the Emperor with the honor of using the Aquila as their symbol. Tragically, their search for perfection turned into a chase for ever-increasing hedonism under the gaze of Slaanesh. Not that the warriors in the vessel know that, their ship lost to the Warp just before the Cleansing of Laeran. -Stat bonuses: +1 Weapon Skill, +1 Agility. -Traits: -Exacting Standards: Each Marine is dedicated to the improvement of their skills, driven to achieve new heights of martial prowess. (Earns additional progress in training rolls.) -Serpentine Temptations: The Youngest of the Chaos Gods claims this lineage as his own, and even those who reject it feel its insidious whispers. (Both your marines and the people of your Sector are more susceptible against corruption from Slaaneshi sources.) -[] "Unbreakable Litany of the Iron Warriors!" Masters of siege warfare and attrition, the dour Marines of the 4th legion were experts in tearing down the strongest of fortifications by mass artillery bombardment and determination. Now seething hatred drives them to destroy everything they once fought to protect. This warriors haven´t succumbed to bitterness yet, lost to the Warp before the Rebellion of Olympia. -Stat bonuses: +1 Ballistic, +1 Intelligence -Traits: -Fortress Breakers: The strength of a fortification or the resolve of its defenders matters not to Perturabo´s sons, they will crack it open all the same. (Your rolls have bonuses when attacking enemy strongholds.) -Wear and Tear: The method of warfare of the Iron Warrior does not incline themselves to leave pristine equipment and their wargear is in constant need of replacement. (Wargear and Vehicles have a greater chance of breaking at the end of a conflict.) -[] "Fear of Judgement of the Night Lords!" The scions of Nostramo lurk in the darkness, wielding fear as masterfully as a painter wields a brush. Created as a tool of justice, the degeneracy of their homeworld and the madness of their Primarch has left them as lunatic sadists, terrorizing for terror´s sake. Yet there may be hope yet for these sons of the sunless world, lost to the Warp before the Destruction of Nostramo. -Stat bonuses: +1 Agility, +1 Perception. -Traits: -Terror in the Dark: The Night Lords are master of both stealth and terror tactics, and they strike silently and ruthlessly, leaving behind brutalized corpses and fearful survivors. (Penalties to enemy morale rolls and all marines can stealth, instead of only scouts.) -In the Grasp of Visions: Sometimes a Night Lords inherits his Primarch gift of precognition. However, their bodies can´t handle the strain the foresight puts on their flesh, and it kills them sooner or later. (Your Special Characters might get the Prophet trait, which can will grant them visions of the future but can incapacitate them during turns and will kill them in 1d10 turns.) -[] "Icon of Wrath of the World Eaters!" At the onset of the Great Crusade, the War Hounds were renowned for their fierce nature and loyalty to the Emperor. After the Butcher Nails were implanted into their skulls and they renamed themselves the World Eaters, they have become maddened butchers and feral devotees of the Blood God. These men can turn away from this fate, lost to the Warp before the battle of Isstvan III -Stat bonuses: +1 Weapon Skill, +1 Strength. -Traits: -Furious Melee: While no sane sentient enjoys facing Astartes at hand-to-hand combat, those of the 12th Legion are especially adept at vanquishing their foes at close quarters. (Bonus to rolls in boarding actions, earns a lot of additional progress when training Weapon Skill and Strength.) -Hounded by the Nails: Angron´s folly maimed his legion, and the subsequent branding of his gene-line by Khorne is felt deeply by all of his sons. (Characters from the Great Crusade have the Butcher Nails, your marines and the people of your Sector are more susceptible against corruption from Khornate sources.) -[] "Resilience of the Death Guard!" From the toxic mist of Barbarus came the sons of Mortarion, enduring all wounds as they march on unflinchingly. The schemes of their First Captain turned that same resilience against them, transforming them into diseased servants of Nurgle´s will. These warriors resist still, lost to the Warp before the battle of Isstvan III. -Stat bonuses: +1 Ballistic +1 Toughness. -Traits: -Determined Resilience: The geneseed of the 14th Legion grants its marine an improved resistance to damage, allowing them to survive wounds that would fell warriors from other bloodlines. (Your casualties have a greater chance to trigger sus-an membrane comas or interning into Dreadnoughts) -Pestilent Embrace: The Grandfather values most does who resist the longest before falling, and your corruption has been delayed for ten thousand years. (Both your marines and the people of your Sector are more susceptible against corruption from Nurglite sources.) -[] "Lesson of Wisdom" of the Thousand Sons!" Powerful Psykers and educated scholars, the sons of Prospero sought to bring forth a more learned and psychic Mankind. The manipulations of Chaos and their own arrogance turned those ambitions and most of their brothers into dust, puppets of the Architect of Fate. Those aboard this Battle Barge have evaded their own strings, lost to the Warp before the Burning of Prospero. -Stat bonuses: +1 Intelligence, +1 Willpower. -Traits: -Blood of the Crimson King: Even by the standards of Space Marine Librarians, those of the Fifthteen are particularly powerful and abundant, due to a mix of Magnus geneseed and the teachings of their homeworld. (Your Librarians have improved stats; psyker neophytes have a reduced rate of rejection.) -Flesh Change: Missing the Rubric due to the millennia lost in the Warp, the old affliction of the Legion has returned, turning Marines into misshapen masses of mutating flesh. (Every turn you lose 5d10 Marines due to the Flesh Change) -[] "Lunar Glory of the Sons of Horus!" The Luna Wolves were amongst the greatest legions under the leadership of their Primarch, and stood head above the rest when Emperor raised Horus to the rank of Warmaster in Ullanor. To the regret of all, they followed the father they renamed themselves after into damnation and madness. However, an echo of their glory lives in these men, lost to the Warp before the wounding of Horus in Davin. -Stat Bonuses: +1 Weapon Skill, +1 Fellowship. -Traits: -Warmaster´s Charisma: One of the traits that influenced Horus election as Warmaster was his overwhelming charisma, which his sons have inherited in a lesser manner. (Reputation gains with other Imperial Factions are doubled, and losses are halved.) -The Four´s Displeasure: The Sons of Horus felt the Dark Gods displeasure when the Emperor slayed their Primarch, and this displeasure is even greater at those who deny them. (Your foes are strong, and forces beyond reality work in their favour) -[] "Unrelenting Zeal of the Word Bearers!" The first believers in the Emperor´s Divinity, the sons of Colchis planted the seeds of the Ecclesiarchy and achieved great deeds in the name of their beliefs. When the Emperor rejected their worship, they found darker, sinister things to direct their prayers to. These warriors still praise the Master of Mankind, lost to the Warp before the Burning of Monarchia. -Stat Bonuses: +1 Willpower, +1 Fellowship. -Traits: -Zealous Stewardship: These scions of Lorgar rejoice at the blooming of the Emperor´s faithful, and dedicate the single-minded zeal of their mind to protect them. (Start with Positive relations with the Ecclesiarchy, less risk of chaos corruption in their sector.) -First Heretics: The masters of the Seventeen consider themselves the true Priests of the Primordial Truth and your refusal of their abominable Gods drives them to apoplectic rage. (The rest of the Word Bearers Legion know of your existence, and won´t stop until you convert or die.) Inquisitor Abraham scowled, thinking over the situation and finding it grim. Despite the damage the battle barge showed, even a minor host with Astartes support would be enough to overwhelm the planets PDF. The meager garrison of the fortress would not help; secrecy had been its greatest defense. Praying to the God-Emperor in the privacy of his mind, he was about to order the astropath to call for help when the same menial interrupted him. "My Lord, they´re broadcasting a vox signal on an open channel." His first instinct is to order the menial to cut communications, wary of some kind of daemonic scrap code, but he suppress it. Despite the risk, any intel they can get from the transmission will be useful for the Imperial counterattack. "Patch it though." He commands. The menial does as ordered, and soon the sound of static fills the room, alongside the deep baritone of a Space Marine´s voice. "This is Captain… -[] Write in name: "…of the 516th Expeditionary Fleet to any Imperial Forces in the system, we´ve suffered heavy casualties and our ship is in dire need of repairs, we require assistance immediately!!"
