Interlude: The Great Game Part 1:
Interlude: The Great Game Part 1:

September 30th, 1796

You felt yourself feel lighter as you saw the great city of Frankfurt's smell reach your nostrils and the flaring stench of sewage and great… filth forced you to reek in revultion. It was almost a concerningly brilliant smell. A smell that once again allowed you to be reminded of the simple, yet extraordinary task that your husband and yourself were on.

A Peace that could finally help Europe heal from the nearly half-decade of war. And the answer to a crisis that had been brewing, entirely in Spain… a crisis that these wars have only exasperated, and made to the forefront of the entire world.

"You really think we need all this protection," Tallyrand stated as he rode next to you, behind Napoleon who stared upon the city. "You've brought half a brigade here, and another brigade is less than fifty miles away from here. Some would think you plan to attack the city?"

"Let them believe what they wish, I hold little in the way of their desires or rumor. I will protect myself and my people in the way I deem fit. If they do not see such measures being taken after events in France, they will only see paranoia. But this is not paranoia. We are in a hostile city, with men who were only months ago, been at war with each other. Men would see me dead, then have me hosted at this conference."

Napoleon paused before you shook your head. "I would have liked for Someone other than Ney to be head of this guard." You voiced your displeasure as General Ney rode away, out of earshot and words. "He strikes me as a man who still does have his head seeking glory than our protection."

"That is because you have not seen the way he reads the battlefield," Napoleon replied with a smile. "Your worries are not unfounded, but I believe that with a night under his protection, you will see why I hold him in such confidence."

You rolled your eyes. Always with confidence. But then again, Napoleon had sent Murat down to you with confidence, and he became the First Knight of France. "I would rather have another man… A man I trust."

"Than trust me dear." Napoleon replied. "I would not make him the commander of my guard for this mission if I did not have full confidence in him." He sighed. "I would feel the same way with Dumas, or Severin, or Davout."

You shook your head. "Maybe it's just because I do not know him that well."

Napoleon shook his head. "You will learn him well, I promise you that."

Crossing into the gates of Frankfurt, you could see the princes and ministers of Europe gathered in front of the great castle… and the pitifully small retinues that they had brought with them, dwarfed by the army that Napoleon had brought.

Napoleon dismounted himself like a common soldier, before helping you down and keeping you close in his hand.

Everyone was stunned. Everyone watched…

And than Talleyrand spoke… reminding them all why they were here. "I believe we have a conference to attend to. Where will be staying?"

The servant walked forward. "Sire… The… Master of the castle wishes to inform you that…" He stuttered and paused. "There is no room in the castle… for your eminence or his retinue… that they would… require… outside lodging."

That made Napoleon's nostril's flair, but you squeezed his hand, preventing his temper from getting the better of him. "Very well." He looked to Talleyrand. "Minister, this entire debacle seems to be greatly… dissatisfying. Would you speak with the master of the castle… and find suitable accommodations for myself and my wife."

Talleyrand knew perfectly well what he was asking. Kick some princeling who had only been brought here to hold a room to make your husband… sit out… And make him sleep in a tavern. "Of course, my emperor. Will the Empress be joining?" He asked.

"I would rather stay with my husband." You replied with a smile. "Until quarters can be accommodated for us."

"As you wish." He replied.

This was going to be a long conference. And it seems they were already making moves to make sure you and Napoleon and Talleyrand would not be in the castle to coordinate your next moves.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thankfully, after only ten minutes, Talleyrand had managed to secure a few rooms for the PArty. "They know exactly what they are doing, they do not believe you an emperor, or an equal." Talleyrand replied. "But they are not stupid. They know they are on cusps of rebellion and revolution, they cannot just shove you aside."

"Yes, but it seems they have forgotten that we have brought their very nations down to their knees. I would surely and gladly do it again."

You frowned. "I think patience should be the better path of wisdom." You started. "They want you to be seen as the unreasonable party… do not give them that opportunity to turn the engines of war back on, and you as the man they despise. It is bad enough we need to… deal with this."

You did not feel comfortable here, not among these people, not among any of them, save the soldiers who were here. Who understood and… well they despised you… a woman soldier. But you were not deterred, and their respect for you only grew with every passing minute.

"I shall be off… and I believe we will meet again, to plan." You stated.
-----------------------------------------

What do you do?:

[]The Many Marriage proposals of Louis Capet: You have been... forced to endure the mind-numbing proposals from the other Crowns of Europe, that wish to bind Louis Capet... no Auclair, to their name.

[]To Join The Emperor: Napoleon may not have strictly forbidden you from entering the negotiation room during this meeting, even though he wished for you to not be involved and leave it to him and Tallyrand, but you are feeling quite adventurous in your skills and you wish to be there. if not as a voice, then as a pair of ears.

[]Ideas and Old Enemies: The Duke of Brunswick is here in the city, and you wish to remind him of his failures, and perhaps you can make the man not try to shoot arrows at you before a battle.

[]The Trail of Guns and Bankers: You have an inkling of an idea that the group who sold you guns is at least partially based in the city. Too many things add up for you to not try and snoop around.

[]The Hero of Two Worlds: The Marquis de Lafayette? He's here? You've always heard stories about him but have never had the honor to meet him. You must meet him.

AN: Enjoy.

I'm a Lafayette sucker, mostly because of my love of World History and somewhat because of my past Hamilton phase, lol. LAFAYETTE!

I got no alert for this for some reason

I want to hear what they have to say, and see if we can make contacts. Maybe even see a little of what they plan to do before the conference.

We've got half a brigade in the city right now, and no Intelligence agency in France, or deniable assets that can do it. The trail is cold enough already. The chances of getting Lenin'd are to high if we let Rob be, even with his unpopularity in France.

Edit: On second thpught, the soldiers would be too conspicuous. But still. We gotta find Rob soon.

The other options are so tempting, but this one catches my eye in importance.

As much as I would like to select La Fayette or Brunswick options, I belive what we need to do is either go for the bankers (and potentially Rob) or make sure Napoleon does not turn all of Europe against France again.

So

I was hoping for a little more discussion but I like the fact the voting continues.

Actual work and meeting someone who's bound to be interesting at the very least. Seems like a good combo.
