Blackadder: Consul and Conformity [Part 1?] (Whumbly)
Blackadder: Consul and Conformity [Part 1?] @Magoose

Blackadder: Sir, I have returned with the items you requested, though I was surprised you asked for them. You're not the most avid of readers.

Prince George: Yes well it depends on what's in them, plus they come with some saucy pictures to balance out the boring bits. Any trouble getting them?

Blackadder: Well sir, this is a collection of foreign novels about our most dangerous foe in France, an avid revolutionary, a modern day amazon and an enemy to all this great Empire stands for. In short they are scandalous, romanticised French propaganda and as of two weeks ago highly illegal.

Prince George: So very difficult to find?

Blackadder: Not particularly sir, every book shop in London is selling copies out the back. Seems scandalous, romanticised and now illegal translates to 'the must have item for any member of the ruling autocracy to display proudly in their homes'. What is it about a woman in trousers that makes people loose their senses?

Prince George: Well there was her successful campaign in Sicily.

Blackadder: Your Majesty, to put it bluntly the state of the Sicilian Army makes me believe they could have been defeated by Baldrick armed with a particularly sharp turnip. It's not something that should cause the Royal Navy, the finest maritime institution since Biblical times when Noah managed to built a Ark both too big and too small for the task, to universally adopt pantaloons of a particular shade of brown.

One thing I do wish is that the obscure figures of OTL be more prominent, it does kind of get grating having everyone prominent IOTL still be so prominent here. At the very least, someone besides Robespierre, he's had his chance to shine, and I'd prefer someone else right now. Maybe Dubois-Crance since he was a member of the National Convention and an actual soldier, plus the rapid promotions and amalgamation that helped France win the wars were his idea. Maybe Saint-Just, try to see if he really can make the sword bow before the law, as Michele claimed he could've done. Or hell, try an actual Jacobin general like Jourdan.

It's only suicide if it fails. As you can see, it's not.
And yet, somehow, it worked perfectly.

The Dice, they are crazy.
We are lucky... Very lucky that the Sicilians were shit at war. And commanding.

And the Boys were good.
.....Alexander.....Cyberphilosopher......I could kiss you both. Can just hear the narrator voice perfectly.
Now I know Why Cyber wanted the days off from writing an update.

Give me a title and I might call it an omake where you get a bonus.

Crance is someone we have been struggling to find a voice for when we wish for him to appear... I will say he is the minister of War right now, but he has not really appeared on page because we're struggling to find the voice that would be acceptable.

Saint-Just actually is prominent in different ways yet to occur and one we have interacted with before. In fact, he's extremely important in upcoming storylines with the Army in France, if we choose to return. Or even if we don't.

As for Jourdan, he's still extremely prominent, and he was our superior for a while, before we were reassigned, and is also someone we have plans for in the future.

Same with Saint-Cyr, and Hoche and other... Generals who have not gotten their chance to shine.

I really don't think finding the right voice should be too much of a concern. Napoleon has been psychoanalyzed and examined for more than two hundred years and he's still an extremely hard character to write, this probably would be worse with someone like Dubois-Crance who is rather obscure compared to folks like Robespierre and Bonaparte. So, I say just try to give him a personality that people can enjoy, this is historical fiction, and like you said, this piece of historical fiction sure as hell ain't aiming for historical accuracy.

The problem for me is, there is so much, that it's still hard to do, even with Cyber being the best Co QM you can ask for.

Even we get bogged down with... certain ways we wish to do things.

And those disagreements lead to more... well historically relevant/ known characters showing up because we cannot decide on who should get into the spotlight.

BTW: Cyber has prepared something fun in the coming update.

And he's very proud of it, despite my cringe at it.

I do find the obvious pop culture references cringe inducing. Really felt like groaning reading about Captain Hans Gruber.
Even though that is a real name. A famous one from pop culture but a real name nonetheless.

you must remember that we had magical girls in dreams.

and to be honest if I really wanted to be groan enducing, I would have done a people die when they are killed from Chamans during his butchery. :V

Felt like a real brief mention for something horrific. Would've thought we'd get an extended view of him committing murder on civilians.

Scared you'd get in trouble if you showed it in full view?
More like it's something logical, considering we where seeing everything in snippets and these kinda things don't get mentioned 'till later?

Yes.

I actually got sick when I finished writing it before saying it would be best not to show war crimes. Despite me believing that it would fully fit the mature tone of the story and remind everyone that war is not just victory.

Also, this.

It's perfectly fine, you don't have to push yourself to write it, if you can't or don't want to.

I do think that a way to get past that would've been presenting every battle as a report of the representatives on mission to the government. Would be plausible deniability on the more fantastical elements that it's just them playing it up for propaganda purposes, but I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of the quest, doesn't it.

And on violence, I don't think you should be too worried. So long as it's not presented as awesome or cool or desirable, you should be safe from getting in trouble. I've seen hell of a lot of descriptive violence in other quests and it chugged along just fine.
