Pocket watches have existed since 1510AD. I'd be surprised if officers don't carry them as standard, or privately owned examples if not, given how useful they are.
They actually only started using them militarily from what i could find in 1870 by the prussian army. They would be super useful for timed assaults when we don't have any way to reach the other side of our army we use the time instead to commence an assault at the same time.

It could easily be made into a commanding officer thing like in FMA for the state alchemists, but it doesn't have some super-sterioid inside of it.

Even though, despite Robe being blamed for the terror (and Brian's own blindness to the political reality of the situation when he couped the first time that color his perception of the man)

Robe is far more sane and reasonable then what the Anglo Bonapartist historians view him as, and many of his ideas are still etched into Frances ideas of the revolution.

and I would argue is far more important then Nappys contribution in a sense.
On the other hand, it also can't be denied that he went nuts at the end. And I'm not sure if I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he won't do it again.

He was pretty trigger happy before going nuts. A guy that thought blood and fear was needed. Obviously you need some type of force but if that's all you are going to use?.....Yeah that how you get bloody revolutions that turn on other revolutionaries.

Dude, we just performed a coup d'etat, twice, and the second time was on a legitimate democratic government, I really don't think we have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to morally dubious actions.

I thought you wanted more morally dubious situations that make us think about what is to come?

Because in a sense, the fact that the army was not paid kinda put the entire government on thin ice.

Cause when there are men who fought, bled and died for the Republic, in the army, and receive absolutely nothing for it, Im pretty sure the Army and those men were at least partially justified in their actions.

I can safely say that if I had money withheld from me after I did work because they decided they were going to just kick my ass to the curb, then gave me half of what they owed me, I'd be willing to burn something down too.

Technically, we only co-opted the second coup by popular demand, which was done spontaneously by actors only loosely affiliated with us (as in, we're both part of the army's officer corps). And said democratic government undeniably caused the coup when they decided to screw over the army that had been nothing short of essential to their survival since day one.

The problem is that the quest made it out to be a good thing that a bunch of soldiers forced themselves on the nation, no matter how pissed off you are, I'm not too sure that overthrowing the government is what one would call a reasonable course of action.

Some would say the Government was ignoring the soldiers rights from their promised payment. Which is very undemocratic. Not to mention the Government is arguably not really doing their jobs.

First off, WE (as in Therese) didn't do anything, Brian and Napoleon did.
Second, I'm not saying we should coup immediately or something. I'm just saying that we should keep an eye out and be ready to act in case Robby decides to go on another Head-Chopping Spree.

We're just one person, a rather important person reacting to the world around us, and we can choose to make choices based on our ability to react to our changing situation.

I think that's been pretty obvious since day one.

I should also say that Therese's Relationship with both those men, color her perception of the events, to a more skewed turn where her brother and his buddy are more heroic or at least justified in their actions.

She most certainly would believe that there is a damn good reason for those two to do what they do.

Makes sense, but I meant that Therese herself didn't really have a hand in what they decided to do, even if she personally sorta condoned their Actions in private.

Yeah Therses probably sees herself more a soldier than anything. Very much cares about the soldiers that are fighting. Like a mother caring about her kids. So if she heard the Government isn't paying the soldiers that basically saved their lives? Yeah she'd be more on the side of the soldiers.

Question, was the whole coup thing based on the Newburgh Conspiracy? You know, the Continental Army was unhappy because they haven't been paid and they still didn't get their pension, but Washington somehow managed to talk them down?

Yes.

Only there was no Washington to stop them.
I do feel like that taking a point of crisis from America and applying it to the wholly different First French Republic isn't the best course of action. France and the USA were wholly different entities, despite both being republics, one was a lot bigger and less populated, the other was the exact opposite.

Taking inspiration from a historical event across the pond and using it as a basis for a potential shake up just felt like a good idea at the time.

Besides, I thought it could open up more... pressing needs to start looting and pilliging across our campaign, as we are forced to pay, supply and make sure our troops don't go deserting on us.

Cause you know, France is not going to be footing our bill anymore.

Inb4 we won the election as new 3rd consul via write in ballot.
You say that, but we have Reputation bonuses, unlike many other candidates.

and Brian's out... So... Possibly.

That will happen after this turn.
What's next, Napoleon's campaign slogan being "refaire de la France une grande puissance"? :V
We are still a great European power Nappy!

Unfortunately, we're just not the undisputed great European power.

Not yet at least.:V

democracy is nice and all,but is the democratic government is actively worsening people lifes i take coup over them

i just hope we can do some sort of transitional authoritarism instead of dealing with napoleon dictatorship or robespierre terror republic

Does feel like we're trying to have our cake and eat it too. We want the glitz, glamour and ruthless efficiency of Napoleon's empire, without the dark bits that made one question it, while also wanting a democratic republic.

If you want just sacrifice some goats for some 1s and we will start having a rough time. Besides we are doing good because of crazy good rolls for us and all our enemies getting absolutely terrible rolls. Its kind of impressive how terrible at this point.

*Looks at the finished rolls for certain things that I have prepared for France*

I mean, I could lower all the rolls by -10 if you insist.

Then things will really go to shit for you all.

like... Well, you'll see if you want.
