Question on why Brian is apparently so respected by the officers, isn't this the time where literally everyone was rapidly rising through the ranks due to most of the officers fleeing? I mean, a hell of a lot of high ranking officers in the French army at that time were in their 20's. I mean Hoche was promoted to general at 25, Napoleon also around that age and a hell of a lot of other people.

3 Reasons.

1. He helped win Valmy, and even though he wasn't Therese, it got him some brownie points.

2. He's been very competent, and most people under his command (Officers and infantry/enlisted), are treated well, thanks to his excellent logistics thinking, tactical understanding, and him being... well, not a noble.

3. Really, he's also, kinda just... a decent guy to be around. He's kinda the poster boy of the French middle/working class military hero...

Not trying to be a cultural hero or such like Therese... and since he really has no real political ambitions, he's also someone a lot of young officers can work with.

(Note, this is before this coup, so perceptions of him, can, and will change)
