Hope will never die a Fire Emblem Awakening quest
Prologue
August 2618, Halidom of Ylisse
The pale sun of autumn is shining over Ylisstol as its people gather in the streets to celebrate the return of their heroes. After two years of war, the Ylisse army, spearheaded by the Shepherds and led by their Exalt, managed to do what was believed to be impossible : not only to repel the Valmese invasion, but to bring the fight to them and to put an end to the dreaded Walhart the Conqueror and his ambitions. Finally, for the first time since the murder of Exalt Emeryn, the country's future seems assured, leaving the common folks free to cheer to that newfound peace, and for some families to finally be reunited with their loved ones.
That is definitely your case. As you wait at the top of the stairs of Ylisstol palace, you can barely contain your impatience, shifting your weight from one leg to another, uncaring of the small disapprobation levelled your way by your tutors. It seems to you your heart is about burst out of your chest, no matter how many times you try to convince yourself that after two years of waiting, a few more minutes don't mean much. Behind you, you can feel your younger sibling caught in the same struggle. Is he plagued by the same questions? After such a long time, what if you can't even recognize them? You remember their faces... you think. And what if they don't recognize you, you think with dread. There's no way that would happen... right?
Your dark thoughts are interrupted by the growing clamour, making you aware of your surroundings once again. After a few more agonizing instants, the crowd in front of the palace parts at last, giving way to a small group of men and women. When your eyes catch the figure leading them, you realize how much your fear of not recognizing him was unfounded.
"Father!"
Self control thrown to the wind, you rush down the stairs toward the Exalt of Ylisse, whose face is now split by a wide smile at your sight. In your haste, you miss a step, only to be caught in his warm embrace.
"Lucina. I missed you so much."
And just like that, your foolish fears are cast away. Chocking back a sob, you reluctantly take a step back, face to face with a kneeling Chrom. You try to keep a somewhat formal tone, as is expected from a princess of Ylisse, but your huge smile and shining eyes make any attempt at solemnity doomed in advance.
"Welcome back, father!"
Once again, you're pulled into his arms, just before catching another figure walking towards you, beaming, and your expression instantly matches hers. Quickly releasing Chrom, you prepare to greet your mother...

Introduction :well, welcome to my second quest! The first one is... kind of stuck right now, I'll admit. Maybe I bit more than I could chew, even if I still hope to resurrect it one of these days (your time will come, Zaal'Koris). But I do hope the extra experience I gathered since then will help me to manage it better this time!
Anyway! As you probably realized, this quest will put you in charge of Lucina, currently age seven, to guide her during those dark times extra peaceful times where nothing bad ever happens, honest. Okay, there might be small dark dragon problem somewhere in the future, but really, how hard could that be? Now, concerning the mechanics, well, that's partly your choice :
[] The winds of fate are ever-changing (dice rolls will determine the success of most actions)
[] Destiny is a river with a strong current (free form, success and failures are dictated by the narration and influenced by stats)
Do note that no matter the choice, the Fire Emblem mechanics will be mostly absent, because I'll be honest, it seems like a nightmare to keep track off. Expect a far more streamlined version. In particular, the class system is basically gone, so you don't have to worry too much about eugenics when it comes to selecting your parent! I will also probably end up taking liberties with canon, especially when it comes to timelines (those are pretty vague to begin with, so that should be okay... I think). Also, it's still a long way from now, but your future might or might not includes crossovers, a vote will be held in due time.
Finally, every advice and criticism is welcome. My English, for one, is far for flawless, so don't hesitate to point out my mistakes on that front ; likewise, anything that you think might improve this quest's experience will at least be considered. But that's enough talk for now, have fun!

Falchion (sealed), last memento of your late father
Cu, your personal wyvern
A card representing Marth the Hero King
A lightning tome, battered and used, to exercise with
A knife you forgot to give back to Gaius
A jade bracelet, supposedly blessed by Mila
A heal staff from Lissa
Einherjar summon - Marth : can summon Marth through his einherjar card for eight hours a week. Summoning his spirit takes five seconds, and his consistence is somewhat frail.
Born on the Battlefield: well, not quite, but you birth came while the war against the Mad King of Plegia was still raging, with both your parents on the field among the Shepherds. While logically speaking, there's no reason it would affect you, it seems you do have an affinity for the more martial disciplines. Skills related to combat are faster to train.
Brand of the Exalt : as a scion of the exalted bloodline, Lucina carries the mark of Anri in her left eye. Any citizen of Ylisse knows the importance of that symbol, and will tend to treat its bearer with the utmost respect... On the other hand, most of Plegia's residents would react with hostility to that sight. (inactive if any effort is taken to conceal it)
Diligent Student: as it turns out, you're pretty enthusiastic about finding new things about the world, doing your best no matter the subject. New skills learned now come directly to E+ rank.
Princess of the Halidom: the tales of your actions are now known through the Realm. Despite your young age, you have proven you were worthy of bearing the title of Exalt one day, and your words carry a weight that very few would dare ignore. When interacting with Ylissean citizenry or nobility, your etiquette and leadership skills based on charisma gain one full rank.
Iron Resolve: you don't know what, you don't know why, but you know the peaceful days of Ylisse are numbered. That certainty come with many fears... but you refuse to be ruled by them. Immunity to supernatural and magical fear effects, people around might also benefit from this trait.
Two Worlds, One Blade: at only twelve, your mastery of Ylissean and Chon'sin style is nothing short of prodigious. Both styles are a part of you now, to the point where you have a hard time separating one from the other. Raising the Ylissean Royal Style will also raise the Chon'sin style, and vice versa. In combat, the advantages of both styles can be combined at the same time.
Training from Hell: Frederick rigorous tutelage have made you used to infernal conditions. Fatigue is something you are now used to, and you are able to ignore it... to a point. Fatigue-induced penalties reduced.
Exalted Will: even in the face of the deepest despair, you stand strong, and by your example inspire others to do the same. Immunity to despair-induced penalties, and people around you have an easier time doing the same.
Chosen by Falchion: even among the Exalted line, not everyone is able to use Falchion. The fact that the sword awakened to you instantly is a clear sign of Naga's favour... and of the challenges that awaits you. Can wield Falchion.
Chrom is dead. You will cherish his memory forever. Sumia : beloved mother, constant support Lissa : aunt, friendly, seems to be going through a hard time Robin turned traitor. Cordelia : godsmother, respected but distant figure Frederick : protector, trusted - but somewhat feared - teacher Say'ri : role-model, coolest swordswoman you know, seems to have taken a liking to you Cherche : wyvern! Virion : doting, albeit busy uncle, military expert Libra : spiritual support, patient teacher Maribelle : challenging teacher, problem solver, potential confident Tharja : enmity, distrust Tiki : source of wisdom, spiritual support Henry : eccentric mentor, hard to read, questionable wisdom Lon'qu : sensei; looks forward having you as a sparring partner Panne is no more. You regret not having really known her. Nowi is missing. The worst is almost certain. Gaius : relaxed acquaintance, more conflicted than you thought at first Stahl : acquaintance, food connoisseur
Cynthia : sister, deep trust, trying to find her place in your shadow Owain : cousin, close friend, deep trust, communicative enthusiasm Nah : recently returned, shared experiences as elder sisters Laurent : comrade, study partner (strategy) Severa : vitriolic best friend, training partner, provider of snark Kjelle : friend, self-proclaimed rival, training partner Yarne : would-be follower, caught between admiration and nervousness Inigo : recently returned, willing to learn swordsmanship from you, still shy Brady : friend, occasional meetings, no-nonsense attitude Noire : close friend, feels indebted to you, is pushing herself for your sake? Gerome : distant figure, seems unwilling to mingle Morgan : skittish around you

Call of the Sky: Cynthia seems to have inherited her mother's love of flying, and shows a great fascination for pegasi in particular. Skills related to pegasi and aerial combat are faster to train.
Brand of the Exalt: like her father and sister, Cynthia displays the sign of the exalted bloodline's pact with Naga, in her case on her right eye.
Shoes Untied: like mother like daughter. Cynthia seems to have a tendency to trip at random times, often despite the entire lack of anything to trip on. Is it any wonder she prefers to spend time flying?

Hero of Destiny! : Owain's taste for drama is hard to ignore. Still, he seems to make it work pretty well, even for himself. Occasionally, he can use Charisma instead of another characteristic to succeed at something he really should have failed.
Crouching moron, hidden diplomat: at first glance, Owain is absolutely horrible at reading the mood and seems to have a real knack for pissing people off. Yet somehow the reactions he draw from those around him often puts them in a better mental state than before. Surely this can't just be a coincidence? People regularly interacting with Owain will often see their current mood improve.

The (cruel) Mother's Gift: from a very young age, Noire had to endure all sort of hexes from her own mother. While those experiments made for a very unhappy childhood, it is true that as a result, dark magic has very little effect on her nowadays, only the strongest curses having a chance to affect her, and even then, with reduced effects.
Blood and Thunder: Noire seems to suffer from some personality troubles, perhaps as a result of her continuous mistreatments. When adopting her "assertive" persona, all her physical characteristics are raised by one degree, but all her mental ones are decreased by one. It can also make social interactions hazardous.
A Guiding Light: Noire has been inspired by Lucina, and is determined to work hard to follow her example... even at the cost of her own well-being. Raising combat-oriented skills is faster, but effects of fatigue are increased.

If at first you don't succeed...: Severa doesn't seem to have her mother's natural talent for... most things, really. However, she is determined to carve her own path, closing the gap with hard work and sweat. The reduced gains from training begin to apply later for her than for most people.
Hot and Cold: Severa has a rather fiery temper, never hesitating to say what's on her mind, which often leads to frictions with others; and in turn, she tends to try to keep people at arms length, as a way to protect herself. However, she is fiercely protective of those closest to her. Severa has a harder time raising her relationship values, but gains more benefits from it.
Whatever works: Gregor's pragmatic attitude seems to be rubbing off his pupil a bit. Severa seems to have little concern for elegance or style as long as the job gets done. Severa will occasionally use her Willpower value instead of the relevant skill value.

Taguel: Yarne can take the form of a feral taguel, greatly improving his speed and physical abilities. When assuming this form, Yarne sees his physical characteristics gaining one full rank, but is more prone to instinctual responses, and is less receptive to usual advices and instructions.
Weight of two worlds: Yarne is all too aware of his status as one of the last taguel, and that remains a heavy burden for him to carry. On top of that, his father expect him to one day take his mantle as a protector of the royal family, a role that Yarne feels he is unsuited for. As a result, he can easily lose his nerves under pressure, and is more susceptible to panic effects.
Last of his kind: with Panne's death, Yarne is now the last representative of his species, a fact he's acutely aware of. The simple knowledge that his death - a prospect that is becoming like a very distinct possibility in those dark times - would mean their complete extinction is almost overwhelming. Yarne will tend to prioritize his own survival, and his susceptibility to panic effects increases.

Made of Iron: being trained by Sully since birth seems to have removed Kjelle's ability to stop, ever. Fatigue-induced penalties greatly reduced, wounds-induced penalties reduced.
Behind you!: someone as tall and loud as Kjelle should have no business being stealthy, especially when wearing a heavy suit of armour. Yet she seems to have a knack to appear out of nowhere, usually to drag a hapless victim to a joint training session. Is this a genetic trait? Stealth skill never suffer a penalty.
Drill sergeant in training: apparently watching Sully making the squires of Ylisse shape up through sheer force of intimidation left an impression on Kjelle. People she teaches have their progress rate increased, but their current mood might worsen.

Thirst for Knowledge: Laurent have inherited a great deal of curiosity from both his parents. few are the academic topics that do not hold his interest. Scholar skills and skills learned through reading are easier to train.
Cool under pressure: Laurent seems to have an uncanny ability to remain calm even in the face of particularly stressful situations. Resistance to supernatural and magical fear effects, despair-induced penalties reduced.
Magical theorician: under the tutelage of Miriel, Laurent has become extremely knowledgeable about the inner workings of magic. Can identify magical effects with a glance; can attempt to dispel magical effects.

Lucina's Dexterity raised from D- to D

Sumia quickly closes the distance between you two, and once again you're caught in another very welcome embrace, while Chrom gets distracted welcoming his pega-pony-princess rushing right behind you.
"Lucina! My, you've grown beautifully!"
You grin, trying to blink through unshed tears. The scene you dreamed so many times these last months is now finally a reality.
"Welcome home, mother, father."
Chrom, still holding Cynthia, ruffles your hair, an approving expression on his face. Everything about him is exactly as you remember, down to the slight lump that plagued him since he escaped an assassination attempt.
"It's good to be home. And I see you took care of your sister well!"
You nod. If those last two years were hard on you, they had been worse for your younger sibling, who had a hard time dealing with her parents prolonged absence. During that period, you took upon yourself to be there for her, despite not quite knowing how. You can only take comfort in knowing you did the best you could.
"Well, let's not just simply stand there. Come on in! We have two years to catch up to!"
***
The afternoon came and went in the blink of an eye, spent on the lap of your parents, telling you and Cynthia of the wonders of Valm, from the hot springs of Chon'sin to the volcano of Demon's Ingle, not to mention the sacred Mila Tree – though you can't help but be a bit disappointed that your request to learn more about the war itself was met with a good natured 'maybe later'. Still, it's been a long time since you ever felt so light.
Right now, you're finishing dressing up for the celebratory banquet held in honour to Ylisse's victory. All the Shepherds will be in attendance, along with their families ; you admit you have rather hazy memories of most of the people who fought alongside your parents during this campaign, though you know most of them through the tales of their sons and daughters, whose company you grew up with. Besides, they were all heroes! You could only hope that your accomplishments would one day be worth remembering alongside theirs.
It was with no small amount of trepidation that you finally joined the dining halls, under the careful escort of your maids. As far as celebrations went, this one was rather informal - you've heard your tutors bemoaning your father's 'lack of etiquette' often enough to expect this, though you're not quite sure why this is a bad thing. All around you, you can see the familiar faces of your playmates, along the less familiar ones of their parents. Your own are each deep in conversation, Chrom conferring with Sir Frederick, while Sumia is busy chatting with Wing Commander Cordelia, while Cynthia is listening to the two of them with rapt attention.
You hesitate for an instant, not quite sure who to go to. You don't know most of the Shepherds all that well, and while it might be an occasion to learn about them, it's also a rather intimidating prospect. Maybe it would be better to seek the company of your younger friends? Speaking of which, you can see your cousin waving to you in the distance.
Whose company will Lucina seek this evening? (pick three) Is there a specific topic you'd want to discuss?

You end up making your decision when you catch the sight of a woman with pink-redish hair standing at the buffet, glass in hand, apparently waiting for someone. Truth be told, you don't really know her all that well – your memories are a little hazy, but you believe the war with Valm started soon after her arrival to Ylisstol – yet you don't think you'll ever forget the first time you saw that impressive armoured woman wielding an axe twice your size and riding a dragon.
Well, you learned since then it wasn't actually a dragon, but to a five year old girl, it might as well have been.
Back then, you had been far too intimidated to approach her. But now? Now you were all grown up, you could do this. You straighten your back, take a deep breath, and walk forth to meet her. Her eyes catch yours a few instants before you stand before her, and she turns a welcoming smile your way.
[X] Cherche
- [X] You and Minerva are SO cool! Were can I get a Wyvern? (ask the basics of Wyvern caretaking, how they met, more about Wyverns, more about Auntie Cherche)
"Oh, you are princess Lucina, are you not? I am glad to finally meet you!"
You hesitate a bit as you attempt to think of the best way to respond, frantically trying to recall your etiquette lessons.
"The honour is all mine, lady..." a blush spreads upon your face, as you realize you're missing one important piece of information here. "I'm deeply sorry, I do not remember your name."
That last part is almost whispered, and you can't help but ashamed of yourself. That woman fought besides Ylisse and your father, she could have saved his life during the last campaign for all you knew, and you couldn't even remember her name? What could she be thinking of you? Well, if her widening smile was any clues, nothing ill, at least.
"Ah, it's quite alright, this is the first time we talk, after all. My name is Cherche, and there's no need for formalities between us, I think?" You hesitantly nod. "Great! Now, Lucina, did you want to talk about something in particular?"
You nod once more, this time more decisively.
"Your dra- your wyvern."
"Minerva? What about her?"
"Well, this was first time I saw one. And I wondered... what is she like? Is it hard to take care of her? How did you two meet? Where? I..."
The questions come flooding, your usual composure and trained politeness washed away by the sudden surge of enthusiasm. And Cherche, for her part... Cherche is beaming.
"My, I see Chrom raised a fine daughter indeed! Or maybe I should thank Sumia in this case? So you like wyverns, Lucina?"
You acquiesce, emboldened by the clear approval you can see in her eyes.
"Yes. I mean, when I saw you on Minerva two years ago, it looked so..." You pause, trying to find a more dignified word than 'cool'. "... cool." You fail to. Cherche doesn't seem bothered by it anyway, far from it.
"Isn't she? Not many people can appreciate the beauty of Minerva, but I'm glad the princess of Ylisse is one of them!"
"Where can I get one?"
You almost blurt the question, eyes shining. Cherche takes a pensive expression.
"Well, it wouldn't be easy. As far I know, there's no wyverns in Ylisse or in Ferox. I heard there are some nests in Plegia, but I seem to recall they have been rather difficult neighbours as of late."
You can't help but agree. While you only have the faintest clues of diplomatic affairs, you can only remember that the only time you ever saw your father truly angry was while he was talking about the Mad King Gangrel. For that man to deserve your kind father's hate, things certainly should have been bad. He was dead now, of course, but still, you could see the unease the simple word 'Plegia' could cause your parents sometimes.
"Ah, but I'm sure it would be possible to arrange something out. There are a few places in Valm that I can think of. But for now, I seem to recall you asked how I met Minerva...?"
The next half hour goes in a flash. You gape at the tale of a young Cherche wrestling, then befriending a wyvern – barely older than you were, even! You listen with rapt attention at what she has to say about taking care of those beasts, or the tales of her exploits as a wyvern-knight.
She is in the middle of retelling an engagement she had against one detachment of Valmese heavy cavalry when, to both your disappointment, she is interrupted by the arrival of her liege lord.
"Cherche, I wondered if I could to you about... Oh, my apologies, I didn't see you had company. How fares you, princess?"
You return the bow with all the grace you can muster.
"I am well, lord Virion. Lady Cherche was telling me about her most recent accomplishment"
"Lucina seems to have taken an interest in wyverns. It felt only right to oblige her."
"Oh oh! No wonder you two seem to get along so well! I wanted to talk to you about some business in Rosanne, but I suppose that can wait. Shall I take my leave?"
[X] Virion
- [X] How are you Uncle? Wat'cha gonna do when you go back home?
You only have the slightest hesitation before shaking your head.
"Actually, lord Virion..."
"Ah ah ah! I seem to recall telling you there was no need for titles. Uncle Virion would be perfectly fine, though!"
You smile, before correcting yourself.
"Sorry, uncle Virion. I wondered how you were doing. Your lands are freed from their invaders, are they not?"
The nobleman seems slightly surprised, before giving you an appreciative nod.
"You are quite attentive to details, aren't you? I didn't expect you to remember those kind of things."
"Yes, maybe you could learn a thing or two from her, milord."
Cherche's interjection draw a loud gasp and a pained – and, you suspect, faked – expression from the archer.
"Milady, don't undermine me in front an allied nation's representative! What would Ylisse think of that, I wonder?"
Before you can reassure him that you would certainly not think less of him for such an innocent comment, he offers you a roguish smile – what for, you're not quite certain – while Cherche simply sighs lightly.
"But yes, you are quite right. Rosanne is free, which means I will have to go back soon enough. In fact, I am only here to discuss some points of details with your lord father about an alliance treaty. But I won't bore you with all the boring parts that it will entail."
He let out a deep breath, and for a moment, his face seems tired, and maybe a bit... afraid? But the expression is quickly replaced by a look of confidence and determination, more suited to his station.
"Truly, rebuilding a nation is a daunting task, one I hope you'll never have to take. I believe the coming months will prove to be quite exhausting. Still, I have a duty to the people of Rosanne. That is something your tutors must have impressed unto you, am I right?"
You can only agree. "A ruler's duty is to its people" was perhaps the first lesson you learned when it came to prepare you to the position of Exalt.
"Truthfully, I believe I'll miss those days of campaigning with your father and his Shepherds. Never a dull moment among them, that is for sure."
Once again, Cherche can't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Oh? I seem to recall you were singing a different tune during those weeks spent walking through the swamps of the southern marches. Or maybe it was just my imagination? Milord."
Virion can't help but to raise his hands in surrender.
"Peace, my dear Cherche! Truly, your cruelty knows no bound! Do you see what I have to deal with every day, princess?"
You're about to take the defence of the wyvern-knight – in your opinion, anyone would be lucky to have someone so amazing as a vassal – but Virion pre-empts you once more with a sudden raised finger.
"Ah! I just got an idea. Tell me, Lucina, I seem to recall you rather fancied swordsmanship before we left for Valm. Is that still the case?"
You nod, not quite sure where this is going.
"Then there is someone you have to meet. If you would follow me?"
You hesitate a bit, unwilling to leave the company of Cherche, but she nods approvingly, apparently knowing what her liege has in mind.
"You should go with him, I think you might be interested. And don't worry, I will still be in Ylisstol for several weeks. If you wish to come see me and Minerva, it would be our pleasure!"
With a grateful smile, you bid your adieux to the wyvern-knight and step behind Virion, your curiosity picked, as he guides you through the crowd. It isn't long before you come face to face with a regal-looking woman sporting long black hairs held by a headband, her face and garbs giving away her Chon'sin origins. As she gives you a curious look, the duke of Rosanne steps in.
[X] Say'ri
-[X] How swording is done in her country. You must be really skilled Say'ri! So COOL.B(Basic differences, principles behind it, etc.)
"Please allow me. Princess Say'ri, it is with great honour that I introduce you to princess Lucina of house Ylisse ; princess Lucina, I am glad to present you princess Say'ri of Chon'sin. … though I suppose it will be queen Say'ri soon enough."
Virion's voice had grown hesitant at the end, as if realizing he said too much. And Say'ri herself seems to grow distant at the word "queen". There was a pregnant silence in the conversation, before the foreign princess straightens up and break it.
"... aye, I suppose it is so. I am glad to finally make your acquaintance, princess Lucina. I have heard much from your father."
His moment of uncertainty apparently over, Virion once again takes the initiative.
"Young Lucina here shows not small amount of promise in the art of the sword. As one of the finest, and, shall I dare to say, fairest blade to grace our assembly tonight, it is my belief you might be interested in each other's company."
You widen your eyes as the nobleman's intent becomes clear. Say'ri, for her part, seems half amused, half exasperated by Virion's antics, but looks at you with an approving glance.
"Fie! Flattery will get you nowhere, Virion. And skilled blades are dime a dozen among the Shepherds."
"Yet I shall stand by my words. That practice duel with Chrom was one of the finest display I ever saw, and believe me when I say I have seen a lot of swordfights in my life."
Slightly embarrassed, the swordswoman is forced to concede the point, and you can feel your interest rising.
"So is it true that the Chon'sin style is entirely different from the ones of this continent? I've read a bit about it, but it's the first time I meet someone who uses it... Wait, maybe Lon'qu does, but he doesn't talk much, so I'm not sure. And I don't think he likes me. But you do! So, how does it compare? I read that a proper master could draw so fast that the eye can't keep track. Is this because of the shape of the blade? I saw a picture once, but never got to look at one from up close. Ooh, and lord... uncle Virion said you fought father? Who won? And what..."
Say'ri can't help but laugh at the sudden onslaught, and you suddenly become more self-conscious. This is already the second time today that your facade as a proper princess slips today, what would your tutors say? Yet despite the self-given mental reprimand, you can't bring yourself to care too much.
"Truly, 'tis a rare thing to find someone as passionate in the art of the blade! A pity that I left mine in my quarters, or I would have gladly let you observe it. Let us see if I can satiate thine curiosity, then?"
Once again, time literally flies as you question the foreign princess on which techniques her styles favour, and of the philosophy behind it. You don't even notice when Virion steps out of the conversation, only realizing he left when you try to ask him if Rosanne saw some Chon'sin swordmasters on its land. You kind of feel bad for having ignored him so, and vow to apologize at the closest opportunity, but right now, you can't bring yourself to leave the company of Say'ri, utterly engrossed by her words. The way she describes it, the Chon'sin style is more than a way of fighting, it's a state of mind, a way to discipline oneself. Somehow, this feels right to you ; it reminds of those time where you managed to lost yourself entirely in your sword practice, until some worried instructor came to "let you rest".
Still, while the theory is fascinating, you're eager to observe a demonstration. Say'ri doesn't seem to mind, and it is a simple matter to extract a promise from her to show you some of her forms the next time you'll seek her out. To your mild disappointment, though, your parents finally come find you, uttering the dreaded 'bedtime' word. Your attempts at calmly explaining that you don't feel tired in the least are met by an amused, but firm refusal.
The end of the evening finds you exhausted (ok, so maybe you were tired ; still unfair), but content. You couldn't be more glad for the people you got to meet today, and hope you'll get to learn more in the coming weeks. As Chrom carries you to your chamber, while Sumia does the same with Cynthia, you listen to your sister happy chatter abut Cordelia and the pegasus knights. You can't help but smile ; apparently, she too did find someone to entertain her. Slightly shifting positions in your father arms, you finally succumb to sleep's embrace. For the first time in two years, you feel like everything is right in the world.

seek out Say'ri to learn about Chon'sin style swordmanship
The arrival of autumn finds Ylisse in a cheerful mood. People drink to the health of their Exalt all around the country, and enjoy this new-found, hard-fought peace. As for you, you feel energized. While your parents were away, you did your best to do what was expected of you, but it was often hard to truly put your heart into it, as worried as you were. But they are here now, and you're resolved to do the best you can to impress them.

Right now, though, those lessons still leave you with a lot of free time. You are only seven, after all, and your tutors don't want to overwork you. How to best spend it, now, that is a difficult decision. (choose 6 actions)
[] Ask your father to train you : so far, your fencing lessons have been... frustrating. Instructors have been overly careful with the heir of Ylisse, and all in all, you don't think they believe those lessons to really be important for your education. You tend to disagree, and which instructor could be a better fit than your father, hailed as one of the finest blades of the Halidom? Plus, some father-daughter time appeals to you.
[] Ask for new teachers : you don't have anything against lady Armelle and sir Ogham, really, you don't. But those tutors, appointed in your parents absence, have trouble keeping your attention. Maybe you could ask if someone else would be available to teach you?
[] Meditate at Naga's shrine : you actually visited the place more than once these last years, always with the same prayer in your heart. Well, it seems that Naga heard you, for your wishes have been granted. Surely saying thanks is in order?
[] Spend time in the library : while books never quite held the same appeal as swords to you, you also know that knowledge is a necessary tool for any ruler deserving of the name. And at the very least, you are decided not to be a disapointment on that front
[] Any specific topic in mind? (no extra action)
[] Seek out Say'ri : she promised to teach the basics of Chon'sin style, and you're always eager to learn new things when it comes to swordplay. And given the fact that she'll go back to her homeland in a few weeks, it might be a long time before the next chance.
[] Seek out Cherche and Minerva : Cherche said she would show you how to properly take care of wyvern, and getting close to one fills you with excitement. As an almost unknown specie within Ylisse, this is a prime opportunity!
[] Flying lessons with your mother : Ylisse most famous unit, after the Shepherds, is without a doubt its Pegasus Flying Corps, who distinguished themselves during the campaigns against Plegia and Valm. Having one of its member as a mother means you're quite familiar with the winged horses, but maybe you could learn more?
[] Frederick's Fitness Day : one frustrating thing about being seven : being so small. Yet, in your eyes, that's no reason to slack off. It is only natural, then, to seek the stern guardian of the Shepherds for some early training. Still, you wonder why everyone seems terrified when you tell them about your plan...
[] Double down on your lessons : studying is one thing, but things worth doing are worth doing well.
[] Sword training (basic)

[] Quality time with your sister : Cynthia idolizes you, and you couldn't ask for a better sibling yourself. Yet, you feel like you spent the last months trying to be her mother during your parent's absence. Now that they're back, perhaps it is time to relearn being her sister as well.
[] Spend time with the other children : during the Valm campaign, most Shepherds sent their child to the safety of Ylisstol palace, where you learned to know them. Somehow, they apparently came to look up to you as their unofficial leader, probably due to you being the eldest. Dealing with so many diverse and colourful personality is a handful, yet you couldn't ask for better friends. Yet you fear now that peace has come, some of them might leave Ylisstol, depending on where their parents might bring them.
[] As a group : while you have no doubt you'll see them all again, it probably will be months before you have a chance to all be together once more.
[] Pick one (warning : others might invite themselves!)
[] Write-in : thinking hard about it, maybe there's something else you could do?
[] Special - slack off : some of these lessons are... hard to bear. Surely no-one would mind if you were to take it easy on some of them? Or even miss them? (doesn't take a chice, but instead gives one extra choice or each lesson you pick with this option.)
Wohoo, double update. And quadruple post. Hmm, not a good sign, that. Criticism are welcome!

While you're certainly putting in more than a token effort to please your tutors, you know your heart isn't really in it right now. Still, you're quite aware that the duties of an Exalt aren't always pleasant. So in a way, that's training?
No change... for now.
[X] Sword training (basic)
[X] Ask your father to train you
When your usual sword lesson is once again interrupted just as you feel you're getting the hang of it, your decision is made. The following hour sees you walking on your father's office, and request with all the aplomb of a seven year old girl that he'd help you in your sword training. To your absolute delight, he agrees pretty much instantly. Robin tries to warn him that such commitment could leave him with less time for his other duties, but Chrom replies that a man who doesn't have time for his own children would make for a poor ruler. Your father is the best.
You find him the day after in place of your usual instructor, and you spend a good part of the morning working through various forms, most coming from his own fighting style. While you're of course not allowed to handle an actual steel blade yet, you can't help but notice the new set of wooden swords is noticeably heavier than what you're used to. By the end of it, you've never been so tired after a session, but you're determined to keep it up. Through the weeks, you come to an understanding of the style practised by the royal house of Ylisse. It is an extremely taxing form, putting an emphasis on a combination of blinding speed and overwhelming strength, and your own stature makes it hard to really exploit its whole potential – for now. On the other hand, you're pretty sure this training regimen my help with your physical condition.
More importantly, you get to spend a lot of time with your father. After being separated for so long, you are willing to savour each moment. You don't even realize that you also start to mimic his posture and mannerisms until an amused Owain points that out to you. Once you realize he is right, you decide to keep doing it anyway.

[X] Meditate at Naga's shrine
Naga apparently listened to your prayers and brought everyone back home safe and sound. For that, you are well decided to show your gratitude. Once there, you are surprised to find a new figure in attendance ; you admit you only know sir Libra from what little Noire could tell you, but he manages to quickly put you at ease. Your first conversations are about his daughter – while it was necessary, he nonetheless regrets the need to stay away from her for so long, and is interested by anything you can tell about her ; it isn't long, though, until he questions you on your apparent devotion to Naga, and you feel no shame explaining it.
While he gently disabuses you on the notion that "everyone" was saved – the war has been brutal and bloody, and Ylisse's staunch allies, the Feroxi warriors, paid an especially heavy price, he nonetheless commends you on your dedication. In turn, you ask him about his work as a priest. Turns out it seems surprisingly simple. Most of his time is spent healing the sick and wounded, sometimes simply listening someone in distress. In the end, he says, the will of the gods isn't so hard to understand, it is just difficult to follow. It is an endless job, but somehow he doesn't seem to mind.
You still manage to find some time to meditate and commune with the Divine Dragon, which was the whole point to begin with. While you wouldn't say you're particularly devout, you were raised to respect Naga for the blessings she bestowed upon the Halidom, and on your family in particular. Also, you have to admit those moments of introspection are a balancing influence, especially after a hard day of training. A presence seems to loom at the edge of your consciousness...

[X] Seek out Say'ri
You're not about to forget the princess of Chon'sin offer. While training with your father is more than satisfactory, there's no such thing as "too much swording" as far as you're concerned, and the prospect of learning an entirely different school of combat intrigues you. When you come knocking at the first opportunity you get, you're lucky enough to find her available, and after being offered tea, you two join the courtyard for a first demonstration.
The exhibition leaves you awed. Say'ri's form is, for lack of better words, mesmerizing. The elegance and control of her swordplay is miles ahead the flailing of you and your friends, and you easily understand how she could have matched the Exalt while sparring (though you refuse to doubt the outcome. Father is the best). You know the point of sword-fighting is to be efficient, not to look good, but in your mind, there's no reason why it can't do both.
You exercise with a bokken for a few weeks, managing a crude approximation of the correct stances. Still, it's a start. The imminent departure of Say'ri, however, is difficult to swallow. You knew it was inevitable, but that doesn't make the prospect any more pleasant – it doesn't help that you genuinely like the other's princess company and the tales of her homeland. She reassures you by reminding you that you can always look out for Lon'qu if you wish to learn more, but you're a bit hesitant about that. The feroxi swordmaster seems rather difficult to approach.
The days of winter are coming to an end when you receive a surprise visitor. As you're about to leave your room to continue Lady Armelle's tutoring, you find a nervous Severa waiting for you outside the door. You try to remember the last time she seeked you out, and come out blank ; that is not something the daughter of Cordelia usually do. As she sees you, she straightens, as if asked to stand at attention, but words still seem to elude her.
"Severa? How long have you been here?"
She only shrugs off the question.
"Not too long. It's not important."
You suspect that this 'not too long' might have been, in fact, pretty long. You can't quite hold back a sigh. It seems she always do things the hard way.
"You know, you could have knocked."
"I know, I know, sheesh! I don't need you to tell me that!"
And now she's getting worked up. You never can't keep up with the mood when she's involved. Figuring out it might be better to let her work things at her own pace, you fall into a comfortable silence while she tries to figure out what to say next. Finally, the words come out.
"So... you spent a lot of time with your dad and lady Say'ri these last months, right?"
You nod enthusiastically.
"Yeah! It's too bad she had to leave, though. I still have much to learn."
"But you did learn. A bit, at least."
Severa bits her lip, clearly reluctant.
"Could you... I don't know, show me? One of these days?"
You blink. Somehow, you get the feeling that something doesn't add up.
"Wait, but didn't you say you wanted to train as a pegasus knight with your mother once she got home? How did that go?"
The young girl grits her teeth, and almost growl her response.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"But I thought-"
"Listen, it's not the point, all right? If you don't want to help me, just say so!"
And here she goes again. It seems you managed to make her angry once again. In fact, you have the feeling that happens most of the time you two talk. Does she hate you? But if she was, she wouldn't be here, right? Severa is... confusing, you think. Still, she asked you a question...
[] Accept : you're only a novice, but surely you could give her one or two pointers if she decides to start training with a sword. And maybe it's an occasion to get to understand her better. [] Direct her to someone else : you're not confident that she'd learn anything with you. Better point her out to someone who can properly teach her. Now, Say'ri is gone and father would probably be too busy, but good swordsmen are aplenty in Ylisstol, right?
[] Sir Frederick
[] Sir Lon'qu
[] Sir Gregor
[] Lady Sully
[] Refuse : you don't think you have the time or the skills, and you're not sure if Severa would appreciate simply being handed to someone else. Better let her find another teacher on her own if she's serious about this. [] Write-in
Split the update in two. You have something to vote for in the meantime.
In other news, since you started progressing in two different sword styles, I began to write a bit about different options for sword users that should be posted soon. Right now, I have full descriptions for the royal style, the Chon'sin style and an arcane blade style (basically, tactician style). Also working on a paladin style (tank tank tank) and a wandering hero style (the 'whatever works' style). If you have ideas of your own - or even want to rename those options, 'cause this was pretty uninspired - don't hesitate to share them with the class.
Also, look forward for the arrival of a relationship meter. Man, work never ends. Every comment and criticism are, as always, welcome.
Ylissean Royal Style : passed down through the Exalt line, this sword school is all about combining blinding speed with overwhelming strength. Its users tend to favour all-out offense, even turning each block into an opportunity to counter-attack. True masters of the style go as far as actually raising their stamina mid-fight while literally smashing through their opponents defences. Some scholars suspect this technique, dubbed 'Aether', is linked to the Brand of the Exalt somehow, but nothing has proved or disproved that theory so far. The style is extremely efficient to slay the most fearsome monsters, its heavy blows managing to pierce the toughest skin. Due to the rarity of its practitioners, most opponents are also unprepared to face it, and struggle to adapt. It is, however, a very demanding style, who can quickly tires its user, and loses a lot of its efficiency when faced with a physically stronger adversary. It also puts an heavy strain on the weapon used, who may be heavily damaged or even break (a problem entirely negated by the use of Falchion, though not every members of the exalted line had been able to wield the fang of Naga).
Known practitioners : Chrom (master)
Chon'sin Style : also called "the school of the strategy of two heavens as one", this discipline is rarely seen outside the borders of Chon'sin, where it was refined for centuries in order to create one of deadliest sword art there is. Fast, precise and everflowing, without a wasted move, the style is perfect to seize the initiative in a fight, often to the point where the first strike is the only one needed. Even if the battle continues on, a Chon'sin swordsman is able to quickly chains his attacks, rendering any defensive swordplay an attempt at futility. For the same reasons, it is a good style to use when outnumbered, able to pick up opponents one by one with lightning strikes while conserving energy. It is however of limited utility when used on the defensive, any parry putting an end to the sword's perpetual dance. It also has difficulties overcoming the heaviest armours, and works best when using Chon'sin curved, one-edged blades.
Known practionners : Yen'fay (master, deceased), Say'ri (master), Lon'qu (master), Gregor (adept), Robin (novice), Gaius (novice)
Arcane Blade Style : a difficult style to learn, it requires a good knowledge of magic as well as swordsplay to be effective. Its strength is the ability to infuse elemental magic into the blade used to augment its destructive power. It is however a delicate process, who needs constant control lest the user is to suffer a feedback effect. Excellent against armoured targets, whose protective equipment is often powerless to shield them from the blasts of magic coming from the blade. It is also quite good in a duel, where a single opponent can be the sole focus of the user, and is unconventional enough to catch most opponents by surprise (it is especially difficult to correctly gauge the range of its strikes, which can be increased at any time by an afflux of magic). This school tend to suffer when engaged in very high paced combat though, making it difficult to keep up the rhythm while channelling magic
Known practitioners : Robin (veteran), Gangrel (veteran, deceased), Ricken (novice)
Praetorian Style : favoured by most noble houses, this school of combat focuses on defence, letting opponents exhaust themselves against an impenetrable guard, before striking back with devastating counter-attacks. Often used in conjunction with a shield and heavy armour, it is a style that asks for patience and endurance. The best practitioners even manage to deflect or reduce blasts of magic. While the style is ruthlessly effective on the battlefield, allowing for prolonged fighting with minimal injuries, it is also one of the most common, and many styles are dedicated (or at least include a few specific ways) to overcome it. Still, it is often easier said than done.
Known practitioners : Walhart (master, deceased), Frederick (veteran), Stahl (adept), Sully (adept), Robin (novice)
Wandering Hero Style : this rather informal school of fighting is actually a strange patchwork of techniques, with the intent of making the style as efficient as possible. The main strength of this school is its impredictability, constantly switching the tempo of the fight. It tends to be an easy school to "learn", but hard to master. Conversely, most inexperienced fighters tend to panic when confronted to it, but masters of their crafts tend to be well acquainted with its tricks. Still, this passionate way of fighting can achieve splendid results, making an habit of triumphing against all odds. Its most adept users seem to shrug off wounds that should otherwise incapacitate them, and tends to laugh at small details like "numerical inferiority".
Known practitionners : Gregor (master), Basilio (master, deceased), Donnel (veteran), Gaius (veteran), Robin (novice)
Rough draft, but you get the general idea. Next time, spears!
[x] Direct her to someone else: EVERYBODY ELSE.
-[X] "Go around and watch all the other swordmasters, choose what you want to learn, and I'll introduce you to them. As the Crown Princess of Ylisse if it ends up needed. I can come with you to see them if you want me to?"
You hesitate a bit before answering.
"I don't think I'd be the right person for that. I am still learning myself, after all."
Severa's face grows grim. You can see her jaw clenching, and her eyes seem a little too bright.
"I'm sure we can find you someone who can teach you, though! Sir Frederick is very good, from what I've seen. Or maybe Sir Lon'qu? What about Sir Gregor or lady Sully? They're all extremely talented. All you have to do is pick one, I could introduce you..."
You're usually rather hesitant to take advantage of your title, but to help a friend, you're willing to make an exception. Severa, however, doesn't seem particularly happy.
"I already know them, thank you very much! Well, most of them, anyway."
She takes a deep breath, and you can't help but notice her shoulders are slightly shaking.
"... right. Would you want me to come with you, though?"
"What, so you can hold my hand? Thanks, but no thanks."
She begins to turn away, and you're honestly not sure what to do.
"Severa... I only want to do what's best for you."
"Yes, and like everyone else, you know what that is better than me. I..." She seems to bite back another angry retort, and you can literally see the fight leaving her. "Forget it, this was stupid. I got to go."
Before you can do anything to stop her, she is gone. You simply stand there, trying to reflect on what happened. You did the right thing. You know you did. So why do you feel so bad about yourself?
You don't see her for a whole week after that. You're beginning to fear that the bonds between you are definitely broken, when she shows up again in front of your door.
"Okay. If you want to introduce me, I'm okay with that, I guess."
Her voice is still flat. She can't seem to be able to look at you in the eyes. And you're pretty sure she's still angry (at you? Maybe). But you'll take what you can get.
still to be seen
[X] Seek out Cherche and Minerva
Another person you seek out before it is too late is the Rosanne knight, Cherche. Unsurprisingly, you manage to find her in the stables, where her mount was lodged. Minerva is... terrifying, but her mistress serves as a mediator between you two, instructing you on the best way to approach her without incurring her wrath. Trying to muster the courage befitting of a Hero King's descendant, you follow her instructions, and soon you can feel the warm scales of the wyvern under your palm.
Emboldened by the experience, you come back the following days, working as Cherche's unofficial squire as she teaches you how to take care of Minerva. It is hard work – you're becoming familiar with the concept these days – but learning about the pair is worth it, in your eyes. You're struck by how intelligent the wyvern actually is, though maybe you shouldn't be - after all, pegasi are the same. Still, when Cherche tells you she can actually speak to and understand directly Minerva, you have a hard time believing her. Until she demonstrates, leaving you kind of baffled.
(then the following day, you catch sir Vaike doing exactly the same. What the hells.)
As her return to Rosanne grow closer, Cherche claims she has a gift for you. You quickly find yourself in possession of a heavy leather tome, entitled Wyvere Physiologos, apparently compiling centuries of Valmese knowledge abut the beasts. If you want to keep learning about them, this should be invaluable, she claims. You thank her profusely for the gift, and wish her safe travels – while hoping you'll see her again sooner rather than later.

[X] Flying lessons with your mother
Those lessons with Cherche seem to have awaken a new want in you ; soon enough you hesitantly approach your mother to learn more about flying. She is, however, delighted, and almost drags you to the field as soon as you make your demand. Sometimes you forget how enthusiastic she can be about this. You're not surprised at all to see you're not your mother only prospective student. Near Titania, Sumia's famed pegasus, your sister is already waiting, and seems overjoyed to see you, cheerfully declaring that now, you can be a pega-pony-princess too. You're not sure how to feel about that, but you smile nonetheless.
Flying is truly an unique experience, and you have no trouble understanding why your mother and your sister enjoy it so much. You admit, however, that you're still a bit nervous when not having your two feet firmly anchored in the ground. Yet mother is quick to reassure you : whatever happens, Titania won't let you fall. In the coming days, you make notable progress, but you can't help but be rather impressed by your sister's ease in that domain ; she's truly a natural.
You three also spend some time taking care of the pegasi staying at Ylisstol palace, sometimes joined by Cordelia. In a lot of ways, it's like taking care of Minerva, only less scary. And you can see the bond linking the pegasus knights to their mounts is quite similar to the one Cherche has with her wyvern. It's... inspiring, really. You idly wonder if this is something you'll experience too, one day.

Special event : a gift from Virion
A few days before his departure, you receive a visit from Virion. Given that you haven't seen him since the celebration in the Shepherds honour, you find it pretty surprising. That feeling only grows stronger when he gives you a long wooden box – no, wait, is that a board?
"Well, princess, in light of my imminent return to Rosanne, I thought it wise to give you a little early birthday gift. Something to remember me by fondly, I should hope."
You quickly open it, and find three dozens of ivory-carved figurines neatly lined up, picturing soldiers and legendary creatures from worlds of myth. As you admire the craftsmanship involved, Virion speaks again.
"Beautiful, isn't it? Say what you want about Valmese, but at least they know their craft. This wargame proved to be a good distraction during those long days of campaigning. Most people wouldn't know, but war often involves waiting around a lot. Most people favours cards or die in those moments, but I always felt those to be a bit... simple. And truthfully, I dislike games based on luck."
You feel like protesting against his offer ; this is truly an unique piece, one who stayed with him for a long time, apparently. Is it really okay for you to have it? He apparently reads your hesitation and does his best to alleviate your concerns.
"Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the opportunity to use it much more. I might as well pass it on to someone who will. And if you ever come and visit me in Rosanne, I would gladly observe your progress first hand."
You cannot thank him enough, despite his protests that it really was "a trifle". You don't know yet who you may find as a playing partner, but you are quite eager to try this game out.
Option unlocked : Find a board-game partner
[X] Spend time with the other children
-[X] As a group
As the autumn comes to an end, you become acutely aware that soon, you'll be split up from many of the friends you made in two years. Gerome and Inigo are leaving for Rosanne soon. Laurent will be travelling with his parents around the continent for a few months at least. And apparently, Nah and Morgan will relocate somewhere in Ylisse's countryside soon – you're not entirely sure why, since as far as you know, Robin is staying in Ylisstol, and Nah seems to share your confusion. And doesn't sound terribly happy about that.
In light of that, you decide to gather everyone for one last time together. You quickly run into several problems.
The first is finding what to do. You make the mistake of asking the others for advices, and are quickly flooded by suggestions in return. Owain insist for a dramatic play about the life of the Radiant Hero. Inigo would rather attend a dancing exhibition. Kjelle dismisses them both and claims the best choice would be a mountain trip in order to stay fit ("some could use the exercise", she declares, trying very hard to not look at anyone in particular. Most take offense anyway). Yarne meekly suggest a forest trek ; Noire immediately threatens that if he is making her sleeping in a bush, his immediate future may be in peril. Laurent believes the most productive use of their time would be a trip to the library, eliciting groans from the majority of the group. Nah kindly remind everyone that Morgan is still a bit small for strenuous activities ; Owain claims it could be hero training ; Nah retorts that being eaten by a dragon is also hero training. Kind of. Gerome doesn't say anything, but let out disapproving grunts at every suggestions. Severa declares they're all stupid.
At that point, you feel the need to put your foot down. A camping trip, right outside Ylisstol. You'll ask your father for chaperones, but they'll remain at a distance. Inigo, if you want to give us a demonstration, we will all be glad to watch. Maybe Brady can provide musical cover? Kjelle, this is supposed to be a time to relax. Laurent, you can bring a book, if you want. Noire... huh, you're already apologizing to Yarne, okay then. Nah, don't eat my cousin. Gerome, don't hesitate to share your thoughts. Severa, be nice.
Once this is taken care off, you go submit the idea to your parents. They readily agree, provided you're given an escort, which is something you've been expecting. Frederick and Stahl are tasked to ensure everyone's safety, which should be enough to prevent any unpleasant surprise. Once this is done, you begin to wonder at the gear needed for your future gathering, only to realize you don't have the slightest clue. Fortunately, Sir Frederick does, and provides an exhaustive list of what would be needed for this camping night to be a success.
The night finally come, and you find yourself watching the stary sky alongside your friends in a rare moment of quiet. Morgan is fast asleep, under the vigilant gaze of her sister, joined by Noire in her vigil. Brady is playing a soft melody on his violin, earning the rapt attention of your sister and Inigo. Gerome is quietly talking to Kjelle, apparently more at ease than how you usually see him. Severa, for once, seems pretty relaxed herself, listening to Laurent pointing and naming various constellations. Even Owain seems pretty subdued, quietly talking with Yarne about the future. In the distance, you can see the small fire where Frederick and Stahl are camping, giving you all space.
Who do you want to join? (pick 2)
[] Noire, Nah and the sleeping Morgan
[] Cynthia, Inigo and Brady
[] Gerome and Kjelle
[] Severa and Laurent
[] Owain and Yarne
[] Stahl and Frederick

Dad v2.0. Still hits like a truck despite reduced physical stats. Currently has the same rank in Etiquette than Lucina, which is pretty indicative, really. Poor social skills, but Charisma A usually means he can get away with it. A hazard on a dance floor.

Good without being exceptional in direct combat, took the swiss army knife route. Pretty much grabbed all the skills (terrible at cooking and drawing, though, but enthusiastic about it nonetheless). I'm sure his list of traits won't cause any trouble down the line.

Yeah, the Shepherds didn't have fun with that guy. Bullshit pretty much all around. Clearly read a lot about religion, didn't like what he read. Yet another ruler with crap Etiquette, what's up with that? If you guys want a one-on-one challenge, you know where to look at.
