So, a few questions
There are people like Mercury's dad, but by all accounts his Semblance was utter and complete bullshit. Plus he seemed to be part of the accepted underworld rather than just a madman.
I'd imagined it as just regular armor, too. Could this mechashift armor be made out of Processed material from the outset or in the foreseeable future? That'd be sweet.
One of? I could easily believe our future nemesis's Semblance makes him uniquely suited to evading tracing and capture. But the authorities should have people with Semblances tailor made to finding mass murderers. And in a world where the fears of the public manifest as indiscriminate magical murder beasts, it seems like they'd be better at ending those responsible for publicly known multiple homicides.

So, I've had a picture of the Jaune in this quest having armor for a while. I conceived him of having Process-material based armor, so that he could form it on his person without having to wear it all the time, and so that he could 'heal' his armor quickly and completely.
I'd imagined it as just regular armor, too. Could this mechashift armor be made out of Processed material from the outset or in the foreseeable future? That'd be sweet.
Creme comes off as surprisingly bold and assured about her physical self for a woman of her age in this chapter (when put in the greater context that she wasn't trying to seriously flirt with Jaune, according to good ol' sword). Didn't really see it coming with what I remember of what's been previously written with her. Maybe it's just been too long since I read those parts?

Do you reckon that fiddling with Reboot might allow changes in the physical makeup of people brought back? Not like brain stuff but like, just remove someone's arms for a bit if they're being annoying before rebooting them properly afterwards.

We're dealing with a lot so let's keep this simple and push off the 'figure out how not to die wearing armor' issue to a later date when we have more processing power and a more upgraded sword to use to deal with it. If at all.

The appeal of Armor is pretty straightforward. It protects Jaune from certain environmental and Semblance effects. It adds a buffer for his currently somewhat lackluster aura reserves. And perhaps most engagingly, it provides many opportunities for practical upgrades and additions.
Few thoughts about environmental/Semblance protection and upgrades. We have a future nemesis who can fuck people up by touching exposed flesh. There are attacks that use vectors like light, sound, heat, and cold, which would be much less effective in holistic armor. The armor could also be upgraded to have additions like a retractable visor and gas mask, to protect from harmful gases and eye based attacks (from pocket sand to illusions).
The downside is the transition period, as advertised. But we're already prioritizing getting the healing function functioning, so things should go relatively smooth. And while having a sword other than Transistor would be good, Jaune can just make such a sword out of Process material, even in the present. Which he can use up until (when/if) he wants a more specialized sword.
The armor has the potential to be extremely versatile in the future. It also allows for some quirky options like freezing Jaune in the air with Freeze and faking enemies out by making inert process-material clones of our armored form. And of all the options it's the only one that provides a significant passive/uncircumventable defensive benefit to Jaune's fighting style.

@Prok can Jaune, and by Jaune I mean Transistor, drizzle advanced math to Ironwood and the Polendinas (or possibly Remnant's academia in general)? Obviously not the kind of eldritch MATH that calculates energy into existence, but instead the actually useful proofs and algorithms that are the prelude to the prelude of MATH. 20 years ahead of the curve instead of 200.
