And my question is How do we know it's contacting Zion unless we change the address?
We only knew Equilibrium changed her address because we were intercepting the pings to Zion.
There's nothing to say we would have known they were contacting Zion without the address being already changed.

Ok, I went back and read the chapter. It looks like we suspected that Equilibrium would contact Zion but didn't actually know whether it did until we changed the address. So I'm now changing the line to, "-[] If Shard is hostile, replace Zion's address with the maintenance address."
Edit: Also, OMG, could our Votes get any more complicated?
Can we please stop nesting if functions in our votes and do one thing per day instead of listing twelve under each Shard? My gods.
Vhalidictes has said that more detailed plans are better. I prefer to limit the number of plans instead of making shorter plans and then having to contact Shards over and over again to accomplish everything.
Also, plan/option detail is one of my criteria when deciding tie-breakers. More detail is almost always better - I read very quickly and a long and rambling plan isn't a problem.
Taylor is watching an image of herself playing a board game with Danny. They're both having a lot of fun and enjoying spending time together.
After a bit of this, the image of Taylor seems to be thinking hard for a minute before resolving herself to act. She tells her father that she's glad that they could spend time together because they've been so distant from each other for so long. She also admits that she hasn't had anyone else to turn to because something is wrong with Emma. Emma is not her friend any more and has instead been bullying her and getting the other girls at school to bully her too. She's tried to get the school to do something, but nothing seems to work and she doesn't know what to do any more.
Danny hugs Taylor and tells her that she's his number one priority, and he's going to do whatever it takes to help her.
Taylor dreams herself at a computer with the browser open to a "Design Your Own Cape Powers" website. The front page is filled with the ideas from the Power Design threadmark listed as designs created by previous visitors. At the bottom of the page, there's a link to start the process. This process actually takes you to the rules behind designing cape powers, which matches our own rules for giving out cape powers. It also mentions that there will be limits on the various info types to see how creative the designers can be. She can rate other user's designs or make her own.
Dream about Taylor/Claire, being friends, hanging out.

The thing about the gamer power is that people conflate the gamer power with the magic system from the comic-world it originated on, things like elementals, mana use, and dungeon creation aren't part of the gamer power they're just skills and rituals that anyone in that world could learn to do, slower and less efficiently.

What does "backdoor sense-sharing" mean? Is this one-way sense-sharing? The_GrandMage, can you please remove this line from the Empower and Vehicle votes?
What does "backdoor sense-sharing" mean? Is this one-way sense-sharing? The_GrandMage, can you please remove this line from the Empower and Vehicle votes?
No, it's the sense-sharing with ZIon's address replaced.
Sorry, I'm copy/pasting a lot of stuff since we apparently want to contact twenty goddamn Shards with nested IF functions and Vhal might be fine with this shit but it's the reason our voting is fucked and Tally won;t work.
Yes, it's the one-way sense-sharing. Did you not want to set up one-way sense-sharing with them if they're non-sentient, but give them fully accessed uncensored Host data? Fine, I'll delete it.
Thanks. I prefer two-way sense-sharing but only with non-sapient Shards. If a lot of people want only one-way sense-sharing, then I'll change my vote, but with two-way sense-sharing, we get info and then can ask the Shard for the info they got as well if we need to.
And you post right after I edit. No, yeah, the backdoor is the way that replaces Zion so it goes two ways and I don't even know what you want anymore?
Uncensored two-way? Two-way with ZIon replacement? One-way?
EDIT: Okay, everything has backdoor replaced with "sense-sharing with ZIon's address replace" because that's what everything should mean if I read the votes right. If it's wrong, respond after this post and I'll fix it tomorrow, after I've slept off staring at huge blocks of votes and dealing with struggling to format them since there are blocks of "do this for four different Shards" and Vhal needs them one at a time.
And you post right after I edit. No, yeah, the backdoor is the way that replaces Zion so it goes two ways and I don't even know what you want anymore?
Uncensored two-way? Two-way with ZIon replacement? One-way?
I was planning on uncensored two-way if the Shard is non-sapient and not hostile & Zion replacement with no sense-sharing if the Shard is hostile. That would limit the number of times we replace Zion's address because you were worried about it being suspicious that we're doing that. If a lot of people prefer a specific method, I'll change it to whatever the thread as a whole prefers, but it feels like whenever I try to come up with a plan to make one side happy, another side starts complaining.
The vote tally might work better if we change the name for plans with minute differences. A lot of times, people will add or remove a line but keep the plan name the same so I think the vote tally gets confused. Maybe we should instead do something like:
Plan "Variation-Replace Zion's Address"
Plan "Variation-Uncensored Two-Way Sense-Sharing"
I usually try to do that whenever I change a plan, but I see a lot of people not changing the plan name.
Okay, in the efforts of making voting a bit easier to follow along with, and for new voters to have a nice, handy guide of what votes are out there and trending to vote for/against, I decided to co-opt matters and start a post I'll be editing to keep current.
@Vhalidictes could we get an Informational Threadmark in the short term until this voting cycle is done? Thanks!
Now, I know what you're thinking, why not just use Tally?
Because our Voting is weird. Blocks have a lot of overlap. By Task is weird because we're not formatting the votes to do that, and by line has overlaps and get unconnected from their parents. So, since we need to manually get things done anyway, much better to just have it done in a manner updated regularly.
Anyway, please keep voting the standard way in case anyone wants to use Tally, or try to get us to vote in blocks that make sense with Tally. Maybe tag me in a post to let me know you changed your votes if you do so I can edit them? Making sure I know what you decided to stop voting for is super helpful so I don't have to play guessing games.
You can vote for or against any specific line and I will try to get it right and link to the post you vote in with your name to make it clear who is voting for what and where that vote came from. This way, if you want to debate an option before voting on only that then moving on to the next topic with fellow Questors I can make that work.
Not sure how much my own experience applies here, and I know full well the way I like to do things is weird. But, honestly, votes like that aren't as big as the ones in Halping Quest could get. Had the same problem too, where all the conditionals and sub-conditionals were what was padding the length.
The problem was that players felt like they didn't have enough information to make informed decisions. The problem with that is more information will always lead to more questions, so any solution ends up being recursive up until the point when all possible permutations of the plot are explained, which is otherwise known as the end of the story.
As best as I can understand, the solution is to link information gathering with story progress. Whatever the means of gathering information are, the result of getting that information pushes things along. Normally, this would lead to paralyzing indecision for the players, since we all to a one want to leave all of our options open and also want to harvest information before picking the best possible option. Which is bad.
What you do then is make it so that time passes while gathering info. Spending too long in one place to figure out what happens results in another opportunity slipping by: in other words, the act of gathering information on a particular option is treated as committing to that direction. They can still back out and try a different direction, but options continue to slip away one by one until only the options that were investigated remain.
I never figured out a good way to do this. The best I had was a band-aid that could be described as "five minute preview chapter". People would make votes, and twenty-four (-ish) hours later, I'd go through each vote one by one and describe the immediate outcome of that vote, then open a second voting round where people could change the parts of the plan which hadn't happened yet, which basically took the place of the endless if-conditionals. Sometimes the character would notice something the players hadn't, which would allow people to change the action outright (since it hadn't been done yet) or choose to go through with it anyways, but there'd still be an implied moment of hesitation that other characters may have noticed.
Of course, something like that is entirely on the GM. It doesn't necessarily need to take extra time or effort, though: myself, I just wrote the chapter like I normally would, then posted the relevant snippets, and any revisions were usually pretty minor.
The thing about the gamer power is that people conflate the gamer power with the magic system from the comic-world it originated on, things like elementals, mana use, and dungeon creation aren't part of the gamer power they're just skills and rituals that anyone in that world could learn to do, slower and less efficiently.
In worm the gamer powers and skills should fall under the local paradigm and allow for skills and training in line with earth-bet physics, with some subtle shard assists.

It's like you all want to have the most fucked up, obtuse voting system possible.
You could make it like this:
[] Shard Contact Plan "Oliver"
-[] Get Shard Addresses, Shard Status, Host Status, Status of Host Organization
-[] Ask for some information currency if they'd be so kind as to have some to spare.
-[] Offer to two-way share senses. Change Zion's address to our maintenance one.
[] Charge: No
[] Optimize: No
[] Dancemaster: Yes
[] Coat: Yes
And then Tally would work, and lo would all our prayers be heard. But no, we have to have voting plans for each Shard.
Next time someone else can do this. ccstat was willing to last time. Maybe they will be again.
But seriously you guys. At some point no one will help Vhal set this up beforehand and he'll spend longer tabulating the votes than writing the chapter.
Could you try to works you votes into a system that requires as little work as possible to tally instead of the maximum amount of work?
It's bad enough Dreams and Research and contacting our favorite Shards will be that complex without every vote having to be the maximum complexity.
My understanding was that Vhalidictes wanted the plans for each Shard to be listed separately. @Vhalidictes, should we use The_GrandMage's format?
If we do switch to the suggested format, I suggest that we include "Sense-sharing with" or some other identifier with the Shard names to make it easier to read the vote tally.
[] Sense-Share with Charge: No
[] Sense-Share with Optimize: No
[] Sense-Share with Dancemaster: Yes
[] Sense-Share with Coat: Yes
Edit: @Captain Hunt, voting on research projects is only for the PM update, and we're voting for the AM update. Also, you're voting to send 2 dreams to Taylor in one night.

Okay, so we've have a lot of speculation coming up since the rumors of a catgirl first surfaced in [Panacea parties hard]. So, here's a dedicated thread.
So, what we know:
1 - Is not a Cape, just a cosmetic biomod done by Panacea.
2 - Female, likely teenaged, went to the Wednesday the 3rd party Panacea was at.
So, we're looking for sightings, theories, etc. There have been plenty of doctored photos, but no real evidence this is anything but a rumor.
EDIT: Okay, jeez, guys, Mods have been around, so let's consolidate their warnings here: She's not a cape, so identity speculation is fine. She is likely a minor, though, and that means trying to keep information down, yeah? Maybe first names, last initial only? No one needs to know the personal details of a bunch of schoolkids.
EDIT2: Alright, you may have noticed a new tag floating around, (Unverified Catgirl). Yes, the mods are in on it. A lot of ladies around the Bay area who's been suggested to be the catgirl in question have gotten the new tag. A few have even had it removed due to photos of a current newspaper and their lack of fuzzy cat ears. Most, it seems, like the mystery. A friendly reminder that we don't doc-drop fellow board members. Let's not get banned, okay?
EDIT3: Okay, the kids from various High Schools not seen Thursday or Friday are [Here]. Although this won't help if we have ourselves a dropout, home-schooler, or older sibling outside the age range looked for. Nothing to do but wait for Monday, I guess.

Guys, guys, guys (and gals) you will NOT believe what I just saw. Like, literally, you're not going to believe me. So I'm at work, getting told to go clear off the windows outside the shop. Long story short, sick kid means I get to clear up vomit.
Short story long, I spot something in the reflection of the glass, and I turn my head and what do I see? Our elusive catgirl! Walking about, heading right towards the Boardwalk!
Now, I hear you, loyal denizens of the internet: "Pics or it didn't happen." Sadly, my work doesn't allow phones while on the job. I rushed to finish and asked for a fifteen minute break to get on here and spread the word so someone else can hopefully catch a pic.
If no one does, I'm a lying liar who lies. If they do, proof for days. So if you're in the area already, just have your phone to hand and keep an eye out. If not, sit back and wait for the verdict to come in.

I'm confused about why ABB members seem to be so willing to claim someone who might not be Asian.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the "community" is branching out and being more inclusive than the racists across town. And if this is where it has to start, that's fine.
I'm just wondering why. Just a cultural thing? If a brother actually trained in the art of Bushido and dressed like a Samurai would he get a pass? Where is the line drawn?

Nice story, Frantic. I'll tell some people I know should be in that area to keep an eye out, maybe we'll see if it's true or another false lead, soon.
Look, the Asian community has always been kind of at-odds with each other. There are a lot of cultures with long histories of conflict, and other issues. So of course the gangs that sprung up fought each other. When the ABB took over, that forced a lot of hands. A house divided and all that. So of course there's been a lot of internal issues that have precluded bringing in outsiders.
As for a gaijin Samurai. . .
If they actually knew what they were talking about, and followed proper customs and traditions? Maybe. But that can also be seen as mocking hertiage, you know.
Cultural appropriation is best left to the actual Empire 88.

So I am very surprised. And kind of sad that I also don't recognize her. Too much to hope that we'd share a circle of friends, I guess. I do kind of hope she goes to Arcadia, though. Would be interesting to see the way interest is divided between her and Amy when they decide to come back to school.
Have to check the school threads and see if any of the potential candidates was out again this week.

Fear not, for I have arrived.

After a deep look into the first one, I can say if it was doctored, it was done at some Tinkertech level because that's as real as I can tell.

Wait, what? Okay, first of all, it doesn't look anything like her. Second of all, we all know Panacea can't affect herself, so how did she change that? Then we've got the fairly obvious fact that the catgirl isn't hiding who she is. Sure, she's not stopping to pose for pictures (yet), but she's also not hiding her ears and tail, and considering how much Amy likes to hide behind her sister or in her own costume, I just don't see that happening. Plus, if it was Amy, and she changed her face, you'd be breaking the site rules by outing her.
Why don't you you lay off whatever is making you so uptight and show up to the good feelings the rest of us are enjoying? Even if it wasn't a joke, own it as one and accept the laughs.

Gonna stop here, because video is a lot harder to manufacture. Not impossible, but unless they're all in it together all signs point to confirmed catgirl. And now I'm away, to correct someone else's belief that a poorly edited photograph proves something.

Right, so, I'm out at Fugly Bob's getting a bite with the lads, and what should I spy but some girl getting all up in the space of anotehr waiting in line. So I got my phone out, because Veronica's in teh building and she's, well, Veronica.
So I decide to keep an eye on this girl because if she's going to cause trouble it'll be hilarious, and low and behold she just starts letting into this poor girl: [Video]
So Veronica and Vicky come over and start doing what heroines do, and getting her to lay off. Anyway, it turns out this bitch wasn't even bothering the right girl, she just started harassing some stranger. By buddy Trey got a better angle for watching Veronica tell this girl off, here: [Video2]
And it ends with her running off, perhaps realizing that being a hsitty person isn't a good idea.
Anywho, then the Catgirl arrived! She's pretty cute. [Video3]
And then a third girl arrived and three tiny teen girls eat the Challenger. And finish. In top twenty times. da fuck? [Pic] Of the updated wall.

I'm don't know how to feel about this.
On the one hand, they teamed up and made that girl cry.
On the other, she was bullying that other girl and that's not something we can allow. I don't know how things happen at whatever school she goes at, but I doubt it could be Arcadia, we don't allow that sort of thing here.
On the gripping hand, Veronica and Victoria are in for quite the talk when they get into school tomorrow. There are proper ways to do this sort of thing, and this wasn't ideal. Good on them for stepping up, but they didn't need to try and do things themselves.

All three looked pretty skinny. Seemed friendly enough. Might have been holding off on eating for a day or two to make the attempt together?

Seems about the right age. Doesnt look much like him but i never knew her mother so maybe she got it from her? Trusts set up so she can talk to the board about it even before she hits her majority.

The place is a mess. Gangs have a strong presence there, they actively recruit. Teachers do what they can, but you can only monitor the students so much.

So yeah, when the track star who has some jock friends and her pretty friend with a lawyer dad who both seem capable of doing whatever they want ask you to hang out, you do.
Anything to keep the gangs away. It's just some pranks, no one's getting hurt. Just mean words and some stains. And its kept the gang members from being around, so it's working.

Yes, you read that right. My pet platypus is missing.
She got out sometime today, and wandered away from our backyard, which we have set up for her. She's about sixteen inches long in total, and weighs just shy of two and a half pounds. We're really worried about her. She needs to eat 20% of her body weight each day, and that's about half a pound.
The platypus diet is mainly segmented worms, insect larva, and freshwater shrimp and crayfish. In the wild they usually spend a majority of their time hunting for food, so we're really worried for her out there if she can't find it for herself.
Her name is Penny, and she's female, so there's no need to worry about venom spurs.
[Pic]. If seen, please comment here or contact me directly.

Wait, what?
Why? How?
I have so many questions about this.
Why do you have a pet platypus?
Where does one even get a platypus?
What is the plural of platypus? Platypuses? Platypi?
► Platypodes (Original Poster)
Replied on November 4, 2010:
Most people use platypus as the plural and singular. Platypuses is accepted. Some people use platypi, but that's actually incorrect, if you were to properly pluralize it from the root language, it would come out as platypodes.
As for how I got Penny. . .
Okay, so, in the 1940s there were a few platypus given to zoos. Platypus don't breed well in captivity, though, so eventually things petered out. Australia didn't see a reason to ship out more, with the low birth rates in captivity and keeping them as something quirky to see there, so it was kept as a purely Australian thing to promote tourism.
Then the Endbringers happened. With their only environment being the west coast of Australia, it was decided to ship some out to various Species Survival Plan zoos in the US dedicated to protecting endangered species, and other places worldwide to try and protect them from extinction in case of Leviathan.
One such zoo was the Stone Zoo, in Stoneham. Which is part of Zoo New England with the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. Now, the Franklin Park Zoo didn't survive the Boston Blowback well, and eventually Zoo New England went under.
So, they held an auction to try and get the animals to good homes. Our fine state only has laws against dangerous animals, including cats (like tigers), canines (like wolves), bears, and great apes. Since Penny's female, and therefore lacks venom spurs, she's actually perfectly legal to own, though hard to get ahold of.

Thought you might want to know, since it was seen in that same area. So if anyone is out there, be careful, the males are known to have excruciating venom in their venom spurs.
So if you see a platypus, don't try and grab it. You can call us,or contact animal control, and we'll pick it up. Any platypus that gets called in we'll contact you about, Platypodes, in case it turns out to be Penny.

Okay, so I share these with Vhal while I work on them (ever since after the first PHO post when he said it was canon-compliant) in order to keep the PHO stuff canon and take on anything he'd like added. In fact, he saw the Rune-chan stuff in the weeks I was brain-cleaching it all out, long before he told me to just post it here. Anyway, some of you might question some of the decisions made here. It was originally going to be from the DJ_Chartreuse account, but was changed to Panacea and the PMs requests. The Winged_One post was not my idea, neither were a lot of other details, like the Platypus's name and gender.
Thanks @The_GrandMage for trying to bring some sanity to our ever-bloating vote system. I approve of the new format, and will try to think of more ways to simplify. In general, I think we should probably reduce the amount of detail in our plans. Vhal seems to keep up with the discussion here more than simply following the votes, so I don't think it's necessary to have sub-clauses and nested if statements on all of our plans. Unless there is a point of contention that deserves voting by the hivemind, let's focus on simple statements of intent for the voting blocks/lines and leave the details to discussion posts.
A question on data. Right now we've mostly been getting more by stealing asking nicely from new shards we meet. That's great for our startup costs, but eventually we'll become more reliant on the data generated from our hosts. Do we have any sense for how quickly that accumulates? For example, Lilac has spent a couple nights tinkering like crazy. Did anyone notice the impact that had on our tinker data?
And a question about hosts, and potential powers. We have some awesome local omniscience via our shard senses around each active host. Is there any way to grant those senses to our host, either by streaming them directly or by giving those senses as a power? It's a lot of information, and I don't want to burn out a host's brain, but giving someone (like Taylor) that degree of awareness would be powerful, and her brainmeats might be able to handle it even if a regular human couldn't. If it's a power, what sort of data would we need to spend for it? Thinker, probably? If it's a matter of sharing the senses directly that runs headlong into restrictions on shard-host communication, but since it's sensory we might be able to skirt the rules a bit to hide/mask the aberrance.
EDIT: Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we set the "Zion's address change" thing to auto-propagate whenever shards communicate. That should spread by itself, and eventually we will be screening all of his email and phone calls. If this is not the case yet, I think we should do this. Zion already gave us approval points for setting up the screening with one annoying shard, so there is no reason to be afraid of it looking weird to other shards, sentient or not. If questioned all we have to say is [APPROVED] with some overlay of Zion's [EFFICIENT] and we're golden. Not sure why this backdoor thing is being debated.
Definitely. Vhal stated fairly early on he spent more time counting votes than actually writing in the early votes, and it's only gotten more complex since people started trying to help him by tabulating everything. After my own pain last time, and then you having to do it at the last minute, I thought doing a running version would work better, but it's, if anything, getting to unsustainable levels.
Vhal may be fine with the votes being in the old format, but at this point we either need to self-regulate so the basic stuff like Contacting new Shards is easy and saving the difficult tabulating for Dreams or talking to Shards we already know. The more we can keep ourselves in the tools the forum gives us the easier things become and the easier it is for new people to get involved. I don't want people thinking they need to make huge, rambling vote plans to join in.
It's listed in the last of the top spoilers on the main chapters, and in the last PM chapter. +14 Sunday, +29 Monday. So she's gained us +43 Tinker data in the few days she's been Tinkering up a storm.
I don't believe so. I believe that's up updating their command codes. They could probably pass those on, but I don't think most Shards have the rights to do it.
I was a bit leery of changing their command codes too much, but, you know what? Screw it. We're leaning into Shard IT to solve the Cycle, lower Aberration, and gain Favor. Let's go whole hog. Change them all by default. Scion wasn't doing anything, we are, and we got a visit from the boss and a bonus for it. He obviously doesn't have an issue with us taking on more responsibility.
Hell, it plays into Corporate Takeover. I'm all for just making it our default, now.
-[] Breaker 300: Taylor is continually charged like a projectile from Flechette, that is, she's a "living sting". This can't be turned off, however it's still posible for her to touch people or things in general if she allows it.
She'd also be able, with practice, to only sever the physic laws she wants to, making her at this point a Siberian but better.
Finally, she'd even be able to break "dimensional barriers" making a breach to others dimension.
-[] Thinker 60: And intuition of what would happen if she severs only certains laws, for example the idea of severing protons from neutrons only would give her the impression it'd be extremily letal for other people, severing dimensional barriers would give her an extradimensional sense of where the dimension she's going is and where she was, also, how to reach any of them.
Power: Eidolon with one OP power
-[] Trump 300: Grants Taylor one power she choose (we don't give her any automatically, she has to choose it). This power is extremely powerfull, effectively occupying her three power slots.
She can switch the power at will, if done too often she'd get a headache.
Power: Located Simurg-Lite
[] Thinker 200: She gets absolute precognition and postcognition of all the timelines in 500 metters from where she stands. She's also able to execute any action shown to her in any timeline (this not only apply to any action done by her, but by any person in it, letting her replicate tinker powers by proximity). This trumps PtV if it were to be in the area, however if it's outside of it then this power is trumped instead.
Power: Scaling up Tinker
-[] Tinker 200: She can build anything, but she starts really low in tech and has to build more and more things to unlock the higher tech options.
Power: Tinker Gamer
More or less the same as Scaling up Tinker but adapted to Gamer format.
[] Tinker 200:
Taylor would get a General Tinker Skill, that lets her tinker anything but low leveled, once she tinkers anything with it she gains an Specific Tinker Skill focushed in what she's done (for example Byology if she has done Biotinkering).
The General Tinker Skill gains XP for any Tinkering done, but it takes a lot to level up.
The Specific Tinker Skills gains XP only if they had been used in the tinkering, but takes far less to level up.
-[] Thinker 20: for the Gamer interface.
-[] Trump 80: Autoimproving Tinker power
Wouldn't beign a Badass Normal get us Contessa'd? If Taylor effectively proved that a normal can beat up capes that would influence normal people to also try it, effectively getting us a visit from the woman in the suit.
Also, something important about giving any power, particularly stronger ones, is that they might consume a lot of energy, getting Zion attention again, only that this time it'd not be good (he's extremlity stingy), so we should test the energy consumption rate of any power we're going to give.
We should ask Charge about the dates, Negotiator said they didn't match up.
I've seen talk about getting a Platypus Avatar, but… Why not make a Platypus Endbringer while we're at it!
Dreams--
Taylor needs the power design dream so we can take her opinions and start narrowing down our huge list of proposals
New dream proposed for Veronica, about buying Amy a thank you present
Sense sharing--
also pay attention to Amy and to Sundancer, don't bother with Mouse Protector yet.
Shards--
Tell Negotiator about Zion's visit, Taylor getting new powers. Don't bother discussing Coil yet--we can let things play out for a while.
Set up standard protocol for contacting new shards, including updating command codes and Zion's address. Specifics open to discussion (Even if my version of the standard protocol doesn't pass, having one at all will be a huge help in reducing the voting complexity)
Contact the proposed new shards, including Sting, but not the other heavy hitters yet
Hosts--
Keep watching Lilac for evidence of thought influence/contamination

I've seen talk about getting a Platypus Avatar, but… Why not make a Platypus Endbringer while we're at it!
You make good points, but I'm not sure Zion particularly cares about our power consumption. Why would he even notice how much energy we use?
Also, let's make a platypus avatar that can transform into a platypus endbringer once we figure out how to make one. It's gonna be a blast! The Platypus Response Team must become a meme!
How about a tinker that can build anything, but has to unlock it with experience.
She had a literal tech tree in her mind, like in Civ games or Shepard Quest, with branches like Cybernetics/Steampunk/Computing.
In places the trees overlap in a complex web. She starts off with one tree, day Junk-tech, where she's building low tier equipment from scarp, Fallout style. To unlock nee trees, she needs experience points from fighting.
Say she wants to build a laser rifle. That overlaps with junk tech, but it'll be a piece of shit. To build a real laser rifle, she needs to unlock energy weapons or just weapons. The more generic a tree, the more experience it takes to unlock. Specific trees are less expensive but less versatile.
Got to thing of the right data requirements, but thoughts?
Regarding the proposed standard protocol for contacting new shards, this is what I put in my voting post:
ESTABLISH NEW STANDARD PROTOCOL
These steps are assumed unless otherwise specified:
For new contacts, engage memetic proxy filtering
Ask for shard and host status
Ask for shard addresses
If needed, share standard information packet.
Update command codes and Zion's address; instruct to share updates with other shards
Additional, optional steps (must be specified):
Set up sense sharing (two-way is default)
Ask for data (if non-sapient: default is half)
Ask about willingness to trade data (if sapient)
Current proposal from the data library team is "ask to trade up to 250 Master info per Shard (up to 1000 total) for an equivalent amount of Brute, Changer, Tinker, Trump, and/or Stranger info"
My main questions are whether we want sense sharing and/or data requests to be default.
Asking for data from non-sapient shards by default seems like a good idea to me. So far not all have complied but none have objected in a way that makes me think asking is weird or a bad idea. We're the core Administrator with a great approval rating--at this point they don't have any grounds to complain.
According to @Vhalidictes (correct me if I misinterpreted), most shards have a limit of 3 incoming streams, but we're QA with unlimited multitasking, so our upper limit is rather arbitrary and set by our data processing ability. I don't see any draw back to setting up as many one-way sense sharing arrangements as we can. Two-way could be a problem if our activities-especially our involvement with our hosts--start looking aberrant. We may want to be more cautious about setting up these reciprocal arrangements, but it seems logical to me that most shards would prefer a two-way deal rather than giving stuff away for free. (EDIT: Just noticed that [Administrative Censorship] is a research option that would let us make any outgoing data streams look non-suspicious. Takes 1000 research and 250 Master info. Probably doable before we start anything that looks aberrant, if we end up deciding two-way sharing is the best choice.)
Automatically updating the command codes and Zion's address seem like straightforward steps to me, giving us more control over the network. If anyone has objections, though, I'm willing to listen.
In addition, we've updated a few shards with a [TRUST ROOT] command that seems like a useful thing to do, but possibly with a higher likelihood of rejection. Any opinions on whether this should be a standard/common/rare event?
