[HALP] me! (WORM quest)

My understanding of Vista's power is "it depends". Specifically, it depends on her skill (at the moment) of how close to a living creature she can cleave her ability.

Now, the answer to the question "how well can she bend space, anyway" is never clearly answered in Worm. Might be a WOG out there but I generally don't trust those.
It is answered in Worm, her restriction is by people in the area. Without people, well..
Venom 29.1 said:
I stared at the world that stretched out before us, and it was wrong. Perspective was skewed. Lines bent where they should have been straight, and the expanse to our left was somehow more extensive than the space to our right.

The horizon should have been straight, or at least a gentle curve to accommodate the planet's natural curvature, but it was almost a wavy line.
"The fuck?" I muttered.

"Vista," Tattletale said, very matter-of-factly.
[...]
"Just how much area is she manipulating?" I asked.

"She was only ever held back by the Manton effect," Tattletale said. "Number of people in the area."

"And there's not many people left in Bet," I spoke my thoughts aloud, as I made the connection.

[X] Keep the last turn and finish up the chapter-in-progress
I'm fairly certain most people here would rather not acknowledge Ward as a thing that exists. So feel free to retcon it out. Besides I don't really have much of an interest in reading Ward anyways since to be honest I think Worm works better as a one and done story.

Ward: Its the 'rocks fall, everyone dies' meme, except the DM spends several hours explaining, in gruesome detail, exactly how each and every one of the characters dies due to the cave in.

I'm probably in the wrong time-zone to participate in discussions real-time, but I now remember reading this quest and have had parts of it stick with me even when I forgot the quest itself existed. So, fairly excited to get at least another chapter, probably more.

Regarding Ward, it's a cherry tree as far as I'm concerned. Cherrypick at your leisure.

Also, fun fact about platypuses: they have been found to be flourescent under uv-light.

Thanks for the reminder! This is why I try to keep my Votes open for 48 hours. I'll continue that in the future, no matter how fast/slow the chapters come out.

I'm rereading the quest right now. Heck, even my omake receives some new likes.

I need to check my old ideas for this thread, but I'm still into making Taylor 'perfect human' pretty much, with possibly being a 'mundane tinker' with replicable technology as a potential option, like let's say 100 years into the future.

There may be one story where Taylor doesn't need to fix everything around, and simply be happy.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards giving Taylor a relatively modest power with a lot of potential for creativity and letting her do what she wants.

She can go do her thing street-scale, while QA personally gears up for the War In Heaven.

Wanna hook Taylor up with Amy and Lilac, maybe give her something that meshes well with their powers so it all combines together into something really cool.

Something creative that also increases her survivability. In the end, the main requirement must be that she survives till the end. It doesn't need to happen in theory, but I don't think we want her to die.

Something biotinkery / tinkery in this case would be needed.

Also as a reminder, power list one and power list 2. Ah, so many old memories and so many of those ideas are mine. Good old times.

So, it looks like we have a landslide!

Thanks for checking in, everyone.

I'll be re-checking the old votes (by hand), and cleaning up the most current chapter-draft for posting.

Given my current work schedule, I hope to have this out by the end of the week (12/31/22).

Quick question: Does anyone have any thoughts/concerns on having official update days of the week? I normally go with "when it's done", but I'm amenable to scheduling posts if readers think that's a good idea.

I think standard Saturday-Sunday works, as it's most of the time the free time for many people.

EDIT:

'Desperate Need To Make Friends'
-[] Master 120. I'm taking into account that Sasori was originally an S-Rank Missing-Nin with absurdly precise control over his puppets. If we take Taylor's absurd multitasking as Master Rating 8, I think making this as Master 6 would fit the '100 puppets' limit of Sasori.
-[] Tinker 160. Pretty much aiming for something close to an S-Rank rating, and it would count as Tinker 8. This Tinker rating would include all kinds of unique designs, as long as they connect to the concept of 'puppetry'.
-[] Trump 200. Pretty much an ability to apply all kinds of powers to the created puppets, including direct human puppetry while using dead capes.

'Sasori Puppetry'

Hmmm. "So, I can make Tinkertech puppets. But they need to have a living creature as a basis. But they can be dead. But I think using dead Capes will let me access their powers."

"That's morbid."

"Yes, but think about having Hero back. Or a squad of Butchers."

". . . Okay, we'll test this."

Well, this still allows the creation of more 'standard' puppets as well perfectly fine, just like Sasori. Kind of like Parian's power her pretty friendly way to manipulate lightweight materials, but also the far more morbid ability to also use the skin of dead humans if necessary. So yeah, this would be like that. Very Worm-like, isn't it?

I kind of like the idea of forcing her to use bodies. I mean, Catgirl!Amy could whisk her up some, so, you know.

Only thing I don't like is the Name. Instead of 'Sasori Puppetry' can we can it 'Making Friends'?
I feel that fits Taylor more.

Also it kind of poke at her. Maybe she'll actually get out of her shell and talk to someone, like, say, her father?
Crazy thought.

'Desperate Need To Make Friends' as an alternative.

Because at this point it may be an urgent, desperate need ;). Although power took this a bit too literally in this case. Also well, it's not completely unusable even with morals, as this also applies to most likely dead plants and dead animals, which may be less morally wrong to use.

Also, I'm tempted to give Emma something truly special.

'Something Smells Fishy, and Yes, it's Me'
-[] Shaker 120. Rating 6 for the potential range. Pretty much someone with this powerset creates a visible misty green cloud made out of atrocious smell. The way it works is that to somewhat control it, they must keep the concentration going, otherwise, they can't suppress it, no matter what. How exactly it smells, depends on random chance. It may be completely rotten eggs or fish, or something like a Rafflesia Flower. Or something else.
-[] Master 40. This smell Master rating is there that creates the compulsion to either run or attack that is stronger than it should be, even taking into account how bad the smell can be.
-[] Blaster 80. Pretty reasonable Blaster rating, I'm not a complete monster. User may manipulate the cloudy mist, and turn it into projectiles they may shoot at someone.

Pretty good power to keep your social life going.

Powers that aim more for potential cooperation with Amy?

'Biological Megazord'
-[] Tinker 300. Pretty much the idea here is that the user starts with the model of the 'perfect kaiju meatsuit'. At first, it's pretty small (at around the size of a van), but with each new type of 'biological matter,' it may be upgraded to become something stronger. The final product would be strong enough to duke out with Endbringers. In this case, the user can only biotinker with that ONE model. But that limitation is made up with the greater potential of that one project. Yes, potential passengers may end up involved.
-[] Thinker 140. Pretty much an ability to give an instinctual, very advanced understanding of biology.

I'm not sure what other ratings may be added here if any are necessary.

'Living Beings: Transport Edition'
-[] Tinker 240. May as well give it a pretty good rating. Pretty much what this power is is that as long as it counts as a 'mount', the user may biotinker this creature. Yes, this is pretty much a biotinker version of a Squealer 'vehicle' specialty. And with Rating 12, the user may as well biotinker a friggin dragon. Who doesn't want a badass dragon as a mount? I sure would love one, lol. Also with a rating this high I suspect non-biological materials may be used to create such mounts, and afterward they would count as 'biological' for Catgirl!Amy.
-[] Master 120. Any biotinkered creature that the user may ride may automatically control in a Master-like fashion with a thought. Also at the rating 6, quality control depends on the size of the 'creature mount'. If it's colossal, at most 1-2 at once. If it's closer to the size of a big dog, it may be up to 20.
-[] Thinker 140. Instinctual biological knowledge is included in the package.

'Organic/Non-Organic Transmutation'
-[] Striker 240. A very similar rating to Amy's own Striker powerset. Pretty much a user may freely change and shapeshift anything from organic to non-organic, and another way around. So for example a katana blade, once 'transmuted' may become completely biological. Any mass can't be 'magically' created out of nothing, but the amount of control over the atomic/DNA structure is absolutely incredible.
-[] Thinker 200. As long as the user touches the object, he/she perfectly understand its composition.

'Virus/Bacteria Manipulator'

-[] Shaker 180. Any sort of bacteria/and or virus may be freely manipulated in the area of the effect. And may be 'transported' in any way the user may want to.
-[] Tinker 180 (optional). If we want to make this a Tinker instead of a Shaker, this may be added.
-[] Trump 240. Pretty much any virus/bacteria is under the complete control of the user and may be freely modified, even in a supernatural way. So yes, creating a 'Captain America in a virus' may be more than doable with this. If the user doesn't give permission, it's not possible for the outside source to affect this.

I would say 'Living Beings' is my favorite idea of those.

I may also need to think more of 'joke' powers like that smell thing, for potential... characters we dislike or want to make fun of.

Pretty good power to keep your social life going.
I get that this is a 'what if' scenario, considering Emma can't trigger, but it gave me an idea. Problem is 'being smelly' wouldn't 'ironically' fit her, even if you do have a point about her personality stinking.

Her current complex makes her push others down to feel strong, yeah? So give her that.

Bastard love-child of Victor, King and Lung
[] Striker or Blaster ?. A striker or blaster power that lets her connect to up to ten people, one for each finger (with a handy cosmetic indicator for anyone to see, long red nails on active fingers perhaps? something hard to conceal if they keep ripping through gloves).

[] Brute ? + Trump ?. For each person she has connected, she cuts their strength, reaction speed and durability in half and increase them by 50% for herself. For parahuman targets, relevant aspects of their power are cut in half, and Emma recieves physical boosts as if she had drained an unpowered person. She loses these boosts if her targets get out of range.

Now, this sounds pretty awesome at first glance, but consider her using this ability at street level.
Capes loath Trumps messing with their powers, so even if they are allies they would be leery of having her around in case she decides she needs a boost from them. Foes will target her preferentially, necessitating her boosting herself quickly and often.
Civilians and unpowered gang-members are easy boosts, but boosting herself by ten stages would mean ten regular people who will easily get bad bruises, bleeding or broken bones while too slow to react to threats and too weak to GTFO.

This will basically give her a reputation as someone who leaves a lot of collateral damage and maimed civilians in her wake. And her current personality would prevent her from admitting that's a problem.
Of course, this is midnight-thinking so I might groan about it in the morning. There is probably some organisation out there on Bet that would love her with this power.

I want to point out that 90 percent of what made skitter so dangerous from a power perspective was her local omniscience and multi-tasking.

A note on Emma, the locker incident hasn't happened in this timeline. Which means she is yet to throw herself beyond the moral event horizon.

I'm thinking if Taylor talks to Danny and mentions the right things (we have already sent her a few relevant dreams), and Danny talks to Alan while Emma's mother is present (so Alan can't brush it under the rug) there might be a chance of them both getting treatment for their PTSD and resulting psychoses before it's too late.

It could at least possibly remove a thorn in Taylor's side in the long run.

What works best for you? That's the answer. It doesn't matter what works for us, it's what works for you that matters.

So I re-read the story again and my last few posts in the thread and I have to say, I'm glad I thought to put little blurbs in my votes for who to contact about what we were hoping to gain from the contacts.

Still not too happy about ADCing Night without examining her situation before the ADC (definite chance that Fog's shard will see it and scream Aberrant at Scion), but I suppose it can't be helped.
