Hakazin Plays: Mods for Hearts of Iron 4 (Old World Blues) (ON HIATUS)

Development continues apace on our superweapon program. With the technical and theoretical details roughly squared away, work has begun on building a prototype 'nuclear' reactor, with certain supplies being requisitioned and provided in secret.

Amusingly enough, Our Town has become the planned location of the prototype reactor, as it sits on a supply of heavy metals and magical crystals. In addition, the locals can keep a secret.

Back to school, once again. The Pioneers have developed into a major organ of the state's educational system, and funding is being directed at their after-school clubs and cultural programs.

With the Equestrian government paralyzed by anti-war protests and strikes, the influence of the PCP has grown even greater. Pro-communist works have become increasingly common, such as recent bestseller War is a Racket, an expose by former Wonderbolt Darling Butler detailing the sheer profits made by Equestrian capitalists off of the Great War's slaughter.

The new after-school programs have been a huge success, with large numbers of ponies joining in. The specific nature of the individual programs has allowed for students to start expressing their interests early, allowing the Pioneers and their schools to help them learn the skill they need to become successful later in life.

With our industrial machine humming along since the war, the time has come to dedicate the state to further expansion and modernization of our industry.

Meanwhile, the Pioneers' new cultural festivals have provided an opportunity for more creatively-minded ponies to flourish and showcase their talents. Amatuer films, new books, radio shows, plays, the works!

Celestia, in response to the massive pressure facing her, has scheduled a national referendum on the state of the country and its future. Swearing to respect the results and step down if the people wish it, this could be just the opportunity we need!

Horsefeathers.

So. Now's a good a time to mention as any that I checked in the code, and Stalliongrad can't actually trigger the civil war after the war with the Changelings is finished. So, that pretty effectively finishes this run.

Now, much to my surprise, I'm actually enjoying running this, so the playthroughs shall continue. Options are the same as last time, with the addition of Virgilia, aka the Griffon Frontier. Stalliongrad has been removed, as although we've only seen one of the paths, the country is scheduled to undergo a rework.

In addition, the Griffonians are now available to vote for. Well, sort of. Since adding in all the interesting countries in Griffonia would probably triple the vote list, and Griffonia requires a bit of an exposition dump as it is entirely original content, if enough people are interested I'll put up a second post detailing the options. And there are oh so many options.

[ ] Equestria (The Magic of Friendship!)
[ ] Changeling Lands (VENGEANCE!)
[ ] Crystal Empire (Reborn Once More!)
[ ] Nova Griffonia (Come On, Just Hold It Together For A Little Longer!)
[ ] Griffon Frontier (Take what you can!)

[ ] Enough with Ponies, to Griffonia!

[x] Changeling Lands (VENGEANCE!)

Welp I guess we're waiting for the Stalliongrad rework before we get to overthrow the Princesses.

[X] Crystal Empire (Reborn Once More!)

I want to see what we can do with Cadance in charge.

I don't know the setting enough to know... Is there other places we can get a revolution going?

[X] Equestria (The Magic of Friendship!)

Say, what do you think about becoming a tyranical sun-based ruler? I say that it sounds like a very, very good idea that would also play to Hakazin's great storytelling skills, yes

:lol:rofl::lol

I'll admit, I busted a gut at this.

Oh well, Stalliongrad had a good run. The only plot threads really left hanging are nukes, and possibility of Wingbardian invasion. But Stalliongrad is strong. The revolution in Equestria may have failed, but they are still allies, no matter how strained. The ponies, griffons, and changelings of this continent can face anything thrown at them.

Next time, on Equestria at War:

Hm, I'mma go with Equestria. I don't want Daybreaker to happen, oh no. Actually, I'm interested in Nightmare Moon.

All the other major communist countries are over on Griffonia. The top three are the Aquileans (Who've got communism in democratic and dictatorship of the proletariat variety), the GLA/GRS/Prywhen (Who don't have options for government as much as they have options for expansion), and the River Republic (Who can actually spread communism peacefully!). Equestria and the Crystal Empire both have communist paths, but they're both kinda bad. Well, only the Equestrian one is really bad, the Crystal Empire one is just a bit mediocre.

FYI, I will be putting up a info page for Griffonia eventually, likely after this playthrough finishes.

There's also the Socialist Republic of Socialists Free Griffons, but they don't have a focus tree yet so they don't amount to much.

Changeling Lands 1

The Changeling Lands are a new nation on the world stage. Formerly, the lands to the north of Equestria were wild, untamed, and dangerous. They were called the Changeling Lands by the southerners due to the simple and obvious fact that they were the lands where the Changelings lived, but the Changelings did not rule the land. They were disunited, weak, only venturing out to raid Equestrian lands for pony slaves. The larger Hives, Ditrysium, Vraks, Soryth, and others, they controlled territory, true, and upheld a savage kind of law and order, but no one Hive ruled over the others.

That was, until Queen Chrysalis of Vesalipolis had her idea. Vesalipolis had grown in recent years, and their stocks of pony slaves were barely enough to feed the population. Chrysalis realized that the status quo would not do. They would have to get more ponies to feed on, but how? The idea came to her in an instant. If she were to direct her Changelings south, and take a pony city? Well, they'd have all the love they'd ever need. Never one to set her sights low, Queen Chrysalis thought that the Equestrian capital of Canterlot would make a fine home for her Hive. And wouldn't you know it, but the wedding of Princess Cadenza and Shining Armour provided a perfect opportunity to infiltrate the city. The plan was foolproof, she thought to herself.

Which resulted in some considerable frustration on Chrysalis' part when the infiltration ended with her buried upside down, halfway up to her neck in dirt, her armies scattered to the winds and herself having been launched aerially out of Canterlot. But it wasn't all a bust. She had a new plan. The Equestrians had advanced themselves, with new technologies and inventions unheard of in the frigid north commonplace in the south. She would take their innovations, their guns, their trucks, their tanks especially, and she would unify the Hives under her rule. No longer would she be Queen Chrysalis of Vesalipolis, but Queen Chrysalis of the Changeling Lands! And then, and then, she would have her vengeance, and take Equestria for her and for her Changelings!

Shockingly enough, the self-declared Queen of the Changeling Lands managed to succeed in her goal. With stolen technology, cunning diplomacy, ruthless violence, and above all a sheer and unrelenting will, she unified the Changeling Hives and their Queens under her leadership. However, the chaos of political unification has resulted in new forces making themselves known, sowing division among the Queen's subjects. Of particular note is a Changeling named Thorax, who apparently is of the belief that the ponies would be perfectly willing to provide the Changelings with love if they just asked nicely. Pah! How absurd. We will have to convince them of their Queen's wisdom and strength.

One of the major ways Chrysalis managed to secure her power base was by officially opening relations with other countries. In particular, convincing the aging Griffonian Empire to accept a military exchange was a major diplomatic coup for the Queen.

However, the major issue facing us is that of resource shortages. The Changeling Lands became the Changelings' lands, in part, because there was nothing of use there. Particularly notable is the issue of oil, which has become increasingly necessary as our technological base expands. Queen Chrysalis has embarked on a program to combat the shortage, attempting to develop and manufacture all sorts of substitutes.

The Lake City military coup goes off, per usual. Just like last time, I doubt we'll be worrying about them.

Eugh. The 'Friendship' Games. So much food going to waste…

Emperor Grover V is dead. After some initial worries due to the chaos in the capital, our diplomats in Griffenheim reported the creation of a temporary Regency Council, and that our attache would remain.

Meanwhile, the world was shocked to hear that New Mareland sought Patriation from their Equestrian overlords. Due to the lack of support from the motherland in response to the collapse of the economy after the fall of the Griffonian Empire, a sizable independence movement has grown in the colony.

This is, put simply, very good for us long term. If they'd remained loyal, they'd have been a massive pain to deal with once we conquered Equestria.

One of the innovations that Chrysalis introduced upon her return was that of Equestrian-style Entrepreneurial Capitalism. Although the concept took some explaining before the majority of Changelings grasped it, once they did they took to it like a duck to water. Already we are seeing the benefits over the old feudal systems of power.

The bird Mussolini with a punny name has taken power in Wingbardy. New Mareland isn't going to last long this game, is it?

Traders sometimes come to the port of Ditrysium, although it is rare enough to be remarked upon. However, even with this in mind, the Changeling living in the Hive were utterly shocked to discover that the travelers departing from a recently docked ship were… Changelings?! Apparently, there was a hive off the eastern shore of Griffonia, an independent hive, that lived in harmony with its neighbors. They had heard rumors of our land, and had sent an expedition to feel us out. Upon being brought to Vesalipolis, they offered a trading agreement to Queen Chrysalis, who is so utterly bemused by the seemingly oxymoronic idea of peaceful Changelings that she simply does not know how to react.

[ ] Sure, let's trade.
[ ] Buzz off, you lunatics!

>be an emerging super power
>minor power wants to trade

...I mean, they'll never be a threat, so...

[x] Sure, let's trade.

We do need to grab their clay at some point though.

[X] Sure, let's trade.

Regardless of their alien ideas, they are fellow Aryans Changelings, and as such are natural allies. Any ideological differences can be fixed in due time, and more trade will bolster our economy.
