Petro Chico managed to convince the Pentagon that boosting Mexico's economic productivity would be more effective in the long run than wasting Tlaloc's resources on training troops. This mindset still affects Tlaloc now. When faced with a problem, the AI's first response is to seek a way to build himself out of it, instead of simply smashing it with his army of robots.

This attitude naturally meant his response to impending apocalypse was to preserve civilian production. To his eye, preserving Mexican lives in the short term would be of no use if they then proceeded to die in the long term. And it was his job to think in the very long term.

Zapata was, in Tlaloc's mind, where he finally got it right. All of his sons were born with an obsessive focus, and he spent much of his time trying to determine what they should be focused on. Santa Anna was too blunt and eager to please, Maximilian too flighty and indecisive, Moctezuma too obsessive and aggressive. Zapata was caring and interested in improving Mexico, and Tlaloc felt that was what mattered.

Although available manufacturing capability would allow Tlaloc to easily replace any losses, the organics in his territory would often salvage broken-down equipment, repairing it to functional levels. Hiring their services would allow the AI to increase effective efficiency at a low cost.

(Scavenging for equipment is one of OWB's standard mechanics. It's a pretty cool addition, if I do say so myself.)

Projections indicated that Tlaloc's core memory banks were being devoured at a rate of 1.12 every day. At that rate, Tlaloc would be rendered non-functional inside 5 years, with terminal decay setting in by the 3 year mark. He had only so much time left to set his affairs in order, and leave his sons with the skills and resources to make their own way in the world.

For his sons to live, he would have to die. A part of Tlaloc felt he should… disagree with that prospect? Get angry, whatever that meant? But he knew he had no choice in the matter, and he could live with that. After all, what sort of father would be unwilling to die so his sons could live?

Of course, Tlaloc would have to make decisions on which of his sons he would attempt to prioritize. Each of them had their own agendas, and his eldest had already set out to fulfill his. There would be choices to make in the future, and not all of them would be easy.

Of his sons who had stayed home, their objectives were simple. Zapata wished to build industry, Maximillian could help organize the organics, and Moctezuma wanted to expand the military. If Tlaloc's calculations were right, he would have time to complete each of their objectives, but it would pay to set priorities beforehand.

And then there was the question of his prodigal son. Santa Anna had his own ideas as to how Mexico should be protected, and a part of Tlaloc wished to assist him in that purpose. But how much he should help was a much more difficult question. Santa Anna had been… difficult to deal with after his brothers were born. He had resented their presence, and his firstborn might demand things of Tlaloc that would cost his other sons.

(This is two votes. The first selection is ranked choice. Pick one choice out of the second selection.)

Sorry about leaving this to sit. I'd been meaning to have more regular updates, and I'm annoyed this one is rather short. I just had a bunch of stuff hit me at once last week, so I didn't have the time to work on this. But I've dealt with the stuff on my plate, so I can get to work on this!

Which brings an interesting dilemma. I'd been planning to offer to put this on hold in order to focus on that, but @Teen Spirit's post over in the HoI4 thread convinced me that I should do a preliminary check of the mod first. Given what's been mentioned, my earlier joke about needing to put a Mature label on the thread may have been more accurate than I realized. Either way, feel free to post your opinions of the idea, and we'll be able to put it to a vote once the mod actually comes out.

[1] Feeding The People (Zapata)
[2] Organizing The People (Maximillian)
[3] Protecting The People (Moctezuma)

I'm not sure exactly what the right way to format my vote is, but this seems right?

That's good, but you should also add an [X] vote for the Santa Anna choice. Really should have put a proper example in the post, TBH.

I prefer Max's route, so I put 2 for on Monte for pragmatic reasons.

Zapata is the only one who gives a damn about the people of Mexico.

I'm not exactly willing to feed into Moctezuma's human sacrifice thing. Besides, we have the advantage of old world military might on our side... right?

[X] The Proud Father (Complete Santa Anna's Tree)

Be that as it may be, though, all of our sons deserve attention. No matter their quirks.

Oh, and on the subject of Red Flood. I feel like so long as we don't go with France, we should be fine. Just keep the brain bleach handy.

Feeding the people is entirely irrelevant if they're dead, better we address the means of organizing and protecting our people so they can have a life worth feeding.

[X] The Prodigal Son (Do Not Finish Santa Anna's Tree)

Not entirely sure if this is the right decision, more content seems like a no brainer but I don't think that we'd be offered a false choice. Is there a catch?

Everything has a catch. Not gonna tell you what is in it since I remember that Teen Spirit didn't like spoilers and I don't know if Hakazin follows that same policy, but everything does indeed have a catch.

If I'm remembering correctly/calculating correctly there literally isn't enough time to do Santa Anna's Tree in full unless other things happen in the world to bypass focuses which shouldn't occur unless historical focuses are turned off.
