Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

What are the limits for complexity or size for our Kingdom? Just as a reference.
It's very costumizable, in many aspects.
I recommend looking into the book on page 242.
But here are the options for size:
Size Select the option that best describes the Hell's size.

• Tiny (Cost: None; gain 2 points): Welcome to Hell House. The Hell is no larger than a rambling manor house.

• Small (Cost: None; gain 1 point): The farmstead from Hell. The Realm covers a mere handful of acres.

• Average (Cost: None): Welcome to the Demon City. The Realm is about the size of a major city.

• Large (Cost: 1 point): Your own private Idaho. The Realm is about the size of a mid-sized American state or European nation.

• Huge (Cost: 2 points): Your own demon empire. The Realm is about the size of Australia.

• Vast (Cost: 3 points): Welcome to Hell World. The Realm is its own small world, complete with biosphere, diverse regions, seasons, and so on

Honestly, Demon Australia or State size seems good enough because there is still lots of stuff to choose from.

Its big enough to have some layers for different parts. Central paradise, and then further...ring? Districts? For stuff like unrepentant sinners or more neutral beings that we for some reason had to send to Hell, like having to use Murder is Meat, but not really wanting to condemn someone to true hell.

Having some ...damnation mobility also is a good incentive to reform and repent, if its not just 0 to 100. And good living place for our own demons.

"I regret that I didn't find a better way of doing it, but I don't regret doing something other than just stand by and watch my friend drive her life in the gutter when everything else failed."

Is my opinion, more or less, and that seemed largely covered?

And you know what's even more damning? She couldn't even take it out on him because he would just use Sun and Moon Method (or colloquially known by Solars as the Lunar-Taming Leash) and mind-raped her to force her to love him again and other Lunars can't directly intervene because the Solars are the unquestioned rulers of Creation, free to do whatever they want (like turning the Dragon-Blooded Gentes Family that has served them loyally into their own consorts and slaves) and NO-ONE would've batted an eye.
be me, an Infernal Exalted
>be not me, my bestfriend's asshole boyfriend
>gives her drug when she's pregnant
>itsblackmagictime.mp3
>gives him magical dementia
>"Do you feel sorry?"
>I could lie with Manipulation 3 and Subterfuge 3 boosted with Excellency
>"lol" I instead said, "lmao"
You know I wasnt actually going to say anything until you reminded me of how depraved and insane the Exalted became as god tyrant kings.

And now everyone's excited about building a neverending torture dimension that spits out... vampires? Lovely.

For the crime of...

Doing something we don't like.

Very Catholic of us. I am sure the White God will be flattered. :V

Exactly! If they are lucky, they might just suffer for only 10,000 years on our hellscape.

Such is the extent of our magnanimity that we will only torture them to the most heinous and wracking torment for 10 millenia. Aren't we a benevolent sovereign?

Arc 0 Post 12: Counsel of the Wise
Counsel of the Wise

5th of July 2006 A.D.

"Oh... he didn't deserve that," Left unsaid is that you think he deserved something, though maybe not unheard, Harry is a wizard and a detective and really good at both. He sort of looks off to the side a little then back at you sharply.

"No one deserves to have their mind torn up with magic," the words are not angry, but they feel rock solid, almost like mom or dad talking about being generous to the needy or leaving vengeance to God. Do wizards have faith in magic as a world-spanning power balance and harmony and all that? Some of the New Age folks you had talked to going to occult shops talked about it like that.

"No one does," you agree quickly.

Though you had been hoping that Usum would have some insight on the notion of wizards worshiping magic he says something you did not expect. "Be on your guard Gracious Judge of the Lowly, you are not the only one with the aid of spirits... see how his eyes moved just then, like he was looking at something, or someone we cannot see. Until we know more about the disposition of this guide it would be wise to assume the worst."

"That's stupid, he's Harry he helps people, he hangs out with my dad."

The spirit part does make sense though, just looking at how useful Usum has been so far well why wouldn't every wizard find a friendly spirit to help out? There were apparently entire world spanning subspecies of beings that bond with spirits. Don't look at Thomas, don't look at Thomas. He will think you are checking him out. Part of you kind of does want to check him out, but not with mom here.

If you could find a spirit that wasn't hungry or that you could just feed your magic, which yours were apparently doing well that sounded fine.

"That would be how a familiar is bound to their master, our connection is closer," Usum reels your scattering thoughts back into order even as the officer and the pari said their goodbyes. You have the uneasy feeling that the hard-eyed lieutenant is also a good detective, or at least a persistent one.

"Without you I would be as dust on the wind," your head companion adds, so matter of fact about it you do not know what to say.

"You do not need to say anything my princess, there will be time enough to ponder the meanings of life and death, in this hour bend your eyes and your wits towards the outer world for I fear we are not yet done with the perils of the day."

***

By the time the three of you you make it to the corner of Bloomingdale and Wood the pain in your calf had entirely gone away, not that there was much of it to begin with. Queen Mab needs better spiders it seems. You feel a smile twitch at the corner of your mouth until you spot your mother looking at you accusingly.

What am I supposed to do, never smile again just because she hates magic? You wonder annoyed. Prudently you do not explain that you had been fondly remembering hacking up unseelie fey with a sword.

Healed 1 Lethal Wound

Annoyance tips you right over the threshold before you have any time to doubt if you would be welcome and...nothing happens. Saint Marry's is as you had always known it, familiar in its red brick and white marble, the statues of saints and angels making even the stillness of night seem less lonely. You've known people who call Renaissance and Baroque architecture cluttered and to those people you generally say: 'Wow you must like plain mayo on bread too.'

Sometimes you wonder how mom would take it if you told her you came by your taste in Goth style honestly by way of a school project you did back in Middle School on Gothic architecture and then a lot of wiki diving. It was just plain cool how one style could reach back from now to nineteenth century ghost stories to medieval churches to like barbarians with axes if you really wanted to push it.

"We need to talk," Harry says recalling you from your contemplation.

Now if you weren't in a church with your mother glaring daggers at him you might have been tempted to try to say something a little flirty, but this is a church and you still have important stuff to talk about so you nod.

So while your mother talks to Father Forthil the two of you climb the steps to the top pew. Once you are up there you take a seat and turn to him, waiting for him to talk first but Harry just looks at you.. longer than he ever had before and you feel something starting to happen, a pull that does not move the air.

You turn your head with a snap and ask accusingly. "What was that?"

"There's a reason I don't look into people's eyes that often," he explains with the tone of something he had done many times before. "They say the eyes are the windows of the soul and for wizards that is more fact that poetry. The first time I looks into someone's eyes I get to see their soul and they get to see mine.

That... Ok that was some heavy stuff. You are not sure how you should take someone willing to show you their soul, even if it is a mutual thing and he is doing it to make sure you are not possessed.

"The soul isn't the mind, I won't see your thoughts or your memories, but just an idea of who you are. Some people see images, some hear songs, I even heard of one wizard who gets it as smells. For me it is symbols flowing into one another, like a painting that shifts and changes. I don't know what it will be like for you but... I think it will be a lot easier to talk once this is done."

You were about to make a quip about checking you for demons and then just letting him do it because you are really curious about what you'll see when Usum interjects: "Skilled though this sorcerer may be in the ways of mortal magic I do not think it would be safe for him to behold the a power older than the Pillars of the Elements, older than the ordering of the Heavens and the Hells. Such is your soul now reforged."

"So what am I supposed to say, the spirit in my head says looking might drive you mad? That's not suspicious at all."
It's not fair of you to snap at him, but you are tired and you are starting to get hungry and you just want this day to be over. "I'm sorry."

You can p practically feel him fighting another flood of compliments, but probably due to being literally in your head he just says: "Think nothing of it." Adding: "Perhaps you should mention Harry Dresden's own spirit as an example of harmonious cooperation, there is a risk since he obviously wishes to keep it private, but you are alone here and he has just proposed a far more thorough exchange of secrets."

What do you say?

[] Accept the Soulgaze

[] Refuse the Soulgaze, it would be too dangerous to him (Charisma+Empathy or Charisma+Occult)
-[] Write in stunt (Optional)

[] Write in

OOC: The Occult version is you pulling magical secrets out of your demon friend until Harry hopefully concludes you know what you are about

It's also worth noting that Molly was talented at mind magic because of her sensitivity and relatively fine control, not because she had some special intuition into how mortal minds work.

I don't think she actually knew that even very light alterations could permanently damage the mind the way her work did.

Which should be reflected in her base opinion and considerably lower Harry's blood pressure.

For the base points that come with the hell realm charm she can make a planet sized heaven. With one or two drawbacks Molly could make it one that grants immortality to the residents and gives her the ability to mentally control the environment across her new world.

We can chose not to be an asshole about it, which I'm in favor of. Even if the player base wants to become a hyper tyrant giving a good benefits package is a way better plan than making an authentic hell dimension.

[X] "I'm not going to say no, because you are the professional here, but this is apparently some serious business here, like 'Looking directly into the sun to count its spots' level business if what I've guessed is right, are you even going to be okay doing that? Is there anything that can be done to mitigate the risk at all?"
--[X] "Actually, that's a good question, let me see if I can shake some answers loose here". Invoke Crown of Eyes to determine if there's anything that can be done to limit the risk of Soulgazing you

Literally spelled out in some 2e Charm fluff.

Malfeas's magnanimity is such that his spirit killer Charm ONLY leaves a nuclear shadow of your soul to suffer for 10,000 years, as opposed to good old Ebon Dragon whose Charms chuck you forever into a perfect, dark oubliette outside the universe to suffer alone for eternity if you get killed by it.

What a swell guy.

Edit:
Invoke Crown of Eyes to determine if there's anything that can be done to limit the risk of Soulgazing you
Is this targeting the situation of soulgazing us?

I mean, "I guess", this is the kind of thing Crown of Eyes was designed to answer. "Hey, how can I make it so that looking into my soul doesn't blast someone's brain out". It's a specific, cohesive thing with a concrete answer.

[X] Alectai

Would it be too paranoid to warn him we're about to invoke something? Even without their Sight open wizards are pretty sensitive to magical phenomena. Feeling CoE go into full intellectus mode might make him suspicious.

I've made that comment a bit more cohesive and turned it into a thing that's actually said, because that's a fair point.

Just asking because I don't think we can use it on ourselves? Or was that on the Exaltation itself?

It's a specific Problem that's currently apparent with an achievable Solution, that should be within the scope of it.

Sounds good. Knowing Harry he'll propably risk it anyway.

At least he's informed of the risk and can brace himself accordingly even if there's no real solution.

Phrased closer to 'how can I make the soulgaze as safe for him as possible' but yeah that would work. It should be noted though the Exaltation cannot see itself as it does not have eyes on the inside metaphorically speaking so the only advice it could give would be general 'how to make soul gazes into dangerous things safer'

Harry is going to LOVE Heart-Carving Wind...

It's a very good Charm to be honest. Versatile for a lot of stuff. I imagine it's something to pick up after low hanging fruit we'e discussed like By Rage Recast, Charred Sinner Renewal, Crowned with Fury and Shadow Spite Curse...

God, so much stuff.

Edit: DragonParadox, I have a question. Is there training time to learning a spell with Brigid's Heir? Or is it just a once per story flash where we can spend EXP on it?

No training time, you literally dream it one night.

Crown of Eyes' Answer: "Before initiating a Soulgaze, cover one eye entirely and squint with the other after picking out your preferred style of eye patch."

Seriously, though, getting Soulgazed can be a pretty significant experience for people. If Soulgazing an Exalt is especially potent, Molly will need to be extremely careful if she trains up enough to become a full-fledged wizard and gains the ability herself. Except when she wants to weaponize it, of course, then it's party time.

...are we proscribing the theory that Yozis are a cluster of Charms. If so:

Malfeas: "GREETINGS MORTAL!!!"
Harry: "Uh..."
She Who Lives In Her Name: "Do you wish to order the constellations to sing praises to your name?"
Adorjan: "Do you wish to be free from all chains material and spiritual and dash the bones of your enemy?"
Harry: "Wait, wha—"
Isidoros: "Do you wish to attain pleasure and to stand above the heads of your peer?"
Cecelyne: "Do you wish the strength to subjugate those lesser than you?"
Harry: "Hold on, the hells is this?!"
Ebon Dragon: "We're offering you a deal, sonny. We could give you all you would ever want in this world—and beyond. All you need is to be our arms and ears on the World. What do you say?"
