Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Say what? That's not how I remember it at all.
Unless Broken Seeker has been spreading gossip, no one should know we were involved in Arianna's disappearance. We killed her and her entourage, left no useful evidence, or other witnesses who could blab.
We asked Winter to hold the paths through the NeverNever.

Our passage through the rivers of Mexico had essentially every ghost and spirit wailing up and down central Mexico.
A team of the Fellowship of St Giles saw us at the airport literally less than an hour before her flight went missing, and we know OOC that the Fellowship has moles.

Then we popped shintai in the skies of Mexico.
===
Its not all that difficult to put it together; will take time, but I dont expect it to hold as a secret for more than six months or so.
The only reason I think they might have been distracted was that Morgan showed up to apparently shank a Lord of Outer Night in Mexico City around the same time.

EDIT
And of course, they might figure it out, but choose to pretend that they didnt.
Temporarily, or permanently.

Wanted to comment on this - very unlikely, unless he knows active magic, not just whampire gifts somehow. Because the gas is expected to work on rhampires, and they are much more biologically tough than whampires.
Sandra knows that Silk is...associated with a Rampire.
I would not be surprised if this variant was specifically brewed to account for that.

As for Whampires...
Thomas has walked off a broken neck before. And Lara has survived getting blown up by a mine. Whampires can be unexpectedly tough, they just dont have staying power.

In the case of a nerve gas poisoning, Mutt only has to survive until Lash can reach him, and it takes 1-10 minutes for a base mortal to die from VX inhalation.
Longer from skin contact.

In December 1994 and January 1995, Masami Tsuchiya of Aum Shinrikyo synthesized 100 to 200 grams (3.5 to 7.1 oz) of VX which was used to attack three people. Two people were injured, and one 28-year-old man died, who was the first victim of VX ever documented in the world at that time. The VX victim, whom Shoko Asahara had suspected as a spy, was attacked at 7:00 am on 12 December 1994 on the street in Osaka by Tomomitsu Niimi and another AUM member, who sprinkled the nerve agent on his neck. He chased them for about 90 metres (100 yd) before collapsing, dying ten days later without ever coming out of a deep coma. Doctors in the hospital suspected at the time he had been poisoned with an organophosphate pesticide, but the cause of death was pinned down only after cult members arrested for the Tokyo subway sarin attack confessed to the killing. Metabolites of VX such as ethyl methylphosphonate, methylphosphonic acid and diisopropyl-2-(methylthio)ethylamine were later found in samples of the victim's blood seven months after his murder.[48] Unlike the cases for sarin gas (the Matsumoto incident and the attack on the Tokyo subway), VX was not used for mass murder.
Kim Jong-nam arrived in Malaysia on 6 February 2017, traveling to the resort island of Langkawi on 8 February.[4][5] On 13 February, at about 9 am,[6] he was approached by two women, one of whom was Vietnamese while the other was Indonesian,[7] and ambushed with VX nerve agent near an airport self check-in kiosk at level 3, departure hall in KLIA 2, the low-cost carrier terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport[8] while waiting for a 10:50 a.m. AirAsia flight to Macau.[9] VX is a chemical weapon banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993. North Korea, which has not ratified the convention, is suspected of holding a stockpile.[10][11][12][13]

Malaysian police said that Kim had alerted an airport receptionist, saying that "someone had grabbed him from behind and splashed a liquid on his face" and a woman "covered his face with a cloth laced with a liquid".[14][6]

A resuscitation device was strapped to Kim's face, and he was then transported by stretcher through the airport to reach an ambulance.[15] He was treated at the airport in the Menara Medical Clinic by nurse Rabiatul Adawiyah Mohd Sofi and Dr. Nik Mohd Adzrul Ariff Raja Azlan, who later testified that he was sweating, in pain and unresponsive.[14][16] At the clinic, Kim was given 1 mg of atropine, and also adrenaline.[17] He was given tracheal intubation. He died about 15 to 20 minutes after the attack while being transferred from the airport to the Putrajaya Hospital.[18][7][19][20]
Keep Lash alive and they'll be fine.

We are explicitly told there was a recent fire incident. It was signposted.

Im assuming that the previous fire was staged precisely so Sandra's lot could get access to modify the fire sprinkler systems in the aftermath. I suspect if you look, you'll find someone under her influence in the fire marshall's office, and whoever was contracted to refurbish the fire sprinkler system after the last fire.
The change you propose would not be a "minor refurbish." All that stuff you posted of how large the place is makes it seem even more unfeasible. You are going from "system intended to spray water over 900 sqft" to "water simultaneously over 10x the area." Like damn even systems meant to protect flammable and combustible liquid warehouses are not as extreme. It would likely involve having to completely gut the existing system, install a pump (light hazard system for a low-rise would not have one unless Vegas literally has zero underground water)--which would involve restructuring the Floorplan (I've had architects fighting over literal closets cutting into floor space) and months of downtime.

And there is no way "some pull" in the FM office would allow this. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars for just the material cost of the pump, the pump base, etc, along whatever labor costs from having to rejigger HVAC, plumbing, and electrical during your gutting. Of course all of this likely pales in comparison to the loss of revenue as the club shuts down for the mother of all renovations. Anyone not outright mind controlled would scream bloody murder and refuse.

Yeah there was a fire. From all accounts the fire was successfully suppressed by the existing system. When an office building gets a small outlet fire and the sprinkler goes off, with fire is supressed with no casualities, the reaction is general back petting over enforcing sprinkler install, and telling them to go on fire watch while they fix the handful of activated sprinklers. Since hey the system worked, no need to waste money fixing what aint broke. I've been on the review side, and when I looked at a project in development side and said "uh boss thus project might need to add a fire pump," was told I needed to make sure my reasoning was airtight and supported by code since the developer would likely sue the city to avoid the costs/hassle. And this was for something in development. For an existing building? Where the revenue is based on being open and people coming in and out? Ho boy.

The movies lie, a sprinkler system is pretty much never (like 99.99%) meant to cover an entire floor/building. Seriously it's a club, I'd look at fog machines/ambiance misters.

And generally speaking, if it were that easy to make a successful chemical terrorist attack, it would happen more often.
Most of the time it seems like the homemade poisons don't work as well as intended, to much or too little air around, things go wrong in some way and in the end you have a few dead and some more injured, but not the intended massacre.
Honestly this too. Aum Shinrikyo's Sarin gas attack was horrifying but it also had a grand total of 8 deaths. And this was in pretty much textbook perfect situation for launching a chemical terrorist attack--intensely crowded with thousands, enclosed area with extremely limited egress or air flow, etc.

Ironically, the Red Court may not want to make an enemy of Molly atm.

Think about it, Arianna tried to sick a skinwalker on Molly and ended up dead for it, but Molly hasn't made any other proactive moves on the Red Court. She retaliated against an attack, but didn't exterminate that one group who she commandeered a few months ago.

And considering what she's shown herself capable of, I imagine many Elders would think twice before declaring outright war against Molly, especially since they're being pressed hard enough by the White Council that they've lost a Lord of Outer Night to Morgan and are approaching the Wan Kuei for help.

If anything, considering Arianna wanted to oust the Red King, he should be grateful we took care of her for him. And scared we might come for him to boot. Mortality is such a terrifying concept for those who think themselves beyond it, after all.

Aye, that's the difficult part. AFAIK she's the most physically vulnerable (at least in her base state) member of our party.
Lash's gets to roll (Faith) to invoke her Apocalyptic Form for the scene, and she can choose to invoke features selectively rather than activate the full thing. She can add +4 Soak from Marble Skin at a moment's notice, and thats before using Lore of Flesh to increase her Physical and her Mental Stats for the scene for free.

If she wants to be Stamina 6 for the scene, she can do it; just give her a couple seconds.

The most physically vulnerable member of our party is Harry, and thats despite the fact that, at six foot nine, he is physically large enough to count as having the Huge Merit, giving him +1HP.
All the girls(Lash, Lydia, Molly) are tougher.

First, thank you for sharing your experience with this field.

1)Some pull in this case does literally mean mind-control, yeah.
Given how Vegas appears to have worked so far, my assumption is that the club already has an unusually powerful fire suppression system for its size because someone has tried the arson trick before to dispossess the owners.

If Place of Power = Dragons Nest, this would have made it an unusually valuable piece of real estate to the supernaturals who could recognize and use that sort of thing.

The point of the refurbish, of course, being to get a remote activation controller into the fire control panel or system somewhere.
Because Im assuming that they dont intend to set this payload off by having people applying lighters to the sprinkler heads in this situation.

==
2) Note that the flow rate required for putting out a fire is likely to be orders of magnitude less than the apparent flow rate for poisoning people in an enclosed space.

Something like sarin has a lethal concentration time of 28-35mg/m3 for 2 minutes, while VX is apparently 10-15 mg/m3 for 2 minutes. The fact that there's insufficient water intensity to actually put out a fire isnt a problem if its putting out sufficient nerve-gas aerosol.

So the pressure drop from having all the sprinklers in the building open might not be the issue you think.

Of course, it could be the HVAC system being used as a delivery vector instead.
Might even be easier to work with, and warm cities like Vegas would likely have those as more or less a requirement in commercial venues like this.

But I dont know anything about how those HVAC systems work. And we havent seen any clues pointing that way.

==
3)We dont actually know how the previous fire was suppressed; could have been the fire sprinkler system, could have been magic use, or could have been the fire department.
No idea.

I just think the timing makes it look suspiciously like someone doing a dry run of the feasibility of deploying liquid solution from the sprinkler system.

Nerve gas is quite difficult to weaponize. Normally.
Aum had more than 60 pounds of sarin available for the Tokyo subway attacks, which while less pure than their previous efforts, was still enough liquid sarin to murder multiple train carriages if they could get it to aerosolize properly in an enclosed space.

They just couldnt.

However, as of this point in the timeline, Aum's fuckery would have been almost 15 years ago, and girlboss Marling presumably did her research. Then went with an even more difficult to weaponize secondgen nerve gas which exchanges sarin's relative ease of handling for persistence and even more toxicity.

She's been extraordinarily competent so far at making bricks without straw; if she thinks this was feasible, I'm taking her seriously until otherwise demonstrated.

Ironically, the Red Court may not want to make an enemy of Molly atm.
^^^
Like I said, its entirely possible they figured out that Molly did it (like I said, not that hard) but its politically inconvenient to acknowledge it publicly. Because if they did, they'd have to try to retaliate, and would bring another combatant into the war.

Playing dumb gives them the option of ignoring her now and taking it up later when they are in a better position.
And when I say later, Im not talking weeks and months, Im talking years and decades; Bianca's attempted revenge against Dresden was a year later, and Mab's revenge against Nicodemus was 6 years in the making.

Alternatively, deciding to play dumb altogether because starting a fight with a known killer of gods and Walkers is one of those things that you consider very carefully.

Dont bet on it.
Arianna wanted to oust the Red King as of Changes, which happened around Year 11 of the original timeline.
Molly just killed her in Year 6.

Its entirely possible they were currently on good terms and she was still a dutiful daughter and liege
And he might have to do something because internal pressures.
Or not. Reds are crazy.

[X] Both

Trying to use the White Council's name would be incredibly counterproductive, cause a Red would expect a backstab regardless of any worse common enemies - it's what they would do, after all.

And never split the party.

If anything, considering Arianna wanted to oust the Red King, he should be grateful we took care of her for him.

In private, yes. In public, he would be expected to want Molly dead or be seen as weak, if it became known and admitted that she killed Arianna.

Also he doesn't heal lethal damage nearly as quickly as the rest of us. Of course the fact that he heals it at all well puts him a few steps above regular humans.

Another thought here; we couldn't technically claim to be here representing a nonspecific coalition of powers and let them fill in the blanks without usable confirmation from us.

From a certain perspective it isn't even a lie; Molly always represents the FCF, Harry has been using his position during the investigation which amounts to him dragging in the council, and then there's Maeve. This is also outsider business and technically Molly was recruited into the venators by the archive. It's not our fault if the guy assumes a group representing multiple different organizations showing up means that those organizations are actually coordinating.

Arc 11 Post 73: A Moment Catalyzed
A Moment Catalyzed

13th of January 2007 A.D.

"My name is Molly Carpenter I'm here with friends," you say even as you wonder how much had filtered down about the death of Duchess Arianna. Plane's gone, but there are other signs not so easily removed.

The answer comes as a muffled yowl. He's definitely heard of you. "Tell her to stay away, we will see to our own business," the vampire's voice is far less smooth and controlled, not pride but fear and anger mixing into a dangerous cocktail. Though before you can, politely, tell him to take a darn chill pill Silk surprises you.

"Are you crazy? The have chemical weapons! I don't care who that is we do need the help, I need the help, if you need to go that's up to you."

"You need me cara mia," the endearment is made a bare clawed threat, perhaps more so than Alfredo meant to since if anything it seems to galvanize the sorceress.

Again you hear the sound of rustling cloth then half-plea and half-command: "Get dressed! Go! We will talk later when there aren't lunatics coming to gas my club!" By chance the music turns to Me, Myself and I, a good omen, you choose to take it as.

"Alright, alright, he's going. Listen I don't want any part of any fight with the court. Whatever feud you have with them that's not how things are done in Vegas."

Alas something tells you Alfredo Marcel had not just conveniently existed stage left, he's gone to call his bosses and all-but-sure to come back with reinforcements. You want to tell her to to stop him or go after him, but, as Usum reminds you, there is no way of knowing how far her defiance might stretch. "We need a discreet way into the club," you say instead as Harry motions for Mr Adkin and Mutt to follow you, he might have had the same thought you did about how vulnerable they'd be at the hotel.

"There's a side door, we use it for deliveries," she goes on to give you directions, clear and concise thankfully. "I'm going to start clearing people out now. See you soon I hope."

"Good luck," you wish her as you put Clippy back in your purse.

For her part Tiffany had obviously been waiting for you to finish, she speaks up at once: "They are using alchemy to make the VX, I'm almost positive. Get some Bensulide for fighting crab grass or some other legal organophosphate, then if you'd need just a dash of the good stuff as a seed for the transmutation. It doesn't even have to hold past sunrise, by then the deed will be long since done."

"Hold on there, how come I never heard of this before?" Harry asks, sounding like he wishes she's wrong for obvious reasons.

"Because Warden Dresden, no one has brewed with such poisons before," Mr. Adkin interjects, a humorlessness smile cutting across his aged face. "The intersection of magic and mundane technology is always moving apace with the latter. In the brief span of my years alone I have seen much be discovered, this would be just another dreadful revelation to mark the dawn of the twenty first century."

Tiffany nods silently even as she reaches for Harry's hand, closing her eyes in the process: "There, you're immune to VX. I can cure the stuff once someone's been exposed with much less effort and you can keep the aerosols off with magic."

Tiffany Loses 1 Faith -> Now at 1/3 (Manipulate Flesh)
Harry gains immunity to VX

While she's working her magic, or you guess her miracles, you have one more call to make, to the Library with news of what's going on. This is going to take one deep cover-up.

"I'll... I'll patch you through..." Whatever agent's responsible for keeping contact can't be that inexperienced, though they obviously haven't experienced this kind of thing. Two increasingly calm and collected connections later you hear the familiar voice of Andrea von Trier, the subtle buzzing of her presence is now just on the edge of hearing, coming though your headphones.

"Do you need backup?" she gets right to the point. "Our arcane resources are far less puissant than those of the White Council, but we know how to work in the system. I can get you a pair of federal agents to open doors and close eyes or I could direct federal and law enforcement in Nevada Las Vegas to bring down the hammer where you indicate as an anti-terror operation, though that would bring a great deal more attention to the situation politically."

What do you reply

[] A couple of discrete agents to smooth things over would be helpful

[] Sometimes it's good to have the cavalry in your back poket, put everyone on high alert

[] Thank her for the offer but this will be easier to handle with a small team

[] Write in

OOC: I initially thought Control Body could just give you guys immunity, but from a closer read of the text the immunity from that comes only after exposure and healing, lasting for the rest of the scene and Lash does not have VX on her.
