Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

We are talking past each other. My point is "at the time Molly called cult of Ra Descending, she believed that there was a connection between their and Sandra's arrival to Las Vegas, based on the timing they were noticed in town. One possible interpretation of that was that they were working together. Molly still warned them of a danger of blampire attack. Thus, it is only consistent to warn Silk of the incoming attack".
You are misremembering. This was the winning vote:
[X] Plan Spooky names
-[X] Use the Crown on the record of Mr. Mayeda's speech to learn what "Final Dusk" is
--[X] Use occult excellency to better understand what the crown tells you
-[X] The Pallbearers of Ra Desdencing to have a public phone number, warn them that they have a Black Court vampire trying to steal one of their holy relics
--[X] Offer your help once you drop Mr. Mayeda off
-[X] Get back to Arlene and question her about all this stuff and about Sandra
She thought there was a connection between their showing up and Sandra acting up.
She did NOT think they were working together. Else she wouldnt have been warning them they were about to be robbed.

Furthermore?
She did not think that Cobbler was attempting to stage a mass casualty event at the Pallbearer temple on Summer Court territory, nor did she have any reason to believe that making a phone call to them might trigger one.

And she had no idea that Sandra was engaged in a mass campaign of creating fine thralls across Las Vegas; the Shadowkiller assassins attacked us AFTER (correction: BEFORE)the phone call to the Pallbearers, and we only realized they were enthralled after their boss showed up and did the same thing.

The fact that we called the Pallbearers anyway meant we didnt think they were connected.

Please reread the quotes above. She clearly thought that their arrivals to the city were connected. One possible reason for that was that they were working together. Something I did bring up in the discussion at that time. Yet, we, as players, still voted to warn them. Hence I believe that we should also warn people now.

Welp, vote is actually tied now (one of the votes for @Yog's old plan is not a name vote so does not transfer)

PS
Molly still has this, looted from Cobbler's body:
Gained Veilstone
Carved from flint threaded through with what seems to be iron inclusions this stone makes the bearer unnoticable to magical senses. Anyone attempting to notice him with a specific power, like a ghost with Shroudsight peering through the veil or a Vampire using Auspex to detect him must make an opposed roll agains bearer with Perception+Alertness against his Wits+Occult (Dif 7 for both) or the power fails. This does in no way protect the bearer from mundane attempts to spot them.

I have. Several times.
I maintain that you are misremembering the circumstances around the vote.

Again, whats at stake is not the potential theft of holy relics, which was the Pallbearer situation.
Whats at stake is tens or hundreds of civilian deaths and a potential Masquerade breach.
The stakes are higher. Our due diligence is more rigorous.

We have no way of knowing which, if any, of Silk and her staff or regular customers are mind-whammied/enthralled.
Arlene claims that Silk is enthralled by a Red;
"The first thing you need to know is that the Red Court and the White operate as a single monstrous organism, stripping everything from its victims in this town. Still the latter are a lot more likely to show their faces them the former. I could tell you were Bog Corey is on any given night just judging were most of the buzz is, but the main instigator of the blood trade among the Red Court goes only by the name of Socrates, if that is even a name and not a position under their perversion of nobility. For something more actionable there's Alfredo Marcel at the Xanadu... he's a very young for how much power and influence he has amassed, mostly off the back of enthralling Silk." Arlene sighs. "I swear I've tried to help the girl so many times and she never listens."
We dont know if its true or if she's mistaken, but she's credible enough that we take the possibility seriously.
If a Red can enthrall her, then for damn sure Sandra can.

We dont know if telling Silk, or anyone currently working or attending Club Xanadu, will lead to setting off the bomb early.
We have never met them, we dont know how much of their volition is their own, or who is compromised.
We cannot justify taking that risk without more information on who we are talking to.

This isnt a competitition for fairness.
If we tell the wrong person and they set off the bomb early, it does not help us that we warned people. Good intentions do not absolve you of the need to consider potential consequences.

You cannot justify the risk. I think the risk is negligible as long as we take proper precaution which yogs plan does do. I do not believe Sandra to be omnipotent or even particularly brilliant. So I think this plan will work because unless she knows about our super ability to gleam all types of information from sources there's no way for her to account for our action here of warning silk.

You are taking NO precautions.

You are literally voting we should tell this to someone we have never met.
Someone that we have been warned by a credible local source has been enthralled by a Red Court vampire, something we have not disproved thus far. You literally have no provision for if Silk is enthralled; you're just handwaving it.

Thats just...unwise. At best. And especially at these stakes.

Then you have not been paying attention.

Sandra has been here less than eight months; she got here sometime between June and August last year. In that time, the Dragon has been crippled, the Red Court driven into chaos, and she recruited, setup and staffed a nerve gas production facility in the middle of Las Vegas while arranging a plot to work a combined Outsider incursion and Masquerade breach.

And she found the time to literally enthrall the vast majority of a significant local faction, including their supernatural boss without anyone noticing. We still dont know what the Shadow Killers did under her influence.

Marling may be evil, but the girl is competent as fuck, and has girboss, gaslight and gatekept her way across Las Vegas' supernatural landscape over the last two thirds of a year.
We still have little knowledge of her capabilities or resources.

The Outsiders didnt send their B-team here.

That isn't how mind-magic works and I think you know that. The enthrallment of the red Court relies on an addictive substance rather than direct mind manipulation. The idea that Sandra was somehow able to work mind magic on a witch who has a distinct focus on mind magic herself relies on Sandra somehow being able to do that without attracting attention to herself. I'm not hand waving it I just do not believe and this might be wrong that that is possible for Sandra to have done. Given the facts of how magic is supposed to work any level of mind magic that Sandra is capable of so is Silk and undoing mind magic on yourself is supposedly possible so Sandra has to somehow use mind magic on someone without them knowing and without them ever even possibly analyzing themselves in that intervening time and it has to be something that they cannot undo should they ever analyze themselves. The fact of the matter is I do not believe Sandra to be omnipotent.

Notice how I didn't say stupid or even not smart. Her plans though carry the obvious traits of overthought over planning too many moving parts. What was the plan if Dresden had caught Molly sooner and she had told him Sandra with one who gave her the idea. What was the plan if any warden came across any of the people who were manipulated by the gambling machine and Trace The Source back to that machine.

What was the plan if they came across any of her pawns that she's also directly interacted with and use mind control Magic on. I'm not saying she's bad at her job I'm saying there are way too many moving Parts along with things that lead directly back to her she got discovered by winter months ago. So you can't claim that she's like some super Mastermind either. This is capital A grade material but she is still a human actor capable of making mistakes overestimating herself and underestimating her enemies see splatter con again. Never mind the fact that her willing companions are willing to speak their nihilism cult speech on the phone with people who called about her.

Also there really isn't much to convince in someone to move themselves out of the way of danger. We have reason to believe that someone who is contracted themselves to greater demons, the outsiders, the old ones any of these are about to attack your establishment in a foul with ritual using a nerve gas to flood your establishment and kill everyone in it you might want to stealthily as quickly as you can put hands and eyes on these particular individuals and leave there in a quick and subtle fashion. At worst that is a medium sell because we're not asking them to do anything other than save their own lives. People in general are willing to take threats to their safety and their lives seriously enough that even if the call is wrong they'll follow through because at worst they wasted a night at best they save their life.

I really wish we'd put some assets of the ground at Club Xanadu, or had some airborne on overwatch right now.

We've repeatedly needlessly handicapped ourselves by refusing to use the vast majority of our assets.

Why are we continuing to do so?

For example, the best way to deploy VX gas is with something like a crop sprayer, either a light aircraft on people after triggering an evacuation onto the street, or simply by sending people in with tanks on their backs.

These are things that having some people on the ground with the right equipment would massively help defend against

My suggestion would be to travel through the water system to get there quickly, pull some cyber commandos there to defend the place, and then immediately go off and hit Sandra while she thinks we're about to be distracted.

The current plans are to completely surrender the initiative to her.
For my part I largely agree, though I think you're fixating too hard on air assets and we haven't worked out soul protection for our commanders yet. We don't have time to summon demons because we wasted it screwing around earlier, so we've got to work with what we have.

We should take the time to work out a fix for that and/or a set up demonic emergency teams in advance for next time after this is over.

10-15 mook tier spirits shouldn't be that hard to put on standby.
There is a EWoD Kimberly charm that gives immunity on touch for liquid poisons 'people the infernal is fond of' but it's a bit of a tall order to apply it to a nightclub.
It doesn't have an essence or tine requirement, DDP technically she could walk through a crowd and get everyone she can contrive to bump into. With ATP no one would notice until after she touched them directly either.

Arc 11 Post 72: Of Silk and Satin
Of Silk and Satin

13th of January 2007 A.D.

"Guys, we are going out." it is startling how normal those words sound, like one of those cheesy 80s action flicks, and of course the bad guy is someone you had once called a friend. "There's going to be a nerve gas attack on Club Xanadu in 30-40 minutes, it's hard to tell more by the position of the sun in my vision. I could stealth in there using the water lines, but I only have two hands to work with." The sound of fabric being pulled forcefully and zippers hissing closed fills the bathroom, you do not bother to towel off.

"And that," Tiffany proclaims in like tone from the other side of the doom. "Is what Marling is counting on. She has to know what she is up against and I know she can't take you head on in a fight. One of my more martial former associates would struggle to do so and the rest of us make it a losing bet. This is a distraction."

"Someone cooked up bathtub VX, they were planning for it," you counter as you walk into the lounge. "Clippy, pull out the previous caller's records, anything, everything you can get."

"Proceeding," she replies with the calm of someone who does not have to worry about pesky organophosphates in the least.

Lash looks thoughtful though when you look at her in askance she raises a hand for time.

"I'm going to call Silk, if it's something that helps with that..."

"The Red Court thrall?" Harry asks alarmed, well more alarmed, the poor man turned green the moment you mentioned VX not that you can blame him.

"It's her club she has to be warmed, she's the only one who can clear people out of there," you counter, more confidently than you feel as for the first time in a while you put in the number yourself on instinct. Essence burns that will not be restored.

"Hello?" the sound of Rhianna's SOS. blares through the phone so loud you can barely hear the voice on the other end, the very suspicious voice. Too bad you're about to give her more of a reason for suspicion.

Lost 3 Essence -> Now at 11/15

"Silk, is this Silk?" you pause just long enough to get a confirmation. "I am going to to need you to listen to me very carefully, someone is about to stage an attack on the Xanadu, they have chemical weapons and the means to spread them. You have thirty, maybe forty minutes to get people out of there..."

"Who is that mi querida?" a man's voice speaks very close to the phone, there is a sound of rustling cloth, satin or silk. Only then does it occur to you that you might not have interrupted a dance.

"I don't know Alfredo," Silk answers quietly.

Under other circumstances the sudden realization that you had just interrupted someone having sex with one of the Red Court would have derailed your line of thinking entirely and maybe your next meal in the bargain, but there is no time.

"How do you know?" she presses urgently.

"Someone got cocky and talked," technically correct, the best kind of correct when one has a vampire listening in, keep it secret, keep it straightforward. "A madman, of course they are all mad to do this, but it goes deeper, deep as it can go, service to the Old Ones."

From the half angry-half terrified stream of curse words that follows she knows what you mean.

"We're here to help," you cut her off, all too aware that this is taking time as Mr Adkin and Mutt walk into the room and get an update from Lydia.

"Who's we?" the vampire, Alfredo calls out, a question that's a lot more fought for who's asking it.

What do you reply?

[] Warden Dresden and Company
Lean on the reputation of the White Council for being enemies of Outsiders in spite of the present war

[] Molly Carpenter and Company
Use your own reputation, whatever that might be to the Red Court

[] The Winter Lady sent us
Maeve did send a bunch of messages and if this guy knows Winter's purpose that should explain things very clearely

[] Write in

As you leave who do you take with you?

[] Oliver Adkin
Something tells you he is not much good in a fight but you can't leave him here alone

[] Mutt
He's ready and willing to help, who are you to say no

[] Neither
Leave them here to hold down the fort, even if it's just a hotel room

[] Both
It's all hands on deck for this one

OOC: Lash's realization will be next update, she just barely made combined 10 successes on two rolls so she has to think about this for a bit

Hmmm...of the options, saying the winter lady sent us is probably the least alarming. Both we and Dresden have a reputation now for screwing up the Red Courts plans.

Winter is scary for everyone.
Molly is scary for the Red Court.
Harry is scary for a Lawbreaking talent like her.

No safe options.

Adkin is not only not a fighter but also an easy victim of nervegas. Have him and Mutt stay back to avoid getting into that.

I think it goes like this
Winter Lady sent us - politically charged (right now no one knows we are on a mission from someone, that's a juicy piece of information), but safeish. Incurs certain obligations (if we are sent here by Winter Lady, we are acting on her behalf and our actions reflect on her)
Molly - the "we have all the firepower" option. Molly is scary. If they know who killed Red King's daughter, probably terrifying. She's also a loose cannon not controlled by anyone. Basically a 500 pound gorilla in the room.
Dresden - a middle road, probably.

Still, if we are to help them, they'll see us anyway.

For now at least. I'll have to think more about whether to bring mortals with us.

Yeah we are here as ourselves functionally mentioning winter just is a over exposure I think. I wanted to come up with a stunt like focusing on our exploits as a walker Slayer and an enemy of Outsiders to calm them down to make sure they think we're not here for them we're here for our enemies and they happen to be targeting them at this moment. But it just didn't come to me.

Literally like you never saw a movie before. :V

You leave them behind, in a hotel suite Molly and her Obvious aura just spent the night in, in a city where Sandra was able to find us to ambush the first time because either her or Cobbler had spirits looking for us? They are going to get snatched or killed.
Never split the party unless absolutely necessary.

Lash can handle treating poison if necessary. In fact, she is supposed to tune him up today.
And Mutt is enough of a strong White to have some resistance.

Ok, I can see the reasoning here. We can leave Adkin in the car a couple of blocks away, if nothing else. With nervegas immunity provided by Lash.

Well.
We get to find out whether this Red's regard for Silk outweighs his ambition, his feelings towards Dresden, the dude who is publicly credited with starting the Vampire War. Or his fear of Molly.

RATIONALE
Claiming Winter brings political complications I'd rather avoid.

Claiming the White Council means Dresden. And Dresden has a longstanding and well-deserved reputation for hostility towards the Red Court. He wiped out Baroness Bianca's seethe, and defeated Duke Paolo Ortega in a public duel before Ebenezar, Dresden's teacher capped him.

He's so infamous there is allegedly a torture cage in the Red King's Court reserved for when they catch him:
The vampire regarded me levelly. "There are multiple motivations behind the work," she said. "Many of my Court agreed to the logic you cite when they would never have supported the idea of strengthening and defending mortals."
"Ohhhhh," I said, drawing the word out. "You're the vampire with a heart of gold. Florence Nightingale with fangs. I guess that makes it okay, then."
LeBlanc stared at me. Then her eyes flicked to Murphy and back. She smiled thinly. "There is a special cage reserved for you at the Red Court, Dresden. Its bars are lined with blades and spikes, so that if you fall asleep, they will cut and gouge you awake."
"Shut up," Murphy said.
LeBlanc continued in a calmly amused tone. "The bottom is a closed bowl nearly a foot deep, so that you will stand in your own waste. And there are three spears with needle-sized tips waiting in a rack beneath the cage, so that any who pass you can pause and take a few moments to participate in your punishment."
"Shut up," Murphy growled.
"Eventually," LeBlanc purred, "your guts will be torn out and left in a pile at your feet. And when you are dead, your skin will be flayed from your body, tanned, and made into upholstery for one of the chairs in the Red Temple."
"Shut up!" snarled Murphy, and her voice was savage. Her gun whipped over to cover LeBlanc. "Shut your mouth, bitch!"
I realized the danger an instant too late. It was exactly the reaction LeBlanc had intended to provoke. "Murph! No!"
Claiming Harry as head of the war party seems ill-advised.

===
Molly killed the Finnish war god/godmonster Iku-Turso earlier this month.
In public and full view of the Summer Court.
A war god that the Red Court explicitly had been keeping an eye on.

She also killed a lesser Walker a couple months ago in the process of scuppering a Red-backed coup.

The Reds in Las Vegas do business with the Whites here, who are largely Skavis; they will have heard of it.
And her.
Her personal reputation and bonafides towards Outsiders are well established.

She did let a couple Blood Packs walk in Cleveland when they kept their word, so dude has a reputation for keeping her word. Wont necessarily stop him from starting shit, because Reds gonna Red.
But if he starts something, its not because he was afraid Molly was gonna murder him first.

But remember: Molly capped the Red King's daughter a couple months ago.
No idea if its common knowledge in the Red Court; we didnt hide it particularly, but neither did we publicise it.
Any Red that could bring our head to the Red King is gonna be showered in regard and gifts.

Say what? That's not how I remember it at all.

Unless Broken Seeker has been spreading gossip, no one should know we were involved in Arianna's disappearance. We killed her and her entourage, left no useful evidence, or other witnesses who could blab.
